In this video, join me on my adventure of transforming free pallet wood into a stunning, high-end Herman Miller platform bench that usually retails for up to $2500! Watch as I take you through the entire process, from dismantling pallets to creating a beautiful, authentic-looking piece of furniture.
Get ready to laugh and learn with me, as I share woodworking tips, tricks, and some subtle humor along the way. This project is not just about the money, but also about sustainability, creativity, and the joys of upcycling.
A special shoutout to our video sponsor, Squarespace! Every hustler needs a sleek website to showcase their "authentic" creations, and Squarespace is the perfect platform to build one.
Also, huge thanks to Andrew Szeto for inspiring this project and providing valuable guidance throughout the process.

I'm an ambassador for @rubiomonocoatscandinavia (Denmark). I'm not paid so say anything, but obviously I wouldn't become an ambassador if I didn't absolutely love their wood finishes.
I have been able to get a good amount of tools in my shop over the last year. I’m not a full time woodworker, and because I also have another job that supports my cost of living, I’m able to put everything I make from the woodworking back as investments in tools in my shop. It has been all hard work, but you’re welcome to make a comment about how fortunate I am to have a shop full of woodworking tools that magically have appeared overnight. But just know that I take care of a dayjob, work in the workshop in the evenings and edit videos for RUclips many nights.
I'm not affililated with any of the toolbrands I'm using in this video. Nobody paid me so say anything. However, I do like to support other creators, and often buy their merch.
I do owe thanks to a lot of creators, I will try my best to feature you somehow in future videos. The way I like to feature other creators is by making some sort of cameo that's relevant for the video I'm making, so I'm sorry if you send me your sticker hoping to get a shout-out. It could be a while before the right opportunity shows up for me. Хобби
Jesper, you genius love this through and through! can't thank you enough for being such a lovely pal! so glad your wife loved this! ALL THE LOVE FROM CANADA good sir!
Everybody, go check out Andrews bench video. Now! And love to you Andrew ❤😂
I come for the story telling i stay for the woodworking. The best part is you are a real human with loving family members.

Thanks and yeah I'm very lucky.
How many woodworkers have you seen that aren't human lol
@@woodworkingandepoxy643 many. Videos where no one speaks the whole video, speed shots sped up, and no human element as in how the piece was used. You can poop out a video or create a story (human) people can relate to.
@@Nostalgiaforinfi yeah that's true. I guess I just ignore those and follow people like Jesper, danier made, make something and few others. I tend to stay away from those videos
Bench turned out beautiful! well done!
Thanks 🙏
Jesper, I really enjoy your videos.
It's not only the way you do your one style of woodworking, it's the way you tell your stories. I absolutely love it.
And yes, you are an inspiration. I have a few projects laying around and your videos always give me new inspiration.
Greetings from Germany and please keep doing it your way. 👌
Thanks, will do!
Jesper yourself and Mark Dainer have really upped your game over the last few vids and have both been an inspiration too me. I love the way the stain turned out thats a really nice finish ...now I've got to bugger off and finish routing some pallet wood to make ship lap to cover my 2 new chicken tractors
Thanks 🙏
It's like watching a really good TV series. I can't wait for the upcoming episode.
Great 😃
Love your story Telling, Super Cool Project Lets see what Jesper Will do in Next Episode.👍😀
We shall see! Thanks for following along mate!
Always love watching your videos jesper. I can't wait to see how the kitchen looks 👍
Same here 😊
Hahahaha I love your sense of humor. The bench looks great :)
Thanks 🙏
You can tell that this guy is a professional in wood working, he did such a good job!
Not a professional, but thanks 😁
It's a privilege to live during and to actually see another landmark moment in European history, especially when it turns out SO MUCH BETTER than the Hindenburg! All of this AND an Ikea cabinet makeover in the offing?!? It's way beyond what I deserve, but it is no surprise that you are the man responsible for these milestones.
Serious now: you make that multi-layered precision look so easy (and I know it's NOT). Fantastic work on both the project _and_ The video. Many thanks.
Thanks mate. I'm just glad I didn't make another Hindenburg with my table saw! 😃
@@JesperMakes Cheers! The timing is cool, too. I was at a friend's place when your video went up-recommending a half-lap approach to a shelf system he wants me to build. Your demonstration is excellent training prep!
Thanks!
Man I love your videos. Nearly cried when I saw how much your wife liked the result. Well done.
I just told her! She says hi back!
Haha! Another brilliant one. Great story telling and production. Thank you for the laughs my friend!
You're welcome 😁
The chocolate sauce custom color turned out very nice! Also, as long as there is one person who will pay you a large sum of money for your creation, then it does not matter what anyone else thinks👍.The story telling & humor did not disappoint😊.
Thanks mate, I still have the bench, now used as a coffee table!
This video came to my feed and I am glad that it did. The manner and tone used by Jesper, the low key no rush relaxed pace of the video is very easy and pleasing to watch. Looking forward to watching the other videos.
You're welcome, thanks 👍
Always a pleasure to watch your creative, witty and interesting videos, Mr. WoodHustler. This is a great project to build now in Spring as the weather is improving.
Don't forget "wood ninja in training", as well 😂
Ahahaha 😃
Thanks Sebastian, I'm really looking forward to some warmer temperatures here.
Jesper that bench looks great. I love your videos, great craftsmanship and even the humour. Im looking forward to the next one.
Thanks 👍
I watch these videos all through with a big smile on my face! Thank you for your honest and witty approach and for the humour you bring to your channel. I’m looking forward to the kitchen rebuild!
Ahahaha thanks 🙏
The palletwood kitchen can probably become a serie of a couple episodes
It probably could. I'll try to fit it into one video though 😂
Beautiful job and yet another fascinating story. Just for added safety: When you make another throat plate, move your fence over, clamp a board to it so the scrap board partially covers the throat plate before raising the blade. I know you screwed it down but it doesn't hurt to have that extra security.
As far as your kitchen build goes, I'm looking forward to it! Remember: No good deed goes unpunished. :~)
Thanks, I'll remember that
YOU ARE MY HERO! Your positive attitude, humble nature, thought process, and inclusivity of all cultures is awe inspiring and I am a huge fan of your life mentality. The bench is incredibly done and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your journey with us. Huge fan, love you're work, your attitude, and your process!
-Fellow nervous dado blade beginner
Thanks 🙏
You are very fun to watch. I love your brand of humility. Your look at the end was priceless, but, your right, it will make for good content. Take care my fellow wood worker. I'm rooting for you.
Thanks Chris 😊
Hi Jesper
Greetings from Poland
I think I've seen all your videos on your You Tube channel and I think you're an amazing man who makes amazing furniture... the videos are amazing too. You must make videos about how you make kitchen furniture for your wife, I'm looking forward to it, your wife probably too. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!!
And don't drink too much coffee
Thanks and hi in Poland. I'll get cracking on the kitchen 😁
The bench is beautiful. Very cool. Can't wait for the kitchen build videos. YOU GOT THIS JESPER!!!!
Right now I wish I had somewhere to build something. Sometimes life gets in the way of future plans, but I'm working on it.
Good to hear. I wish you all the best
Ehhhh! thanks for the shout out Jesper! means a ton!
That was the least I could do. Thanks again for your help.
Great build Jesper, you make it look so easy and being a pioneer as you are with the dado stack I couldn’t help but notice your hiding behind the table saw when you started it up 😂😂😂. Bloody came up a treat mate well done. And nice T Shirt too…🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🏁🏁🏁🫡
I was actually scared it would fly loose and hit me. It didn't - phew 😃
Good luck on the cabinets. The bench turned out really nice.
Thanks 🙏
Rebuild the kitchen. Wow I so know that look. I wear it on my face every few days. Such is life.
Haha, the "why did I start this project" face 😂 What's the last project that had you wearing that expression?
Jesper my friend, i was just turning on the pc and saw a new video of yours...it gets me chills again...as always a nice work and storytelling. I sadly dont have much time at the moment in woodworking. Hopefully i get more time later this year and i try to make a little video about a project i have in mind.
Best regards from germany. Sönke
Hi mate, so glad to hear from you. Sorry to hear you don't have so much time for woodworking. Hopefully you'll be in the shed soon again 🙂.
I'm really impressed that you are able to like, and answer all of the comments on your video, and the quality of your videos! I'm looking forward to the upcoming videoes in the future!
- A fellow Danish viking!
Thanks RB!
If wife approves, you are doing right hahaha.
Jesper your videos are so entertaining and you very easily show woodworking techniques. Thanks a lot for sharing your craft!
Thanks 🙏
It’s a Tuesday night and I was just in the mood for a good old pallet wood video, oh what’s there? New video from Jesper 🎉
Ahahaha 😃 thanks for watching
And just watched it all the way through. Another great video with a great story. Your wife will be very happy with the beautiful bench!
Good to see the Laguna Fusion tablesaw can run a dado stack, sure will be getting one myself later on.. I also ran into the issue that it's forbidden to use one here in the Netherlands and Europe. Well, in the Netherlands you are not allowed to let employees use it in your business. Whatever you do on your own in your business as a self employed woodworker, no problem.
Well, enough chit chat. Enjoyed yet another one of your stories, and am looking forward to the kitchen rebuild video! Cheers.
What kind of saw do you have?
@@JesperMakes now I have a simple bosch Tablesaw. It’s the pts10 I believe. It’s fun for a beginner but for the rest, the dust collection sucks. The fence isn’t the best.. no options and no way you are going to be able to run a dado stack on it the device will explode😂
Yeah the issue is that the saws have very short arbors due to the regulation. The Laguna saw is the first I have with a long enough arbor on it.
i dont know anything to do with wood but i love watching Jesper. He is funny and a genius at making all these. Funny thing is all the people he sort of looks up to.... I think he is way better than them. also Jesper what always happens to all the things you make🤣 its either you mom buys, or you give your mother in law or something weird happens hahahaa i love you man
I like to make weird videos, thank you so much for this comment.
Your videos are always a joy to look!😁 Looking forward to your kitchen🔪
So does my wife 😬
WOW it looks amazing, no wonder your wife decided to keep it...I will be going through all of your videos, not only because you are an artist but also because I enjoy your cense of humor.
You shall be very welcome, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about them.
@@JesperMakes 🤗🤗

OMG montage at 8:29 is absolutely incredible haha you genius Jesper!
Ahahaha I thought I should just use what I had, and so I made a big deal out of the dado thing.
Good luck with a new project Jesper. :)
Thanks, I think I'll need that 🙂
Your humor, editing and woodworking skills make me smile! You and several other youtubers are inspiring me and I've recently picked up the craft so I can hopefully take it up as a trade and quit my retail job down the line. I look forward to more content and I'm glad your wife loved the bench so much!
Thanks 🙏
"Jesper Makes - Wood Hustler" I like it! Clearly it's the way to go!
It absolutely is 😂. Thanks for watching mate
There’s no amount of money big enough to be compared to a big smile on a wife’s happy face!
That's absolutely right 👍.
Great video! I could not imagine life without my dado stack 🇺🇸
Same here, love it!
Golden! Thank you for such a great video, Jesper! Beautiful bench and an absolute masterpiece of a video. Congratulations on a European first.
Thank you very much!
NB 1903 was the first *manned* powered flight. A non-manned powered flight was achieved in 1848 with a light-weight wood frame and close fitting silk or cotton fabric and a steam driven engine by John Stringfellow in Chard, Somerset, England. This is just up the road from me - and also the home of Henry vacuum cleaners ;-) Love the videos.
Thanks for the comment and info mate!
Hello "Yesper" Deano here from Biloxi,MS, USA. I love your video technique and sense of humor.I am your newest subscriber!!
Hey Deano, welcome aboard! Thanks for the sub and the compliment on the humor in the videos.
Love the bench Jesper. Keep making beginner videos. Best of luck to you and thank you for sharing your journey.
Nicely done!
Got a mental image of you with a jigsaw puzzle, a glas of whiskey and a sander.... 😂
Ahaha love that Image 🙏
As always the video was great. Thanks Jesper! I look forward to seeing the cabinet series.
I shall do my very best ☺️
Really awesome build Jesper! Thanks for this one!!
Thanks 🙏
Love the video! The bench looks awesome!!! And looking forward to the cabinet video!
My wife too 😅
I definitely related to that initial Dado Stack fire up!! 🤣 Was scared I was going to Dado the ceiling. Beautiful video & project mate. 11/10
Thanks, the dado stack was a bit scary 😁
Edifying and entertaining. Great work!
Edifying? New word for me 🤣
Great looking bench, that Rubio mono helped decheapify that pine! The ending made me laugh out loud! 😂
Decheapify 😂😂😂
That was awesome to watch. I did laugh out loud at your “present.”
Looking forward to your next story.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mate....what a result! So happy to see that the wife loved it. Well done as per usual 👍😁🇦🇺

Clever build and the final product is absolutely beautiful. You're truly an inspiration.
Thanks 🙏
Wife is happy, that's a win on any book. 😂😂
Exactly 💯
Hi Jesper, Just had to write and say, I watch a lot of woodworking video's but yours is the most honest and entertaining on youtube, I have worked my way through all your video's and all of them are a great watch, you seem to be able to humanise woodworking with your mistakes and also have great results at the end. As other viewers on here, I look forward to your new video's when they come out like a small child waiting for a treat. Keep up the good work, don't change a thing and you will soon be flying with subscribers. Good luck my friend.
Paul, that's such a wholesome comment! It's like that first sip of morning coffee for my soul. What got you into woodworking? ☕
Always loved woodworking, I live in the UK at the moment but moving to Spain next May, My criteria in Spain is to have a large workshop and follow in your footsteps my friend. Good luck with the RUclips I am telling everyone to watch you,@@JesperMakes
Thank you so much, Paul! The thought of you sharing my work truly warms my heart. Your move to Spain sounds like an exciting new chapter, especially with a large workshop on the horizon. Can't wait to hear about the woodworking adventures you'll embark on there! Keep me posted, my friend, and thanks again for the support!
Thanks for the tip on getting the pallet slats of the stretchers. I've been splitting a lot of slats trying to get them off with a pry bar, will try lying them down and pounding them off
Thanks for the comment mate. Good luck with it, and let me know how it works out.
hooo now I am waiting to see the Pallet kitchen build!
great video!
My wife is waiting too 😂
Love your humour & honesty. Thks
Thanks 🙏
Hi Jesper. Thank you so much for all the great videos. lerning so mutch

You made me smile again, with the history lessons. 😃
ahaha, thanks.
Good job! Beautiful results.
Looks amazing!
Love the bench my friend. Might try to build one myself. Enjoy your videos.
The woodworking was good Jesper, but the commentary is PRICELESS! I love the flat stones, viking joints and breaking new ground/old plywood!!! 😃
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm having fun coming up with all those words 😂
Very professional, very entertaining, and very informative 🤩 Very good job, Sir! 🎉
Thank you kindly!
Easily my favorite youtube channel. You seem like a great guy, and I love your videos. 👊 Hope all the best for you and enjoy all the success that's been coming your way
Thanks 🙏
Very nice, Jesper. Aced it. I made a similar bench many years back for the kids. The legs were straight though, but it still survived them, lol
Thanks man. How's everything going?
I love your sense of humor-absolutely hilarious! I love your projects.
Thanks man! Thanks for following along.
I absolutely love that you used an xl domino with a pallet project. 🎉
All wood deserves to be treated equally 😃
So well done! Just great!
Thanks 🙏
Notice: If you buy an Airlocker AP700 nail remover, you need to buy a good 1/4" nipple to connect the gun to the air hose before you can use it.
I got my Air Locker yesterday - ordered it the same day I saw Jesper use it in this video 3 weeks ago - and I went to the store (Harald Nyborg) and bought two cheap nipples, and both of them failed, as they could not hold the connection airtight, even with the correct tape!
My ex / best friend, he solved the problem by using an old one from another tool he had with him, one with more threads than the new cheap ones, and now the connection was airtight!
My new compressor is a small tank 8-bar compressor, and with the max recommended, about 120 psi, the gun shoots the nails out VERY fast! Be careful what they hit!!
After a few nails, I did put a piece of cardboard over the bucket, and it stopped more nails from coming back up from the bucket and almost hitting my face.
I had my safety glasses on, but I didn't feel like trying to test if they can hold back a nail from going through the safety glasses, one of my eyes, AND whatever is behind, before it might go out at the back of my head!! Ouch!
I also used a connector from an old tool
"Jesper Makes" me smile 😊
Thanks, mission accomplished.
Awesome as usual, Jesper.
Thanks 🙏
Coffee (and dado) solves Everything! Nice one man!
Thanks Rob. Mostly coffee ☕
