I remember the black album tour. These guys should be in the history books for that tour. For that album, they toured for TWO YEARS STRAIGHT NONE STOP, literally no weekends, days off, just sleep eat and tour. Thats how they grew their reputations. And how they outsold Micheal jackson for the black album. And how they bevome the most populsr metal band on earth. They put ALL their eggs into touring basket, and it paid off going around to every town snd every state and every country in the world. These guys even played in f*cking ANTARCTICA FFS!!! BUT touring for 2 years straight, sine concerts being four to SIX hours a show, is absolute LUDICROUSY.
Thats why Newsted had a interesting point, he was in the band 14yrs and from his time he has twice as many shows with the band under his belt than Rob does despite being in the band 20yrs. Rob will never catch up....they fucking played a ton. I'm trying to remember during the '91-'93 run I am pretty sure it was 5 days/shows a week if not 6.
I'm sure that had alot to do with their change of direction after that tour. I couldn't imagine playing the same songs every night for 2 solid years. Pair that with life experience and maturity it's no wonder why they wanted to try something a little different. They earned their right to do what they wanted with everything they had accomplished up till then.
Crazy how they played that long of shows for decades. Crazy how he can still sing. Idk what James vocal routine/exercise are, but he should’ve shared it to Dave 😂
I can't believe how shy he seems in this. Especially with his on stage persona at the time. Really says a lot about how and why he ended up struggling with alcohol and mental illness so badly. Makes the lyrics to 72 seasons even more poignant.
Saw them on this tour because Gen X Rules, Gen Z DROOLS! You know this clip shows us a surprisingly lucid and articulate 80s James. Almost contemplative 🤘
Well gee whiz, it's too bad you didn't get to see them live back then. I did, twice @ Long Beach, once @ Irvine Meadows in the pit! Jason Newkid was loud and clear as fuck!
He dominated this tour bro, and the black album. He has lost his step over time but these tours he was a force regardless of how cliche’ it’s become to say he sucks
@mikes51501 He hasn't progressed since I first saw them promoting Ride the Lightning . The Lars I saw in August is the same Lars I saw in 1984. He doesn't actually suck he's just satisfied with mediocre .
Im 51 and the Justice concert was the best show of my lifetime
Damn lucky you
You got that right! I saw them in Birmingham, AL in January of 1989 on this tour (with Queensryche) 🤘🏽
@@DavidLoveless yup. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Queensrych🤣🤣
@@DavidLoveless and the Cult🤣🤣🤣
I got to see them all 3 nights at the old Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on this tour!! With Faith no More in support!
You can sense a bit of shyness back then, even after all the fame and notoriety. He’s definitely come a long way. That’s something I can relate to.
Ha. That's why he drank.

Thriller sold 70 million. Black album sold 30.

@@muriloninja And Newsted threw down harder than Rob. By far.

Still playing for 2 1/2 hours.
ehhhh maybe maybe minus about an hour but it's a good show
He has a Danzig patch on. Very cool
Freakin love James 🤟🎸
I saw this tour at Irvine Meadows amphitheater. I had to pee so bad and the show would never end...
Love James ❤❤❤❤❤
I was lucky to see the Justice tour in Denver, then they came back to Colorado and saw them again at Red Recks. Both were amazing shows! 🤘
The fucking good old days
He seems really kind to interviewers.
6 new songs from the album he said. But only played 4 then dropped Eye Of The Beholder. The other ones being Blackened, And Justice For All and One

I have always respected James even when he was in the grip of his addictions! I love 💗 him now that he’s clean and preforming @ top of his game!
❤❤❤❤
Good interview
Saw it at UNO Lakefront Arena in 89, New Orleans. Unreal. Cult opened up
He reminds me a.little bit.of the shy lion from wizard of Oz. Bless him 🎉🎉🎉

It’s weird seeing him so serious at that age idk never seen him serious lol 😂
Cool video

Back before Metallica sold out. You can hear it in their music
Of course don't mention how you screwed Jason by taking all of his bass out of the mix.

This is why Lars is the mouthpiece of the band. He can't play, but he's good at PR.
I met them Lars is definitely the communicator. Went out of his way to be kind. All very nice fellas of course

"Can't play".... Puh-leeeeeease...
