Dave staying in Metallica would have held them both back. Dave would have continued making Metallica's existence a constant stream of battles and ruined opportunities. He also had way more potential than being 'just' lead guitarist, he was made to be a frontman. Getting both bands was definitely the best result for them, and the fans.
I feel like there's been at least two instances where Dave has offered positive wishes James's way since whatever time this interview is I think one was on his birthday and the other was encouraging him about his guitar-playing or something like that
Could you imagine what Rust in Peace would have been like if it would have been a Metallica album? Dawn Patrol would be basically a drum solo because Lars would turn down the bass. And Holy Wars or Polaris with Lars behind the kit would be an absolute tragedy.

As much as I love JH and think he's an absolute God, he can be an uptight SOAB at times 😆 just tell Lars to swallow his pride and get over not being credited. He's already credited on everything else anyway, a couple of songs on a reissue of an EP really doesn't matter enough to ruin such a great thing that the fans would really enjoy. I hope they can work it out in the future.
You could say the same about Dave Mustaine though, why does he care if its all about thr music and getting together for old times why make it about clout chasing before they've even wrote a single note of music
James don't need any collab, thats the thing, any other of the current members of Metallica were part of that band at least as twice as Dave, they are his REAL friends, his REAL band mates, why he have to do something that he clearly don't care, or even want, just to satisfy a guy that talk shit about his actual band? They are both great on what they do, Dave really need to get over this, is not healthy for him
Lars and James don't need to get over anything - it's Dave who demands to do this. If it was about "old times", he wouldn't be making a fuss about money. Why should James be forced to do something just because Dave wants it? Metallica have better things to do. The Big 4 already happened - Mustaine is just broke, tired of opening for FFDP and wants a big audience to promote his generic new album to.

@@MrOctober44 You're leaving some things out. Those half a dozen songs are on Metallica's first 3 major label albums, and one could argue that if nobody bought the first three albums....there wouldn't be a fourth, or fifth....making Dave at least partially responsible for Metallica's success. One could also argue Metallica MIGHT be even bigger today if Dave wasn't fired, and what Dave was fired for back then....is the SAME THING troubling James TODAY.
Or it's just Dave's personality. He's been problematic with many, many people fir decades including his former bandmates. Notice how nothing is ever Dave's fault and always everyone else's?
@@Skulllywag Dave never wrote anything on Puppets and he has be given credits on Ride for a couple of riffs. There will be people who will side with Metallica, and there will be others siding with Mustaine. Meanwhile, there's another group of fans who fall in the "Just Release the Demos & Be Done With it Already" category. At this rate, the fans will probably miss out on material until someone passes away, and that's not fair to anyone.
Because he says shit like he was “the only alpha male” in Metallica… he whines about being kicked out, but he can’t get over himself, in the same breath
Lars Ulrich has a net worth of $350 million. James Hetfield has a net worth of $300 million. Dave Mustaine has a net worth of $14 million. Lars & James want to argue over shared royalties of two "demo" songs??? Talk about petty!
If they can't agree on something as minor as royalty payments on a release that only die-hard fans are going to care about, there's no way they'll agree on things like creative decisions when it comes to an actual collaborative project. Sounds like it was never meant to be. These two have spent the last 40 years butting heads and they think they'll be able to work together somehow? I'm not seeing it
James will never leave Lars, its actually rather sad. Its very telling who actually is in control of metallica. It would be cool to see james's stuff without Lars influence, but I don't think that work actually exists, not in a form that actually matters.
From all accounts involved, it is James who actually controls Metallica. Lars often interjects because he is short and has a big mouth, but Papa James leads that show.
Interesting perspective. To call it "sad" that two LONGTIME collaborators and bandmates since their late teens want to continue making music with each other. Just because Dave can't get along with anyone long term in Megadeth (aside from Ellefson, who's also gone) doesn't mean other bands have to be the same. James genuinely loves Lars like a brother. That's not sad, that's admirable.
@@BatFan1 You can call it what you want. But was Lars always good for metallica? No. Look at what he did to the bass on 'In Justice for all." Im saying Dave represents a part of metallica we never got too much of, and would be more valuable than James making another album with Lars. Also I want to add, James and Dave were making something together without Lars, but James still wanted Lars accredited. Why, as far as we know, this wasnt a megadeth and metallica collaboration but 2 individuals coming together to make music. James's overloyalty to Lars and that this collaboration will never see the light of day now, is what makes it sad. That James couldn't do something without Lars is Sad. This is an L for the metal community. I don't see how you can't.
The Metallica guys are worth over 300 million each, Mustaine is worth at least 20 million. Don’t know why they would even bicker over table scraps at this point.
That seems to simplify a very complex situation. A situation that involves a lot of money, like a lot of money being made and lost out on. A lot of egos involved

People should just stop asking Dave the same shit they have for 30 plus years. He’s actually a nice guy I met him in May and super talented. Even Lars said in an interview the press won’t let the subject go, sticking up for Dave
Would be sick if they did an EP and on one of the songs James does a verse and Dave does a verse, James does a solo & Dave does a solo, like Halford & Dickinson did on the Halford album. Then add in a 2 part harmony...

@@jeremyjames1659 James Hetfield wrote those songs too. And Dave Mustaine only had major influence on Kill em all and already less on Ride the Lighting. He wrote some of it but not all of it. Master of Puppets regarded as their greatest album ever had nothing to do with Dave. But Dave gives credit to James for the songs off Kill em all too.
It's already been done, before Megadeth Mustaine was the guitarist for Metallica, Mustaine also wrote "Jump in the fire" and a couple other songs on the "Kill Em All" album
They HAVE made songs together!! LOL. I'm 40 years old and been a fan since I was in 5th grade. I love how many newbie fans there are because it makes them even more legendary. Megadeth too. Dave was in the worst spot anyone in life could be by getting fired from MetallicA and instead he counters with a band many actually liked better than MetallicA. I love BOTH. I think his parting ways was a blessing because we get both now
Nice content RF! Keep it comin
I hear Cliff Richard singing... "It's so funny, how we don't talk anymore .." 😄
Megadeth + Metallica = Megallica?, MetalDeth?, MegaMetal?
Was fortunate to see them share the stage during the Big 4
They rocked out to Am I Evil
Junior high never ends for some people...
What is more exhausting?
1.Dave talking about Metallica
2.Sammy talking about Van Halen
No ....
Tv. Talking about the Kardashians
I feel like there's been at least two instances where Dave has offered positive wishes James's way since whatever time this interview is I think one was on his birthday and the other was encouraging him about his guitar-playing or something like that
Dave Mustiane sobered up and released one of the greatest metal albums of all time....Rust in Peace.
He was high as a kite during that time. Bands put out crappy records when they first get clean.
@@scottashe984 He was out of rehab. I have a book about how the album all came together.
Could you imagine what Rust in Peace would have been like if it would have been a Metallica album? Dawn Patrol would be basically a drum solo because Lars would turn down the bass. And Holy Wars or Polaris with Lars behind the kit would be an absolute tragedy.
Bro drugs inspire people to make great music look at Hendrix and Pink Floyd
@@cult_horror_junkie8144 Drug experiences are probably as useful as any other traumatic experience - you'll take the hit song that comes from that place but you'd rather have the hit song and a perfect life. But as far as really getting things done, obviously drugs are for losers who don't get things done, and who haven't gotten over their problems. Layne Staley said he didn't write songs on heroin. And he wasn't worth a damn after 1995. He could still write cool songs with Mad Season but he wasn't much of a vital rock star or a conventionally good rock vocalist anymore. Crediting drugs as having 'given us good music' is like some guy thanking fate for having him be molested as a child, or else he wouldn't have picked up a bass that one day when he was sad. It may be true in some roundabout, indirect way, but it's immature and just stupid.
Yeah!! RockFeed - the news you already heard and seen 7 days ago everywhere else!
Not once in 30 years have I heard James bring up Dave. Only talks about him if asked. Dave talks about James daily. It’s kinda sad.
Iv always been hoping for a side project that had both of them playing together. That would be amazing!! 🙏🏽hopefully
If James does a side project of any kind, he owes Jason a MASSIVE apology.
Megadeth could play Metallica's songs, but Metallica can not play Megadeth's songs, they are another level.
If only "harder to play" meant "better song"
Dave is like that ex that you want to stay friends with but can’t cause whenever the opportunity arises to talk about how they got hard done by they jump on the chance and it’s been 20 years. Ego is a strange beast.
more like 40 years...
It was 20 years 20 years ago already 😅 It's actually been 40 years.
2002 ? Hahaha
Does Dave know he has his own band called Megadeth who have 16 albums and have had great success? He spent less than a year in Metallica and 40 years talking about a few songs he wrote with them.
It looks extremely desperate
He'll never be satisfied until he's bigger than Metallica... He said that
Kill em all is my favorite Metallica album. I credit Dave to some of that
@@joesmith3908 it's also their most unoriginal album... As Lemmy Said... It's nothing more than motorhead on speed... Ride the lightning is when Metallica actually developed their own identity, style and sound
@@truthhurts79 ride the lightning is my second favorite. Man I had that on vinyl and kill em all on cassette
I wish James would do a side project with Michael Poulsen. They could get their bluesy/western/cowboy metal fix there so that their respective bands could focus a bit more on the jamming.
Wich song is on the background? Love that riff!
Just got the new megadeth..it's so awesome like next level good 😃
Dave needs to understand that Lars own Metallica. He needs to talk to Lars. I doubt James even cares.
Rock feed don't tell me what to do, oh never mind I'm already subscribed....
All these years without these two playing together, and I'm just fine with that.
KILL EM -IN PEACE tour would be nice ,with stages facing each other so allow do is turn around after a run of half hour 2 sets each then if your at the back you have the best view of both stages and every one thinks they got great tickets for one of the bands at the least, at some point they connect and play 4 horsemen ,thanks for coming, I would love that ,oh yeah I'm there right now
As much as I love JH and think he's an absolute God, he can be an uptight SOAB at times 😆 just tell Lars to swallow his pride and get over not being credited.
They are both great on what they do, Dave really need to get over this, is not healthy for him
James literally just wanted to talk through his reasoning, and it was Dave shutting everything down and walking off.
@@mdnblues I serially doubt Mustaine is broke when he wrote almost all of Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning. Those albums have sold millions and millions of copies, not to mention the money from his own band.
have you guys heard about mustaine wanting to do a big 4 show for “passing the torch” it would be crazy
Mustaine has aged like milk left under the blazing sun, while Hetfield looks like a chill grandpa.
It's not a day for Dave without talking about Metallica 🤣
Imagine Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield releasing an album together that would be amazing. Wonder what it would be called Megatallica???
They could write an incredible album I have no doubt, get Nicko Mcbrain on drums and Steve Harris on Bass...😁
Iron Metallideth.someone suggested dave mustaine.dave murray.dave grohl on drums.dave lombardo on bass and david lee roth singing.theyd call it MEGADAVE

I would love to see Dave contributing on a Metallica album
Buy Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning and read the sleeve notes.
@@BongEyedBastard these kids today lol. Gotta teach em everything
Go listen to No Life Til Leather 👍
I think James is embarrassed by the way Dave was treated in the filming of Some Kind of Monster. He was off at rehab and I feel it was planned that way. Lars was completely disconnected from Dave and Dave's feelings. I think James wants to act like Dave was never in Metallica. Again, these are my personal opinions.
As far as Dave, he was in the band for about a year, isn't on any studio albums and co wrote half a dozen songs forty years ago, but Dave acts like it was yesterday
This is irony at its finest because Mustaine never wanted to pay Poland for the Rust in Peace demo's when they were remastered and released, and threw a fit when he had to - but Poland is the one who 'ruined the friendship'.
@@Skulllywag LOL. They're the biggest metal band ever, so no, theirs no way they would have been bigger. He has songs on the first two albums, not three. None of those songs were particularly important songs for them other then Ride the lightning. He should be proud of their success he acts like he should get as much as credit as the guys in the band
Dave and James working together on such an album would be pretty great.
The first two albums with both of these bands are definitely the highlights
I love both bands, it would make me very happy to see something between them. I think it's James who doesn't want it, Dave clearly would like to do it as he has stated it numerous times.
Dave is the bigger person and better human.
@@ImYourOverlord Eh, he keeps tilting the scale in his favor whenever he talks about people.
@@ImYourOverlord Absolutely not. I do empathize a lot with Dave, he was dealt a shit hand and he made something amazing out of it, but his notoriety for being an ass is hardly unwarranted.
Just let it go Dave.
It's clear he desperately wants James' respect and approval but don't see it happening
Does anyone knows the name of the song playing in the background ?
There will be people who will side with Metallica, and there will be others siding with Mustaine. Meanwhile, there's another group of fans who fall in the "Just Release the Demos & Be Done With it Already" category. At this rate, the fans will probably miss out on material until someone passes away, and that's not fair to anyone.
Because he says shit like he was “the only alpha male” in Metallica… he whines about being kicked out, but he can’t get over himself, in the same breath
He’s acting like an irrational ex who insists that he/she will come back any day now.

I would love to see Dave and James work together again, very much. I would love even more for Lars to not be involved.
Lars Ulrich has a net worth of $350 million. James Hetfield has a net worth of $300 million. Dave Mustaine has a net worth of $14 million. Lars & James want to argue over shared royalties of two "demo" songs??? Talk about petty!
James Hetfield and Dave mustang acoustic guitar album the two of them 👌together

Thank you! I really appreciate it.
One of them needs to write a song called over My Dead body
I don't think the world wants those two to collaborate. That ship has sailed a very long time ago.

It would be insane if James and Dave would work together again, and named their band Megallica...

James will never leave Lars, its actually rather sad. Its very telling who actually is in control of metallica. It would be cool to see james's stuff without Lars influence, but I don't think that work actually exists, not in a form that actually matters.
i dont think james trusts anyone else to guide his music.
Why would you want them to split? Metallica has one of the most badass music catalogs out there.

What’s that make Jason Newstead? Clearly Lars and James have some of the biggest egos in the music business
