Editing in Davinci Resolve can be tricky! But getting used to some of the essential keyboard shortcuts can really make the whole process easier. Whether its duplicating things on the timeline with the ALT key, or cutting and ripple deleting with my custom 1, 2, 3 custom layout!

No way I waited all the way until now to watch a keyboard shortcut video. This was extremely informative, well paced, and easy to understand. Bravo. My life is now so much easier.
This is a game changer for neewbs... I needed this video 3 months ago! Using Premiere Pro for a client, I realised ripple cut was faster than my usual 2 key cut and ripple delete! Great video as always Alex!
Best videos on RUclips. Always something new to learn, thanks Alex
Thanks for making these videos!!!!
Important Note! I made those shortcuts from 1 to 3 with the key before 1 being undo but I also put 5 as redo and 4 as Delete all gaps which doesn't cause that issue you had with ripple delete because it closes the gab you made but leaves everything else in the same relative position. ;)
Awesome as always, Alex - thank you sir 😁🙏🏻
Great tips! Thanks for sharing! ☺️
The Alt/Shift keys were new to me and very useful. I'll definitely be using cut to end of clip and I'd never heard of that undo key! Brilliant! I do have the speed editor, never have unboxed it. (came free with my Sudio license.) Would love a video series on using the speed editor!
Great tip!!
LOVE your videos. Fun, light, well-paced, super helpful. Thanks so much.
As usual a well presented video to make our lives easier. Well done Alex.
The first video on shortcuts I've properly understood, thanks so much. You don't treat us like kids at school but its the simple explanation that works best. You cover a lot but yet it's just at the right pace to grasp it. Awesome can't wait to hear about the editors . Cheers Darren.
Hey Alex! Great thanks for remembering about peoples, who do Multicams-stuff (concerts, dialogs, interviews...) 😅🤘🤘
Great job, keep doing please :)
Tips like these are why I subscribed. Great video!
Another great video, Alex!
I've been editing on Resolve for 4 years now. I still learn something new every time I watch your videos. Thanks for this
Another very helpful video, Alex. Thank you!
Useful? YES Indeed!! Notes were taken. Developing muscle memory awaits! Thank you, Alex!
I didn't think it would be quite so helpful but obviously it was:) I love how I think I know a lot of the keyboard shortcuts and then out pops another one that's completely helpful. Thanks for the vid loving your work
I‘m working since several month with Resolve, but with every video of you I learn something helpful. Thanks Alex
Always love your videos and sharing them with our film group, thank you Alex, I know you are working like crazy and appreciate all the time you put into keeping your YT channel going. I remember when you first talked about the ALT key, what a game changer.
Just wanted to drop a quick note of gratitude. Your simple and easy-to-follow videos got me started with DaVinci, and I've learned so much. Thanks for being the inspiration behind my own journey into the video editing process. Keep up the fantastic work!
YOU'RE A GOAT! I had it bound to Q and W but this is feels so much better
This video was absolutely awesome. I am gonna edit so much faster thanks to you man!
Thank you so much for your effort, every video of yours has a lot of useful information. Keep up the good work you are one of a kind
Your tips are really awesome!
This is an awesome video! I do use a lot of keyboard shortcuts but i also have a Tour Box i use in my left hand with a ton of shortcuts on it. I probably use it for 80% of the editing.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and providing so many great tips. Awesome video as usual.
ALT also super useful, if you e.g. zoom or rotate, ... in the Inspector, to fine-zoom or fine-rotate if ALT is pushed while the action.
Spent all day trying to figure this out and you went into so much context about each part you really impressed me when you showed the overlapping. Well done and much love on your journey
Just used those shortcuts with one of those 6 keys + knob mini keyboard from Ali (paid 12$), and it woooooorks ! Many thanks Alex !!!
This was such a helpful video! Thank you!
I did put ripple edit on my two mouse thumb buttons. Such a workflow enhancement!
this was extremely useful. After not doing editing for months, i came back to a new version, new computer and couldnt remember how to edit quick. Thank you!!! I love your channel
Great tips, thanks! as a side note i reassigned cut to angle's onto the number pad.
I like to use layer key, example i hold space + d to make function like backspace
You can use tool like auto hot keys, touchcursor or keyboard firmware like qmk, to make this work
If you use windows i recommend touchcursor first for easy to use and then when you want more power next to use auto hot keys
😇Excellent tips, as usual Alex! Thank you!!!
AWESOME!!! I’ll watch this again so I can write them down for reference.
Super helpful!!
Excellent tutorial bro
Thank you good Sir. I hope you do more beginner tips series.
Really good tips. I am struck by Davinci's designers logic. Using the Alt and Ctrl keys for example - they are so logical! Even if I didn't know for sure what a key does, no doubt holding the Alt key and something else would make sense after I tried it a few times. Good job Davinci.
Thank you, this was really educative. I switched to Resolve a couple of months ago and I love your channel. The first thing I did when I opened Resolve for the first time was to assign the Y and U for the ripple edit and the H for the cut. It's the default keys for Avid Newscutter which I worked with for over ten years. BTW I just purchased the paid version today, you were a big inspiration for doing so.
Thank you!
Thank you. Tbis is helpful
ripple: end to playhead - ctrl+shift+] = 3 (right to playhead cut? i think), start to playhead = ctrl+shift+[ = 1 goes left (lol). Can click on ! and it will show you what the overlap is (really good info this one is). ty :)
You are the best, thank you 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Hello, Thank you for the tips. you are the best 😘
Great Video Alex! i can also add if you are using the arrow keys you can also hold SHIFT + left or right arrow to jump 5 frames. So basicly use left and right with "no shift key" when fine tuning before an cut, then hold shift when "traveling" a bigger distance" :)
Good stuff! I also take this one step further. I have a Logitech gaming mouse with 11 programmable buttons and assign my most used keyboard shortcuts to various mouse buttons so I can also use my right hand for quick shortcuts as well.
Thank you sir..
I wanted to do this remapping of key shortcuts but then again, I thought it may better to just use and learn the original Blackmagic well-thought shortcuts. Then I finally did remap the most important ripple delete left and right to 1, 2, 3 keys and this is AMAZING improvement! Highly recommend it to everyone. Also remapped JKL to QWE just underneath the 123 keys. Works like a charm 👌
Me and my mate were literally talking about editing our videos yesterday, and about shortcuts in-particular. gonna send him this link.
Nice work my dood 👍
Hey MrAlexTech, I spent a whole week watching all your videos that I've saved in a playlist called Workflow. Then I wrote my Resolve manual to make my Workflow as fast & efficient as possible, & customised my keyboard accordingly.
& just when I thought I got it all sorted, you tell us about the 123!
Thank you for the valuable information
Super useful ! Now to memorize them is a different subject 😀😀😀...
thank you so much
Thank u so much, I tried to do this for weeks...
Thanks a bunch man, u saved me so much time
Holy crap man. This just saved me a lot of time editing. Thanks for the 123 tip.
Very useful to know, I always keep forgetting them though 😅
Shift+Z was great !
Feels like yrs since I've even opened DR. smh. I gotta get back into it. Thanks 'lex
very good Thank you Alex,
Can you make a video on a $1 Fishing rod, $10, $100, $$$ Fishing Rod?
@@ImagineOnward i wish was that cheep here in the UK,
I use the ripple/shift/del all the time. Speeds up editing so much. It's a bummer that the Speed Editor doesn't support that.
Just when I think know resolve......I get another tip from the KING !!! Loving your work. 8-)
Would love to know if you can do something to assign the keys on the speed editor for the 1-2-3 options 8-)?!?!?!?
i had no idea there were hotkeys for pulling only video or only audio into the timeline. that'll definitely be nice on my next podcast edit
I use the speed editor jog wheel. I think I will assign the Funktion to the arrow keys
The most used keyboard shortcut:
Premiere: q, w
Davinci: Ctrl+Shift+[, Ctrl+Shift+]
Legend
No more Q & W? Cool. The 1,2,3 is easier & faster. Thanks Mr.AlexTech.
Time saving Video & I also want Speed Editor Review is that really usefull...?
YOU ARE THE MEN GOD BLESS YR FAMILY
Ripple delete, my favourite feature for fucking up the whole timeline without realising.
One thing about softwares using tilde and square brackets and such for essential shortcuts, is that... Unless you are in america, using american keyboards... These shortcuts gets impossible to use by default. So the ability to remap these shortcuts to buttons we outside that region can actually physically press, it becomes essential. Even such a simple thing as moving stuff by number of frames and timecode with the numpad gets totally broken as the decimal point isn't internationally standardized. So I needed to do some very cumbersome dark magic to make windows regain my usual layout and still get "." Instead of "," from my numpad decimal point.
Sure a lot of memory involved here. I guess that's why they still sell editing keyboards. I do end up using hte JKL method if I am using my keyboard - just to add - If you hold the K down and tap the J or the K it will advance the playhead by one frame. If your hand is there - it's a lot fast than using the left and right arrow keys to do one frame.
Speed editor. Great 😊 is it worth when you edit only in edit page? Can you assign camera buttons? Waiting for review
Once again, you did a great job of explaining. I was even able to pick up something new for myself (as a full-time editor): Shift/ALT + Drag&Drop from the Mediapool. I really didn't know that yet and it will help me again at one point or another. Super Super!
I have a special question, maybe you can answer it in a tutorial: I have a clip and have cut out the speech pauses. Now the clip is divided into 5 parts. Let's assume that Undo doesn't work because you have closed the project and opened it again the next day, for example. Is there now a way to remove one of these cuts again so that the pause (or whatever you have cut out) is there again, frame by frame? So far I've always done this manually, which can sometimes be a lot of work.
Excellent and thank you! Disk related questions . . . If I am correct, with the DaVinci Resolve program on your "C" drive, my understanding is that your project files should also be on your computer's hard drive . . . Yes? That leaves cache & render files . . . Can they be on an external ssd drive? Should all project render & cache files be in one location or should they be assigned to folders in individual projects? Also, should your video and audio files be placed anywhere you want or in a designated area and is this what DaVinci Resolve means when they ask where you want "Media" files? What do recommended for drive locations for all files? Do you have a video link worth viewing? Most appreciative! Looking to make things "easy peasy"!
A shortcut cheat sheet would be cool! I know DaVinci had one but it's over complicated.
Very useful. My problem is that I can never remember them!
waiting for speed editor video!
Thank you. did my custome set up. However, for me, when i have 2 assigned key strokes for an action, it doesnt work. i have to erase the one i wont be using and only leave the key stroke i want to work. i have studio so idk whats up with that.
is it cold in there? what's with the lid?
Got an off subject question. I have been using DaVinci for about a year, love it. Starting about a month ago I started having many of my clips (video or still) becoming unusable I get a red icon that says Media Offline, when nothing has changed. I can delete it out of resolve put it back on and it works for a while.. It is just weird and it's starting to it more. Any help would be appreciated.
I make it even more simpler... Numbers 1-9 in the right hand side. Easy all of these tips custom to the num pad. Easy. 1. Cuts left. 2 curs right. 5 is undo
i like to map F1-F2-F3 no conflict key by default
your affiliate link is showing $300 for the one time purchase not $200...they can kick rocks
Wait! Shift+Backspace = Ripple Delete on PC.
Oh my, let me grab some ice cream and a note pad really quick.
No need. So easy to learn you can memorize it. He explained it perfectly.

Tilde is Canadian. It's pronounced Tild, eh?
Great video @PotOfPlenty
