After moving from Premiere to Davinci, I must say this video is one of a few that helped ease my anxiety about the switch! Thank you so much for the info!
Yes do a video on the razor device! I just got mine set up and am loving it! I'm gonna download your list so that I can add what I'm missing to my razor device 🤓
@@BillyRybka Still plan to do the Razer Tartarus single hand video? There a bunch of videos on how to use the Stream Deck and Loupedeck CT, but not too many getting into the actual real world usage of editing videos. They're mostly just going over the functions without actually showing the difference in speed of doing everything with shortcuts and even button macros. Speaking of, have you programmed any useful ones into the Tartarus? (Also, the click funnel link you used for the shortcuts download is trying to force people to sign up for their service now.)
I Think this might be the tutorial that I've been waiting for before I jump to Resolve, from using Vegas Pro for years now. I need my spacebar/s/d very easily
This is a game changer for me, I'm a gamer, I should know that I want everything on the left side of my keyboard. Modified all my shortcuts based on this idea but using WASD as a movement base. Epic stuff. This little video probably just saved me days of my future life!
good explanation of what could be used for shortcuts keys. video would have been great if you showed us where to find these in the "keyboard customization " settings lol feels like you forgot the second half of the video . thanks for the ideas though. struggling to find where to change the clip color customization =D
Hey man, I recently started creating content and have found your videos extremely helpful. Thank you for everything you do/have done (are you still making videos?)
Yet another valuable video..... Thanks Billy....and I also purchased the 'guide bundle' today...👍🏻.... I have to say I loved "All for His glory....1 Cor 10:31"....❤️
What would really be helpful is if you didn't call things like "razor" cut since not all shortcut keys are mapped the same. My default for Razor, for example, was Ctrl-B.
Billy is the Shepard guiding all of us to the Davinci Resolve promised land 🙌🏼 Seriously though man if you make a titles and text pack that would be incredible. No one is selling great modern text assets yet for Davinci. Your call out titles are good but they serve a very specific purpose. Peter McKinnon and Matti sell their motion graphics title packs for premiere pro and they are amazing but I haven’t found anything like that for Davinci. You helped me immensely in transitioning over to Davinci bro! Keep up the great work and seriously think about making a great motion titles text pack I think they would be amazing for Davinci editors!

Thank you!! This what I've been searching for! omg you're my life saver dude. You deserve a lot of subscribers and I'm your new subscribers! cheers! mate. Greeting from Malaysia.
I am a little confused. Are you saying you changed the default short cuts to new ones that you like better? If so it would be nice if you showed how to change the default short cut to your new short cut/ Also I would like to create a short cut to have the playhead jump to the very beginning of the timeline and to the very end of the timeline. How can I do that?
You first have to figure out what he's called something, in the DR world's lexicon. He called it a multi-layered "cut"", but it's using the razor tool. If you click on Davinchi Resolve in the toolbar, you'll see that there's a keyboard customisation tool that you can find what the actual bindings are, and what they're called.
BILLY! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me a plugin like video copilot saber plugin but not for after effects but for da vinci, i trying my best to do the neon trace effect, please reply or make a video on this
Thanks!!! Great video Billy! - BUT I'm new to DaVinci and just messed up my keyboard shortcuts!- Can I reset them??- can't find anything in the interface! Do you have any advice how to fix the problem??
It would be helpful if you shared what the actual Resolve commands these correspond to. For instance, what you call "Default Transition" is "Add Transition," so if you search for "default," it won't come up. In order to set up your 'M' for "Marker" command, you have to search for "blue" or w/e color marker you want, (and granted that's Blackmagic's fault for not including menu/submenu titles in the search, but...) and I still don't know how to set up the 'MM' keystroke. Also, I went to download your settings file, and it says "Just type in your email and I'll send it..." but there was literally nowhere to enter an email address. Not sure what that's about. Anyway, these were good shortcut ideas! Thanks for sharing them.
Pretty good video. Casey Farris did one like this, but he showed how to do the changes in the keyboard setup under DR preference. Because some of the things in the preferences are worded weird. The Q and W I’ve tried to set to a new keyboard preset, and change the default by adding these to Ctrl-Shift-[ and ] respectively, but they never work. S works great though. I have a Razer Nostromo that I was considering setting up to emulate the default keyboard shortcuts. The Nostromo has a wheel, and I was going to set that to J and L for replaying faster forward and reverse. Also, I use the Razer Hex (I think the newer model has a different name). This mouse has a side plate with seven buttons on it. I set this up for MMO gaming, to access game attacks on different toolbars along with the Nostromo. On my Hex, 1 is Shift, 2 Alt, 3 Ctrl, 4 Shift-Ctrl, 5 Shift-Alt, 6 Ctrl-Alt, and seven is for a game specific function but could be set up for a DR function. The Hex mouse wheel also registers left and right tilt. This is normally for scrolling up and down in a webpage or document. While writing this reply, I thought that would be good for jumping left and right to the previous or next cut point / b-roll / marker / etc instead of mousing up under the preview and clicking |>| By default Ctrl-M inserts a marker and opens the pop up window to change the info for the marker. Please consider your offer to show how you use these to speed up your work flow.
I have your s set you a key on my mouse next to my thumb, I have delete set to the other button next to my thumb, I have another button on my mouse that when I move the mouse to the right while holding the button to select everything to the right and same for the left when I move it left, I have the colours on my numbers as well and it helps to have RGB keyboard so I can see what colour is each etc. most of my other keybindings are very similar o you. Good video btw, keep up the good work.
basically moving the premier pro shortcut to davinci...would be good if you show the shortcut setting name, as some of them aren't exact the same as you said in the customization
what do you mean when you say "I set it up as ESC, or I set it up as A" for example when I hit A nothing happens, to select all clips to the right. The shortcut I was using for that is ALT + Y ... so, my question is, is there a way to set your own shortcuts? And that is why a lot of these you mention don't work for me, because I didn't set it up like that? THANX
You have to edit them yourself, CTRL-ALT-K will let you edit the shortcuts. The problem is he sort of made up his own names for some of the functions so it may take a bit of hunting around to find the specific stuff you want to do.
Best shortcut is jkl. I wouldn’t change those as they are pretty much standard. I do like some of these though. Great tips. Especially for the novice editor. One thing I would do though in your videos is to ensure you include the Mac shortcuts. All of these u mention are PC based. Never once did u mention cmd +. Also the Razor keypad u mention is PC only. You might want to let your viewers know that. If they take your word as gospel and go out and buy it and not check the sys rec’s on it they might be a tad upset if they are Mac users. Just reminding u not to forget the Mac peeps out there. Good video though. Keep it up.
As mentioned the reason why I changed it was so I dont have to move my hands around and have to look for JKL. Macs have a control key as well. I didnt realize that the razor keypad was only mac. thanks man!! really appreciate you telling me that stuff
i think it's counter intuitive or better yet more confusing to add the commands for mac, they always confuse people. mac users should know their alternative commands, since mac is made by apple and is just 1 company, whereas windows is sold on all kind of pc's aka the rest.
Hi. Do I first need to de-assign keys in case they are already used? e.g. the Q and W shortcuts do not work since in my case they are already assigned.

Nice tips! Similar to tip #5, "Delete All Gaps", I wish they would add a feature where I can select, say 6 clips then right mouse click to bring up an option to "delete gaps within a selection" that would delete the gaps of just those 6 clips. Anyone else find a need for such a function?
