Fun fact: As mentioned in ep 1. Raph has a "fear stink." Which is a joke, however, it's also a reference to Raph being an Alligator Snapping Turtle as Snapping Turtles are said to secrete a musky odor when they're stressed or irritated.
That’s one of my favorite things about this show! The characters aren’t just animals psychically, they also have the attributes and behaviors! As a animal nerd, I highly approve!
I love how it became a bit of a running gag, with Raph having various "stinks" for different reasons such as an "amazement stink" and a "sneaking up on people stink"
Red eared sliders (what Leo is) show affection by rubbing their heads against things Box turtles (Mikey) have a tendency to go into their shells when startled
Surprised you didn't talk about April's relationship with the turtles. Feels pretty organic and so enjoyable. Feels more like a part of the family more than anything in this iteration. Plus, Donnie and her have such a sweet best friend dynamic as well.
Definitely, her relationship with the guys in this one is amazing. I also love April and Splinter together in Rise. It feels so natural how they talk and hang out with each other in this version, she really does just feel like another family member even when she's not physically present. "Maybe I will call April. She is no snitch!"
yeah especially after the disaster that is the new April relationship with the turtle, it's the most normal yet so odd things they do for April in Rise
Yep, i agree. Rise honestly did a better job handling April's relationship donnie than the 2012 series. Dont get me wrong, i loved 2012 tmnt, but my biggest issue was how the whole "donnie having a crush on april" stuff continued on and on, and it started to get repetitive and kinda awkward.
I LOVE that the turtles are different species. It informs the character designs to make them visually unique (which goes against the point of making them ninjas, but they aren't really known as the "Ninja Turtles" in Japan lol) while also giving the show a kind of found family aspect which is super wholesome. It's just perfect. Hope they continue doing this kind of thing in future TMNT projects
yknow i find it kinda strange that with each new tmnt entry, the franchise progressively became more about teenage mutants rather than ninja turtles. But these entries are pretty good regardless.
While I will praise their designs in this iteration being more than just different colored bandannas, there is one major critique I have with this iteration as a whole. And oddly enough, it was the Nostalgia Critic that pointed it out. While you can tell all the turtles apart from a glance this time around, you CANNOT tell them apart from their voices. While the turtles have always sounded similar to each other in each iteration because they’re brothers, there was always a difference in how each one spoke that was easy to notice and pick up on. And each turtle’s speech pattern represented their role in the group. Leonardo, being the leader, always spoke calmly and reserved, rationally and clearly. Raphael, being the hothead, always spoke crudely with a hint of sarcasm Donatello, being the smart one, would often speak in technobabble. Michelangelo, being the party animal, spoke in a very relaxed way and would often be the first to crack a joke in any given situation. But in Rise, they all speak so similarly to each other that it would be a genuine challenge for someone unfamiliar with the show to tell them all apart from voice clips alone.
@@jalocool2807 Kinda, yeah. They all sound the same, so it’s difficult to tell them all apart. Each turtle has a distinct personality that is showcased by their dialogue. But since they all sound the same, they all feel the same. No turtle stands out against the others.
@@Purechaos61 I can tell the rise turtles apart, by the way they speak It’s not that hard. And also the modern teenagers (not traditional, ninja Warriors,) of course they may have some similar favorite activities
This iteration is the reason I'm into the TMNT franchise as a whole. ROTTMNT is criminally underrated, and it's upsetting that this show was given the short end of the stick. Thanks for brining some light to it, Saber :)
@@evilcartoonmoon3370hey, just making sure you know what "underrated" means because the way you used it is contradictory. Underrated means it doesn't get enough recognition for how good it is, nothing "deserves" to be Underrated because Underrated literally means it deserves more attention.
@hayleescribbles Personally for me the 2012 iteration was my favorite, not to say rise was bad cus I liked it too but not as much as the 2012 one, the villians in rise weren't that memorable but again i cant blame the team as they had to rush due to the cancelation, but i do feel the older fans shit on this and mutabt mayhem way too hard for apparently being "woke" ( cough cough...itsagundam) mutant mayhem got me back into tmnt and had me appreciate rise better Yes rises humor isn't always spot in but it's still enjoyable and incredible animation
Not to mention, I love how there’s no forced romantic sublet between one of the turtles and April. It just creates so much uncomfortable tension within the show whenever they make one of them have a crush on their best friend. I think that’s one of the things that sparked my interest in ROTTMNT.
So what your saying is you don't really have friends or have never had a friend who liked you either secretly or obviously...I've had several some even ended because they were that hurt that I didn't look at them that way others actually got closer after talking to them about how I didn't look at them that way... Its absolutely not that uncommon with people who are actually your friend and not fair weather friends. It also generally doesn't happen because it hasn't been until recent adaptations that they feel this weird need to make April around the same age. She was literally created as a middle aged black women, her entire point was she was an adult who could go places they couldn't
@@lutherheggs451 I mean, not close friends. I’ve had friendly classmates who have liked me, but not rly friends. For some reason it’s almost always red heads who like me, idk what’s up with that..?
The reason everything was so rushed was because of the cancellation. It was difficult for them to keep and cut things that were both important to the plot and/or entertaining to the viewers. Even with the cut, I think the fast pacing really brings in some realness; enhancing the sense of anxiety and inability to process what's going on, causing the viewer to feel what the turtles are in stressful situations. I am so grateful for you and this video. Rise is a beauty and deserves another chance. We were 100% robbed. Thank you so much, Saber!
Also, season 2 was cut well after production began. Some episodes were already completed at that point, some were fully voiced/storyboarded, and they just didn't have the time to retroactively go back and change the pacing/conclude all the open questions. To top it off, the crew was split between working on the show and the movie. With how much they had working against them after S1, it's definitely a miracle that the worst thing about the ending was that it felt rushed at points
We also could’ve gotten 7 seasons. 7. We did this show SO. SO WRONG. Since it’s still paused, I hope we can bring it back in some way. Let’s just support and watch as much as possible guys!!
Omg that would be so incredible(if it's not a slog, which I don't think it will be) I NEED more. It's definitely doing a lot better/could do a lot better today than it did in 2018
You have no idea how much this video means to me. For big RUclipsrs to be still making rottmnt videos over a whole year after “it ended”, it’s amazing. We still have a chance for this show to be revived, unpaused, whatever. We just need to keep demanding it! #saverottmnt #unpauserottmnt
8:03 Donnie's shell is not misformed, he is a soft shell, which is an actual group of turtles. Mike is a box turtle, they have fun colours and can completely close their shell, Rafael is a snaping turtle, which I why he is big and Leo is a red slider, explaining his eye marks. Alla are different species making them more diverse in design yet they are still family.
Fun Fact! A lot of the Rottmnt voice actors originally voiced characters in the TMNT 2012 series! - Eric Bauza - Splinter (Rise) and Tiger Claw & Hun (2012) - Rob Paulsen - Foot Lieutenant & Dastardly Danny (Rise) and Donatello (2012) (he also voiced Raphael in the 87 series) - Greg Cipes - Shelldon & Malicious Mickey (Rise) and Michelangelo (2012) - Seth Green - Loathsome Leonard (Rise) and Leonardo (2012) - Hoon Lee - Shredder (Rise) and Splinter (2012) - Zelda Williams - Cassandra (Rise) and Mona Lisa (2012) - Gwendoline Yeo - Karai (Rise) and Shinigami (2012) And so much more!
I loved the Mud Dogz ep! They were able to get everyone but 2012 Raph to make a cameo, and I thought it was such a fun nod to the predecessor series! Also, Rob Paulsen was a director on the show (I believe specifically he helped recruit a lot if not all of the vocal talent), so truly it was made by some passionate folks 😊
Okay- Saber how do you mention how extremely talented every cast member is… And then not talk about Ben Schwartz?? Ben Schwartz is awesome!! The dude is literally becoming every blue character ever, and I love it-
Teen Titans Go caused people to believe that comedic and episodic shows are all going to be inherently bad, especially when it’s a new version of an old show.
Teen Titans Go hurt me as a fan of the original show. I like comedy most of the time, but the first Teen Titans managed to have that AND dramatic moments too. For example, the episode where Slade came back. Cyborg hits him with a giant piece of machinery, but Slade's new powers let him melt right through it. You had the drama from Cyborg shocked that his attack did nothing, and the comedy of Slade remarking he had been looking forward to a clever comment.
Rise was never like Teen titans go That's something else And now Tales of the tmnt is coming to Nickelodeon But Rise is still paused by flying Bark productions and its gonna move to Netflix
I thought ROTTMNT was just a Teen Titans Go version of the 2012 show with no action and no story. God, I am so stupid. I am so sorry, ROTTMNT. You deserved so much better...
ben 10 2016 had its issues. the final 3 specials and the movie were the best parts too. vilgax becoming part celestialsapien. alien x being an omniversal threat as a villain. another crossover with generator rex@InevitableOption-ic2vx
I find it really sad that just because of the character design that people immediately compared it to the most low-brow humor cartoon show based on surface details such as how it looks. Just...incredibly sad.
As much as we believe we failed it, remember Nickelodeon should have done more to promote it. They dumped the movie on netflix, and immediately moved on to the new movie and upcoming series. It was a great show, amazing really, but its not a show viacom executives want.
They also threw the show on Nicktoons before season 1 finished airing, gave it a terrible schedule, and the merch rollout was pathetic. Sure, people didn't give it a chance while it was on, but Nickelodeon made it flat out impossible for it to succeed.
And even with mutant mayhem I must admit- as much as I loved the movie, they did a horrible job advertising it in my opinion. I had completely forgotten about it until my mom and brother took me to see it. “Hey, we’re going to see mutant mayhem today!” *odd silence* “OH THE NINJA TURTLES-“ I’m serious all I ever saw was the trailer drop on RUclips, and then a couple advertisements on tv, nothing more… Nick really gave up on every character franchise that isn’t SpongeBob.
@@MMMikuruBeamLMAO, no they did not, most of that was small shit they didnt actually let anyone know about. if you werent paying specific attention, you’d NEVER know! the spaltoon was barely advertised that most didnt know! unlike mm EVERYONE knew.
Rise Is such a phenomenal masterpiece, Everything about it, the writing, the animation, the voice acting, the art design, Everything about this show is amazing. It is one of my favorite shows ever, and I wish it could of gotten the 3 seasons it so rightfully deserves, to everyone who worked on rise…Thank you. Thank you so much for making such an amazing show. This show is what got me into my TMNT hyper fixation, it’s what helped me deal with my anxiety. And to that I can only hope, that someday it will rise again. Also I want more shows to be like rise, in terms of animation. And writing. And just..everything. Witch reminds me, if you love rise, then I highly recommend watching a show called Lego monkie kid, it’s got the same animation style as rise, (heck it’s even animated by the same studio, flying barks) and it is jumping as amazing as rise, so go check it out if you haven’t already.
The animation? The art design? Its looks like garbage. It was drawn by high school students, and animated with the same quality. How can you possibly praise this design? Its awful.
I'm an animator(3D) and watching this series inspired me soooo much I couldn't even work on my job for few weeks just watching it over and over and over. My 2D animator friends are saying they can't start watching because they will immediately start analyzing it. I'm learning so much about solid posing and appealing facials every time I watch it. It's great to see someone points it out in the review. I can't believe there are people this talented in the world and it's truly amazing to see how it works out. I really wish they make the complete series but with the exact same crew. I'll keep showing it to every people I meet. I want to animate like they did. It's amazing
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 what do you mean lots of people can easily get inspired by lots of things i'm come on luffy's gear 5 was inspired by tom and jerry
ROTTMNT was such an amazing, underrated show. It's a bit goofier and more light hearted than other TMNT incarnations, but it was absolutely hilarious and the animation and fight scenes are awesome. It deserved a much bigger chance than what it got, and I'm sad it's gone.
I never saw this show until 3 years ago, when someone made a fan animation. I didn’t know where to watch it, where it aired… Until 2022, the movie showed up on my Netflix feed. I had no movies to watch and I love any TMNT, I saw Leo (my love) and watched it. My mind…. Was blown away, it reignited my passion for animation- I watched all the episodes in the following weeks, joined many people who shared our love for Rise and formed many friendships in Twitter, discord and more. Rise revolutionised my art making, made me believe i can continue to experiment and be more bold. I’m currently an art student who suffers many art blocks. Rise of TMNT gave me this light, and I owe it so so much. The characters and the writing is so heartfelt and beautiful. Heck, I even formed a closer friend groups and bonds that I currently hold so dear, without Rise of the TMNT, I wouldn’t have my current irl friends who all share this interest (our club is called Turtle Watch party), and I wouldn’t have improved my art- Thank you Rise of TMNT and anyone who contributed to the franchise and community. All of you shaped who I am today. Thank you. (Even though I doubt anyone will see this)
@@justdrippyedits9000 hahahaha hello~~~ it’s been quite a while~ Hope you’re doing great! (I dropped my hyperfixation on rise for half a year to focus on my studies!!) how are you?
I came in late to the ROTTMNT party (I was just never exposed to TMNT, my family isn't exactly a big fan), but now that I've seen the show, the movie, interacted with the fandom...this show now holds a special place in my heart. The character design is inmacculate, the humour is actually fantastic, the animation is breathtaking and a joy to the eyes, the story in both the movie and show, while simple, is very emotional, it genuinely made me cry twice, and everything about the show was lighthearted, fun, and just a great time overall. We really did fail it. I'm so sorry Rise, you were too good for this world
@darkcoeficient I understand just fine. People's nostalgia just got on their perception of new things. Doesn't mean Rise isn't a genuinely good show, people just didn't give it a shot
As somebody who grew up with the 80's version (I remember getting super excited when new episodes aired)-Rise has firmly placed itself as one of my favorite iterations next to '03. I was so happy to see the turtles act like dumb teens and have a much tighter sibling dynamic. The change to Splinter was the big thing I had to complain about, but each time we got a peek into his past it made more and more sense as to why he was the way he was. Also-BEST APRIL. Loved 03, but Rise April is just so much MORE!
Same. I never considered myself a fan of turtles, I thought they were all the same thing. Thanks to Rise I learned the origins of the turtles, I learned the names of the different versions, I even started looking at the comics.
I remember being on the fence about the show until the first episode dropped on youtube. I watched it and was IMMEDIATELY in love with the direction. Sadly I didn't have access to cable or Netflix when it was running so I didn't get to support it when it was still running. It's SO underrated. It's such a perfect mixture of western and more anime styles of animation and story telling that I feel is SO refreshing especially in the current climate. I really hope we can somehow get a revival of this amazing series. It deserves it.
Honestly I just appreciated the fact that the turtles actually had different shapes and body types instead of just the same but different colored headbands. They are actually based on different species of turtles.
It makes me so upset that Rise only got 2 seasons when basically every other version got 3+. We were supposed to get so much more stuff like Leo actually transitioning to leader, a raph and donnie episode, more Casey Jr., Karai was supposed to be around longer, a 5th turtle like Venus or Jennika. We need people to keep talking about rise, keep watching it ON ACTUAL STREAMING SITES so that they can see the viewer numbers going up. The execs need to know that they can profit from more Rise for them to greenlight a new season.
I believe Ron Corcillo said it himself on his Twitter Q&A that they had planned on spending more time on Leo's arc to become leader but they ultimately had to cut it short along with the 2nd season and thought it would be a funny joke to end the show with, ALSO; thank you for making this video this show goes so hard, hoping it will one day get picked up again !!
I think the problem with why fans back then didn't give Rottmnt a chance is that it came out at the wrong time. The show came out less than a year after the previous TMNT show TMNT 2012 ended (2012 ended in November 2017 & Rise aired in July 2018, that's only 8 month apart) so fans were still processing a TMNT show they grew to love that ended so suddenly and a new one taking it's place so quickly that fans were not ready for change so soon to the point they didn't want to give it a chance. I'm NOT blaming 2012 fans, I'm a 2012 and rise fan, I blame Nickelodeon for being greedy and forcing a new reboot of the show so quickly after ending the previous one knowing fans were not ready for such a sudden shift
To be fair, all of them had this to an extent, but Rise and Mutant Mayhem are the worst cases of this. The gap between 1987’s ending and 2003’s start was 6 years, only as long as we’re not counting Next Mutation-which to be frank I don’t think anyone does. I think that’s a perfectly reasonable length of time. It also got a similar amount of pushback from 87 fans based off the theme song alone. 2003 ended with Turtles Forever in 2009, with the 2007 movie coming shortly before TF, and only 3 years later TMNT was getting “rebooted” with 2012 (which actually is part of the reason I didn’t watch it when I was growing up, it was just too much turtles), not to mention the Bay movies coming out 2 and 4 years into 2012’s run. We already know about Rise having to follow fresh off 2012’s heels, but also had to contend with Batman vs TMNT during its run. And Mutant Mayhem being announced not even 2 months after Rise’s movie (and getting a series greenlit before the movie was even released to theaters, lmfao). There is so much TMNT content coming out literally at all times. Almost too much. TL;DR: this isn’t really a new phenomenon for the franchise; TMNT has had an over saturation problem from the jump to be honest, and before Nickelodeon was even in the picture but they accelerated the issue for sure.
This, and Nick’s god awful advertisement, and ya know what I’m gonna say it, master splinter. What the series did with splinter was GREAT, but there was almost no hints to it early on, and he turned A LOT of people off. I think his character arc could have been foreshadowed a bit more and it might have helped.
This method is going to hurt Mutant Mayhem as well. Nick knows nothing about how people work. How are they supposed to produce and advertise a show they’re actively sabotaging with their decisions?
Because of this show, I will forever appreciate the insane work Flying Bark Productions has put on this and its other projects, Monkie Kid and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
as an aspiring artist and someone who knew tmnt through the ROTMNT movie who does not have rose tinted glasses, i was so sad when i knew the rise series got cancelled. i LOVEEEEEE the art style so much, the character designs, personality, and the animation is top notch. i am so mad it didn't get the love it deserved back in the day when it released. i just know so much LOVE was poured into this series from the animators and writers, i could feel it just by watching. i hope people come to realize how amazing ROTMNT is and support nickelodeon continuing this project
This version of TMNT was unique in a good way. The new story plot was actually interesting and made you want to follow it. The changes in character didn't ruin them. It added more to their personally, and you can see them grow and learn as the series goes on.The VAs fit so well . Such a shame it got canceled. I think there was a lot of potential there
Ron said on Twitter that it could come back at the same time as tales of the TMNT, so we could possibly have 2 shows at once (which would be cool because of the possibility of a crossover like turtles forever).
The Rise of the TMNT Movie is legit my favorite piece of TMNT Media ever made. That finale with Krang One and Leo is godly, from the music to the visuals to the vocal performances. Just peak. Absolute peak.
Fr. The fact that so many people haven't seen the movie and/or bash it for being a part of Rise is maddening. I legitimately believe it rivals Weirdmaggedon as one of the greatest finales to a Western cartoon I've ever seen, which is extremely impressive given all the obstacles they had to work around.
I only discovered this show after it had ended and I cried when I found out. It’s such a good show, with so much love put into it. It’s so obvious that the people who worked on it loved it! And the energy, designs, and expressions inspire me in my art every day. I just hope that it will finally come back soon
I am so sad I showed up late to Rottmnt, I only heard about it when the movie came out. But from the short clips I saw, I gave it a chance and I ended up watching the entire series and movie in four days. It quickly became my favorite show and I was obsessed. I immediately started making artwork and showing it to friends and family, getting them to watch it all as well. I was in love with everything about it, being able to talk about it all for hours on end without breaking a sweat. The animation, characters, story, and bonding where my highlights. And it's obvious that the people behind the show loved what they were doing. The show deserved better attention when it came out, and there was so much more to do and so much more love to give out. This cartoon showed up when I really needed it, getting me through a really hard time in my life, and it's still here with me to this day. I would beg to unpause rottmnt, it really deserves it. I'm so happy that you enjoyed it and gave us this video, it means so much. #SaveRiseoftheTMNT
Guys, the big reason older tmnt fans were so sceptical was because it came out right after the 2012 version ended so it seemed like just a cash grab and rubbed fans the wrong way Which was a thing chosen by Nickelodeon, they flubbed it big time and gave it the ole Netflix treatment, then also wrote rottmnt off again and released another tmnt project while the rise fandom was getting bigger and more hype, so that project was dropped by the fans too! I love rise, basically all versions of tmnt, but Nickelodeon is making their failing mistake twice!
You’re one of the highest cartoon reviewers on RUclips, so the fact you’re supporting this gem of a show now means so much. Hopefully this video will get the show more fans and supporters so it has a real chance to return.
Immaculate Video Bro! Especially loved hearing from the people who worked on the show themselves & how they thought things out & drew them. A lot of it was stuff I was very curious about & heres hoping for Turtles Forever 2 crossover with 1987, 2003, 2012, & Rise all teaming up cause that be a Hype film.
This show displays that reboots and remakes that change drastically can work, but the response to it also shows us why reboots tend to be disliked. People dont like change. They dont like if the characters look and act completely different, and thats understandable. And with how many remakes failed not only on a visual level but also the writing, made people have less expectations, especially with something that seems so unserious. But you can see that the team of this project loved working on rottmnt, that they had passion for this show and thats also why the writing turned out good. Because they really worked on it. With stuff like the powerpuff girls reboot or teen titans go you really wonder if the people behind it do care genuinely. You can do reboots and remakes and you can change stuff in them, it works, but with how many big failures there were, particularly with more recent iterations it makes sense people are gonna be sceptical
RIGHT? Because while I love seeing the show get the recognition it deserves and I of course love to see new fans, there is the slight annoyance of like, "I tried to tell y'all it was good and no one believed me!!" It's just like, the show is spectacular and unique and amazing and I want more of it, and we could have had more of it right from the beginning had people just given the show a chance :/
@@zacharybartolo5111 yes omg, it's like, I love older TMNT, but I don't understand why the community is so sensitive to change. I personally don't want the iterations of TMNT to be carbon copies of one another, and even though rise is my favorite, it doesn't stop me from enjoying Mutant Mayhem!! Not all of them of course are like this, but older fans that insist that any change is wrong are exhausting and annoying.
The fact that you got to interview these folks behind the show has elevated you from just another introspective/ review channel into something so special and reflective that au would not trade anywhere else on RUclips or traditional media, let’s freakinG GO SABERSPARK
Seeing a big RUclipsr cover this series in depth is so fantastic! It's truly an underrated gem, and it's a shame about the minority of folk who have such a bitter view on it/won't give it a try as if it killed their grandma or something 😅The crew who worked on it were clearly so dedicated, talented and passionate, and that reflected in the fruits of their labor. I also love how they're very personable and willing to link up with people like you who want to share behind the scenes content and info about the making of with the public. Recognition is what Rise has deserved all this time, and this video is playing a big hand in helping it reach more people to get that recognition! Which is something that a fanbase hungry for its revival is really grateful for 💜💙❤🧡
This show is a precious, precious gem. The way it has inspired artists and writers worldwide has been absolutely insane to me! Bad marketing and bad toys really made it hard for people to even know the show EXISTED and ugh man MANNNNN. I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS SHOW and it’s so obvious that every single member of the crew was passionate about it as well! 😭💖
60 WEEKS PER EPISODE! BRO. The animators really did make this a labor of love. I didn't realize so much was hand drawn! I love the animation in this show and I never realized why. You could pause on any frame in rottmnt and I would bask in its glory. Thank you for this video to reveal how truly special this show is! Hahaha I love how the writers pushed back on the mandate to create a list of possibile catch phrases and they we like, nah it doesn't work like that. XD And the fact that the writers came to the recording sessions so they could learn how to adapt the script to fit the actors styles and we're thrilled when the actors delivered the lines just like they imagined! Agh! My heart at the care put into this show! How I wish we had a blooper real of the actors long improv rants! What an amazing team to have been part of! I love that the they hyped each other up to outdo each other. Did you all catch that whiteboard of planned episodes that were never given the light of day? PLEASE SAVE RISE!
I am by no means an animation buff and most of "good animation" goes over my head, but one thing I loved that makes going back to Rise over and over again worth it is the fact that "everything is moving". They consistently put in background visuals and gags that are either funny or just interesting. I can even look at basically any still frame of the show and get a sense of what's going on and what each character is feeling. It's like countless still frame comics because they shove personality into each still and I cannot appreciate it enough.
Hard to imagine people hated the art style, always found it mesmerizing! My family and I were hypnotized watching it, my son loving it the most (as he’s always indulged in TMNT merchandise). Awesome video essay. 😄
I love LOVE how they made each turtle a different species, as someone who struggles with telling characters apart at times this was so appreciated ❤❤❤ Also the fact that they didn't make April a love interest is awesome, not every female needs to be a love interest
i also feel so guilty only getting into the show around the time the movie had come out. the push during that time within the fanbase to save the show was incredible though, so many people on tweeting #SaveRiseoftheTMNT and rallying others to watch the movie. i’ve sort of fallen out of the fanbase but when i was in it risetwt was amazing and absolutely the least toxic circle on twitter by far, everyone was so nice and supportive of each other, so much amazing art and fan writings, those are the best memories i have of my time with this show. sadly because of mutant mayhem getting it’s own show my hope for its revival has dimmed, but goddamn if what we have already isn’t beautiful on it’s own.
As a die hard tmnt fan who grew up on the 2003 and 2012 series, i was so surprised from the amount of hate rise got and how many people refused to give it a chance. I freaking loved this series and its my favorite by far for how refreshing and beautiful it was. I hope it comes back, but I highly doubt it will from how quick nickelodeon was to give it up and throw it in the trash.
This was the BEST Ninja Turtle show in my opinion, with great characters AND great visuals. I'm happy it started to get a big fanbase in the past couple years.
This is why western animation is failing. Because, more often than not, people will ignore shows that are trying something different and/or they use it as scapegoat for the cancelation for other projects. Why should executives put money into animation with good writing and visuals when this is how people react? Rise of the TMNT is modern-day poster child for "Underappreciated"
As someone who was introduced to ROTTMNT right as the movie came out, I'm so incredibly happy to see a video of this caliber come from a creator with such a massive platform. I see barely any love for my favorite show of all time, and to see it put before so many people is like winning the lottery for me. I desperately hope that by some miracle we manage to get more rise content, but even with that being as unattainable a dream as it is, I'm still so glad to be able to love Mutant Mayhem as well! I hope that paramount decides to give rise another chance, because if I see a season 3 announcement I may literally ascend.
I'm really happy to see the recent... RISE in popularity for this show. I liked it at first, and then I LOVED it. Really glad this show is getting the praise it deserved from the beginning.
It's so bittersweet to hear the crew discuss the sheer amount of effort and pride they put into their work, knowing that it was being treated like crap by executives and audiences alike. Whether or not Rise gets a continuation, they were right in the end... history is looking back very kindly on their show. I'm glad all their hard work didn't go unnoticed in the end, but sad that nobody cared about it when it mattered most.
When people realize there’s never been a bad TMNT cartoon lol. This show is literally one of my favorite shows ever. I hated that people kept overlooking it because “comedy show from action franchise = Bad”. Teen Titans Go did ruin that for a lot of franchises like Ben 10, Thundercats, and others but TMNT was always action and comedy. I hope we can get just one more season and movie #saveriseofthetmnt
The comedy needs to be really good though for it to be justified. Some things in Rise were funny but others just came off as obnoxious. Plus, one of my favorite characters, Splinter was turned into a complete asshole as well as Raphael turning into a completely different character. Like what was the point in making a TMNT series if you were going to change things to such an extreme degree?
@@snail2074Splinter isn't an asshole in Rise, if anything he acted more like a normal dad than any other incarnation at that point. Him starting off as lazy and uninvolved is meant to give him a more defined character arc, where he realizes he's been a bad teacher/father, and tries to do better in both regards. As for Raph... I mean sure, he doesn't have anger issues, but he's still the team bruiser. And it kinda makes sense that he can better keep his emotions in check here, since in his own words, he has to be the responsible one and make sure his brothers are safe all the time.
Comedy show from action js bad huh. But i exactly love this type of shows (with good comedy and good action scenes and good story). Lets just forget that the internet loved one punch man.
To be fair the comics are actually far more dark than any of the shows we’ve ever seen. Even the beloved original turtle show got backlash for being too goofy which is why they had the red sky age. But 2003 showed it can have story, dark, and comedy all at once. Same with 2012 turtles. April has always been with Casey not with any of the turtles. The weakest thing for me I’m 2012 was Donnie’s crush for April and his confidence. Donnie is more gentle than he is shy and 2003 Donnie was gentle and calm but also had confidence whereas 2012 Donnie is awkward. Rise I didn’t even bother with and I hear good things about it but honestly I’m fine with not watching it. Im honestly just tired of the whole making everyone black thing. Last ronin showed how to have great female characters and should have been the basis for the aftermath of that as the new 4 turtles instead of giving their personality to the original 4.
I adore this show sm. All the characters have me in a chokehold. It's animation to it's characters is all so amazing, it's story has so much protentional, that just needs more time. Like, Big mama's assistant? That's a whole mystery! Could be Venus? Maybe? We don't know! And I still want a Draxum backstory. Also I wanna know more about Big mama and her Nexus! I want my leatherhead! There's so much, and we didn't get enough. And the amount of body language based on their personalities? MWAH. Like how Leo turns away and ignore critics, or how Mikey is usually holding on to someone, and just everything and more. It's just so beautiful and wonderful and there's so much thought put into it. I have so much love for this show. Nickelodeon very much sabotaged this show, from only airing it at night on school nights, to making bad quality merchandise, to barely promoting it. It was obviously sabotaged in so many ways if you really look into it. And that's so sad, cause this is such an amazing show I could go on and on about all day every day. This show is very obviously a huge hyperfixation. I learned to draw based off their style, this show has legitimately impacted my life so much. I started watching this show at the beginning of this year, and I'm so glad I did. Thank you the entire time for this wonderful show. #SaveRottmnt (Haha, I defo love this show if you can't tell.) Also I noticed a lot of the people who like this show are queer? Like there's a lot of transmascs in the discord servers I'm in, and if they're not transmasc they are usually queer in some way? (Not always but still) It's probably cause the theme's of found family, Leo being very queer coded, ect ect. Just something I noticed. Also, there is a fan made season 3 coming out soon, that you should check out and support! The first episode is coming out soon! :)
Similar story here, ROTTMNT has become a hyperfixation of mine lately, and definitely a comfort show for me lol. I can probably go on forever about how much I adore the themes of found family, how all the brothers are so unapologetically themselves all the time, and how the family is so openly affectionate (even Donnie!). Underneath all the goofy jokes and kickass animation, this is probably one of the most wholesome shows I've seen in a while. And seriously, the animation alone is award-worthy, good god this is the most gorgeous Western cartoon ever made and I will die on that hill. Even the weaker episodes could usually be carried by the visuals and voice acting alone. Given how all the storyboarders were constantly trying to one-up each other's action scenes, as well as how the sakuga was already some of the best I'd ever seen by the end of season 2, I'm genuinely curious how SEXY this show would've looked by season 7, since that was their original plan. This will probably go down as one of the biggest what-ifs in animation history
Those animators went SO HARD! I feel ashamed I didn't give them a chance sooner, I've watched the series after it was already "cancelled", but it DEFINETLY deserves love. Animation, humor, music, fights, characters, designs, stakes... EVERYTHING. 2003 TMNT's Shredder was menacing, but ROTTMNT Shredder was a POWERHOUSE. Love every single bit of it, I hope they'll come back to make more seasons and movies.
I think the thing that hurt them was that it debuted so close to when the tmnt 2012 ended. It was a whiplash that fans who loved tmnt 2012 had a hard time adjusting to such a different style and new look for the turtles. Maybe if they gave it a few more weeks of hype and advertisements, maybe fans would be more open. I loved this! That style and those looks are the kind that I adore! It’s sad the show got cancelled but hopefully it can come back if it’s not 100% official. I know they’re planning something with the mutant mayhem tmnt, I just hope there’s room for a rise of tmnt return
this was 100% my reasoning for why i disliked it for so long, especially because the early fans of rise absolutely SHAT on 2012 and that made me even more bitter about my favorite show of all time being over (they announced rise before season 5 of 2012 even aired, like.... seriously guys???). granted i love rise now (ESPECIALLY THE MOVIE) but the first year or so was very rough 😞
@@Ewnothank iirc a lot of it was based around the first image of the designs which was first shown in february 2018 (roughly 7 months from the series premiere), and to be fair they look much worse than anything in the show - mostly because it's not a still *from* the show/there's no animation so we had no idea what they looked like in motion. like the official renders/marketing images of the 2018 turtles from before the release of the first episode look horrendous (especially donnie jesus christ)
@nerdatello huh guess that's maybe I fell in love with the serie really early on ? I didn't saw those only the first ep (is the horrendous donnie design the reason there's so many joke about his forehead 💀)
It's so refreshing to hear all of the positivity surrounding rise and the production team that created it. To hear about the positive environment and the drive that each animator, writer and voice actor had for the show makes it even better and as a viewer, it brings a feeling of pride and joy to the stage due to the incredible masterpiece that is Rise. It sucks that I got into Rise so late but I am here to support and love it all the same! Both the show and movie were incredible and have to be one of the best (if not the best ;D) animated shows out there! Rise has to be my favourite animated show to exist and it really excels in it's characterisation, animation, voice acting, story telling and more! The new approach is refreshing and delightful. The team working on this did an amazing and outstanding job and I can't thank them enough for the masterpiece we were given. The amount of passion and creativity that went into this media is incredible and I can only wish for more in the future!! SAVE ROTTMNT!!!
People: ROTMNT is too childish and has too much nonsensical humour!! the ROTMNT movie: shows Leo and Mikey dying in the first five minutes then Raph getting his brain invaded by Krang tentacles through his eyes and mouth
I'm actually surprised so many people didn't like the new character designs. I've never been a massive TMNT fan but as soon as I saw the artstyle and character designs for Rise I knew I had to watch it and I'm honestly SO glad I did!
Thank you for this video, these boys really deserved that! I’ll never not get sad while thinking how underrated this show was. It’s AMAZING, so I’m glad that people are finally recognizing it 🐢❤️ Also you said everything what I’ve always thought. Most of the show’s flaws were caused by Nick, not the creators. People were upset it was too comedy but it wasn’t even the creators idea. It’s annoying, cause the movie showed us how dark/serious they could have went and I feel like it would have made the show even better but oh well. Also I think one has to be blind to not see they had a plan for Leo since the start. Season one and we already saw how capable he could be if he wanted. I so wish they had more time to develop the story. Every TMNT had 20 min episodes, so it’s a shame they decided for shorter run this time. Of course despite all this, the show is amazing anyway and I absolutely adore it.
To be fair, I think Rise makes great use of its episode length and format. The show really knew when to give episodes the full 22 mins. Any lore or action heavy episodes were an automatic 22 mins. And like… Pizza Puffs is a hilarious episode for sure, but I don’t think I could watch 22 minutes of it.
Fun fact question: how can you be the older turtle, if u got mutated at the same time, and developed at the same time? Answer: Since the turtles here are different species of turtles, and if we take the individual lifespan of their species we have different ages of maturity. example: IRL a snaping turtle's lifespan frim the bunch is the shortest, so Rapf, is the oldest. On the other end, Mikeys is the longest, so technically he is the youngest. This show was deep in multiple lvls
Thanks for sharing your take on this lovely series! I just noticed two things in the video that maybe was missed during the editing process?? Not sure, Maybe not? But I wanted to point them out just in case. 😊 *1.* At about 08:00 when talking about Donnie having a deformed soft shell. It's actually not deformed, it's a trait of his species as a spiny softshell turtle. Just like how Raph is huge with a spiked shell as an Alligator snapping turtle, How Leo has his red "eye bannanas" because of being a red-eared slider and Mikey having his yellow spots and hides in his shell a bunch because of being an Ornate box turtle. It's part of what species they are.♡ *2.* When talking about the voice cast of the Main cast, at 27:18 to 28:30. Leo, played by Ben Schwartz wasn't mentioned in the cast listing and clips. Beyond that. I was really hyped for your take on this series when you mentioned making a video about it. It was amazing to see and it's so engaging and fun to watch! I'm super happy you managed to speak to some of the people that worked on the show to give us more and new insights into the production and the work put into it. I enjoyed all you had to say about the characters as well as the cast, writers, story boarders, etc. And all you showed us! Thank you so much! Rise is such an amazing series and deserves all the love and I really hope to see it come back one day♡✨
I am a long standing TMNT stan, comming from the 2003 series. When I saw the promo for this show, I gave it a chance. That first art promo looked really bad to a lot of fans without any clips of animation to show why that artstyle worked. My girlfriend- whom I met through TMNT- didn't want to give it that chance at first. But I watched from episode 1 and slowly convinced her to watch it too. She adores it now. And also many others I have bullied into watching it who have thanked me to sharing. I happy I could spread the love as it was airing, it deserved so much more. Fun fact though, Rise's magic/yokai setting is very much based off of the 5th 'lost' season of the 2003 one. WHile I greatly have nostalgia for 2003 and know it has aged, I'd love to see you cover it. It turned 20 years old this year.
if you love the animation of ROTTMNT i HIGHLY recommend watch Lego Monkie Kid, the animation is phenomenal, the show currently has 4 seasons and the story keeps you hooked wanting more, the characters are all unique and the designs all stand out from eachother, there’s heart and emotion within each and every single dialogue spoke by the voice actors and the humor is fun, the facial expressions from the characters feel like eye candy and the background work is even better. The show uses a mix of 2D and 3D, it’s very different than many of the Lego shows people have grown up with, ROTTMNT and LMK are both great and if you’re a fan of one of the shows then you’ll for sure like the other
I've heard of it and desperately want to watch it but I can't seem to get a clear answer on where it's available for some reason? Could someone please let me know where could I watch it?
@@xX_AstroAce_Xx sorry for the late reply, but here you go!! youtube.com/@jexie_lol?si=MzwDFGUeELIN9eng this channel posted the entire thing, i hope you enjoy the show!! :3
I've been trying so hard to convince my friends to watch this masterpiece of a show ever since I feel in love with the series last summer, but the response I always get from my friends is either, "Its a kids show" or "the desines are bad and it looks dumb" and Im going to use this video to try to convince them to watch it! Thank you! (Also i hate when people don't give cartoons a chance because they think kids are only allowed to watch it.) (Also their designs are awesome!) 😎
Fr, even a lot of the weaker episodes can be carried by visuals alone. I greatly appreciate how everyone on the team went so hard even though they didn't need to
ROTTMNT was so unfairly shit on just for looking very different from other TMNT shows; it’s situations like this that makes boardroom execs even less likely to greenlight experimental shows
I just recently found out this show existed! It's soooo good im obsessed. It's amazing to watch a show that has you laughing, but also having empathy for the characters at the same time! It's amazing to be able to relate to all the characters on at least some level and it has a pretty realistic sibling dynamic. This show existing was the best thing that's ever happened to me.
I was a casual fan of the 2003 series before and this series single-handedly has made me a life-long turtle fan going forward, hailing this as the best of the best and appreciating the other (though comparatively lesser) versions purely from my sheer need to consume more turtle content.
THANK YOU FOR FINALLY GETTING INTO THIS!! You hinted to talking/watching this I think a year or two ago on a post I made on Twitter, and so many of us fans got excited. This show is so special in a lot of aspects, and it's finally getting the recognition it deserves from its sudden shortening and the movie release. Us fans and the creators and animators and writers can only hope this gets picked up again, and told in the way they wanted to tell. HOT SOUP 🐢🐢🐢🐢
Ahhhh this series was soooooo underappreciated! Ty for taking the time to make a video on it. I had a hard time with it at first, but as I watched more episodes I got more and more attached. The animation is SO GOOD, easily my favorite part of the series. Closely followed by the characters and their interactions. I wasn't even a TMNT fan before Rise lol
As a non turtle fan (didn't watch the og, didn't really like the early '20s or the '12 series), "Rise" is my turtle show. It was the turtle designs and interpersonal interactions that got me. I always hated that in other turtle media all the turtles looked the same. With "Rise" their designs matched their personalities. And for the first time I felt like the turtles were teens with their goofiness and brothers with their love and bickering.
I seen every version of TMNT besides the 80s and 2012s. Rise is definitely my favorite. It's hilarious, the action scenes are great. You're right about the designs and personalities. One of the problems for me is that I didn't like how same they looked. Other than the masks, there wouldn't be anything to tell them apart. For personality, other than Mikey, the others never felt like teens to me. Rise definitely changed that, though I hear this adaption, they're made a little younger than others
Love this show so much! Glad to see more people getting into this show. ALSO There’s another show animated by flying bark that could use a spotlight! Lego Monkie Kid is on s3 and has been absolutely INCREDIBLE I learned about the show from your channel when it was briefly mentioned and I think it’d be cool if you did a full video!
This is the first iteration of the turtles where I genuinely love every single character. Each turtle has their own struggles, but remains absolutely likable. April is amazing and so much fun. I didn't like Splinter at first, but even he grew on me as his back story was revealed.
While I also wasn't into the show at first, I did grow to love it even more of what I saw. From the interesting interpretations to the actually awesome lore, and if course an amazing movie to go with it, yeah... it's one of the best cartoons.
One of the other things that went against Rise's favor is how short of a time it was between 2012 show ending and Rise starting. You will always get backlash from any new incarnation of something, but the 1987 to 2003 to 2012 shows feel like they had way more breathing room between each other where people were hungry for more vs. feeling like the iteration they had just grown to love was being forgotten, which I feel is what happened to Rise when trying to reach the 2012 audience
Actually, if you pay attention to small bits throughout the show, you can see how well Leo plans ahead and manipulates others to get what he wants. In multiple episodes he takes charge and comes up with plans. His leadership skills are hinted at throughout the whole series, not just one episode.
If you take something and do nothing but make the character literal piles of poop. Well excuse me if I don't want to watch piles of poop, even if the writing is A tier. Hate to break it to you, but design matters ALOT.
ROTTMNT isn’t just my favorite interpretation of the turtles, and it isn’t just my favorite TMNT show. It’s one of my favorite pieces of media of all time. I didn’t expect to fall in love with Rise as fast as I did, and binging it throughout the year was just incredible. And the movie….good god the movie. One of my favorite animated films of all time. I beg you, Nickelodeon and Paramount. Give us season 3. We’re waiting for you to announce it, and we’ll be there when it happens.
A few summers ago I think the Rise Movie actually saved my life. I was really depressed one summer and felt like I didn’t need to be here anymore. One of my cousins was talking about rottmnt and I saw the movie. Instead of being alone with my thoughts every night at 3am I was watching the show. I don’t think I would have made it. And even if we wont get it back I’m so glad it was there
I had given up a while ago. I just couldn’t see a way for nick to see how popular the show was and deserved more. I was happy to see some ppl talk about it, but it was never enough
The thing that drive me crazy about the backlash rottmnt received is that people complain about it being to different from the shows that came before it, but in my opinion I always felt like every adaptations were very different from each other, from the artstyles to the tone and even the "canon " plot points
It isn’t till recently that I have been able to ACTUALLY appreciate these characters and the story. The thing is they feel do alive like they have real personalities and problems and they actually struggle with/solve those problems, they feel like real people. The DETAIL that went into the characters is amazing, like how every turtle has a defining species of turtles that set themselves apart, they aren’t like the cardboard cutouts of each other they were on the past. And thinking back on it I feel kinda bad because as of right now I can’t watch the series and enjoy it and I feel like yes I failed it. I love them all equally because I love them all in different way, they all have different personalities and different reasons to love them so it’s hard to pick which one to favour. WHICH IS PERFECT when it comes to characters, usually I can pick and choose characters in shows BUT I can’t choose between them it’s exactly like how I feel about picking between REAL people it’s hard because you feel connected to different people. (Sorry for the ramble)
Their designs in this version were AMAZING!! This is got to be one fo the most tragically treated cartoons up there with moral Orel and The penguins of Madagascar
I wish Rise will get the love and attention it truly deserves. The reason I love this series is because how they portray the brothers and how openly affectionate they are with each other.
Before rottmnt I was never the biggest fan of the franchise, they were good movies and shows, but rottmnt brought a new light to it. I cannot believe they would cancel a show this amazing, EVERYTHING about it was incredible, from Animation, to Va, to the story itself.

Oh well...
Where can I watch Rise of the TMNT??
Fun fact: As mentioned in ep 1. Raph has a "fear stink." Which is a joke, however, it's also a reference to Raph being an Alligator Snapping Turtle as Snapping Turtles are said to secrete a musky odor when they're stressed or irritated.
VERY TRUE!! I LOVE THE SILLY THINGS LIKE THAT THEY PUT IN THE SHOW!!
Red eared sliders (what Leo is) show affection by rubbing their heads against things
Box turtles (Mikey) have a tendency to go into their shells when startled
Surprised you didn't talk about April's relationship with the turtles. Feels pretty organic and so enjoyable. Feels more like a part of the family more than anything in this iteration. Plus, Donnie and her have such a sweet best friend dynamic as well.
Definitely, her relationship with the guys in this one is amazing. I also love April and Splinter together in Rise. It feels so natural how they talk and hang out with each other in this version, she really does just feel like another family member even when she's not physically present. "Maybe I will call April. She is no snitch!"
straight up facts.
yeah especially after the disaster that is the new April relationship with the turtle, it's the most normal yet so odd things they do for April in Rise
Yep, i agree.
Rise honestly did a better job handling April's relationship donnie than the 2012 series. Dont get me wrong, i loved 2012 tmnt, but my biggest issue was how the whole "donnie having a crush on april" stuff continued on and on, and it started to get repetitive and kinda awkward.
and there's NO weird romance
Raphael, being the hothead, always spoke crudely with a hint of sarcasm
Donatello, being the smart one, would often speak in technobabble.
Michelangelo, being the party animal, spoke in a very relaxed way and would often be the first to crack a joke in any given situation.
But in Rise, they all speak so similarly to each other that it would be a genuine challenge for someone unfamiliar with the show to tell them all apart from voice clips alone.
@@Purechaos61 is that a bad thing 🤨
Its not criminally underatted its just underrated which it deserves
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 you must be fun at parties
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 bro did not watch the video lmao
@@evilcartoonmoon3370hey, just making sure you know what "underrated" means because the way you used it is contradictory. Underrated means it doesn't get enough recognition for how good it is, nothing "deserves" to be Underrated because Underrated literally means it deserves more attention.
@hayleescribbles
Personally for me the 2012 iteration was my favorite, not to say rise was bad cus I liked it too but not as much as the 2012 one, the villians in rise weren't that memorable but again i cant blame the team as they had to rush due to the cancelation, but i do feel the older fans shit on this and mutabt mayhem way too hard for apparently being "woke" ( cough cough...itsagundam) mutant mayhem got me back into tmnt and had me appreciate rise better
Yes rises humor isn't always spot in but it's still enjoyable and incredible animation
And April was maybe in a ship with Cassandra Jones
Yeah April romance with the Turtles sucks
WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN 7!!!!!!!!!!????
Damn I wish people gave this show a chance when it came out. However, hopefully it can come back in the future.
Supposedly it'll get a season 3 if the love continues
@@LocalGhostlyBirb there’s a complete Rise comic omnibus out
Omg that would be so incredible(if it's not a slog, which I don't think it will be) I NEED more. It's definitely doing a lot better/could do a lot better today than it did in 2018
@@ladygrey4113WHERE?????
That was a good twist in the film. Show dont tell
Fun Fact! A lot of the Rottmnt voice actors originally voiced characters in the TMNT 2012 series!
- Eric Bauza - Splinter (Rise) and Tiger Claw & Hun (2012)
- Rob Paulsen - Foot Lieutenant & Dastardly Danny (Rise) and Donatello (2012) (he also voiced Raphael in the 87 series)
- Greg Cipes - Shelldon & Malicious Mickey (Rise) and Michelangelo (2012)
- Seth Green - Loathsome Leonard (Rise) and Leonardo (2012)
- Hoon Lee - Shredder (Rise) and Splinter (2012)
- Zelda Williams - Cassandra (Rise) and Mona Lisa (2012)
- Gwendoline Yeo - Karai (Rise) and Shinigami (2012)
And so much more!
Im never gonna be normal about the fact that they got 2012 Splinter’s VA to voice the SHREDDER. What an amazing choice.
Can we just make it a rule now that Zelda has to be in all future TMNT adaptations? She's too good not to.
The Mud Dogz episode was amazing.
Hello ms Fabulous Trash, fancy seeing you here!!
Okay- Saber how do you mention how extremely talented every cast member is… And then not talk about Ben Schwartz?? Ben Schwartz is awesome!! The dude is literally becoming every blue character ever, and I love it-
I know! I was kinda surprised! I’m hoping it was an accident and it wasn’t like cut out for some reason
I found it werid too maybe cause people tent to talk about him and no one else (not that's its Ben's flaut)
I thought that was really weird too that he didn't mention Ben, maybe it's because everybody had been mentioning Ben at the time because of Sonic
And Dewey Duck
And Fred, from CVC.
Rise was never like Teen titans go
That's something else
And now Tales of the tmnt is coming to Nickelodeon
But Rise is still paused by flying Bark productions and its gonna move to Netflix
And Sonic Boom was so much better in comparison
Exactly. Comedic reboots of shows can be good if they don’t disrespect the fans and previous adaptions they’re based on and have good wiring
I wish more people liked TTG like me 😭
I thought ROTTMNT was just a Teen Titans Go version of the 2012 show with no action and no story.

@InevitableOption-ic2vxI don’t even understand this comparison 😅
@InevitableOption-ic2vxas the one teen titans go fan on the entire planet, I am deeply sorry that it had to be this way for a good show like rottmnt

“Hey, we’re going to see mutant mayhem today!”

As just an artist, that aspires to learn animation and really loves it, same. The fights, the storyboards, the lighting, it's beautiful

ROTTMNT was such an amazing, underrated show. It's a bit goofier and more light hearted than other TMNT incarnations, but it was absolutely hilarious and the animation and fight scenes are awesome. It deserved a much bigger chance than what it got, and I'm sad it's gone.

We need to get it back
I agree. I would give both my kidneys for the series to continue.
Also, I love how the movie gets to be much darker than the show.
It's what the MCU should've done
Heck, I even formed a closer friend groups and bonds that I currently hold so dear, without Rise of the TMNT, I wouldn’t have my current irl friends who all share this interest (our club is called Turtle Watch party), and I wouldn’t have improved my art-
Thank you Rise of TMNT and anyone who contributed to the franchise and community. All of you shaped who I am today. Thank you. (Even though I doubt anyone will see this)
Glad to see you here ☕

I came in late to the ROTTMNT party (I was just never exposed to TMNT, my family isn't exactly a big fan), but now that I've seen the show, the movie, interacted with the fandom...this show now holds a special place in my heart. The character design is inmacculate, the humour is actually fantastic, the animation is breathtaking and a joy to the eyes, the story in both the movie and show, while simple, is very emotional, it genuinely made me cry twice, and everything about the show was lighthearted, fun, and just a great time overall. We really did fail it. I'm so sorry Rise, you were too good for this world

Both are amazing in my opinion
Rise is what actually made me a serious TMNT fan. I liked it peripherally before, but I was never super into it until I started watching Rise.
Same. I never considered myself a fan of turtles, I thought they were all the same thing. Thanks to Rise I learned the origins of the turtles, I learned the names of the different versions, I even started looking at the comics.
Rise is what hit me into tmnt in the first place
Dude u shoulda become a tmnt fan when 2019 was still on 😅

Mutant mayhem is getting a 2d animated series next year. Let's hope it's good, like rise of the tmnt.
Me too!!
Yes
I remember being on the fence about the show until the first episode dropped on youtube. I watched it and was IMMEDIATELY in love with the direction. Sadly I didn't have access to cable or Netflix when it was running so I didn't get to support it when it was still running. It's SO underrated. It's such a perfect mixture of western and more anime styles of animation and story telling that I feel is SO refreshing especially in the current climate. I really hope we can somehow get a revival of this amazing series. It deserves it.

Same
Honestly I just appreciated the fact that the turtles actually had different shapes and body types instead of just the same but different colored headbands.
Not Venus or Jennika. Different names entirely 😅
@@gracekim1998 I was saying that she was gonna be the 5th turtle in the way that jennika and Venus are, not that she would be either
Plus, I don't believe the customary Usagi Yojimbo Crossover episode ever happened?

Oh no, a mediocre cartoon got canceled
I believe Ron Corcillo said it himself on his Twitter Q&A that they had planned on spending more time on Leo's arc to become leader but they ultimately had to cut it short along with the 2nd season and thought it would be a funny joke to end the show with, ALSO; thank you for making this video this show goes so hard, hoping it will one day get picked up again !!
I think Cassandra was also supposed to get a proper hero arch too. I reeeeeally hope we get even a little bit more
I also remember him saying that if the show was allowed to play through, Raph would STILL be leader at the end of season 2

@@mango_tree999 oh! Well thats good! 💙🧡❤💜
Well close enough that “Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” is coming out in april is my understanding which is a direct continuation.
I'm NOT blaming 2012 fans, I'm a 2012 and rise fan, I blame Nickelodeon for being greedy and forcing a new reboot of the show so quickly after ending the previous one knowing fans were not ready for such a sudden shift
exactly!! leave it to nickelodeon to announce a reboot before the previous show even starts its final season 😭
This is kind of how I felt when Mutant Mayhem was introduced. Like no!!! ROTTMT just ended we can't go into another series yet :(
To be fair, all of them had this to an extent, but Rise and Mutant Mayhem are the worst cases of this.

Guys, the big reason older tmnt fans were so sceptical was because it came out right after the 2012 version ended so it seemed like just a cash grab and rubbed fans the wrong way
Which was a thing chosen by Nickelodeon, they flubbed it big time and gave it the ole Netflix treatment, then also wrote rottmnt off again and released another tmnt project while the rise fandom was getting bigger and more hype, so that project was dropped by the fans too!

Rise is probably one of the few TMNT adaptations where the turtles actually act like teenagers
The new movie has teens voicing the turtles and is awesome
Hell, it's one of the few where they actually LOOKED like teenagers.

Exactly
This was the BEST Ninja Turtle show in my opinion, with great characters AND great visuals. I'm happy it started to get a big fanbase in the past couple years.
agreed. this show was nothing short of awesome, im glad more are checking it out and discovering it for themselves
Yuuppp
Everyone wants to think their experts instead of admitting they just want the same old same old
As someone who was introduced to ROTTMNT right as the movie came out, I'm so incredibly happy to see a video of this caliber come from a creator with such a massive platform.

Mid show. 2003 is better.
I think a lot of people forget how goofy the other tmnt shows were lmao
I am so sad that the series is over. I watched it so many times, and I never usually rewatch shows. Literally broke my heart
having saberspark fighting for this show to be unpaused along with the rest of the Rise fans makes me so happy and it gives me hope!
#SaveRottmnt (Haha, I defo love this show if you can't tell.)
Also I noticed a lot of the people who like this show are queer?
Thats 100% what led to the show failing. I think the show would've done much better if it was release around 2020 or 2021.
What I never understood was the hate in the design, like even at the first ep I was impressed by the animation.
this was 100% my reasoning for why i disliked it for so long, especially because the early fans of rise absolutely SHAT on 2012 and that made me even more bitter about my favorite show of all time being over (they announced rise before season 5 of 2012 even aired, like.... seriously guys???). granted i love rise now (ESPECIALLY THE MOVIE) but the first year or so was very rough 😞
It’s AMAZING, so I’m glad that people are finally recognizing it 🐢❤️
Also you said everything what I’ve always thought.
@@noneofyourbusiness2477 Yeah, agreed!
Fun fact
question: how can you be the older turtle, if u got mutated at the same time, and developed at the same time?
Answer: Since the turtles here are different species of turtles, and if we take the individual lifespan of their species we have different ages of maturity.
example: IRL a snaping turtle's lifespan frim the bunch is the shortest, so Rapf, is the oldest. On the other end, Mikeys is the longest, so technically he is the youngest. This show was deep in multiple lvls
I always figured it was because they were probably hatched at diff times
Thanks for sharing your take on this lovely series!
I just noticed two things in the video that maybe was missed during the editing process?? Not sure, Maybe not? But I wanted to point them out just in case. 😊
*1.* At about 08:00 when talking about Donnie having a deformed soft shell. It's part of what species they are.♡
*2.* When talking about the voice cast of the Main cast, at 27:18 to 28:30.
Quick thing: Donnie's shell isn't malformed, he's a softshell turtle.
To this day still one of my favourite iterations of the TMNT. This show deserved so much more, and people never gave it a chance.
It got what it deserved from TMNT and animation fans
@@evilcartoonmoon3370 Good bait bro
if you love the animation of ROTTMNT i HIGHLY recommend watch Lego Monkie Kid, the animation is phenomenal, the show currently has 4 seasons and the story keeps you hooked wanting more, the characters are all unique and the designs all stand out from eachother, there’s heart and emotion within each and every single dialogue spoke by the voice actors and the humor is fun, the facial expressions from the characters feel like eye candy and the background work is even better.
@@xX_AstroAce_Xx sorry for the late reply, but here you go!! youtube.com/@jexie_lol?si=MzwDFGUeELIN9eng
this channel posted the entire thing, i hope you enjoy the show!!
This show was soooo underrated! I just loved this artstyle. It easily carried it throughout, plus these new characterizstions were really interesting
My farts are better than Saberspark and Saberfart’s farts 💨
NOOOOO WAYYYYYY THIS CANT HE HAPPENING!!!!! THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY FAVOURITE SHOW IT KS TRULY AMAZING!!
We also failed Glitch Techs, which is in pretty much the same boat.
Great animation, not enough marketing, and not enough word of mouth.
Fun Fact: Flying Bark Productions also animated for Glitch Techs, Lego Monkie Kid, along with an upcoming animated Stranger Things series.
THIS^^
Monkey kid is on s4 but it definitely deserves some light!🎉
Lmk is absolutely amazing, it and Rise are tied for my favs
This show got a lot of unfair criticism just from the character designs alone. Even before the series aired.
And the fact many ignorant people confuse character design with 'bad animation' .
If you take something and do nothing but make the character literal piles of poop. Well excuse me if I don't want to watch piles of poop, even if the writing is A tier.
Hate to break it to you, but design matters ALOT.
Maybe they should have made better designs then.
@@fenixiliusstrife1253*sigh* there isn’t anything wrong with making them stand out. The character design is great
@@QuinnknightsThe designs were good, what are you on about?
I love Rottmnt, and I actually never really got into TMNT before I discovered it.
All I can do is thrive on fan content and my own creations, now.
I didn't get into the TMNT fandom until 2023, I'm giving my all to the fight to bring it back
YOU! You have my respect! If every fan made a little bit of effort, it can be done! I still have a ninja's greatest weapon.
@@BeeBeeDahZee Hope!
THANK YOU. This show is so highly underrated, it HAS to come back!
Some fans are making a fanmade season 3 of Rise! I'm super excited for it and it's something for now
ROTTMNT isn’t just my favorite interpretation of the turtles, and it isn’t just my favorite TMNT show.
Yes!!
