      I'll be honest, despite me coming around, I still feel like the turtles all being goofballs somewhat takes away from them as characters, but that's deadass my only complain and it's honestly a small one. Casey and April are by far the best iterations of their characters in my opinion and Donny being more than just the nerd of the team is a treat.

      Well, I wouldn't really blame people for not giving it a chance when it had every card stacked against it. First off, it premiered shortly after the 2012 show ended, which even I as a old school Turtles fan consider to be the best incarnation of the Turtles. Rise needed a few years to build up anticipation to prevent people from feeling that Nickelodeon was just trying to cash in on the Turtles brand by pushing out yet another show. Second, Rise did not have the best first impression. The premiere felt way too goofy compared to any of the previous shows before it. Heck, it was more goofy than the 80s show in its first season, which is saying a lot. Besides the animation it did not feel like it had a good balance of action, drama, and comedy. Third, it was pretty radically different, which would put off any old fan. When the first impression didn't click with people, old fans are naturally going to tune out.
      That said, I watched the movie, and I was more than pleasantly surprised. I might check out the entire show because of it.

    He had a life and success before the boys, and it was a twist of fate that led him into being their father. He never resents the boys, but can’t help but regret that he’s no longer a famous action star, left to age into obscurity.
    I feel he only trained the boys as ninja because that was the skill set he had and needed to give them something to do. Them being affection starved at the beginning of the series was hilarious, but also spoke to how dysfunctional they were as a family unit.

    and Leo makes the smart call (or tries to be the voice of reason in a sarcastic way) sometimes although he gets ignored.
    This is supposed to be them before and as they really ACTUALLY become heroes and start their adventures- and obviously Leo overcomes his ego and issues with fearing failure and being sarcastic rather than listening and being helpful to his team (which was an issue previous iterations have had as well)
    and Raph has to learn to plan more and place more responsibility and trust in his brothers rather than trying to handle all the issues primarily himself (not because he's just grumpy and wants to be alone anymore but because he's a biggest sibling and that's something all oldest kids have to learn)

    I was never into TMNT before Rise, but Rise made me a TMNT fan for LIFE! I've gone back to watch the other shows and movies, but Rise will always be my fave. I gotta say, I really love this show's Splinter - like, for as flawed as he started off, I not only loved seeing him become better, but I also just loved the story of him being able to move past his depression, his body dysphoria that came from his mutation and ALL the tragedy from his life - from losing a good chunk of his life in the Battle Nexus and getting his heart broken to losing his mother as a child. He was able to move past all of that to correct the mistakes he made back when he didn't take the threat of the Shredder seriously, becoming a true hero ^v^
    I also appreciate just how much this Splinter loves his kids and will do anything for them, being an extreme Papa Bear when he wants to be. Like- 2012!Splinter in season 1 pretty much flat out told Leo that if he has to kill himself for the sake of the mission, so be it. Rise!Splinter got told by his ancestors to let his sons become martyrs/let them die at the hands of Draxum and Splinter IMMEDIATELY told them to go screw themselves, shredding his family scroll. I also agree with your statement on Splinter! It's a shame people judge him too early and don't give the show the time of day to truely see what he's about, but he's one of my favourite characters because of how he grows throughout the show. I also love how he's more of a dad than a master to the boys, it made me much more invested every time they called him "pops" or "dad" 💕

    On the one hand, it's nice to see a divergence from the 4 archetypes repeated ad nauseam through previous TMNT iterations. The new characters actually seem like products of their environment while also still making it clear they're teenagers. On the other hand, I can see how it can throw off long-time fans.

      As much as I do really love Rise, I wish they had put just a bit more effort to show glimpses of Raph and Leo's more traditional personality traits. Not all the time, I don't think they should've changed their Rise personalities, but I feel like it would've been nice if they added in more small moments of Raph's anger and hotheadedness when fighting and Leo's wisdom.

    • @EeveelutionStorm
      @EeveelutionStorm 4 месяца назад +1

      I don't really think it's fair to say that, cause while their ROLES have been similar, they have acted like teens, it's been made abundantly clear how much pressure is on them. 2003 which Rise fans for some reason used to love to dunk on to compare Rise to (which when it was airing was a MASSIVE TURN OFF, seriously if your rec of a series is shitting on my childhood TMNT and then my teenhood TMNT (2003 and 2012) you don't get my respect. I had to come into Rise long after it ended cause fan brats who blamed older fans or outright were vicious to older fans didn't seem to get it)
      The guys have always had differing personalities.
      Mirage - it was a Daredevil Parody
      1987 - it was fun and friendly and colorful but cool and interesting. It was also extremely silly and launched turtle mania.
      The 1990's movies were what Eastman and Laird considered their FAVORITE version of the turtles to be adapted.
      tons of different comics and stories over the years, where the characters are all differently written. We only have a few select cartoon series because animation is really expensive, but the TMNT media out there is incredibly expansive. We've had extremely messed up stories, stories of corruption, but a LOT of them don't forget the guys are kids - in fact, it's emphasized a LOT. IDW especially as in that iteration the turtles and Splinter are the reincarnated Hamato family and the guys were killed as teenagers. A lot is emphasized how horrible it was to die so young and how unfair their roles were.
      It's not a new thing for TMNT to explore the characters, but it was the first time that changing things up, was treated as if the company itself was dunking on it's fanbase. That extreme in your face "This is BETTER because WE SAID IT'S BETTER" advertisement didn't do it justice whatsoever and the first two episodes dont' sell it too well either.
      I'm gonna be honest, Rise suffers from an OC problem. The story is fun, I really adore Rise and I love all the new characters we got, but I do miss the characters I grew up with and I'm legit sad just as we're getting into the meat of it, they got the rug pulled out. They were supposed to have seven seasons like 2003 and got robbed. The 2003 cast even adore Rise, so I have no issues with it at all, I love Rise and all versions of TMNT... but I did wanna say my peace of "Hey, that's a little unfair to say this is the only time they act like kids" 1987 Leo even goes through a bad boy phase.

  • @TinyVA
    @TinyVA 2 года назад +142

    - Rise wanted to make Raph leader and show how he deals with being under pressure. He comes up with plans but they never really work. Leo comes up with the working plans without realizing it. Throughout the series they were gonna show Leo learning on how to be a leader (like in the movie) but it got cut short hence why the “Oh and blue! You are the leader now!” was so out of nowhere
    - Cassandra was gonna be here own character but due to the cancelation (hard pause?) they made her Casey Jones just so they can make sure that they have a Casey. Apparently the turtles were gonna find Movie Casey who wasnt from the future was fighting Arragon or something

    • @EeveelutionStorm
      @EeveelutionStorm 4 месяца назад +1

      Honestly, it's not really outta nowhere if your following the nuance. Leo being the team "Face man" and being told to take charge of situations, how Leo comes up with the actual working plan, or how he plays to his brothers strengths. A lot of the time, Leo solves the issue or he causes one and his insecurities come up. It's the same rivalry but in reverse. Leo doesnt' SAY it but he wants to be in charge, without the responsibility, while Raph is in charge and is under pressure. The episode Sidekicks Ahoy literally goes "GASP, Leo a SIDEKICK in the CAPTAIN'S CHAIR?" was a big "WEE WOO, HE'S GETTING LEADER ROLE SOON" sign.
      I personally think one thing Rise did a little overdo it on was the amount of NEw Characters. It felt sometimes like OC overkill, while I love a lot of the new characters I missed old ones. Can you imagine if this Mikey had a Mondo Gecko to pal around with? Or if Leatherhead was a crocodile yokai of the Hidden City? And I hope that was just an oversight on the writers who were counting on later seasons to be able to introduce the classic characters over time, but it is my biggest critique. I don't hate any of the new cast, but we needed MORE characters that we could recognize and kinda hook in old and new fans.

    As a person who grow up watching the 2012 version.. I can say that they should give Rise a chance. The reason it was so goofy is because it's a kids show, with right amount of violence and goofiness, kids would like it. I can also say that I love rise April too, just because she actually tries to fight with the turtles, and not just be a bitc-and rude. Given a chance, if it was uploaded in Nickelodeon, kids would love it, and soon it will be very popular like it already was. Fun fact about the Rise original weapons: Mikey’s mace was inspired by the UK airing of the 80s TMNT which replaced his nunchucks with a grappling hook because of local standards.
    Similarly, Ralph’s tonfa were taken from the live action The Next Mutation, which used tons in place of Mikey’s nunchucks, in this case because they were easier to choreograph for on the shows budget.

    What I find hilarious about Rise April is that she and Donnie have more chemistry together than 2012 April…without even trying and keeping them exclusively platonic throughout the entire show
    (Also, as much as I love “overprotective brother Ralph” as the leader, it kind of makes sense for Leo to be the leader. He’s proven to have complete trust in his brothers and most of all, knows their strengths and weaknesses better than pretty much everyone)

    • @ooof4989
      @ooof4989 Год назад +16

      They had so much more chemistry as a sibling duo than with the weird love „triangle“ they had going on in 2012. Donnie and April were such a fun combo in rise because they actually made their personalities click instead of trying to pull a „will they won’t they, no they won’t but sometimes they could“ shite.
      exactly!! Raph, in every version, is the „protector“ one way or another but this time he actually is. As their protective older brother. Leo still has a lot of leader qualities. Even in the first episodes that was obvious (the paper ninja episode where *he* comes up with the plan to catch them.) He is capable from the beginning but still has yet to realise that. I think my favourite part was when he went to the battle nexus with splints and in the end, every „mistake“ turned out to be well calculated. He has always been perceptive, smart and was a strategist and one big difference to raph which is why I think Leo fits so well as the leader: Raph being the leader was based on Raph protecting them. He had their back and his goal was to keep them safe which ultimately never made him fully trust them because he was always ready to bail them out (poison puff episode). Leo on the other hand always had trust in them and their abilities. He knew they could keep up with shredder long enough while he went to the battle nexus. He had faith in them as being capable, the way he planned and made strategies was completely different compared to Raph. I think Raph still kept a similar „by myself“ attitude but for the reason of not involving his brothers for their own safety instead of being annoyed to work in a team in the first place.

    Okay because you talked about the character designs in Rise and the differences between their characters and their previous iterations for like 40 seconds I must now release my favourite multiple paragraph long rant about the choices the ROTTMNT crew made with Raph because he's my favourite and I have THOUGHTS(TM) about him.
    One thing I absolutely love about Rise Raph specifically is -everything actually.-
    but something that particularly grabbed my attention about him in this show compared to the others is his character design, and how it affects his characterization.
    Usually, Raph is the hothead. I'm not gonna say other versions of him don't love his brothers, because we all know that's not true, in any version it's clear that he loves and cares about his family more than anything. But he's angry and rough and usually has no qualms getting aggressive with them.
    But Rise Raph _never_ does that. And it's because he _can't._
    And all you have to do to know why is look at him. He's absolutely _massive,_ he has spikes everywhere and he's _freakishly_ strong. If he ever were to get aggressive with his brothers, say, the way 2012 Raph does, he would most likely genuinely hurt them. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed at some point that Rise Raph _did_ indeed have anger issues growing up, and you can even still see traces of that in the actual show, but considering his size and strength, he could've seriously hurt his brothers if his temper was left unchecked.
    Which is why it wasn't. Rise Raph *had* to learn to deal with his anger in a healthy way, not only because he would've become dangerous for his family if he didn't, but also because his new role as the oldest brother leads to him taking responsibility over his brothers' (and occassionally Splinter's, eventually April's) safety. He needs to use his strength to protect them, and he wouldn't be able to do that if he let his anger get the better of him.
    Again, I'm not saying 2012 or other versions of Raph are okay with hurting their brothers, hell, Raph is easily my favourite turtle in _any_ TMNT incarnation and the biggest reason for that is how much he cares for his family even if he has a hard time showing it.
    And I'm also not saying other versions aren't strong enough that they _could_ hurt their brothers. But those versions of him could get away with getting rough and angry with his brothers _because_ they didn't have to worry about genuinely hurting them by accident, because while I'd still say he's the probably strongest physically in any iteration, it was still pretty leveled between him and the others.
    Those versions of Raph never had to deal with the huge difference in strength and size between him and the rest of his family. If they did? I'm 100% sure they would _also_ learn to deal with their temper, because Raph _knowingly_ letting himself become a danger for the people he cares about? That's way more out of character than him being patient and responsible will ever be.
    And knowing all of that makes it pretty easy to figure out _why_ Rise Raph is the way he is, and you can tell that the writers and character designers in ROTTMNT truly did think things through when it came to the changes they made to his character.

    • @alandoodles
      @alandoodles 9 месяцев назад

      Honestly this was my interpretation as to why Raph is the way he is in Rise along with being the oldest this time. That combination meant he was forced to learn to manage his anger in a healthier manne early in life. Otherwise he could have accidentally hurt his brothers badly in a fit of anger. The size difference is drastic after all.

    I honestly was never big into TMNT before I started watching this particular iteration. I'd seen other versions here and there, but it never stuck out enough for me to enjoy it all that much, much less stick around. I think my biggest issue with it was with the designs of each turtle looking so similar, I had a hard time telling them apart, and honestly most of the time, they did not seem distinct enough from each other or generally interesting enough as characters to find them compelling. Rise of the TMNT right off the bat struck me as so much better when it comes to character design, and I felt that each of the turtles seemed much more unique and distinct from one another and as someone who's on the spectrum, Donnie felt especially well thought out and is by far my favorite. I really hope this show can get more love and attention and I hope to see more seasons released in the future.

    What really gets under my skin is when people don't look deeper into the family dynamic in Rise. As someone who grew up in a heavily dysfunctional family, I noticed the clear signs right away in this show, but a lot of other people (ones I can't help but sometimes think either didn't grow up in dysfunctional families, or just... let their immediate judgement get in the way) didn't see it. Watch Skulltrot's analysis of the Rise turtles, who also grew up in a dysfunctional family, and puts everything perfectly.
    *(Long comment ahead!)*
    The comedy is not only on point, not only is the animation gorgeous, but the characters are amazingly well written and can be both serious and deep when they want to be. This show has not only felt like holding up a mirror to the family I grew up in (and towards me, especially when it comes to Mikey. Coming from the baby of six siblings), but had me wipe away any tears I started feeling and take a breather to just laugh.
    I also adore how April isn't taken as a love interest just because she's the only girl. She's, instead, treated equally to the turtles and like a sister. Hell, even Splinter treats her like his own. (And as a POC, I appreciate the representation. They also didn't bucher the rep, relying into stereotypes or empathizing that she's black. They just wrote her as an actual, genuine character. There's a giant difference between awful rep, and amazing rep. They did the latter).
    Because, oh my god! Girl characters in a group of boys can actually have a personality and role of their own? They can actually not catch feelings and not be overly-spunky to the point it's annoying? Wait, wait, wait. You can write interesting, good dynamics and spice a show up without adding any romance? Who woulda' thought! Wow!
    In short, as someone who grew up on all of the TMNT shows and movies, Rise is by far my favorite, especially speaking as a writer myself. It's the only version of TMNT that I've rewatched multiple times.
    And again, the turtles aren't: Hothead (Raph), comedic relief (Mikey), the smart one (Donnie), and the responsible yet egotistical one (Leo). They have actual in depth personalities and development, even Splinter does! And the fact that they're all different turtles leaves so much room for playing into the fun facts about different turtle species!
    Also, quick fun fact: It was pretty much confirmed that Donnie is autistic, and Mikey has ADHD. 👍
    All in all, I'm absolutely disgusted and pissed off with how this show was treated. And honestly? How it continues to be treated. While it's getting more recognition and the love that it deserves, there are still people out there who are a little too extreme in their hatred for it and try to spread said hatred as much as they can. I love this show a little too much, but you don't see me trying to force it onto others, nor butt in and spread said love in discussions about disliking the show.
    It's not that hard to leave people alone. Especially when it comes to *cartoon turtles.* Can we please just respect those of us who love the show, and those who hate it? Because sometimes I'm, personally, just scared of the TMNT fandom. (It seems to be growing more toxic by the day, in my experience). Sure, I'm pissed at people who judge this show so heavily to this day, so what? That doesn't give me the excuse to attack anyone.
    *TL;DR:* I'm really just... angry. So, so angry. At various things about all of this. Even Nickelodeon did the Rise writers dirty―from what I remember reading, they told the writers to "make it more goofy for kids," when the writers actually wanted to make it more dark. To do only what they wanted. So, the writers just had to do their best with what Nickelodeon and they, themselves, wanted.

    Hey, we have the same best Aprils. Sweet. Honestly, I was surprised about the backlash on her. I mean, Aprils change in age, profession, hair colour and, in 2012, became a half alien Jean Grey. But apparently race was the line drawn?
    Like you, I gave the show a miss. Then one of my favourite analysts merged her channel with her wife’s which had a lot of the video ported and over. I wasn’t a big tmnt fan growing up and reviews like the Nostalgia critic turned me away from this show. However, Mikaela Orchard’s one got me to check it out last year. Three episodes in and I was hooked.
    I think the other Leo’s have this issue that because they’re already the leader, writers often distance him from his brothers in some way. Frankly, he’s kind of like Cyclops from X men in that way. Frankly, Rise did for Leo what X men evolution did for Cyclops; showed why he’s the leader, his journey and have him actually interact with his teammates. Gonna say this but the leadership in Rise seems to have more group activities and brainstorming than others.
    Also, this show has so many villains I want to see in future iterations. Specifically, Hypno, Big Mama and the ever entertaining Warren Stone.
    Maybe an unpopular opinion but Rise Splinter may be my favourite. He’s not father of the year like 2003, he’s not as nostalgic as 87 and he’s not as iconic as 2012 but he’s the most compelling and a more active participant in his own tragedies. Plus, after the pandemic, we have all been that trash man at some point.
    My only issues with the show are how Viacom and Nick treated it and 3 episodes tackling the same subject and flaws; Mind Meld, Repairing the Baron and Hidden City part 3.
    Also, can we just enjoy how alive this version of New York is? I swear, it feels so authentic that I’m half expecting there to be a Ballroom episode.
    If we do get a season 3, the fact that we don’t have an episode of how April met the turtles might be a crime.

    The big difference between Rise and teen titans go is that teen titans go is supposed to be a parody of the original teen titans animated series. The only job for that show was to be the as stupid as inhumanly possible. But rise of the tmnt is not in any way shape or form supposed to be a parody like that. It’s supposed to be a new direction for the turtles as a whole. They wanted to tell a whole new story in not only a light yet fun way, but also in a beautiful and epic way. And not to mention the fact that rise of the Tmnt is a god given masterpiece and the greatest show ever made when put next to teen titans go.

  • @themustardhero
    @themustardhero 2 года назад +5

    I was one of those people that first wrote it off, mainly because of how different Rise was. But now, after all of the time I've spent watching it and learning about it I can comfortably say, as a lifelong fan of TMNT, this is one of the best - if not the best - iterations of TMNT. You can tell each character apart from afar, each member actually contributes a lot to the team (which I feel has always been an issue especially with Mikey), they all interact with one another as brothers in the most familial way possible, April is actually able to contribute a lot rather than just a pretty face (too many iterations fall into the "Damsel in distress" archetype), and most importantly to me there is a strong focus on fighting and style that sets it apart beautifully. Each iteration has its own feel to combat, but Rise takes it to a whole other level by focusing on speed and more importantly, ACTUAL martial arts.
    Oh, and let's not forget the absolutely intriguing change to Splinter. The fact he has a story now, rather than just "I lost my humanity or family or both. Let's raise these turtles to be ninjas", not only elevates his character but also allows us to see his influence on his sons in a more tangible way. Going back to the last iteration of TMNT, the turtles did take his teachings and use them, but you never saw them really mimicking him in a way most kids or teens may mimic their parents. In Rise, not only do they mimic him when he was an action star, there are episodes where they dress as his former self and appreciate that side of him as well as who he is now. Don't get me wrong, I love Splinter in many of his iterations. However, this iteration not only sets him apart from the others, it also gives him an arch, something almost all Splinters lack.

Once this came out on Netflix I said why not to watching it especially sense the movie came out and I binged the whole first season insanely fast sense I loved it so much. I watched the movie after the 1st season (Netflix only has season 1 for some reason) and fell in love with the show even more I was so hyped for it after the one season I saw and it did not disappoint I’ve recently finished watching season 2 (in one whole night) and I’m honestly really in love with the show that I’m now going to watch as many of the older shows I can find. Rise was hands down my favorite.
    There was so much characterization from the moment we hit go. Donny’s choice to not use the mystic plot weapons because it’s not as good as his own tech. That’s says SO much about him as a character. It also tells you a lot of what to expect from his tech.

    I hope for season 3 they bring back some classic mutants like Bebop and Rocksteady. They were made into an easter egg in season 1 and it would be sick to see them redesigned in the shows artstyle.
    The only flaw I could say season 3 is gonna have is the main villain as the turtles don't have too many iconic villains bigger then Shredder or the Krang. And the Triceratops aliens I feel could be a big step too soon.

      I mean, if there is a season 3 (which I really hope), they would probably do some episodes that are somehow related to the main plot (like the 2 previous seasons) and maybe (I just realized this is a movie spoiler):
      The Krang could come back since one of them (the one april’s team fought) was trapped in some kind of container and probably brought to some lab or something and maybe it could somehow find a way out. And maybe Baxter Stockboy could create some technology and do an alliance with the Krang (that might seem contradictory in some way because the Krang doesn’t seem to like humans and it sees them as weak, but idk just a random idea). We never really got a conclusion with Baxter Stockboy and same goes for many villains, like the evil dentists and even big mama like after being in an hospital bed and everything what happened?

Splinters arc is great, him grieving his past and being a deadbeat dad to growing into a parent is heartwarming and quite realistic. Raph is a perfect example of positive masculinity and so endearing. Leo being unburdened with leadership at the start allows him to actually be a flushed out character rather than 'the leader'. Mikey is perfect as always. Lastly Donnie is amazing and desperately needed autism representation, from stimming, to hyperfixations, low empathy (done correctly!!) And the other little nuances, hes a perfect example of a wonderful autistic character.

    Just finished watching the tv show, tho sadly only have Netflix so S2 wasn’t available so had to watch shredder fight on YT than watch the movie.
    Quick TV show review:
    While the show felt only a handful of episodes were cannon/serious and the rest felt filler with characters development/world builder. Which is fine if you want that for lore purposes. Like fr it was like 7/26 for S1 felt cannon. Wish they gave more weight to more episodes. I would argue this is the best TMNT cuz it felt they but anime into a cartoon show. It’s cool, modern, more stylish and yes it takes awhile to get used to there character design but it not bad at all. I actually like it overall. They all have more depth and personality and the world they build it’s 10x better. A solid 7/10 show. There is also the strongest version we have. There OP with mystic powers
    My movie review:
    GOTTTT DAMNNNNN 🔥 this is was cool af! I paused at least 5 times from shocked when Raft saved Leo, the fight scene or the emotional weight at the end which made me feel sad like damnnnnn. This TMNT has the coolest bad guys lore, TMNT lore, foot clan lore, mystic powers lore and designs. Krane was so scary and badass they couldn’t win so they had to trap him like damnnnnn scary. This was a treat to watch visually a good 8/10 cartoon/anime movie

    I never had any interest in TMNT as a brand for my whole life. I remember as a kid watching an episode of the 2012 series and it just seemed boring. So I feel like having barely any prior knowledge or love for TMNT made it easier for me to enjoy rise. Because I have been one of those people before where I have a show or something that I really love and then it feels like the reboot ruined it or changed too much. So I completely understand why some people wouldn't be into it, but it also doesn't warrant like soo soo much hate and I'm glad that people have finally given it a chance bc it made me sad for a long time how ppl would just immediately say it sucks without even watching it. And I love Donnie so much in this version too. My fave

    I really hate though how I fell so far behind with this show. I wasn't one of those who didn't give the show a chance, I don't really use social media and I only saw the show when the final fight with shredder was already out for season 2, I feel so bad beause I adore TMNT and I completely missed this show, (mostly because I barely use social media and don't have cable) at first I thought the shredder fight was just a one shot animation until I finally found out it was a show, and I hunted that shit down immediately.
    I will say the designs and some of the voice acting and all of the other stuff did surprise me, almost made me want to not give it a chance, but I forced myself to keep watching because when I found out that Raph was the leader from watching the show, I was excited to see what other things they would change, and I have to agree I love this version of Leo. It always feels like he is already at his peak and doesn't have much further to go in terms of being a leader, his development in the other versions are always repetitive (not bad per se, just slow and predictable, even if they have good emotional payoff), this one chose to change the starting point for that, and I appreciate it.
    I will say too Raph was my favorite turtle from all versions, he is very cute and I love him in Rise, but my god Donatello steals almost every scene he is in. Can you remember the last time Donatello felt memorable in the TMNT movies/shows? He had a bigger role in 2012 but come on! Not even just him, I always felt that Donnie and Mickey never really get the same attention Raph and Leo do, but this show went for it. I also love this version of Splinter. I know people might miss the seriousness to his character, but I am sorry, him sitting in the lair and basically just being "the rat dad" who half the time they don't even treat like a dad, felt so boring to me.
    They do a really good job bringing the family feel to the team, it feels less like sensei and students to father and sons. I feel the same way Karai felt about their family dynamics when she came into the show. Also them immediately bringing her into the fold and calling her "gram-gram" was just adorable, i loved it.
    It was an amazing show and I hope it conitnues, I regret not having found it earlier when it first started, but I know I would've loved it!! And I hope it gets the support it needs now.

    I think the biggest change (and the reason I like it so much) is probably the personalities. They actually have character rather than just being somewhat stereotypical. and by that i mean it’s no longer just: dumb kid who likes food, stoic leader dude, super smart bro, and angry one.
    Once I finished Rise, I started on 2012. And honestly? It’s a bit hard to get through. I definitely prefer Rise over it, even if I grew up with watching occasional episodes of 2012
