Ok but Rise’s Splinter explored through the lens of “yeah, it would be really depressing to all of a sudden lose your humanity so he deals with it by living vicariously through his movies so much to the point that that’s all he does” was such a good take
Rise is the only tmnt i’ve seen, i tried 12 and it wasn’t for me but i’m sure it’s good and i’ve been busy so i haven’t been able to watch 03 or 87 yet but i really love rise’s splinter.
@@mendlests bruh what they didn't even kill the krang. They didn't even win really. Leo had to trick him to go back to the prison dimension and almost died in the process
rise leo makes jokes to cope with his inferior complex, 2012 is still probably my favorite but this leo is so good tbh and i like how in the movie you can see the depth in his goofy character
I am still endlessly angry at myself and Nickelodeon. For one, I didn’t watch the show till this august, but the reason was because I quite literally didn’t know it existed till the movie was hyped up. It’s not even fair, considering how awesome the show and movie is. I think it shines the most with the characters personalities and how they are written, and the absolutely gorgeous art style. I really do hope I get s3, because I cannot get enough of those silly turtles man. I grew up with 2012, and I was so surprised this became my favorite tmnt adaptation out of all the ones I’ve watched, but no regrets!
Man, absolutely same here. The 2012 was my childhood and staple, I was obsessed with those guys (hell, these lovable ninjas started me on my love towards Japan and animes! 🤩😍) however, this version always hurt me for some reason what I couldn't fully explain. Then seeing the Rise hit me. It hurt me how much the 2012 guys didn't feel like brothers and a family. They seriously felt more like friends and teammates who live together, rather than brothers (who were holed up for 15 years). Sure, they had their caring dynamic with each other but aside of the perfect Splinter (still the all-time banger 🤩) they just felt cold and distant with each other. Not even mentioning the bullying part. But the Rise? They felt like a family and close brothers with each other all the way through! 😍 They are sweet, caring and more wholesome with each other then ever, Raph is the best, Donnie's and April's relationship was fixed to a pitch perfection, Donnie is fully stocked with personality, and I'm fully convinced that partly evil mad scientist would destroy the world for his brothers, period. And while their Splinter was a massive downgrade in some aspects for me (seeing him in the layer games was traumatic after the 2012 Splinter) I ended up adoring how he was more loose and loving with his sons on his own way. He let his kids out into the world so early, he didn't always train them as children what allowed their personality and relationships with each other and April to truly develop, and my absolute favourite part about him what I heard from somewhere else: He was first their dad, then their master, unlike the other Splinters. F!CK YES! 🥳 This series scratched that exact spot for me what the 2012 one didn't and I'm so thankful I gave a chance for this! It is absolutely a shame how partly because of the new teen titans this show was disregarded when it had so much potential! I'd go even so far ahead to say that Leo's line about them not giving grandchildren to Splinter would've been the perfect hidden set up for a long-arching story line where at least 1 of the turtles for once would become a father. Yes, a father. Sorry for the long rant here but I'll be forever convinced that these guys were set up to have a family of their own (some of them) and I would've been over the moon to eventually, in the later seasons see Leo or Raph become a dad. So, I really hope you read through all the way here @squirrelbeez5123, sorry for the long-ass comment and info dumping here. I'm just really glad that somebody shares my opinions on my new favourite! 😁 I'm praying with you that they'll eventually get a new season but until then, I can at least tell you the name of this fan made, hand drawn RUclips series: cass apocalypse au (it has a happy ending). If you want a whole story on the future turtles and Casey then I strongly recommend you to take a look at least, you won't regret it! 😁🤩 Bye! 👋
I'd like to add for Rise Mikey Unfortunately the reason why he doesn't get as much screen time and moments is because if you look at a lot of the cut episodes that were supposed to be in season 2 a lot of them were Mikey focused :[ So he would of gotten more but never had the chance Also with Cassandra and Karai it's the same thing Karai was originally going to stick around for like 10 episodes in the original later half of season 2 (with her being introduced in an episode called the key) I know what we got is what we got but it's really upsetting to know the writers just didn't have the chance to go as in depth as they wanted and these characters suffered for it Another thing that suffered was Leo becoming leader it was going to be a gradual built up with Leo at the end of season 2 being a co-leader with Raph
@@Nova-gh5yr How ironic, that the TMNT series with the most untapped potential is called “Rise of the TMNT”. I say we hold a peaceful protest to boycott Viacom.
The turtles supposedly have those moving eyebrow muscles below it but just not having legit eyebrows 😂 I don’t know how to phrase it better But if sometimes you notice the rise of TMNT in episodes where they take off the bandana you can see it.
Yes please thank you, any attention brought to Rise fills my soul with hope, it’s the one tmnt show that could still be saved from a tragic end. I’m a brand new tmnt fan because of it and I owe it so much. I never grew up with any tmnt besides my older cousins talking about 2012 sometimes (RIP to anyone else that can relate to not having cable) but honestly after all of the rankings I need to go back and give 2012 the attention and love it deserves!
The sad thing is is that rise fans are almost “paying back” 2012 fans for hating on rise back then. 2012 has been getting a shit ton of hate on Twitter, mostly from rise fans I’ve seen. While I know it’s Twitter and Twitter is shit, it’s getting wayyyy too much hate purely out of spite. Both 2012 and rise deserve all the love.
@@shanecorcoran2542 No rise deserves the hate because their characters suck and why the rise fandom is hypocritical, besides literally no ninja turtles fan loves rise
I will never forgive Nickelodeon for how they treated Rise. I'm a little biased, having only seen the Rise series, but this is what got me into TMNT - it's my favorite version by far!! I'm sad that I didn't find it until this year :(
If I were to rate every Turtle series in different categories it would be. 1987: Most Nostalgic. Didn't actually grow up with it but it paved the way for the series to come and for that it deserves nothing but respect. If it failed there would be no other series. 2003: Best stories. The 2003 series juggled multiple stories and handled them all pretty well not saying the other series didn't have good stories but 2003 had had the best lore, world building and over arching narratives. 2012: Best Characters. This was a close one with Rise but 2012 had some of the best characters as a hole in the franchise. From Splinter to Shredder. Rise: Best animation. The animation in rise is god tier. Seriously it could challenge some shounen anime.
Personally, I have no trouble saying Rise of the TMNT's has better animation than nearly any other shounen anime I have ever seen (besides being better at almost everything it's trying to achieve than any of them, but I don't think most people are ready to recognize that most anime has terrible pacing and so many awful writing conventions). That's just my personal opinion, though.
It doesn't matter how good the animation is when the designs are that bad. You kids didn't grow up in the 80s or 90s but it was impossible to escape all the merchandise of the cartoon because of how good those designs were. Comics even brought them back this year because that's the stuff that sells just like the 90s movie merchandise. The designs of Rise don't have that same grab. Most wouldn't even know that those are supposed to be the turtles similar to how the reboot Michael Bay designs are disliked.
@@mendlests it did, they just didnt have time to actually flesh any of the characters alot because of the mass hate cutting the show short, before you say it deserves hate because of no development, it was going through that development, they just got cut short because everyone expected the show to be absolutely perfect from the start rather then giving it an actual chance, the 2012's show early episodes were pretty bad too, but then they got a chance to develop the characters and it became pretty much the most beloved TMNT show, that same thing also kinda applies to the 2003 show, but they were given a chance to develop + both the 2003 and 2012 show had nostalgia to back them up, rise would defo not get that much hate if it was made around the time of the 2012 or 2003 show.
LITERALLY!! Like it has such a creative spin on the series as a whole, and given how insanely popular it is, Netflix gives it a chance and picks up thst season 3
The 2012 series brought back my love for the tmnt. It’s not perfect but it’s still very close to my heart. And yes I was one of the people who shipped April and Donnie but looking back know the show didn’t handle it well nor April’s character. maybe have April humble herself and actually allowed the turtles to help her and follow through with their relationship would of made the series better. But with what we got was still amazing. Rise is a close second haven’t seen the 2nd season yet due to Netflix only having the first season and the movie.
April's character is fine, why this fucking obsession with saying that it's badly written? Why do they say it for God's sake, stop telling lies or it shows that you never saw the one from 2012
Even the team behind TMNT 2012 realized they forgot to fix Mutagen Man by the end. So for the Mad Max style episode where Raph is in sort of a pit fight, they put his lifeless corpse in the bottom of the moat. Not really resolving that plot line, but at least they acknowledged him
rise!kraang had one of the best lines in any show I've seen, "you will serve me whether you live or not" gave me actual chills down my spine, holy shit they were fucking terrifying.
Rise Donnie is by far the greatest incarnation of his character. If he had to fight against any of his other incarnations (wether all or only one of them) I genuinely and absolutely believe he would win. His tech is definitely far more advanced than any other Donatello incarnation we’ve seen. While the other Donatellos either complain about having a “stupid stick” (like how 2012 Donnie did that one episode), instead of making something even more useless or even worse or just plain bitching about it, rise Donnie actually does something not only better but makes himself a weapon that’s far more useful for himself in combat than any other Donatello has ever made. That basically makes him the smartest Donatello incarnation we’ve seen so far.
2012 Donnie always tried to upgrade his staff so he did something about it too just he didn’t do it as well as rise Donnie did it, and I do agree that rise Donnie is the best donnie
Dude a fight between 2003 Don and Rise Don would actually legit be fun to watch cause 03 Don could get SUPER inventive. He isn't the BEST fighter sure, but he can hold his own and uses his wits to win vs brute strength or speed.
Funny thing was I did hate rise at first because I loved the 2012 splinter so much that the rise one actually pissed me off. After a while I remembered that I didn't like 2012 at first either, (thought the animation was too weird) so I gave it a full watch and actually enjoyed it for what it was. 2012 is still my favorite but I love the character switches of Leo and Donnie.
@@Vitrap Yeah. What I like about him above other Splinters is that we are seeing the bit that many skip over; the bit where he overcomes his traumatic past.
I was under the impression as a kid that Nick cancelled 2012 for being “too violent” and that rise was just a teen titans go clone. Obviously neither of those are true, but my god did rise piss me off back in 2018, my heart shattered when 2012 ended and rise definitely did not help lmao
@@Vitrap I think rise itself wasn’t the issue, it was the rumors being spread about how different it was from 2012 that made it bad. I remember it literally being described as “more like TTG” and the first episode being aired EARLY as a sneak peak didn’t help at all, since it was very comedy based
33:40 Actually, the 2012 series showed that the mutagen worked by combining DNA with the last organism the original subject was around before being mutated, and in the mutant apocalypse arc, we see Raph and Mikey grow hair, meaning they have human DNA. This is just the first series were it was explicitly said.
was scared first watching this, as ive never seen any of your content and a lot of rotmnt content is either blatantly bashing on rise or praising it and im glad about the turnout! i didnt hate the show when i first watched it, but i just simply wasnt interested. its easily my second favorite with my first being 2012. love your analysis on each of the characters from all of the series/media and your opinions and placements are respectable! :D
No way you just mixed this awesome movie montage with Live and Learn on 11:22. As a TMNT fan and a Sonic fan I almost passed out, it goes so well together.
Okay theory, Netflix recently released ROTTMNT about a month before the movie released on Netflix but the only released season 1 not season 2. I believe that Netflix is going to release all of season 2 with the episodes that were cut, the voice cast had already finished recording, the storyboards were drawn already and the 15 or so episodes that were cut were pretty much finished when Fuhrer Nick cut them out. I think that Netflix is definitely going to release a season 2 because they A have the budget and time to finish season 2 at least because let’s be honest if Riverdale can have 6 seasons rise can at least get 15 finished episodes and B rise has been consistently trending on pretty much every social media platform since the movie came out and even some time before that, like you name it it’s been trending such as TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, RUclips like it’s clear people want more and if I were Netflix I’d see this as a potential goldmine for opportunity and of course, money. Thank you for coming to my TED talk
Paramount/Viacom and Netflix would be FOOLS if they haven't brought Rise back, or at least, as you said, release season two as it was originally intended to be.
48:58 Truer words have not been said, because hearing the 2012 theme song in adverts prior to the show's premier as a kid, was what made 8 year-old me go from, "Ew dumb turtle show for boys" to "... I think I'll watch this actually" And a decade later, here I am. Still my favourite theme song, too
I always found every other Splinter pretty cool and all, but every Splinter has always been at the height of their game and spiritualism. The only ways to grow they really had was to either teach the turtles something, or die. Having Splinter have a full character arc and growth and not simply be sacrificed on the vehicle of character progressions was so great in Rise. They did a great job in the show of balancing comedy (which is borderline sketchy parenting combined with what's so obviously clinical depression) with him eventually realizing the responsibility he's shirked. He deserves kudos for being realistic; being a single DAD who is a RAT and lives in a SEWER and keeping four kids alive. But he eventually realizes that the bare minimum combined with reliving his glory days isn't enough and rises to the occasion. Favorite Splinter hands down. Most interesting most developed most growth.
18:03 rise Leo actually has a lot of similarities to other iterations: he’s a strategist, always one step ahead, he’s protective, he’s tenacious, he even takes the helm as default leader sometimes. but those are only when raph is either not up to the task or gone completely. with raph being older and the leader Leo doesn’t take things seriously bc he doesn’t have to (there was a whole episode of then brothers relying on raph too much and not taking care of their own problems) which is why when raph is taken by the krang in the movie it really forces him to step up and that’s when we get to see more classic Leo.
I feel like if he were to meet 03 Leo 03 Leo would initially brush him off as reminding him too much of 03 Mikey, but definitely respect him over time. Rise Leo teaches us that Leo in ANY OTHER iteration gives up so much of himself to be the leader. Michelangelo said it best in the 2003 show, Leo being leader allowed the other brothers to be who they are. And no one really stops to think about that. Leo uses humor to cope with a HUGE inferiority complex too in the 2018 show. That could be something he and 03 Leo talk about. Considering 03 Leo used anger and emotional distance to cope with what they had to do to stop shredder in the season 3 finale.
Nice to see the Rise of the TMNT Movie actually get some genuine love. Ive seen a decent number of lists ranking the Rise of the TMNT Movie super low because "Rise Bad" But like.... did you actually watch the movie? Its incredible. Krang One's defeat is peak TMNT and that is a hill I am willing to die on.
Rise I feel like is criminally under appreciated. At first glance it seems like just a comedy trip, and hell of one at that because the show is actually really funny, but it’s so much more. There is so much wonderfully written representation from queer Leo to Donnie being autistic, and even though I was opposed to it at first I LOVE the designs and personality changes to all the characters. It’s very different, but so unique, and it’s honestly just a complete tragedy that rise was ended so early because there was so much more to offer. And the movie? Hell dont get me started. The first scenes got me twitchy and giddy with excitement, because I LOVED how dark they were able to make it. It really puts the stakes so much higher and I love that they had the guts to include blood, a curse, and literal dead bodies of known characters (April, big momma), or signs of dead characters on top of two on screen deaths. And god watching the movie was just gut wrenching because I could tell the team had so much more to tell with rise, and even in such a short time they managed to make Leo’s arc fleshed out and believable even when I know it was supposed to be spaced out. I don’t think I’ll ever forgive Nickelodeon for how they treated rottmnt because it will remain one of my comfort shows for years. Praying for a season 3 or another movie, but sadly not hopeful of it.
Excellent list, I'm glad to see Rise is finally getting the love it deserves from fans. The fact that Bayverse Mikey is on the same rank as the goddamn Next Mutation and that rank's name is just...(chef's kiss)
Makes me wonder what a Turtles Forever sort of crossover would look like if, say, someone or something tried to summon the turtles and their various supporting characters to end up getting combinations of them from many different realities, resulting in only the highest-tier versions of these characters showing up. So, 2003 Leonardo, 80s Michelangelo, Rise Donatello, and 2007 Raphael having to learn and get past eachothers' quirks and differences to face off against the best of Shredders and Krangs.
@@sparta-zh7yk Oh, I watched it!! (I've watched 2003 Tmnt & 2012 Tmnt) and they're pretty awesome!! But the Rise Movie is still my favourite :D Leo's scarifice gets me crying every time haha
love seeing some tmnt love, and ngl i was on the camp of hating rise at first then realizing i didn't have any real argument besides the show just not being what i personally want from the tmnt. i watched like an episode or two and i liked it it was ok, just not what i like from the tmnt but either way it's a shame it didn't get the chance of fully developing and in general the gigantic amount of problems they had to go through in development.
Yo dude I'd really recommend checking out the movie, it really gives you the best of Rise Edit: like if you only watched an episode or two...I love rise, I love it a lot, but the early episodes...decent on rewatch, not that good the first time around. The really good stuff comes later down the line.
@@freshcupofangst and which one later? I also saw rise and guess it's not, or don't tell me you're talking about the final fight with the shredder? since literally the fans of rise hold on to that chapter to say what is a good version when it is the worst version without fooling yourself
@@mendlests mf if you want me to list everything good that came out of Rise, we'd be here for longer than you'd want to be, as you express a clear distaste for the show, and likely only made your comment so that you could shit on it because you're a victim to your nostalgia, which will not allow you to sit down and enjoy a children's show for what it is rather than what it's predecessors were. But if you *really* want me to list some stuff off... The characters are all loveable, fun, distinct from each other, and work really well together. (and believe it or not, they do share quite a few traits with their older counterparts, they're just presented differently) It has a strong sense of humor The action in general, not just the shredder fight, is incredible The show knows when, and more importantly, HOW to get serious It introduces new and interesting concepts to a large yet relatively formulaic franchise, and utilizes these concepts well! They get inventive with the turtle species, character roles, and personalities, while still very much so being a TMNT piece of media! This is more subjective, but personally I LOVE the character designs! They showcase so much without being too on the nose, and are very inspiring as an aspiring artist! Theme song slaps, not the best TMNT theme but still a fun one. Fun new villains! And traumatic renditions of old ones (looking at the movie right now, seriously, why was that rated Y7) Killer voice acting! Seriously, every VA involved did an insane job, and I can practically feel how much fun some of them were having in certain scenes! So. much. fanservice!! If it exists in the TMNT franchise, 8 times out of 10 is it gonna get referenced, but usually in a subtle way as the show doesn't need to rely on them to carry itself. Donnie actually has a personality beyond being the smart purple tech guy. Because of this, he also regularly carries the comedy (not a small feat!! this show is funny AF) And finally, most importantly in my humble opinion, it's brought in new fans. It's brought back old fans. It's bringing people together, united in their love for silly turtle teens. Newcomers are getting into the franchise as a whole because of it, old timers (some of them, sadly not enough) are getting over their biases. I genuinely have not encountered a fandom so full of joy, of love, of just...general positivity and passion? And so many people have come together to share that, in a way I genuinely don't think would've happened had it not been for Rise and Rise SPECIFICALLY. If you keep giving a plant the same chemical filled water, it's going to wither away eventually, slowly, quietly. Rise was what the fandom needed to thrive again, not another reboot with the same structure as all the others, and regardless of your feelings towards the series...that's a beautiful thing, no?
@Lalo Monroy Sanchez I have literally never heard anyone do that. Why are you so obsessed with making sure people can’t be happy a show they enjoy is being recognized
I’d like to say my thoughts on Rise Donatello. 1. His tech prowess is so broken the only way I can describe it is if you took the ‘87 and ‘90’s tech prowess and multiplied it by CRACK (to the power of 5). 2. He is very easily shown to be Autism Representation done SOOO RIGHT. I think the show runners actually made sure that was part of his characterization intentionally. 3. He’s voiced by Josh Brener, who (along with fellow turtle Ben Schwartz) also plays a character in Ducktales 2017. (He plays Mark Beaks, the “Rival” of scientist Gyro Gearloose.) 4. Finally, I just vibe with him on a quantum level. I think he deserves his own Tier. *THE BEST PURPLE BOI TIER.*
This is the best TMNT video ever made. IT SHOULD BE A HERITAGE VIDEO. Based af opinions, hilarious as hell, great editing. You literally had me wheezing and violently shaking. Overall, you nailed it.
The 2007 TMNT movie is the BEST representation of the tension between Leo and Raph how Raph always thinks he deserves to be leader and not Leo but after being humbled realizing the pressure Leo has as the leader of the team
It's great that 2012 Tmnt gets the recognition it deserves! Objectively speaking, it is the best adaptation. Yeah, it's not perfect, but you can see it was made with all the love and respect for the franchise and I LOVE IT.
"Objectively speaking, it is the best adaptation." There's nothing objective about that statement. Personally, I think the 2003 serious is an absolute masterpiece for the first five seasons and does such a great job adapting comic storylines, I really think it is the best adaptation so far.
@@salaciouspancakes I was talking about the story, all the background details, most of the character design, Splinter's backstory, all the training they have and all that Japanese influence they have (their manners, all the food they ate, they even know Japanese) not only ninjutsu but their whole life is a mix between Japan and America. I love how this makes sense and not just because "I saw a ninjutsu book". I'm not saying 2003 is rubbish or anything like that, I'm just talking about the other things that make 2012 a really good release. It is not a copy of the 80s or 03, it has its own sense and personality, they respect their villains as much as possible, and I say it again, there are as many details as watching them breathe and they are not just static in the background. They move even when they are not the center of attention. The first 2 seasons were not good at this because they lacked the budget but as the seasons progressed the details they added became more noticeable. There have been many people talking about how this version mixes very well what its predecessors did and without a doubt, it is the best that has come out so far.
Casey's battle cry, 'goongala,' actually comes from the comics. So does April being a lab assistant. A lot of the 2003 series was about getting back to more of the Mirage Comics roots.
Great video while Rise was very different but it was really good. The Turtles did need a change as there wasn't much comic content to use after 03-07 & the Nickelodeon version. 03-07 is my favorite incarnation of the Turtles. It's still weird to me that the creators hated the 80s Turtles when it made them a stupid amount of money & giants of the comic/comic based world
this was a great retrospective and while i don't remember 2003 all that well, this video was pretty eye opening for how much i missed out when it was still on air
Fast forward and back to the sewers happened because of how dark the show went (insane in the membrane being yanked from airing). The network forced them to overcorrect, but I'm absolutely certain that's not what Laird originally wanted. After fast forward had been running for a while, he paid for the 5th season to be finished out of pocket, as it had been shelved due to the overcorrection, and he had originally planned for THAT to be the final season. The show was still making them money, so they couldn't let it die, but wasn't pulling in numbers like before, which is where back to the sewers came from. By that point it was too late. In conclusion: I don't consider the final two seasons to be canon to 2003.
I only consider them canon because of the amazing ending to BTTS. The wedding episode is one of the best in the show, and I think it at least makes BTTS all worth it. As for FF…yeah it’s very easy to be skipped and has like 8-10/26 good episodes that I’d watch again. If BTTS and FF were just one conjoined season with the BTTS half being only 13 episodes, I think everyone would like it a lot more.
This was an extremely good video, thank you for your honesty on all of it. So nice to see such well written information being presented, especially from someone who has SEEN Rise of the TMNT. All I ever hear is hate for the show from people who hadn't given it a chance. It needs more, so so much. Thank you again for such a good video~
i feel like i'm lucky to say that 2012 tmnt was my first experience with the franchise. it was right around my tweens, and it was a huge part of my elementary school memories. banger show, mikey was my favorite and even going and rewatching it at nearly 21 it still goes just as hard
41:28 Ngl I would like for another go at the idea that Shredder being a force of nature similar to Calamity Ganon from Botw. It’s such a cool idea that Rottmnt tried to do but couldn’t due to time. Genuinely hope that comes back as a concept for future official tmnt projects.
Awesome video! had me giggling and kicking my feet as a Rise fan, just wanted to clear up the headache abt their mystic powers real quick- (there’s a tdlr at the end) The reason their powers’ origin seems to flip flop around so much is actually cause although there’s Hamato ninpo, Draxum inventions, mystic powers, they actually all come from or have evolved alongside the kraang. Which probably is why he’s able to scream at them and do some magic thievery thingy. Imagine on a family tree at the very top, there’s the kraang. They gave Oroku Saki his armor, and in the last episode it’s revealed that their extraterrestrial nature gave birth to all yokai mystic powers through Empyrean. (fun fact; empyrean in some religions is also the highest form of heaven!) You can even see the weird alien vines Draxum fights with show up growing inside Shredder’s suit at one point. The origins of Hamato ninpo are unknown, but it’s probably somewhat compatible with/ adaptable to kraang powers, cause what else would they want with Oroku Saki’s soul? Karai said her father’s soul was corrupted in return for the armor, and Hamato ninpo is very spiritual as opposed to genetic, since we see April inheriting it from the soul of Karai instead of dna. After the histories of these two magic systems were so intertwined for so long, i’m not surprised that the turtles, who are literally half Hamato, half mystic, can use these powers in a way pretty much interlocking with each other. TLDR; Kraang ➡️ Shredder armor & ➡️ yokai ➡️ teetlez Hamato ninpo ➡️ Karai ➡️➡️➡️ also teetlez the turtles can use all magic power sets in a stitched-together chimera way cause genetically they are stitched-together chimera magicians who look rly goddamn cool
holy shit this commentary is GOLDEN like many others, rise is what got me into this franchise (i casually watched the 2012 rendition when it was still running but i wasn't _into it_ into it back then) so this was a good way for me to be pretty much filled in so i can say i'm mostly up to speed
was absolutely loving this video but those rottmnt clips with sonic music playing at 11:20?? Shit got me unbelievably hyped you aint even know man binged this entire video the moment it showed up on the reccomend
seeing all the praise and interest for ROTTMNT makes me feel so warm. i didn't grow up with tmnt, and the first one i saw was the 2012 one. surprisingly i didnt like it enough to continue watching it though (i feel like april was one of the biggest reasons honestly). so if i knew about 2018 when it came out, i probably wouldn't have judged it at all. but because nickelodeon fucked it over so badly, i literally didn't know it existed until the movie came out. i love 2012 now growing up, but something about the characters and how they interact with each other in rise made me love it the most. at some point i need to watch the other versions as well, and i hope people dont give mutant mayhem the same treatment that rise got. please, actually give it a chance instead of shouting at it with your nostalgia glasses on.
I love it how whenever I see these review videos there's barely ANY exception to Rise Donnie being rated best/2nd best Donnie BECAUSE HE IS A KING and we all know it! Like not only is it hilariously and WILDLY entertaining to see other TMNT fans absolutely PRAISING this madlad but it does genuinely makes me happy. Like if we can't agree Rise Donnie is the superior Donnie then what can we?
Recently, I’ve seen the first season of 2012, most of the rise series, the rise movie, the 2007 movie, and the 90s movies. When I was younger, my mom played me the 80s show and apparently the 2003 show because that intro hit SOMETHING in the back of my memory box.
Genuinely glad that the tmnt 2007 video was randomly in my recommendation cause I found a new channel to binge watch a ton of videos. Honestly awesome work, I haven’t been in a tmnt mood in a while and I’m glad that this and your tmnt 2007 video reminded why I love tmnt.
Can we just appreciate that 1987 kraang sounds like an old grandpa (Update) YOURE TELLING ME MY FAVORITE SERIES OF THE FRANCHISE COULD’VE HAD 3-7 SEASONS BUT WAS RESTRICTED TO 1.5 WHY WAS THE COMMUNITY SO HIGH IN 2018-2020
Honestly, one of my favourite things about rise is that Donnie is canonically confirmed to be autistic (One of the creators said so on Twitter). Unfortunately, a lot of autistic characters are either treated like innocent children that are utterly incapable of doing anything on their own or as emotionless psychopaths that are complete assholes BECAUSE of their autism. As a young autistic person (or an NPC as this video called me lol) seeing only those kinds of characters kinda fucks with you a bit mentally. I've definitely had thoughts like "what if I can't ever succeed in life because of my autism?" partially because of this. It just sucks that the only confirmed character are either "UwU smol bean must protect" or absolute cunts that could be replaced with robots. Rise Donnie is such a breath of fresh air for me and a lot of other autistic people I've seen talk about the show. Sure he's more emotionally distant than his brothers but the writers made it a point to show he's not emotionless. He really truly cares for his brothers, he just shows that a bit differently and I love that about him. He also shows a lot of other autistic traits throughout the show including stimming, lack of volume control, sensory issues and more. I relate to him a lot personally and he's just a really great character that's treated as just as important as his other brothers. Anyway sorry for the long comment and the half-vent lmao. TLDR: I love this autistic purple turtle cause he's written like an actual person and not a harmful stereotype :)
Yeah I can see that, though personally as an Aspie he kinda makes me feel weird. This more has to due with our culture as a whole, then just Donnie, but I hate the idea that autists are lack empathy or are emotionally distanced, mainly because autistic people are fully capable of showing empathy but it's more an issue of understanding. When Neurodivergents fail to understand the emotions of Neurotypicals, it's seen as a "lack of empathy", yet if a Neurotypical fails to understand the emotions of a Neurodivergent "it's the Neurodivergent's fault". The truth is Neurotyipcals lack empathy for Neurodivergents, it's called the double empathy problem. Autists are just as able to show empathy to other autistics as much Neurotyipcals do to other Neurotyipcals. I feel that rise's Donnie fails to understand that, but honestly most people are ignorant so I'm not angry, but disappointed. I kinda wish Donnie was able to meet an other autist he chould really connect to.
I’ve seen a few head canons on how rises power works but I think the one I most agree with is it’s tied with their emotions hence why donnie didn’t discover his power till late, at first they are barely emotionally attached with their father aka the only hamato family member they know but by season 2 they get a stronger bond with their father thats why they suddenly have that power stronger then ever. It’s all tied with their bond with eachother it’s their strongest asset. But that’s just a theory- A FILM THEOR-
that is the reason why rise is garbage, they depend more on their powers than their abilities, this video is wrong and full of lies whoever uploaded this is an idiot who apart from not knowing anything about the franchise praises a mediocre product like its fans why yes, fans of rise or loco will never be part of the tmnt community
@@mendlests I’d like to direct you to the episode where they literally BODY a whole GANG of villains… with FISH AND LADDERS… and when they stop using there powers in one of the season finale episodes clearly you have NEVER even GLANCED at rise. They don’t depend on their powers. If anything their powers show how emotionally attached they are to eachother, how they work together, their dynamic, everything.
@@MxkoTsunxmi If, as you say, it was a single damn occasion, I mean that they never trained from these and only depend on that empty argument of "the power of the family" aside, curious since the one who makes this video nuch He didn't see the series well for you to say
@@MxkoTsunxmi I mean, just one occasion, apart from literally when they had to face the krang they didn't have a damn plan, it's more when April stole those blue capsules where they literally had the weakness of those krang, easily donnie de rise could devise a whole formula to defeat them but do they? Nope
@@MxkoTsunxmi Besides, be honest, the risers literally never train, and before you tell me, the chapter where Splinter teaches them about stealth is not the same as others who show themselves understanding that movement. Besides, their powers do not have consistency since before they could with shredder thanks to the ninpo but when they face hypnopotamo or the foot clan they cannot with them, how is it possible? I mean they are supposed to handle them but in the movie they don't do anything to it, I put aside why they literally didn't use the same movement that karia "taught" them that was supposed to force them to use again that power again?
i would absolutely fight you on why 2012 donnie is probably one of the most complex & best characters in the show BUT. i respect your opinion king! S tier video 🔥
Could you imagine if they showed Rise Of The TMNT Moive in theaters? That would have been glorious! Not only would we get a 2D animated film in theaters again that isn't anime, but I feel like if this was shown in theaters and if it did well, we may have seen more 2D movies on the silver screen!
Actually, I think Michael Bay writing in that article he turtles were April’s childhood pets and She named them was a brilliant idea. It makes sense as to why she has such a close relationship with them.
Love the honesty in the intro. JaxBlade's video was really good, though, and I think inspiration should be taken. I like seeing how people rank things and why they like or don't like them.
I was watching this on my tv before school, HAD to switch to my phone so i could show my friends the eyebrow-less donnie jumpscare a few hours later 💀 theyre so done with me lolol (i have brainrot and have been obsessed with tmnt for eight months)
TMNT 2012 is the best - the choreography - the storytelling - the designs - the visuals - the characters - the humor - the action - the shredder fight - the animation Easily the best version of the TMNT to date.
I highly prefer the version of splints backstory where he IS Hamato Yoshi who got mutated into a rat rather then him being a rat who got mutated into a humanoid, Hamato Yoshi BEING Splinter is much more understandable as to why/how he is such a powerful Ninja as he was already a ninja master before being mutated rather than a rat who became a ninja master Also a thug about 2012 Kraang is that the Kraang were originally all Utrom but one Utrom (the original Kraang) became an evil dictator and corrupted 90% of the Utrom turning them into Kraang and the Kraang took over Dimension X and how there is a constant war between the Kraang and the remainder of the Utrom, this backstory is mainly told to use in season 4 and actually gives a good backstory, when the original Kraang gets defeated the remaining Kraangs eventually become Utrom again
Now I know why I liked tmnt 2012 so much. The plot was important sure but its the characters themselves that I was invested in. Som all that emotional investment got me hooked.
I couldn’t agree more about Rise Leo being the BEST version of Leo! He has SO MUCH to his character in the series that it makes the others look pretty bland in comparison! (No offense other Leos! I love you all, too! 💙)
This video is honestly just as good as JaxBlade’s video, love all the analysis and I agree with you on almost everything. 2012 is my favorite cartoon of all time, taking in all of its flaws I adore almost everything about it. I can’t defend the shitty love triangle but I will say I think people over-exaggerate it a little bit, as it’s pretty much over after early season 3. And as for the leo and karai thing, its fine with me except after season 2 when they kept doing hints to it for purely fanservice, I agree with you there. 2003 is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite cartoon and I’m SO HAPPY I caught it on nicktoons when they aired it in 2014-15. It has so many unforgivable moments for me that are just so fucking cool (the foot mystics are some of the coolest fucking things I’ve ever seen they go so hard it’s insane). I sadly don’t have too much to say on 87 or rise, since 87 really isn’t for me and I don’t really have an interest to watch it, but I should probably watch rise. Everyone is sucking its dick now for good reason, and I was also one of those assholes who HATED it when it first came out. But now, I’d give it a chance. Cant agree more on the 1990 movie, it’s my favorite movie ever made. The tone, nostalgia, and characterization is incredible. Music slaps too. Thanks for the great watch man, got me through a boring ass class in school.
How do they continue with this love triangle thing, I mean, it shows that they didn't see it to know that it already happened and it didn't affect the series at all, if it were, they would have made some discussion to the team but they don't? Nope
The Studio that animated the series are called Flying Bark studios. If you want to watch more of their work check out Lego Monkie kid it's beautifully animated and has better animation than rise and I think a better all around fleshed out story.
I think it’s important to note the Utrom from 2003 is more or less the comic version, the whole Kraang and Dimension X stuff was a creation purely of the 87 series (same with April being a reporter, her working for Stockman was pulled straight from the comics). Utrom Shredder however is an original creation of the show, and in my opinion is best Shredder even when bringing comics into the discussion

I'M LITERALLY STILL LAUGHING AT THAT PART AND IT'S BEEN A GOOD 5 MINUTES
I am still endlessly angry at myself and Nickelodeon. For one, I didn’t watch the show till this august, but the reason was because I quite literally didn’t know it existed till the movie was hyped up. It’s not even fair, considering how awesome the show and movie is. I think it shines the most with the characters personalities and how they are written, and the absolutely gorgeous art style. I really do hope I get s3, because I cannot get enough of those silly turtles man. I grew up with 2012, and I was so surprised this became my favorite tmnt adaptation out of all the ones I’ve watched, but no regrets!
I love how everyone can tell it was Rise. You didn’t even need to mention it
Man, absolutely same here. F!CK YES! 🥳
This series scratched that exact spot for me what the 2012 one didn't and I'm so thankful I gave a chance for this!
I'm praying with you that they'll eventually get a new season but until then, I can at least tell you the name of this fan made, hand drawn RUclips series: cass apocalypse au (it has a happy ending). If you want a whole story on the future turtles and Casey then I strongly recommend you to take a look at least, you won't regret it! 😁🤩
Bye! 👋
I'd like to add for Rise Mikey
Unfortunately the reason why he doesn't get as much screen time and moments is because if you look at a lot of the cut episodes that were supposed to be in season 2 a lot of them were Mikey focused :[
So he would of gotten more but never had the chance
Also with Cassandra and Karai it's the same thing
Karai was originally going to stick around for like 10 episodes in the original later half of season 2 (with her being introduced in an episode called the key)
I know what we got is what we got but it's really upsetting to know the writers just didn't have the chance to go as in depth as they wanted and these characters suffered for it
Another thing that suffered was Leo becoming leader it was going to be a gradual built up with Leo at the end of season 2 being a co-leader with Raph
it's sad how this show got cut so short.

Don’t change a thing from this, this is as factual as it comes lmao It’s hard to say this isn’t accurate.
Splinter was the best Splinter ever in 2012.
@@20000dino
Rise is horribly written for you to say that (that's why everyone dislikes you know)
It doesn't matter how good the animation is when the designs are that bad.
If Rise gets another season or 2 to flesh out the characters a bit more, then it would be the best piece of tmnt fiction in my opinion.
Better than the one from 2012 and 2003, I doubt it, apart from that, he never developed any of his characters that would have made rise?
What?
@@Yoboielmo
that rise never had history and development

And a decade later, here I am.
Ive seen a decent number of lists ranking the Rise of the TMNT Movie super low because "Rise Bad"
But like.... did you actually watch the movie?
Blame the hatred
I am shocked by how close your rankings for the movies and tv shows are to mine! Also love the respect for Rise!
1987 Krang had the quote in the lotus episode tho, "I may be evil, but I'm an equal opportunist."
Excellent list, I'm glad to see Rise is finally getting the love it deserves from fans.
The fact that Bayverse Mikey is on the same rank as the goddamn Next Mutation and that rank's name is just...(chef's kiss)

I need a whole AMV of this

April: i really dont have anything to offer you, except for frozen pizza...
Mikey: * RISES FROM THE UNDERWORLD*
there were actually a couple clues that she was this rises casey, I dont remember most of them, but I remember that she had hockey posters in her room
Also her being referred to as Grandma CJ when it came to the brownies episode.
I need more of Rise of the TMNT too, omg this show is fire guys

love seeing some tmnt love, and ngl i was on the camp of hating rise at first then realizing i didn't have any real argument besides the show just not being what i personally want from the tmnt.
i watched like an episode or two and i liked it it was ok, just not what i like from the tmnt but either way it's a shame it didn't get the chance of fully developing and in general the gigantic amount of problems they had to go through in development.
You should watch the movie
Yo dude I'd really recommend checking out the movie, it really gives you the best of Rise
Edit: like if you only watched an episode or two...I love rise, I love it a lot, but the early episodes...decent on rewatch, not that good the first time around. The really good stuff comes later down the line.
@@freshcupofangst
and which one later?
(and believe it or not, they do share quite a few traits with their older counterparts, they're just presented differently)
It has a strong sense of humor
The action in general, not just the shredder fight, is incredible
The show knows when, and more importantly, HOW to get serious
It introduces new and interesting concepts to a large yet relatively formulaic franchise, and utilizes these concepts well!
And traumatic renditions of old ones (looking at the movie right now, seriously, why was that rated Y7)
Killer voice acting!
Because of this, he also regularly carries the comedy (not a small feat!! this show is funny AF)
And finally, most importantly in my humble opinion, it's brought in new fans.
@Lalo Monroy Sanchez
I have literally never heard anyone do that.
(He plays Mark Beaks, the “Rival” of scientist Gyro Gearloose.)
4. Finally, I just vibe with him on a quantum level.
I think he deserves his own Tier. *THE BEST PURPLE BOI TIER.*
tysm for talking bout rottmnt 😭we need more people to support it and we might get more episodes
Totally love your TMNT content!!! I love watching them, they’re really fun and informative! Keep up the great work!!! 😄
You know you can still watch it on RUclips. If you want to watch it, just search "tmnt 2003" and you'll find the playlist. Hope you enjoy! 😉
You should watch it's great
Fast forward and back to the sewers happened because of how dark the show went (insane in the membrane being yanked from airing).
Eastman and Laird selling the rights, hardly can complain!
If you like 2012s splinters origin then you will LOVE the IDW comic’s version!! It’s amazing-
“But in his super form his one weakness is faulty lumber!”
“I-it’s FUCKING GENIUS!”
Awesome video! had me giggling and kicking my feet as a Rise fan, just wanted to clear up the headache abt their mystic powers real quick- (there’s a tdlr at the end)
The reason their powers’ origin seems to flip flop around so much is actually cause although there’s Hamato ninpo, Draxum inventions, mystic powers, they actually all come from or have evolved alongside the kraang.
TLDR;
Kraang ➡️ Shredder armor & ➡️ yokai ➡️ teetlez
Hamato ninpo ➡️ Karai ➡️➡️➡️ also teetlez
the turtles can use all magic power sets in a stitched-together chimera way cause genetically they are stitched-together chimera magicians who look rly goddamn cool
holy shit this commentary is GOLDEN

Fun fact rise Donnie doesn't actually have eyebrows but he just drew them on
I’m so glad the entire tmnt fandom(Or at least most of the Rise fandom)agrees that Rise Donnie(And maybe April)is the best version of any Donnie
seeing all the praise and interest for ROTTMNT makes me feel so warm. i didn't grow up with tmnt, and the first one i saw was the 2012 one. surprisingly i didnt like it enough to continue watching it though (i feel like april was one of the biggest reasons honestly). so if i knew about 2018 when it came out, i probably wouldn't have judged it at all. but because nickelodeon fucked it over so badly, i literally didn't know it existed until the movie came out. i love 2012 now growing up, but something about the characters and how they interact with each other in rise made me love it the most. at some point i need to watch the other versions as well, and i hope people dont give mutant mayhem the same treatment that rise got. please, actually give it a chance instead of shouting at it with your nostalgia glasses on.

You: picture Donnie in your head
Me: *pictures Rise Donnie*
@@MxkoTsunxmi
Besides, be honest, the risers literally never train, and before you tell me, the chapter where Splinter teaches them about stealth is not the same as others who show themselves understanding that movement.

TMNT 2012 is the best
- the choreography
- the storytelling
- the designs
- the visuals
- the characters
- the humor
- the action
- the shredder fight
- the animation
Easily the best version of the TMNT to date.
Rise out does 2012's animation tbh. Still some of the better cgi animation out there though. that tiger claw fight scene in the meat seller goes hard.
@@kermitgotthesickkicks4265 the animation is what made the fight scenes so good.

I highly prefer the version of splints backstory where he IS Hamato Yoshi who got mutated into a rat rather then him being a rat who got mutated into a humanoid, Hamato Yoshi BEING Splinter is much more understandable as to why/how he is such a powerful Ninja as he was already a ninja master before being mutated rather than a rat who became a ninja master
Also a thug about 2012 Kraang is that the Kraang were originally all Utrom but one Utrom (the original Kraang) became an evil dictator and corrupted 90% of the Utrom turning them into Kraang and the Kraang took over Dimension X and how there is a constant war between the Kraang and the remainder of the Utrom, this backstory is mainly told to use in season 4 and actually gives a good backstory, when the original Kraang gets defeated the remaining Kraangs eventually become Utrom again
I just discovered your channel today and binged a lot of your vids, and you uploaded the same day?!?! LAS GOO!
I could not agree more with your take on Rise tmnt!!!!!!! Rise Leo is my fav and that dang show is severely underrated and needs more
I watched about 13 minutes into the video and said “yea the video is probably about to end” then i saw the run time and went to make some popcorn
18:26 BRO WTF I LOVE THIS SO MUCH LMAOFNKSN “HE DIDNT COME OUT OF THE CLOSET, HE BROKE IT OFF ITS HINGES AND IT TOOK IT WITH HIM-“
This video is honestly just as good as JaxBlade’s video, love all the analysis and I agree with you on almost everything.
Nope

Imagine if they did an animated movie for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, what's your thoughts on that idea.
Believe it or not, Venus is now in the IDW comics
11:23 rise with sa2 ost is something i never knew i needed
Rise Shredder looks like if Disney tried to draw Michael Bay TransFomers 2007 Megatron but they had to mix in General Grievous
I like to think of Rise of TMNT as TMNT as animated by studio Gainax/Trigger. So many gems from the studio I could gush for hours.
The Studio that animated the series are called Flying Bark studios. If you want to watch more of their work check out Lego Monkie kid it's beautifully animated and has better animation than rise and I think a better all around fleshed out story.
You said nice things about rise
so my sheep brain will like you and this video
I think it’s important to note the Utrom from 2003 is more or less the comic version, the whole Kraang and Dimension X stuff was a creation purely of the 87 series (same with April being a reporter, her working for Stockman was pulled straight from the comics). Utrom Shredder however is an original creation of the show, and in my opinion is best Shredder even when bringing comics into the discussion
