This is a really great deep dive and you actually spent a good amount of time talking about each era of the franchise. I can't stand it when other people upload a 15-20 minute video breezing through it all and calling it a "deep dive" lol. You did the franchise justice with this. Probably one of the best TMNT deep dives I've seen so far. Well done. 💙❤💜🧡
Great video. Glad to see new Channels creating such a great content. As a kid growing up in Poland TMNT was my first contact with superheroes. I had comics, figures and I watched animated show on TV. Also I would ask my parents to rent a VHS many times to watch all the movies.
Hey , thanks very much for the comment and I really do appreciate it , it's nice to receive feedback , I was the same in my youth I wore out my VHS tapes
Believe it or not, the 1987 series was meant to go beyond Season 10, but it was cancelled, due to the new stipulation that Saturday Morning Cartoons on CBS had to be educational. Presumably, the cancellation happened before the series finale, hence the Turtles trapping Lord Dregg into Dimension X, and Splinter graduating them.
To think, the concept of a popular cartoon that I would experience first hand in my early childhood, was started all the way back just before I was born and it would take a few years before I would see the Cartoon that would catch my attention and be the first introduction to anything remotely Japanese, such as the concept of Ninjas being heroes.
My god I have been looking for a retrospective of TMNT for a while I don't mean a we 20 minute video a proper deep dive, I've be been on TMNT train every sence I got shedders revenge for free. In short thank you.
7:40 Once again, Truck-kun played a role in the development of our main Protagonists. This time, causing the accident that would lead to the Ooze that went on to mutate the ordinary Pet Turtles into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Mutant Mayhem was the best film after part 1 and 2 imo. I liked the (Teenage) turtles not instantly being huge super buff adult looking super heroes. The TMNT never acted like kids before. They never looked like kids either.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles was the cartoon series of my childhood. I still say it's the greatest kids show ever made. I would love to watch it all from start to finish, but I'm kind of terrified it won't hold up to how I remember it. My favourite episode I can remember, because I had it on video, was the pizza monsters that escape into the sewers. I did and still could watch that episode a hundred times and never get bored.
I'm curious: What was it like watching the show with nunchucks banned in the UK? Did Michaelangelo get cut out of a lot of the show? Did you somehow "know" there were a lot of weird cuts as a kid? How were the video games handled if you played them?
@@Davethe3rd as a kid I had no idea it was censored , or that it was called ninja turtles outside the UK , although I remember seeing aversion of the movie recorded off satellite TV with nun chucks , and then later I bought the VHS and it was edited out , Later in life I bought the 87cartoon on dvd and straight away I noticed , the word ninja instead of hero in the titles and clips of mikey that I hadn't seen in the intro before
My introduction to the turtles was q black and white comic where the foot was chasing the turtles and splinter through a snowly wilderness. All the turtles used swords and shredder was in full traditional samurai armor. They had a pitched battle in a clearing and killed many of the foot until one of the turtles lost a hand. It was pretty graphic. I think in todays world, a version of those turtles on screen would be rather well received.

Yeah, as someone that’s a big fan of both DC comics and teenage mutant ninja Turtles I really did love the Batman versus ninja turtles movie. I have a hardcopy of it as well as a digital copy. I read the comics too and I know that it is really different in some areas but I’m OK with that. And honestly, I really do love the idea of the turtle being in the DC universe. That’s something I’ve secretly always wanted anyway.
How are you gonna make a whole segment about the actors in the 1990 movie and not mention Corey Feldman? He was perfect for Donnie and the scene where he and Casey are fixing the truck was great.
@@popculturepedestal I actually still have my old Mutating Raph toy on my desk, the ones where you could transform them from a little pet turtle into the classic toy lol

This also cancelled Garfield and Friends, which was a ratings hit, but they refused to accept the budget cuts forced on them by CBS.

Great breakdown. The new April direction is baffling
But you should add a section to Ronin and the new game

I must be the only person who likes the way the Bay Turtles look.
TMNT 2 out of the shadows is a crappy move, but 10 minute fight scene in airplane is something that completely redeem its existence.

Personally i prefer the 1987 version of Splinters backstory, it makes more sense that he was hamato yoshi himself due how the ooze mutation works.
I absolutely agree 100 percent
I'm the opposite, I prefer Splinter and Hamato Yoshi being seperate characters.
