I will always have a special place in my heart for these boys. The 2003 Turtles balanced humor and dark tones extremely well, and Leo's depression arc is pretty iconic. And I love moments that focused on each brother in solo episodes, so you could peel back layers of their personalities. Donatello will always be my favorite cause I relate to him the most being the shy even tempered one of the bunch.
I started giving short watches of 2012 and it was at so many times so quiet, the voice acting was just passable but still flat in comparison, and the animation looks so awkward like a fan made blender 3d animation. 2003 had crisp animation, had perfect pacing, and kept something audible during moments no one talks. Then of course like you said the tone was perfectly balanced. The exact same thing goes for Teen Titans with tone, animation, action, audio, and voice acting. I think what anime brought into animations in the 90s early 2ks it really raised the bar on the standard of an animation. Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Yugioh, etc. easily influenced American animation and for the better. Eventually that influence just fell off and companies figured "we gotta change" and strayed from the high standards of Japanese animation.
@@Vendetta162X Ooof, I was born in 1990 and I think the best TMNT representation is easily the 2012, 2003 is second place but a close one, 2012 started slow but give it a chance the entirety of the series was amazing and the Splinter is by far my favorite Splinter or even Wise Mentor character in any IP. I agree the animation sucks compared to the 2003 series but I managed to get past it cuz I had a kid so it was on a lot and I eventually started watching it. None of my friends had kids nor a love for TMNT but I got them obsessed with it, lots of episodes are homages to popular movies like "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Aliens" for example. Unfortunately it was followed up by the worst TMNT next to Micheal Bays movies. lol but please, give it a chance, even if it's just in the background if you liked 2003 I know you'll like it after it starts to pick up.
I really hate that companies and stores act like the 2003 show never happened. You can't even find a basic T-shirt for them without buying it online. Almost 20 years later and there's 0 merch. Nasty work. It also upset when the 2012 bypassed the '03 boys just to work with the '87 turtles. The '03 Turtles get treated like they're the next mutation show.
I remember when at the time the merchandies was everywhere, I had a pencil case and i still have the 2005 TMNT wallet! But yeah, after that legendary era nothing new came out... But just this year PlayMates put out a reissue of the original TMNT 2003 toys (just the 4 basic turtles) and Super 7 apparently confirmed they're going to make them too! It's been officially 20 years from the series, so now might finally be the time the 2003 turtles get the recognition they deserve!
A year later and FINALLY some good news on this front! Playmates is reissuing the 2003 figures, the full series is getting released as an all-in-one box set, and Super7 is doing all 4 Turtles as part of their Ultimates! line.
2003 had the best donnie: very smart, but NOT a nerd by any stretch, he was physically as big as his bros and could kick as much ass without going into techno martial arts every single time.
A fantastic retrospective. It's always nice to see other passionate fans of this series. It's truly a shame how incredibly difficult it's been to watch this series [legally] on one's own over the last 20 years, let alone the expensive process of acquiring the entire series on DVD. Not to mention the atrocious Turtles Forever DVD release by Viacom. My heart breaks hearing from Emilio Lopez about the production and Viacom acquisition. I'm sure many of us would have loved to see an Uncut Blu-ray hit the shelves. From TMNT 2003 fans everywhere, thank you for your help in keeping this series relevant! I can only hope that the fanbase of this series continues to grow in spite of the shadow that it currently lives in.
I really miss the 03 turtles. They barely get any attention even when they have imo the best characterization of each character and their new characters are badass. The only time where I saw some resemblence was in the batman vs tmnt movie and a webcomic called mutant ninja turtles gaiden. Also it is really ironic that the darkest incarnation of the turtles was broadcasted in the company called 4Kids.
That's cause 4kids wasn't solely on charge of it. It was a American show with two other parties included. Meaning 4kids weren't alone to just alter the show how they like
2003 and 2012 tmnt were easily the best representation of the turtles on screen. Bar none. To me its always been between those two shoes. However I still respect the 1987 show for it did for the franchise and putting it on the map and setting up the tropes that 2k3 and 2k12 perfected.
YES I can finally watch all this masterpiece of a review in 1 sitting. Outstanding work man Loved it. As someone who watched TMNT 2003 on FoxBox and collected the figures this took me back & I'd loved hearing your perspective
This will always be my favorite iteration of the turtles. I love everything about it, the story, the artstyle, the voices. I love it so much, its just so timeless.
This is the single best incarnation of TMNT and is the gold standard I hold every other incarnation to. It’s awesome when stuff like Rise manages to stand on the same level of greatness.
I love Michael sinterniklaas as Leonardo in this. He wasn't even supposed to be at the audition, but afterwards Peter Laird wanted him specifically to be Leo.
It's crazy to believe this show is now 20 years old now god I feel old I grew up watching this adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and still my favorite version of these characters now I'm gonna go watch the show again now also so glad the entire series is on Paramount+
I have been re watching the DVDs for the 03 show and it's my favorite adaptation and I'm glad it's not "lost" anymore and it's getting the recognition it deserves
As a huge 2003 fan, this is one of my favorite TMNT analyses of all time. I loved the amount of care and time you put into discussing every nook and cranny, including what was going on with the franchise in general. This retrospective inspired me to give the show a rewatch this year for its 20th anniversary. I'd love to see one for the 2012 show at some point, which has its own intriguing production tidbits to talk about. (such as how the original Season 1 writing team and EPs were fired and replaced with a whole new team for Season 2 onward for reasons that still aren't entirely clear to this day, but played a huge part in polarizing reactions to the later seasons on the Technodrome forum while they were airing)
Oh my LORD. I rewatch this show literally every single year and it never gets old. Reallyyyyyyyyy good retrospective. I really appreciate this kind of work especially since this show is not one of the most popular shows in the world. Makes me really nostalgic how only the real super fans of 2003 TMNT are here and create a community.
Here's an idea, if you're binging the 2003 series you can just watch up to season 5: The Ninja Tribunal and just flat out *skip* Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers (seasons 6 and 7) and go straight to watching Turtles Forever. Believe me, you wouldn't miss anything because nothing from those last two seasons have any meaning nor is there any mentioning in Forever. The movie just continues from whatever they left off from the end of the Ninja Tribunal by "1987" Shredder and Kraang bringing back Ch'rell from his exile. But seriously I have a tremendous soft spot for characters like Cody, Starlee and Serling. I was really hoping for the 2012 series to kinda redo Fast Forward or bring back those lesser known characters in a new fashion but it didn't end up happening. Pretty ironic considering how the 2003 show wanted to distance themselves away from the shows that came before them only for the 2012 series to just fully embrace the campiness of what made them popular in the first place.
I'll feel the same. Also reminds me of Babylon 5, where one can end things on Season 4 and skip the inferior Season 5, except for the series finale "Sleeping in Light", which was actually planned as the Season 4 finale.
I think the only meaningful thing to happen after season 5 and before Turtles Forever was April and Casey getting married at the end of Back to the Sewers.
Holy shit man. So much respect. Can’t imagine the amount of hours you have put into these 2003 retrospectives. You have produced the undisputed best 2003 series content on the entire internet. Thank you
Your TMNT videos about the 2003 show are some of the best i’ve seen on RUclips, here’s to a Cowabunga Collection 2 with the 2003 games console and handheld versions 😊
I'm 44 and I grew up with the 1987 series. I had graduated from college by the time the 2003 series premiered. But, after some adjustment, I grew to enjoy the 2003 series and I think that it is still a great take on the story. Much closer to the comics.
This is the one I grew up with although I have seen the earlier ones thanks to my mother and older brothers. 2003 is honestly THE best version of the Turtles. They all have the moments to shine within the show and nobody feels left out. My own dislike about this version is Fast Forward and Back To the Sweres sections. While I still had fun with them, they weren't the same as the original 4 seasons. Mainly due to the different artstyle, direction, and tune
11:56 I’m so glad you mentioned this because the first time I heard Donnie’s voice (I didn’t grow up watching 2003 TMNT, so I’m watching now) I kept wondering why he sounded so familiar. I played Ace Attorney (nearly done with 6) before starting TMNT, so I recognized Sam Riegal’s voice, but I just couldn’t make the connection beyond recognizing Donnie’s voice from somewhere else!
i've never been so successfully targeted by an ad, this was my favorite cartoon growing up and it's the one i always recommend to people who've never seen a ninja turtles cartoon
I hate how that company wanted to make the show more kiddy during Fast Forward. I remember as a kid i skipped that season because i loved the veiled darkness that the show had to begin with. Watching this is really nostalgic 🙏
I like to think that when Splinter speaks to the ancient one and says “Utrom Shredder” it is a story being told from Splinters perspective and they say Utrom Shredder just to avoid confusion for the Audience being us fans and the Turtles in the episode
I love the 2003 series. I can't believe its's been exactly 21 years since this show first aired. I grew up with the 2012 series and Rise but still love this series and all its characters. I especially love the darker tone of season 4 and Leo's arc in that season. I'm excited for the new Tales of the Tmnt show coming out soon. Loved the video!
Thank You for taking the time to make this. For literal YEARS I have had the intro theme in my head and I was only ever able to watch a few episodes because my mom didn't allow me and my brother to watch "violent things" as kids even if they were animated and cartoon so I didn't really "grow up" with TMNT like I'm sure most people here did. But I love being able to recapture these small moments of happiness from my childhood as I was always the odd one out liking Transformers, Star Wars, TMNT, Bakugan, Yu-Gi-Oh and other things I wasn't allowed to watch until age 10 or so lol.
I think the TMNT not having the staying power DC and Marvel has is integral to it. The reboots and new interpretations are absolutely necessary to maintaining interest, fostering creativity, and introducing the turtles to a new generation. I fucking LOVE Mutant Mayhem, and I grew up with 2003 and TMNT '07. It's also the first iteration of the turtles where they truly feel like contemporary teenagers and the fact that it's gonna be dated with its humor and slang at some point is actually a really good thing. The Ninja Turtles aren't the zeitgeist superheroes, and that's fine. There's always room for new interpretations.
The 2003 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of my favorite shows growing up from my childhood. I still watch the series on RUclips, and I can do it again every year. Best retrospective ever! 💙💜❤️🧡🐢🐢🐢🐢
As someone who loved the 2003 turtles growing up, I loved this retrospective. If you ever tackle the 2012 turtles, I'd love to experience that for the first time with your insight
as someone in their mid 20s this is my favorite show of all time and it's not close. I've watched the first 5 seasons 20 times minimum over the years and they always bring me joy. This video was a masterpiece great work
I didnt think I'd watch this in one go, but man, I love a good retrospective! I only ever known 03 turtles and now ROTTMNT turtles! This was awesome, I feel like I learned so much lore and I've gained a new respect for not only the franchise, but specifically all the ideas and characters that the 03 turtles brought to life :)
Growing up, I remember owning VHS tapes for City at War, and Worlds Collide. They were pretty much identical to how you described them on DVD. I remember liking the Rogue in the House arc alot as a kid, but I guess that was probably because I couldn't have known about how annoyingly repetitive the "Shredder returns again" plot line was just from the content I owned alone.
This is awesome. I have rewatched the individual retrospective several times and now this! Thank you, J, I love listening to your retrospectives while doing other things.
I really enjoyed watching through your retrospective. I only vaguely remember the 87 TMNT series, but I really had fun watching the live action movies, even the third one. The 2k3 series is so far the only TMNT series that I saw from start to finish. It was so great. The characters were great, the writing was solid, the storylines were engaging and the action was well done. This version of the Shredder is by far my favorite one too. His voice just make him feel like such a huge threat. I know that the last two seasons weren't as well received, but I do wonder if Fast Forward would have been better if they did give it a second season to wrap up the plot points they had established. Back to the Sewers wasn't as good as the earlier seasons, but I do remember really liking the series finale. Turtles Forever was a really fun anniversary special, but I can understand the complaints about the 87 Turtles. I still wish that there were proper season DVD releases for this series, but at least it is legally available on Paramount+. I really hope that the 2k3 series gets more attention. I don't have a problem with the 87 series getting attention when it is the most iconic one and put TMNT on the map, but I wish that the 2k3 got more love and attention from both fans and Nickelodeon.
2k3 TMNT will forever be my favourite for a myriad of reasons. But I must mention that this show had the BEST Shredder ever. A smart, calculative, manipulative, megalomaniac, charismatic psychopath. A truly iconic villain.
I never watched this show, only the 2012 one and not completely, but was totally glued to my seat watching this video, learning all of the story was so cool! I would absolutely love to see a retrospective from you about the 2012 show!!! It would be really amazing!!
Definitely the best version of TMNT. I can say this with insurance since I marathon-rewatched all of it last year. It was exactly like in my memories. A true classic cartoon of the 2000’s.
I love your fantastic retrospective video of the 2003 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, because I'm a huge fan of the 2003 series that aired on Fox Box, then 4Kids TV, and The CW4Kids. Nickelodeon still owns the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as owning the rights to the 80's cartoon from Fred Wolf Films and the 2003 TV series from 4Kids Entertainment. - Matthew
2003 TMNT was a big part of my childhood. It was the ps2 games that got me into the bois since the show barely had any airtime back then when i was living in Kuwait. Glad to know that the games' plot were fairly faithful to the show
I just rewatched the series again on Paramount Plus, despite owning most of the show on DVD (I also hate how they have butchered the dvd releases). This retrospective was outstanding, truly remarkable seeing someone dissect the series that I love. The series isn’t perfect, but it’ll always resonate with me as I grew up with it. I think it’s valid to point out how often a reincarnation of the Turtles happens, as it’s mentioned that they dont have any staying power unlike other franchises. Hopefully one day it finds itself exploring dark and mature elements like it did with this series.
I'd like to thank these videos for convincing me to binge the entire show on Paramount Plus and turning it into one of my favorite incarnations of the Turtles.
I’m still in disbelief that this series is almost legal enough to drink. Still though, great analysis! I was 7 years old when it first premiered. However, I didn’t give it watch until three years later with season 2 and boy…. I honestly became obsessed with this series. Aside from Sonic X, the 2K3 series was the only other show on 4Kids I actively watched and followed. It honestly made me into a Turtles fan as a whole. Aside from the 2012 series, the 2K3 series has the best character arcs/drama without a doubt. I remember watching episodes like Same As It Never Was or “Dark Leo” in season 4 for the first time and just cried because I was so emotionally invested in these characters. I’ve never had that experience when watching a cartoon series. The 2K3 series will always hold a special place in my heart (though I can really past on Fast Forward and especially BTTS. I still find season 8 as the most forgettable season in the entire series). Happy 20th anniversary! 💚
I’m finding it again and watching it on Paramount+ because my father sadly passed away when I was 14 in 2004 when I was watch the series he would watch it with me so the 2003 series will always have a place in my heart
I think something that isn't talked about much with the 80s cartoon is that it sometimes felt like it was satirical of other 80s Saturday morning cartoons at the time with its self aware humor and exaggeration of wacky themes, something which I feel is very true to the comics roots being satirical of its respective medium at the time. In that way, I find it to be as true to the spirit of the original comic as 2003 or 2012, even if not as obvious in its presentation. I think that's something about the 80s cartoon I haven't heard many people bring up, so I thought it was something interesting I wanted to share. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this, having grown up on the 1987, 2003, and 2012 shows myself through dvd and vhs allowing me to experience each version, I'm happy to see such a thorough analysis on one of the three major shows I loved. I do look forward to whatever TMNT content you may have in the future, whenever you desire to return to it of course.
I loved this show so much as a kid, easily one of my favorite childhood shows. This video dredged up so many memories and now I feel like I gotta rewatch it
Watching this retrospective as it came out made me a huge fan of the TMNT again ands honestly this retrospective kinda has a place in my heart for that. Was so much fun to watch every week. Personally I'd love to see more Ratchet videos. I know the retrospective wasn't doing the best view-wise. But they're some of my favorite videos of yours
I wish it got a definitive end, this show was soo great and came out swinging!! the first 3 seasons were perfect although season 4 has my favorite episode (scion of the shredder)
Used to watch episodes of the 2003 show on RUclips when I was a kid! To be honest it’s my favorite iteration of the turtles! And I also have Turtles Forever on DVD! Love this retrospective as well! The inclusion of the behind the scenes is also nice as well! Never knew they did voices in a room as a group which I think is brilliant! As it helps give more natural conversation in the show! You my sir have earned a sub!
About season one. So in Russian speaking countries, we would get most seasons dubbed. But season 5 was skipped, probably because it was direct to dvd and people behind dub didn’t know it. There comes cool part. Apparently one girl was big tmnt fan. Then her parents discovered Season 5, so they dubbed whole 5 season for their daughter. While dub or more accurately voice over, was not done by experts. The idea of two parents dubbing whole season for their daughter is one of most wholesome and greatest thing I ever heard.
This is my favorite tmnt interpretation. I've spent good half of my childhood watching it on my DVD. Nostalgia is the perfect word to describe how I feel whenever I see the scenes from it. This is gold.
TMNT 2003 is phenomenal ,the Story was really amazing plus writing. Everything and everyone were connected to each other in the first 5 seasons like chain. and this was really strong for a animated series & at the same time really dark & this is why I think TMNT 2003 not just one of the Best TMNT shows but at the same time on of the Best animated series's ever because this show was really really mature with serious foes & gritty & dark tone ,when 1987 & 2012 were focusing on aliens, krangs, mutated foes childish things.
I really love the retrospectives you've done on the DCAU and this as well. Hope you continue doing some for other TV shows as well. Ben 10 is something I'd really like for you to tackle.
This retrospective showed me where some plot points from 2012 came from. That’s the only TMNT show I saw all the way through, but I would like to watch through this show
TMNT 2003 is the best TMNT show for me and one of my fave animated shows of all time! Amazing retrospective and a great trip down memory lane! 💙🐢❤🐢💜🐢🧡🐢 Also, 2003 Raph is one of my fave comfort characters, one of my fave characters in general and my fave version of Raph ever! I love him so much! My fave angry badass with a passionate and soft center! ❤🐢💢
Donni was my favorite followed by Mikey, and then Rafh and Leo on the same spot but all the turtles were great. Doni was the nicest turtle and the most balance in personality and skills. not completely childish but also not completely serious either. not the most dedicated warrior but also had an amazing skills and weapon. also he was very smart and important to the team. without him The shredder even took over the world in one reality. Mikey was extremely funny and also very nice and skilled. Rafh and Leo had their own special traits and great moments.
What an amazing series, for the show AND your videos! I watched the first 3 seasons, played the PS2 games to death, and watched plenty of the 87' show with my uncle. So for me it was a great mix of nostalgia of my childhood and a payoff to all of those amazing stories. I watched the first season retrospective when I just got a new job, after a year and a half of crawing out of depression. Now, I'm seeking new reights personally and professionally, and was delighted see the rest of this journey. It was super heartwarming to see you nerding out to characters that were so on the back of my mind. I can see how much of a labor of love this retrospective was, and I'm super excited to see the rest of the channel and everything you have planned for this year. To a even better year in this 2023 for both of us!
I’m gen x so 87 are MY turtles. But I just watched the 2013 series and LOVED it! So I gave this one a try and stopped. You’ve inspired me to give it another shot. But when streaming it that bumper. “1,2,3,4! Are you in 🎶 teenage mutant, ninja turtles 🎶 back to back 3 times an episode gets irritating lol
1:43:01 That's actually another reference to the Mirage comics, where Raph actually takes on the identity of the Shredder and takes over the Foot Clan.
This was my first turtles show, and actually was released ten days before my birthday that year haha. I loved the show and played ALL of the games as I could.
I'm glad you mentioned the music because that always stuck in my brain. The foot theme in particular just can never leave my head. It's one of the first things I think of when it comes to the 2003 series. I mean you used plenty of music I remember from the first 2003 game in the background during this video. I don't know if that music was made for the game but damn does it live rent free in my head. Something about this music always stuck with me.
I love both 2003 and 2012 TMNT, no offense but the Shredders plural are my favorite characters from both series, cyber shredder is my favorite design-wise shredder, while Cheryl utrom shredder is my favorite shredder personality-wise.
We need a J’s Reviews on Mutant Mayhem. Especially after the segment in your vid talking about the Turtles and their staying power. Looks like we’re in a Turtlemania renaissance!
I loved how much the show expanded on the triceratons and the federation Usually when you find yourself in the middle of a war you pick the side that’s right but what do you do when both sides of the war want to kill you It’s a concept I never get tired of I wish it happened more often not just in TMNT but fiction in general
Fast-Forward could have been a big success if it was its own series. Imagine (in a slightly more perfect world) if Season 5 was truly the final season to the series and it finished on a high note. Then move right into Fast-Forward as either a sequel series or a rebooted narrative. It could have worked if the turtles found themselves creating new lives in this futuristic world and forming new bonds that made us feel connected as well, adding to the conflict if they should go back or continue living in the future. It's sad that Fast-Forward gets a lot of hate, but I understand why. When being put up against 5 really good seasons that had a darker tone and serious nature, coming out as the newest entry and more light-hearted is not a good position to be in. That said, if looked at as a separate show, it's not that bad. I personally really like Starlee as a new character and I wish we had gotten more of her.
Amazing retrospective, man! I grew up with this show when it was airing and I consider these as my take on the Turtles. The version of the Shredder is my definitive take on the character, when I read the comics I mentally hear Scottie Ray's voice. I come back to this show to feel that tinge of nostalgia when watching episodes like Same as it Never Was, the Shredder Strikes and Strikes Back, Insane in the Membrane, and many more. Almost 20 years later and this show, for all its flaws, still holds up. Also I'm bummed they didn't do the TriShreddatron episodes, that would have made me the happiest bastard ever lol!!
I'm shocked I always thought the show ended with Ultimate Drako😂😂😂 I loved this series with a passion as a kid thanks for making this video it was a blast reliving one of the favorite parts of my childhood
😺 I would love a modern TMNT game with this art style and voice actors 💕 the 3d ones on PS2 are decent but I'd like a 2d beat em up with these turtles 😸
I think it's funny you mentioned Ben 10 because it faced the same meddling these turtles eventually, in spades. Also fun fact Sam Riegel aka This donatello, was voice director of Sonic lost world!
Glad to have been here. I'd definitely watch more videos about the turtles from you, I feel like you'd have some interesting things to say about the 90s trilogy, the Bay duology, 2012, Rise, the original 87-heck, I'd even watch you just... roast The Next Mutation.
1:34:39 I personally prefer the term "Catch-up-isms" to describe what you're talking about. It's something I noticed on long-running shows a lot, especially in the days before streaming made that kind of dialogue rather obsolete.
Outstanding series of videos. A series I would love to see you tackle is Gargoyles. Seems very up your alley and in line with the 03 TMNT and the DCAU.
The entirety of this series even including fast forward and back to the sewers, while including turtles forever will always be one of the peak moments of my childhood growing up,originally i grew up with gijoe and later transformers but after being opened up to tmnt and sonic X as well as yugioh and pokemon my world was forever changed, two years back i got around to finishing fast forward and watching back to the sewer to finally complete the series as a whole and watching those episodes made me feel like a five year old again when i owned the 2003 figures as well as the famous turtle lair playset, btw tmnt 2 battle nexus was one of my favorite ps2 games to play especially with my siblings like no joke i always wanted to use leo and mikey as they were the two i excelled at the most game play wise
Honestly, my biggest problem with the show was just how few other mutants there were. Mutants are a huge part of the TMNT mythos, and they were sparsely used.
I have memories with your retrospective on this series, and I've been rewatching it as I rewatch the 2003 series, so I am happy to see this reposted as one long video. I really wish to see you do a retrospective on the 2012 series
I was a big fan of tmnt growing up. At first I was gonna use this video for background noise to sleep but hearing how in-depth he goes on with each episode really made me reminisce to my young days. I ended up watching it fully, interested af haha. I actually like back to the sewers I loved the idea of an internet setting. I just now realized that version of turtles have pupils! Haha great video!
The 2003 Turtles are my Turtles. It had the best designs, fights, voices, and most importantly the best soundtrack and atmosphere
Facts!
i wish my depression arc was as iconic as his
@@Vendetta162X Ooof, I was born in 1990 and I think the best TMNT representation is easily the 2012, 2003 is second place but a close one, 2012 started slow but give it a chance the entirety of the series was amazing and the Splinter is by far my favorite Splinter or even Wise Mentor character in any IP. 2003 TMNT version of Baxter Stockman is like that one stubborn fly you just can't get rid of, no matter how much you try.
Yes, I know what I did.
so to speak
Tough one to answer 🤔🤔
I really hate that companies and stores act like the 2003 show never happened. You can't even find a basic T-shirt for them without buying it online. Almost 20 years later and there's 0 merch. Nasty work. It also upset when the 2012 bypassed the '03 boys just to work with the '87 turtles. The '03 Turtles get treated like they're the next mutation show.
Really? Wow
Playmates is reissuing the 2003 figures, the full series is getting released as an all-in-one box set, and Super7 is doing all 4 Turtles as part of their Ultimates! line.
YES EXACTLT i was wondering where the hell my babies whrr 😂😢
the 2003 turtles are the best version in my opinion. although the 80s/90s animated turtles were pretty good too
2003 had the best donnie: very smart, but NOT a nerd by any stretch, he was physically as big as his bros and could kick as much ass without going into techno martial arts every single time.
and best of all he wasn’t obsessed with april

Thanks for watching! Someone else in the comments mentioned your reddit page, I am now very excited to see the final product!

To this day, it baffles me how the company responsible for the original One Piece dub and even Yu-Gi-Oh! also created a series like this.
The fourth season in particular being the darkest
That's cause 4kids wasn't solely on charge of it. It was a American show with two other parties included. Meaning 4kids weren't alone to just alter the show how they like
@@tensedart3470 Oh that makes sense
2003 and 2012 tmnt were easily the best representation of the turtles on screen. Bar none. To me its always been between those two shoes. However I still respect the 1987 show for it did for the franchise and putting it on the map and setting up the tropes that 2k3 and 2k12 perfected.
YES I can finally watch all this masterpiece of a review in 1 sitting. Outstanding work man Loved it. As someone who watched TMNT 2003 on FoxBox and collected the figures this took me back & I'd loved hearing your perspective
Thanks for watching, man! I am glad that my series was widespread enough to even be seen by someone with a video as big as yours.

The 2003 turtles will always be the best for me. The best storytelling and character growth.

He wasn't even supposed to be at the audition, but afterwards Peter Laird wanted him specifically to be Leo.
i think he's easily a top 3 VA to ever play Leo, the only one I think is slightly better is Seth Green in the second half of 2012
It's crazy to believe this show is now 20 years old now god I feel old I grew up watching this adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and still my favorite version of these characters now I'm gonna go watch the show again now also so glad the entire series is on Paramount+
Yep
Not in Australia
im buying paramount just to watch this show because as you said i also grew up watching these turtles
Too bad Turtles Forever isn't on the service.
The first 4 seasons are re-watchable gems.
I have been re watching the DVDs for the 03 show and it's my favorite adaptation and I'm glad it's not "lost" anymore and it's getting the recognition it deserves
03 amd 12 are my favorite runs of the turtles
The episode “Insane in the Membrane” is one of the few cartoon episodes I can think of that scared me as a kid.
I think because there are some those dark episodes, we don't even get to watch the fourth season, where I come from.
I actually never new that, that's crazy. That might explain why the humor got so much better after Season 1 though
Wow that's odd
How to watch?
@@tombondcrispy6585paramount plus
The foot soldiers in turtles forever are the season 7 design so there’s at least something
Thank you
Also, very much looking forward to a TMNT 2007 movie retrospective
Your TMNT videos about the 2003 show are some of the best i’ve seen on RUclips, here’s to a Cowabunga Collection 2 with the 2003 games console and handheld versions 😊
no need to curse at our Father like that man! but i love your passion for this awesome show
Thank you for the retrospective, this show doesn’t deserve to be forgotten.
TMNT 03 WAS MY CHILDHOOD THANK YOU FOR THIS RETROSPECTIVE
The 2003 TMNT series was one of my favorites! I’ll always love this show! Amazing retrospective!
GREAT IDEA!!!! Compare and contrast 2003 series vs 2012 series!
as someone in their mid 20s this is my favorite show of all time and it's not close. I've watched the first 5 seasons 20 times minimum over the years and they always bring me joy. This video was a masterpiece great work
I'm so glad that I found the entire series on RUclips. I never would've been able to see the episodes I had missed if not.
I remember when i was young my mom would throw on tmnt 2003. My youngest brother and i loved it so much, makes me miss him.

Glad to know that the games' plot were fairly faithful to the show
2003 Turtles were my childhood and the best ones.
I did not expect you to make a collection of the TMNT 2003 series.
I love this entire show every season, this show was my childhood
I'd like to thank these videos for convincing me to binge the entire show on Paramount Plus and turning it into one of my favorite incarnations of the Turtles.
for me, this is one of the best videos on youtube.
thank you J
This video dredged up so many memories and now I feel like I gotta rewatch it
Thank you so much. I adored this series so much as a kid.
It has definitive ends in Season 5 and Turtles Forever though.
I'm glad you made this compilation, those vids were amazing and they made me rewatch the show
Used to watch episodes of the 2003 show on RUclips when I was a kid!
This is gold.
are we not gonna talk about how the elite guard's theme sends chills down your spine every time you hear it?
Man the way this show evolved throughout the seasons reminds me of Ninjago. Great video.

Thanks for making my work day a little bit better
I'm glad you mentioned the music because that always stuck in my brain. The foot theme in particular just can never leave my head. It's one of the first things I think of when it comes to the 2003 series. I mean you used plenty of music I remember from the first 2003 game in the background during this video. I don't know if that music was made for the game but damn does it live rent free in my head.
Something about this music always stuck with me.
Good thing the DVD problem is now being fixed
I love both 2003 and 2012 TMNT, no offense but the Shredders plural are my favorite characters from both series, cyber shredder is my favorite design-wise shredder, while Cheryl utrom shredder is my favorite shredder personality-wise.
We need a J’s Reviews on Mutant Mayhem. Especially after the segment in your vid talking about the Turtles and their staying power. Looks like we’re in a Turtlemania renaissance!
I loved how much the show expanded on the triceratons and the federation
Usually when you find yourself in the middle of a war you pick the side that’s right but what do you do when both sides of the war want to kill you
It’s a concept I never get tired of I wish it happened more often not just in TMNT but fiction in general
The 2000’s era were the golden age for cartoons
I'm shocked I always thought the show ended with Ultimate Drako😂😂😂
I loved this series with a passion as a kid thanks for making this video it was a blast reliving one of the favorite parts of my childhood

woooow I remember that exodus trailer, great find!!

This is such a wonderfully informative and entertaining video essay. Loved this show as a kid thankyou for helping me appreciate it again.
