Jak 3 is GOAT-ed. One of my favourite childhood game...i could play it for hours just driving/hoverboarding around the desert and not doing any missions.
Same here, I loved fighting the never ending enemies in the city districts and I would roleplay light or dark jak and use certain weapons only and upgrade to better ones... Was much better at roleplaying as a kid and having fun that's for sure
Favorite past time was sometimes going out to the desert on foot and seeing how long I could last against the deset muaraders. Let me just say, there's nothing quite like using the zero gravity gun against a bunch of desert dune buggies.
I think the transition from Jak being mute to being a grizzly speaker was done so perfectly, given the story. He lost his best friend for so long, he was separated from his loved ones, was imprisoned & tortured as just a teenager & was made into a living weapon by forcibly injecting tons of Dark Eco into him, & it was all because of one man. So for that to have been the first thing he said shows us how hard those 2 years really hit him, he was determined, driven into near madness by the Dark Eco only to have long-lost friend bring him back into sanity... "Shock value", whatever, well it worked lmao As a child, I was so taken aback to see that cutesy kid I liked in the 1st game become so tragic in his character, I love that part so much.
Jak being without Daxter for 2 years who usually speaks for him makes perfect sense to why Jak speaks now. He also doesn't have to filter his rough and tumble personality through Daxters humor.
I remember reading that the reason they didn't let you skip the cutscenes in the first game is because most people at the time thought of cutscenes in video games as not important. They were worried that people would skip these cutscenes out of habit, missing out on the immersive experience they'd worked so hard to create.

The Jak and Daxter trilogy are 3 of the dozen or so games I've gone out of my way to 100%. Jak 3 was so much fun on hero mode with infinite ammo and dark and light powers. But that lurker shark sound effect still triggers that fight or flight in me. My god, the first time I had that happen, it terrified me
Daxter is my personal favorite video game companion/sidekick. If it weren't for his commentary/jokes in the 1st game I probably wouldn't have enjoyed playing it since Jak didn't talk. His spin off game actually shows that he is capable of being a hero in his own right & a comic relief character can have dramatic moments. In the 2nd game we actually got to see his and Jak's relationship develop & we actually see why they are such good friends/heroic duo. The 3rd game brought their friendship to the test when Daxter stood by Jak when no one else would & he got his happy ending getting his glory, girl, & pants. Oh, & let's just all agree that the last 2 games aren't relevant to their story.
I finished Jak trilogy for like 8 over more than 10 years ago, but I've never actually noticed you can do that jump-spin-shoot combo and now I feel like I want to play it again to try. even back then as an early teenager, I found it's difficulty being top-notch. Some places worse than others, but you always have enough options to get through them. Jak III is still one of the greatest titles I've ever played. Jak being an outcast with even his apparel turning into a basically war-torn armor while still keeping it's Jak 1 and 2 basics was amazing and I feel like it is the one of the few trilogies that each sequel gotten better, not worse.
Fun fact about Halo Combat Evolved, at the time of it’s release The Silent Cartographer was the largest scale battle that had ever been produced for a video game
I grew up playing the first game, had a ton of fun with it. Honestly hadn’t thought of this series in years, so it’s great to see a whole video about it. Thanks man.
Full stop, Jak & Daxter series is one of my all-time favorites. That said, what you said with its main games trying to appeal to multiple audiences ringed true to me. Specifically Jak 3.
I loved the futuristic second of the second one and the sort of "free roam vibe" before I ever played any GTA games! I don't remember these looking so "jaggedy / pixelated"! As a kid these graphics blew my mind!
Part of the jagged/pixely thing is that the original PS2 versions of the games were designed graphically to take advantage of CRT blurring, which helps to hide and soften some of those hard edges you're seeing. Emulators tend to have a second postprocessing layer to antialias the resulting graphics before sending them to the screen, and the HD Remakes just have more polygons to play with, which is why neither of those versions will show the same issue. You can see something similar if you were to run an old 8-bit Mario on modern screens, the pixels look a lot more jagged because the crisper pixel depth of the modern progressive-scan HD screens works against them compared to the fuzzy lines of an interlaced CRT screen.
I've actually been replaying this series recently since I got the collection on sale for twenty bucks. It holds up beautifully. It's weird that muscle memory from decades ago can be so strong.
The series of Jak and daxter needs to remain the legend it is, if anything just needs a graphical update! They are legends in their own rights, and should not be desecrated like so many other games as of late! Watching this gave me so much nostalgia and I love it! Such an amazing game, and an amazing video!
Jak 1 was honestly the most innovative game for its time. attempting to break barriers and technological "magic" :D Even just their animation setup was honestly a miracle. I agree they innovated less with the following titles, but they still added new things, and used previous features well. So I dont believe its fair to say 2&3 were worse, just not as good as they could've been with more time
I’m now almost 30 introducing my 3yr old son to this series. He’s not coordinated yet but his eyes light up and he genuinely smiles ear to ear when he does something. It’s so good I’m also replaying the whole series when he’s asleep lol
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I've been playing this game ever since I was able to read and write and it has such a special place in my heart. I 1000% loved all 3 of the games and I wish there was another that continued from 3.
I love the jak/daxter series . Especially Jak 2 . The dark mode switch was a genius pivot from naughty dog who honestly never misses . Truly a founding father of 3d gaming & thank you for this history lesson of one the best developers of all time . Well done
The Jak having an uncle even though he's from the future so that can't be his uncle is easily explained even with the time travel shenanigans imho. Samus and Jak arrive, join the village, some story about Jak being an orphan and in the village there's a guy that really connects with Jak and becomes a fatherlike figure and is referred to as uncle fromt hat point forward. It also ties in to some things I'd really wish were told at some point, simply what happened to the villagers and all the NPC's of Jak one. I'm really curious if the miners ever got their diamond for example 😁 .
I was so freaking confused when you said "Samus and Jak arrive" before realizing you're talking about Samos. Metroid and Jak crossover, that's definitely something for the ages.
Now that you mention it, that's actually really sad, we never got to see what happened to the villagers or even the bad ass designed sages, I mean really that is one hell of an oversight on Naughty Dog's part.
Man, this was such a good video. I'm glad I clicked on it definitely got a new subscriber. I love how you're bringing back nostalgia in a positive way, but constructive as it should be a true retrospective. I can't wait to check out your other videos. Thanks for doing what you do.
Jak and Dexter was one of the first games I ever played. I didn’t even play it all the way through. My dad had just gotten a PS2 when they first came out and it came with a demo disc with a small part of the first game. I would replay that level over and over and over again. It was such a good time
I am so grateful for growing up in the 90's when I did. My childhood was filled with the fun of Crash Bandicoot, then in my teen years got to enjoy the immersive world and fun gameplay of the Jak and Daxter trilogy, which to this day is my most cherished gaming experience of all time. And I really wish they would come out with a remastered Jak X combat racing and adding smart match making and Esports competitions. I would get SO addicted to that game if they ever did that. I still look out for new racing games that would take up the mantle of that experience, but so far nothing has come out yet.
The jak series is soooooo good and so forgotten. These are how games should be. Not necessarily all platformers, but daring to push tech boundaries, a story, mechanics, happy dev team, detail, love, etc. Thanks for this vid on one of my fav game series 💜
Gonna watch this when I get a chance but I know it’s gonna be gold. I really enjoyed your deep analysis of the series in previous videos. This franchise means a lot to me and having someone convey the same passion for it like I would growing up and till now is simply amazing! Keep up the great work man!
I grow up on spyro, crash, jack and ratchet games, they were my go to platform games that I loved as teen and still love them today, so happy to see they still are remebered not only by me, great video!
This was a pleasure to watch. The Jak & Dax series has to be one of the most defining games from my childhood. A catalyst that still holds up today. You could feel the passion from the developers throughout the story. Sadly a passion which isn't as often felt these days. Games built by a dedicated close family workplace. Games built over time, and released when the makers think them ready. Developer commentaries are next to extinct. Pre and post release mini documentaries showing developers truly loving whatever project they are working on are nowhere to be seen. However I admit noclip has done a huge amount of good work showing the work process from more recent games and even revisiting old ones. Hopefully things come back around to be more like those days
Nice to see I wasn't the only weirdo rocking out to the Jak X OST while I worked on my college homework. I had such a love for the series that I kept playing it for a long time.
I will say that I genuinely like scene in The Lost Frontier where Jak finds the lab and has his little PTSD moment. It's a good scene and I think the idea of exploring his trauma from the experience would be rich material for a potential Jak 4
I remember my dad and I got the first game from a Hollywood Video and we played it all night. I'd never seen a game like this at the time, I was amazed. My dad still talks about this series from time to time. Good memories :)
Great series. So much to love about it. From the way Jak and Daxter interact with each other to the gameplay, story and tight platforming. Each game is fun to play in their own way and have different identities that are great representations into how the gaming industry went about developing; at that time. It's a shame that the series ended the way it did (despite highlights like Jak X and it's story and gameplay) and I can only hope for some new IP that brings back some of the best aspects of a game like Jak, but with something unique to set itself apart. *FOR JAY* : I have a request. I know you really enjoy comics and series such as the Justice League, which is why I want you to take a look at *The Punisher* *2005* video game. It's an insanely good incredibly underrated game with some great gameplay and an amazing story. The likes of which are ahead of it's time in terms of "gritty Superhero re-boots." Just some food for thought
the punisher game was SO fucking amazing fun violent but it still makes you feel like the good guy despite the wood chipper or any of those visceral kills lol
I have hope that Jak and Daxter could return. Only because Rachet and Clank got a new ps5 game. And if they get one. Hopefully Jak does too. Same with Sly Cooper.
You realize Insomniac carries that franchise right? Without them RaC is nothing in more ways than one; proven by the utter failures when any other studio touches it (i.e the subpar movie/pilot and high impact in general). The same also applies for Jak and Sly.
I would love a return of Jak and daxter however they have to explore other worlds, I don't see anything being able to threaten them otherwise 🤔 plus I kinda need an explanation as to how Jak built haven city
This video actually got me to download all three games and run through them. Currently working through Precursor Legacy and it's much better than I remember when I played it on the PS2 ages ago.
I'd never really tried out Jak II, believing that it wouldn't be like the original game. Now I'm curious to try it out, since I've learned it has much of the feel of the first game, which I enjoyed. Thanks for getting me interested in it!

First time watching one of your videos, just randomly popped up on my screen, within 10 minutes i really appreciated your effort you put into your video, without the fact it being one of my favourite games of my childhood, i subbed very soon into the video i loved and laughed, ESPECIALLY at the Daxter clip where you say "being a BIG youtube sure does get ya" hahahha good one, looking forward to watching more!
While i would love it, after the change of Jak 2 and 3 it would feel very strange. Another TPL type of game would just be better to reboot the series instead.
Its sad that jack and daxter 1 had better character development, face animations and emotions than most modern day videos games who have 0 face animations whatsoever.
Jack 3 is still today maybe my favorite game ever played. It’s so complete, it has so much weapons, vehicles, scenery, and gameplay variety that it’s revolutionary even today
funny how games made in the PS2 days actually had actual working weapons that had impact and makes the enemies react differently for each one when they get all while we still got games that just recently came out where enemies just shrugs off or just completely ignore your attacks looking at you Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
This trilogy was my childhood and i will protect it with my dying breath. Absolutely phenomenal series
Hell yeah me to man 🥹

How on gods green earth is this not atleast a 1Mil sub channel? the time care and effort in these videos is clear as day, i cant even imagine the time and effort that goes into these videos, you deserve tons more subs imo...
The precursor legacy was one of my first ever video games. The nostalgia from your footage is real.
Jak and Dexter series needs to come back with a sequel or at least with a remake of the trilogy.
A sequel would be much more appreciated. So fkn tired of remakes and remasters
I would like a remake or rebote but I don't know because they could change some stuff but me personality I would prefer a remaster
@Un Shakl3d if you’re referring to the ending as a remake you’re talking about a reboot. A remake actually would be great
@Un Shakl3d Both Jak 3's and X endings were pretty open there is room for more, we know almost nothing about Jak's world.
Plz
Max Casella should do more voice work in General. He's hilarious as Timon in the Original Broadway recording of The Lion King Stage Musical.
I mean jak X wasnt a bad story or game frontier was a disaster.
Loved daxter lol , did u ever play gex the gecko ?
You are a legend for beating jak 2 without the spin shot
Fun fact about Halo Combat Evolved, at the time of it’s release The Silent Cartographer was the largest scale battle that had ever been produced for a video game
I grew up playing the first game, had a ton of fun with it. Honestly hadn’t thought of this series in years, so it’s great to see a whole video about it. Thanks man.
Full stop, Jak & Daxter series is one of my all-time favorites. That said, what you said with its main games trying to appeal to multiple audiences ringed true to me. Specifically Jak 3.
This video has easily made you one of my favorite RUclipsrs of all time, very excited too watch your other content!
@@5bars3g36 this is very evident when you go from the composite RCA cables to s video, everything gets way too jagged because of newfound clarity
Jak 2 was next level. Way ahead of the curve
That first game still holds up really well! The art and animation are great.
Finally, another Jak II enjoyer.
Ah the Golden Age of ND.
I've actually been replaying this series recently since I got the collection on sale for twenty bucks. It holds up beautifully. It's weird that muscle memory from decades ago can be so strong.
Wait, that's why I had so many issues with the PS4 port?! I thought Precursor Legacy was feeling a bit clunkier than I remembered...
The series of Jak and daxter needs to remain the legend it is, if anything just needs a graphical update! They are legends in their own rights, and should not be desecrated like so many other games as of late! Watching this gave me so much nostalgia and I love it! Such an amazing game, and an amazing video!
Awesome video. Jak II was and always will be one of my favorite games of all time. I played the hell out of my copy.
Amazing video as always, you truly have huge potential on this platform, keep it up dude.
i Will keep it op so i Can
Jak 1 was honestly the most innovative game for its time. attempting to break barriers and technological "magic" :D
Even just their animation setup was honestly a miracle.
I agree they innovated less with the following titles, but they still added new things, and used previous features well. So I dont believe its fair to say 2&3 were worse, just not as good as they could've been with more time
What a great way to start your channel this year.
I’m now almost 30 introducing my 3yr old son to this series. He’s not coordinated yet but his eyes light up and he genuinely smiles ear to ear when he does something. It’s so good I’m also replaying the whole series when he’s asleep lol
One "upgrade" I loved in jak 2 was how the music turned a bit metal when you hold a gun. Literally changes on the spot
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO. I've been playing this game ever since I was able to read and write and it has such a special place in my heart. I 1000% loved all 3 of the games and I wish there was another that continued from 3.
I’m subscribing for you making this video, I wish more attention was brought to this gem of a series with such good lore.
@@saltystick_99 I would be confused aswel if I read that ^^, but yes indeed I meant Samos.
Unfortunately more than likely all the villagers probably die to Metal Heads.
@@Priceluked I actually think about that every time I play the first game...
It was such a good time
ohhhh man i finally meet someone who enjoys blastin Jak X soundtrack while having to focus on some tasks/work
great channel friend
Happy New Year J! Thanks for the awesome content!
It's about time the Jax & Dax series get the attention it deserves. It was one of my favorite games to play on the Playstations.
I had no Idea the guns correlated with the eco types. So cool to learn that after all these years. Thanks J!
Jak And Daxter are SO DAMN GOOD I loved 3 and Jak X. Each year we dont get more I suffer in great pain.
Dang, 300k views. This goes to show how much love and care the Jak and Daxter series is still getting despite the 13+ year hiatus it’s been getting.
And 1 Million more now. We want Jak and Daxter 4!!!
Thanks for taking me back, Man. As a kid I LOVED Jack 2 & 3; 2 the most. But the dirt buggies in 3 were fun.
The Jak and Daxter series was one of my favorites from when I was a kid!!!
Gonna watch this when I get a chance but I know it’s gonna be gold. I really enjoyed your deep analysis of the series in previous videos. This franchise means a lot to me and having someone convey the same passion for it like I would growing up and till now is simply amazing! Keep up the great work man!
If you liked his previous videos on the series, I've got a hunch you'll like this one too.
I grow up on spyro, crash, jack and ratchet games, they were my go to platform games that I loved as teen and still love them today, so happy to see they still are remebered not only by me, great video!
Jak1 had a day and night cycle… i was amazed with it as a kid… stand with jak and daxter on a cliff with a sunset and wind blowing… great memories.
Thank you for the video. Jak and Daxter is one of my favorite games. Wonderful work. 😊
Omg! For so long I thought I was the only one who felt this series died too soon. It honestly needs a nice soft reboot and a good marketing strategy.
When I take my daily omega 3 fish oil capsules, they remind me of metal head skulls.
Man during the height of Covid.
I played the whole Jak & Daxter series, Sly Cooper Series and Ratchet & Clank Series.
It's a good scene and I think the idea of exploring his trauma from the experience would be rich material for a potential Jak 4
you sir jus earned my sub dope vid
The Jak and daxter trilogy is one of the greatest of all time imo I love it
I remember my dad and I got the first game from a Hollywood Video and we played it all night.
The likes of which are ahead of it's time in terms of "gritty Superhero re-boots."
Just some food for thought
the punisher game was SO fucking amazing fun violent but it still makes you feel like the good guy despite the wood chipper or any of those visceral kills lol
As never played the Jak games, I've loved every minute of this video
I have hope that Jak and Daxter could return. Only because Rachet and Clank got a new ps5 game. And if they get one. Hopefully Jak does too. Same with Sly Cooper.
You realize Insomniac carries that franchise right? Without them RaC is nothing in more ways than one; proven by the utter failures when any other studio touches it (i.e the subpar movie/pilot and high impact in general). The same also applies for Jak and Sly.
Sly Cooper and Jak were my childhood games. I want more daily
10:09 that gymnastic jump off that thing was nostalgic af
My parents were weird about video games when I was a kid so I missed the entire PS1/PS2/PS3 era. But hearing Mr Krabs say people will be shot just took me tf out😂😂😂
First time watching one of your videos, just randomly popped up on my screen, within 10 minutes i really appreciated your effort you put into your video, without the fact it being one of my favourite games of my childhood, i subbed very soon into the video i loved and laughed, ESPECIALLY at the Daxter clip where you say "being a BIG youtube sure does get ya" hahahha good one, looking forward to watching more!
Great series, and great coverage.
3 Hours of my favorite childhood game, definite watch
If they ever make a Jak 4 it needs to be a platformer collectathon like the first game
@@CerealKiller with guns and dark jak of course which dark jak would give you new platforming abilities with more methods of traversal
@@CerealKiller In your opinion
While i would love it, after the change of Jak 2 and 3 it would feel very strange. Another TPL type of game would just be better to reboot the series instead.
Jak 2 is what made me fall in love with games as a young boy.
Its sad that jack and daxter 1 had better character development, face animations and emotions than most modern day videos games who have 0 face animations whatsoever.
this video made my life better bro thank you for real. much love brother
Jack 3 is still today maybe my favorite game ever played. It’s so complete, it has so much weapons, vehicles, scenery, and gameplay variety that it’s revolutionary even today
when you first escape the prison and the guards say "surrender and die" is my favourite scene from any game ive ever played
I love Jak and daxter series growing up.
The Jak X music in this video makes me SOOOOO nostalgic. I loved that game SO much as a kid and it's been at least 13 years since I've played it.
funny how games made in the PS2 days actually had actual working weapons that had impact and makes the enemies react differently for each one when they get all while we still got games that just recently came out where enemies just shrugs off or just completely ignore your attacks looking at you Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
