Whats fked up is that after they saw the metrics for the final season's first episode, they admitted they may have made a mistake but it was too late by then. Oh a mistake disney? Did all the massive petitions, the huge social media friction against your decision and the numbers owl house had been pulling before NOT clue you into the fact you were making a mistake disney?! We lost so much from the condensation. The relevance of the artifacts, their date in the human world, hunters growth, everyones interactions with V and her growth, V's interactions with her human friends, Gus's character growth and limelight, a hundred little moments of their worries in the human world, their adventures in the human world against the "witch hunter", dealing with monster belos, loads of scenes with the mom learning about what Luz went through, her stress from managing all the kids, and getting in touch with all of them. Then we also lost the plot element regarding the talisman forest, loads of scenes regarding the collector and world, how the school and students had been fairing. So many different aspects lost because of disney.
Yeah, it was done dirty, but I don’t get why when they have stuff even more gay nowadays. Disney didn’t need to drop the show when they have other media that is just as lgbtq, if not worse, lol.
Dana Terrace and everyone on her team deserved so much better. It's a shame it wasn't allowed a full season 3, but the series we got was still incredible. And Considering the conditions and limitations the team had to work with, I say the ending turned out great. I'm glad Dana Terrace is now free from Disney.
If I were a creator in making a new series in animation outside of Disney, WB, Nickelodeon even Universal, I would hiring her in freedom of animation democracy. Also wanna putting in Amazon Prime as an original series.
The biggest downside? "The Owl House" is legally Disney's property, not Dana Terrace's. She can't do any short films or even draw a picture of any Owl House character without Disney's permission. If she did, she would be sued into oblivion
@@Ermakshually yea, plus the merch!! ive seen indie animations being popular and some inspired me but they prob had more things behind it besides "im a small animator with a small team"
@@Ermakshually Objection! At least the show will be shown to the world regardless not be canned and sit in copyright hell and be canceled mid way through production (ex Neon Galaxy)
They said Nimona was too gay for them…and yet it was nominated for an Oscar and Disney barely had any mention of any of their movies being nominated, because they because tanked in comparison of likability compared to Nimona (Elemental)

If Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace made their own animation studio during this Indie Animation series boom we are currently experiencing for what they wanted to fully create, I would be 100% there for it . Their true visions shouldn't be cut short because of Disney's ever changing and deplorable standards
Last time Alex ptiched something to Netflix but that was years, years ago. I think regular networks don't think high on animation, most of them still want to rely on regular television. It's obvious you need to be the special boy, to be seen.
and I wish and hope they do, because considering the shit they've been through with Disney, I'd immediately jump on the support train and if they made something that put Disney's releases on the mud, bruv COUNT ME IN, I'd be all for it.
Disney actually admitted that cancelling The Owl House was a bad idea because of how popular it got. Man, really hope that Disney gives new shows a better shake when it comes to developing new IP.
and they had plentiful warning. The petitions, the high friction social media metrics, the numbers owl house had already been pulling. They openly stated it wasnt "relevant" and then when season 3's first episode pulled huge numbers, they were like "oh we made a mistake".
The Owl House deserved so much better. My partner and I have been rewatching it along with Amphibia and Gravity Falls and all of it was just fantastic.
@Finity_twenty_ten, dearly, sincerely, and honestly, you shut up 🤗🤗🤗 people use the term “partner” all the time, and the use of the word doesn’t determine the person’s gender identity. It’s used for privacy reasons, so kindly grow up, you nasty thing.
Disney: The Owl House doesn’t fit the ‘Disney brand’. Also Disney: -Filmed the Mulan remake near concentration camps. -Ended Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil on a magic Holocaust with the terrorist Mina and traitor Moon getting off scot-free. -Initially named Tater’s suburb ‘Earthquake Heights’. -Forced Pixar to make Inside Out 2 “less gay”. -Has an episode of The Proud Family revival where Penny’s parents deliberately lock their daughter out of her house. -Donated to legislators of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida. -Lobbied politicians for decades to make copyright law the broken, abusable mess that it is today. -Omits characters of colour like Finn from Star Wars in Chinese movie posters. -Shelved a Moon Girl episode featuring a Trans character because of Trump winning the elections.
I still feel rlly bad for Dana since she said most of this was stuff was decided without her there and she was just told the decisions afterwards, like that's really messed up even if it's how business works there. Like imagine you create a show that hits close to home and gives high amounts of positivity and suspense to any and everyone who watches it, yet you can't be apart of the decisions that are gonna be made for you're creation, and you're just told what's gonna happen with your creation. You'd be seriously pissed and pulling all your hair out over that.
It is insane that the creator/show runner isn't at least required to be in the room (or conference call/skype/whatever) while these decisions are made.
I don’t know what’s sadder, Amphibia being the last Disney show that treated fairly by Disney or the fact the treatment by Disney we got was somehow still better than of the show was greenlit under Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network
Disney always seems to have this weird habit of only letting these shows last three seasons compared to Nickelodeon who would just cancel a show immediately if it doesn't reach the same instant success as Spongebob.
Well, it's simple if it ain't making them money, then just cancel them, then let all the shows that give them money stay. Greed has truly changed our society.
It really suck that the higher ups of Disney were just like, "Nah doesn't fit the brand", that doesn't make sense to me. There are so many lack luster shows and something like this with actual development and story is exactly what they needed. Animated kids shows haven't captivated me since Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show I loved when I was growing up and still love as an adult today. Shows like Owl House, Amphibia and Infinity Train are all shows finishing too soon and its baffling that studios don't want to continue these amazing pieces of media. Sorry Disney that its not another bullshit live-action or sequels, but put some of that budget towards actual pieces of art will ya?
_"Doesn't fit the brand"_ I could list all the adult-oriented properties Disney owns in the same way SpongeBob showed Patrick all those dirty diapers he had to change.
they'd rather double down on horrible representation in shows like the acolyte and fight the audience about what terrible people they are rather than focus on the good representation like the Owl House. At this rate I wouldn't be shocked if they're just trying to make any form of representation look as bad and pandering as possible to convince shareholders that it's not worth it so they don't have to bother trying
Acolyte wasn’t even bad representation though. It didn’t even come close to the bigoted anti-woke straw man for that matter. It was just badly written, something seemingly forgotten by people who critique something nowadays. No, it can’t just be badly written and happen to feature minorities nooo, it has to be because of an insidious “woke agenda” or something.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 that's what I hate most about the constant anti woke crowd. It's always that it's because it's woke and inclusion can only be bad, but they completely ignore that even without the "woke" stuff those games would suck ass and if they didn't suck ass then the "woke" stuff wouldn't make it bad either.
Its not popular. It doesn’t sell merch. If owl house moved merch they’d never cancel it. It made money, they’d keep its Zombified corpse around forever. Simpsons hasnt been consistently funny in 20 years, but it makes money, so it sticks around. Im not teying to be insulting, just pointing out that if the people who crave representation actually spent money, they’d get more of the content they claim they like. The reality is, the only reason you get representation shows are all is because you have agenda driven creators and companies feared being called bigots. Ab-Inbev destroyed that. The majority stopped buying and stopped being afraid of being calles bigots, so the agenda creators are losing power. Owl House is a victim of its own creators. My advice? Focus on making good content and make the agenda an after thought. Then, no one will care about the random gay couple. This is why Camp Cretaceous worked, Sammy and Yas’s romance, like Kenji and Brooklyn, wasn’t the focus of the show. At no point was any agenda a focus. It was focused on kids escaping dinosaurs. Agenda driven shows focus too much on agenda and not enough on quality.
I noticed that it seems that many of the people Belos posesses develop permanent marks on their skin. Hunter gets more jagged marks added to his face while Rayne Whispers looks to have developed permanent tear marks on their face after their encounter with Belos. Makes me wonder if its an allegory for the trauma left behind after an assault. If it is it only paints Belos even more as a vile and irredeemable creature.
Disney treated The Owl House like Cartoon Network did to Steven Universe. The only difference? The Owl House had it worse and Disney even admitted that trying to cancel it was a really bad idea.
Yeah season 3 would have been great for the characters Amity, Gus, Willow and Hunter, learning about the human world I can imagine Gus learning about human technology and history but finding out that humans can be pretty terrible when he learns about world war II and other terrible tragedies among history, Hunter try to find anything tied to Philip and his brother past or maybe the characters meeting their human counterparts and maybe helping them but Hunter will never find his human counterpart because he was never meant to exist he was only a clone of Philips brother and probably a vessel for Philips if he kicked the bucket!
@@toadlord8594 I actually didn't mind those Earth episodes. Sure, they're not all the best, and, yes, the story picked right up again once they got back to Amphibia, but I still liked how we got to see what Anne's parents were like.
There are too many cartoons shows with so much potential and the creator having a lot of more story ideas for more seasons, but the studios ending them so early without them getting as fleshed out as they could. At least they can end the story they had. (Like the comments below said: RIP Infinity Train and OK K.O.!)
For real The Owl House was such a good series, to good for it's own good. The had a structured plot with nice reveals, good and creepy villains. A beautiful found family, realistic friendships and the best written LQBTQ+ romance I have seen in a cartoon. Disney treated it like trash. The show deserves so much bettee. It was still able to tell an amazing story even after it was cut short. ❤
Disney now is just too obsessed with creating uneeded sequel or live action remake of old famous work because of f4ck1n NOSTALGIA. Being a rather recent show, Owl house doesnt bring such sensation. Well done Disney, youre so expert at making your fans angry.
Its ridiculous that they cancelled Owl House, but allowed Primos. Moral of the story: Corporations hate you, so its okay to hate them back. EDIT: Primos is actually not that bad, but still….
51:41 YES THANK YOU this is why i hated Lightyear not because of the blink-and-miss kiss scene but because of how dull and boring it was, plus the twist villain is the WORST thing i've seen in any pixar movie period
The fact that this show had an ending is still insane! It sucks season 3 was cancelled and we got 3 specials that gave us problably 1/2 of what season 3 could’ve been! What a show! Solid show alongside Amphibia and Gravity Falls!
Dana and her crew did great work in getting the Owl House to finish as well as it did, given how fucked over they were by Disney. Hope they can continue making awesome shows, and don't ever have to deal with this kind of situation again.
I still won’t forgive Disney for nixing the _Owl House_ and making the show’s third season reduced as 3 specials. Honestly, I feel bad for Dana Terrace and the rest of the crew, writers and animators who had big plans for a full season three eventually get screwed over by Disney. Hopefully Dana gets to do something be it another cartoon, an animated movie or a graphic novel where she has more creative freedom without corporate restrictions.
@@Direwolf181 Don’t get me wrong I’m fortunate that the show ended on a high note instead of ending in an unsatisfying conclusion (looking at you Star vs.).

@@EChacon I'm hoping that when Bob Iger leaves Disney for good, which will be in two years, they'll hire a CEO who actually cares about their content instead of their pockets
Im going to be so real it took me a second to sort out my brain and understand what this meant. You’re comment was perfect and amazing and silly and I love it, and you did nothing to make it hard to understand, my ability to comprehend words just took a slip trip dive into the pool of reversible non-existence
Disney: "Owl house doesn't fit our brand cause queer witches n' stuff." Also Disney: "Agatha, Wandavision, Hocus Pocus, Marvel, Nightmare before Christmas and Acolyte have tons of queer witch stuff."
Yeah. And look at how hard they are trying to push that the Sanderson Sisters have a softer side to them so they'll be more marketable? Hocus Pocus 2 took out the Satan worship and child murder that made them so funny and dangerous in the first one. The sequel had horrible writing and a horrible story that was only made bearable because of the talented ladies reprising their roles. Oh, and the mayor was hilarious. I also feel like the ambiguosly gay couple sitting on the couch watching the Satan scene from the first movie was just ticking off a box and having it be compressed nicely into a scene that can be easily edited out.
It’s even sad that after owl house. Disney have been horribly treating on the other ones such as ghost and molly McGee, moon girl and devil dinosaur, and now Halley on it.
@@UltimateDragonX9999 What is Disney's problem with good cartoons? I mean, they even hate Buzz Lightyear of Star Command so much, they refuse to put it on Disney Plus.
If there is any consolation out of that wild situation, at least The Owl House didn't end on a cliffhanger, and the CEO, who was around when it got canceled, Bob Chapek, was thankfully fired. It won't matter much as we still have that awful Bob Iger, and Dana Terrace left Disney on bad terms because of what happened with her show, thus making it unlikely she'll come back but I'm hopeful Disney will do better as in two years, Iger will leave for good.
People said that Bob Iger never left when Chapek takes over and the first bob is in pure jealousy on his job to the point that he outright fired him randomly during an Elton John concert Chepek visited. Both bobs did not do their jobs right and now that my eyes are open with the bill, I now sided more with Texas then Florida. Cause Florida really hates everybody and also Ron attacks the president I voted for so screw him for that too. The Rhinos don't know what they're doing and this is why they're gonna lose the culture war if this keeps up.
Disney was sitting on a goldmine with this series and they didn't realize it until it was far too late. I can only hope it'll get the respect it deserves over time.
Saber redeems himself by pronouncing Luz's name correctly, then immediately undoes years of character development by mispronouncing her mom's name. Never change, man. Never change.
One of my biggest disappointments is that we never got to see the Titans in their glorious full on Eldritch horror-like ginormous size in flesh and blood. If their skeletons were big enough to constitute a whole island in it of themselves, one could only imagine how much bigger they could've been alive.
I love the Owl House, I cried after watching the series finale. I hated how Disney cancelled not only the Owl House, but Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Hailey’s on it as well. These shows deserved better.
@@CreativeNia 🤦🏽♀️at this point I’m so done with Disney after the final 10 episodes of MGADD premiere in 2025. I refuse to expect any of their upcoming cheap live action remakes and woke media. The way they shortened TOH season 3, canceled TGAMM after 2 seasons, and of course, MGADD once season 2 is over are the last straw. Their animated movies and shows are now the only things I like about Disney nowadays; my friends, it’s time to part ways with Disney, and move on to Indie Animation.
Belos' death will forever be etched into my mind, and for good reason. Dana Terrace did a fantastic job in making such a despicable, yet utterly pathetic man, who got the pathetic death he deserved. I really wish we had more of this show. Seriously, screw Disney for treating it so badly. They truly didn't know what they had...
I also love how, as Saber pointed out, he got the "anti-Steven-Universe treatment," because kids need to know that some people are sympathetic and redeemable, some people are sympathetic and irredeemable, and some people are Emperor Belos.
@@dinosaysrawrOdalia as well doesn’t get any redemption. She valued what her family could contribute to the business over any emotional love, was abusive or neglectful (in one episode Eda is more a maternal figure to Edric in one episode than Odalia has overall conversation time with him across them whole show) to her family as well as punishing others to keep Amity in line (which she also does with a magical tracker). It’s very karmic when by the end of the show she’s lost her business, her social standing and her family, who have a much better relationship without her dictating to them how they should be. It’s good there isn’t a “she’s her mother, she deserves a chance no matter what” ending for the Blight family. Like with Belos,it shows that abusers can run out of good will regardless of how you are related to them.
I really do like that Camilla has a valid view about Luz, that she shouldn’t have to conform but needs more self-awareness not to alienate people. In the pilot she was not reading the room at all, and when this involved live ready to hatch spider eggs, live snakes that got loose (Luz’s casual response about the back-up snakes is not reassuring) and fireworks on school property, well, the camp Camilla was sending her to comes across more justified. It’s shown in season two with Vee, who did go and made friends there and where it was clearly nowhere as soul destroying as the brochure made it out to be. We do see in the episode focusing on Vee that Camilla doesn’t want Luz to change completely, as she’s saddened by “Luz” doing exactly this. It’s so cute when we learn Camilla is a closet nerd too, but for Star Trek type franchise which Hunter and Gus get into finding the concealed merch.
@@jbcatz5 I wished the show didn't turn on it's heels and suddenly declare near the end of the show that Luz was 100% "misunderstood by society" instead of showing that, yeah, society laughed at her quirks, but also, like you said, Luz's OWN over-indulgence of her fantasies played a part too! Camilla had been horrifically labeled "the bad mum" until her return episode with Vee because "how dare she send Luz to a conformist camp instead of talking it out!" Any other option to NOT expel Luz in the first place was off the table the second she brought SNAKES and FIREWORKS to school, and Camilla literally couldn't balance her daughter understandably and constantly getting into trouble while being the sole breadwinner! I'm so glad opinions of Camilla had turned into "best mum wish she was mine", but I wished Luz didn't get the "aw but she's just a misunderstood quirky girl everyone else is bad" treatment, she REALLY needed a reality check that her fantasies could hurt herself and other people and that it's okay that she was flawed at the start too! Instead the show kinda scrubbed that aspect away 😓
@ The show was already deconstructing the Mabel Pines like archetype with Luz as early as episode two, with the Chosen One quest being a trick to snare the naive, so the pilot championing Luz flying her freak flag might have been either early instalment weirdness or the writing not being ready to point out how she also has a lot to learn regarding preconceptions.
There's an old quote from a previous Disney CEO, and I'll paraphrase. "We have no obligation to anything but to make money, if we make good art that's great, often good art is the source that makes money, but we are here to make money first and foremost." It was the CEO from the 1990s who said it back when he was at paramount and it sums them up perfectly. I found the quote. It's from Michael Eisner. We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make a statement. But to make money, it is often important to make history, to make art, or to make some significant statement. We must always make entertaining movies, and, if we make entertaining movies, at times, we will reliably make history, art, a statement or all three. We cannot expect numerous hits, but if every film has an original and imaginative concept, then we can be confident that something will break through.”
Eisner? Sounds like something Eisner would say. On the one hand, good on him for saving Disney in the 80s - but on the other, what a piece of work he is.
I mean....he has a point. Disney is a corporation, the nature of a corporation is to make money. Yeah, its gross that he thinks art is only worth producing if it makes Disney a lot of money, but hey at least he was honest and straightforward. Lots of wealthy people and corporations nowadays sprout this toxic positivity mindset and virtue signal and pander in an attempt to make themselves look virtuous when really all they care about is money.
I actually have a signed poster from some of the VA's (Luz and Camila) The VA for Raine Whispers was also there. All of them were so sweet and incredibly nice. At the time I could only afford to have one of them sign the poster, but They looked at eachother and just hastily both put their signatures and only charged me for one. It was so nice of them and I have nothing but positive memories of the show and its community. This is the show I give as an example of great representation too, because that's not all it was. It told a beautiful story and wrote amazing characters. The animation was really nice and the designs were really cute and fun. I hope we see more great works like it in the future.
At least they were hour-long episodes, so in terms of run time technically it works out to be more like six normal length episodes... but that's still way less than it deserved.
Weird example, but that reminds me of how Disney canned Fluppy Dogs (look it up) back in the 80s because the suits couldn't decide if it was a "boys' show" or a "girls' show." So stupid.
At this point, I'm convinced that Disney has become Anti-Love. Between canceling/not marketing animated things with LGBT+ elements and them not having any romance-driven arcs between the male and female leads (side character plots/parents don't count), they've clearly become allergic to the dreaded L-word.
They’re anti losing money. I’m not saying it’s ok, but there’s still a considerable amount of people in the world who aren’t into LGBTQ+ content. Enough people that could potentially financially affect Disney’s bottom line. Which is why Disney cancelled the series. I can guarantee you that if the people who are against LGBTQ+ content are apart of an extremely small minority, then Disney would have never cancelled the series. Because the profits would have far outweighed the potential loss from the minority group
I still often rewatch Owl House. I heard rumors that the creators of Gravity Falls, Amphibia and Owl House are coming together to make a comic to crossover all three shows and have them fight against Bill Cipher without Disney being involved in the project. I know all the shows had Easter Eggs from each other, if the rumors are true I am excited!!! ( I too miss Owl House and still want more )
I just have one question JUST ONE QUESTION for Disney if a show never fitted your quote unquote "brand" why the hell did you even pick it up in the first place when it was pitched to guys. That doesn't make any goddamn sense
@@rainbows_cyanide It's like, Disney, just admit you have no original ideas anymore. Everyone knows there's no heart to these movies, they're just capitalist cash-grabs. If they'd out and say it they might get less hate. (Maleficent and Cruella were good though)
It apparently was canceled due to executives feeling it no longer fit the Disney brand. The show’s audience and popularity tended to be older and they wanted a younger audience. Disney also prefers episodic shows where most the episodes have self-contained stories that don’t connect to a larger story, makes it easier for kids to be able to watch episodes in any order. The Owl House is a serialized show where the plot is more complex and having to watch each episode to understand which usually does better with older audiences which Disney felt didn’t fit their brand (even though they have plenty of other shows that fit this like Gravity Falls).
It breaks my heart what Disney did, because She-Ra SPOP was treated with dignity by Dreamworks till the end, also being an LGBT inclusive show. I do wonder what could have been.
I appreciated everything you had to say about the show, but I kinda hate the "what ruined" tagline. Like, I so wish we'd gotten more content and hadn't been canceled early, but far from 'ruined' its still one of the best shows around!
If Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace made their own streaming service for what they wanted to fully create, I would pay 100% for it to happen. Their true visions shouldn't be cut short because of Disney's ever changing and deplorable standards
Better yet, they should create their own Independent Animation studio during this Indie Animation Series Boom that we are currently experiencing. Danna and Alex have the motivation and motive to do so.
The show was amazing. Plus, the voice of Bill Cypher! It was so good it had to be stopped. It's odd that positive shows like this scare people, but shows with guns and violence doesn't.
Good timing by the way sir, nobody on YT was talking anymore about the show. I really needed another positive perspective on the show before I took my distances from the Internet after the next week.
Anything thats anti woke is complete brainrot. Like the new dragon age is out and everyone hates it why cause its dogshit and a step down from the other games . Except Asmongold and his grifter buddies they hate it cause there is minorities in it.
I sometimes wonder if they mean that Disney panders without putting their full heart or passion into it (not on the creators, it's usually the higher ups), so on one hand they look "woke" and therefore cool and accepting, but on the other hand, it doesn't come off as one bit genuine and it's clear that they don't give a toss about any of the groups they're chasing after. Their business plan is "appease EVERYONE, but also make it easy to cut out certain scenes for other countries so we'd still make bank" 😓
@@jessoliveiro8975 this is the exact problem with the sequel trilogy. And it not only makes the franchises worse, but it puts a target on the actors. But hey why should the executives care. They get money and good pr.
A big problem with Disney TV Animation is that anytime there is a change in management, they tend to cancel any projects approved by the previous regime to approve new shows they can take credit for. The recent cancellations of Hailey and Moongirl is another example in a year without any new replacements due to a freeze in new show orders
Does not help that there were board members that tried to do a stock takeover earlier this year to remove any POC and LGTBQ+ representation that was funded by a ex Marvel executive that tried to stop Captain Marvel and Black Panther from being made
The show is PEAK and the ending made me cry, but some TOH fans need to stop blaming other shows that doesn't have anything to do with. Especially Big City Green.
As much as I was bummed the show got canned I never had an intent to blame the other show that was ongoing, I get it that you're mad and upset but blaming the other cartoon that had NOTHING TO DO WITH TOH'S CANCELLATION WON'T MAKE YOU ANY BETTER
27:40 it's also shown that Hunter has been physically abused by the scar on his face. Also, this is most likely wrong, but grimwalkers are created by the blood of the original person/creature, so this made me think that Caleb is most likely rotting somewhere with his blood still being kept clean by Belos. Finally, I realized that Hunter is technically Eda and Liliths Great×5 grandfather since he is made of actual blood from Caleb.
I just want to say as an avid viewer of your channel - I'm really happy with how blunt you are about these issues in this video. It's greatly appreciated.
12:27-12:41 I'm so glad this show came out with such an amazing character like Luz. I was going to start high school soon, and I was already seen as weird, and part of it was my habits and likes and dislikes. So many people found me weird, and I was alone, especially because my friends and I started to go to different schools. But watching this show made me happy because it was like seeing Luz represent me (we are both Hispanic and have an L in our names). I just relate to Luz a ton and it was why she was my favorite character. In 2023, I found out that 4 hours away from me was a convention where I could meet the voice of Luz. So, on April 8th (The day the show ended), I met Sarah Nicole Robles. I thanked her for being a part of this show and for bringing playing my favorite character. I told her a bit about how the character of Luz and the show helped me to do more art (because I always loved art and Luz is an artist) and I showed her a piece of my art, told her that I'm learning animation, and she liked it. She even autographed it, and I took a picture with her. This show means a lot to me, and it sucks that the show was rushed. Also, at the convention where I met her, she said she was a big Steven Universe fan. She was star struck to meet Michaela Dietz. So, I told her "I was glad to hear her voice again. She's a shape shifter for Amythest, so she's a shape shifter for Vee." Sarah responded saying "Oh my gosh, I never even thought of that. You are absolutely right.
Am I the only one who thinks lilith would have just taken the secret to her grave if it didn't take her sister's execution to change her mind. Like how was she forgiven so easily. Then she mentally tortured eda for years by blaming her for everything that happened to them.
YES! I remember being SO DISAPPOINTED that she was shipped off 5 or less episodes FRESH INTO S2, to "resolve her mummy issues", and how Eda was written off to have a "bygones be bygones" approach to Lilith cursing her, when later, we learn Lilith had a BIG ROLE in why Eda's estranged from their dad, out of guilt for hurting him, but somehow at the same time, Eda is 100% FINE with sharing the same roof with the sister who cursed her?? 🙃
You know I may be your boring average straight white male but stories like this just break my heart. We are all just people at the end of the day, we are all human, why make it harder for each other? All the hate is just meaningless and putting people down just cause they are different is the lowest of petty. This show really told a great story so who cares if any of the characters are gay? Is it well written, is the animation decent, and are there good arcs? Thats all that should matter. Thank you for coming to my TED talk lol
truly a lovely video, i am beyond thankful for talented and hardworking creators who uplift this beloved show that is so near and dear to me and my younger siblings. it breaks my heart whenever my now 8yo sister and 11yo brother question me why disney cancelled the show..
The Owl House, despite everything Disney did to it, is and will forever be one of my favorite shows. We need more stories like this, and we need more companies and people to give such things a chance. I want the experience this show gave me. This is what I look for in stories. There simply is no replacement for the heart, passion and creativity of people truly dedicated to sharing a story, not preaching nor even telling, but sharing an experience. In sharing, it really doesn't matter who you are, where you came from or even how you identify because that experience connects us, even if it's fictional. The Owl House truly was a magical time and I hope we can get more of it, and more stories like it. Thank you Saberspark and team for sharing with us everything behind the story.
I do love that Alex Hirsch is so willing to help people who've worked with and for him. Not all of them great people, but he's helped a lot of people who do deserve it. I hope we get a blu ray or dvd. Not just for myself but one of my nieces Also i can never death of author Harry Potter. Shes made it impossible. I can do it with others but Rowling has always actively injected her politics and views into her properties, it just took longer for us to notice.
Gay shows don't sell....you're dealing with a Corporation...money is their bottom line and they have to deal with the money losses not the customer....you have to spend money to make money but those shows are not making money.
@@maxamillion2k7 The show consistently got good ratings and is one of the most praised shows Disney's had in the past few years. I highly doubt that this show didn't sell because it was gay, because it proved it could hold its own on multiple occasions. My question for Disney is if The Owl House didn't fit their brand, what was the whole point of making it in the first place? You had Dana and her team poured their heart and soul into making this amazing show and you axed it when it was getting good. If these companies keep crushing these hardworking people's hopes and dreams, they'll go bankrupt. Despite its short run, The Owl House was a wonderful experience and it will have a special place in my heart. Along with Hilda.
All we need now is a "Owl House spin-off series"and I think RUclips could be the best place for that. It will take time ( ALOT OF TIME ), but I know it would be worth the wait. 😊🦉🏠

I think Disney is just having the same issues most indutries have now: monopolization. They are bloated with nothing but greed, which destroys any sincere passion and quality.
Owl house is proof that shows like this can exist and do a good job. I'm actually pretty tired of shows that phone it in an use LGBTQ as the main pushing point, almost always for the show to suck ass and the creators to just be a-holes calling everyone as many rude names as they can for the show not working out. But Owl House was a good show based on everything I seen (Which was most, not all I will admit. We lost TV where I live and I got different streaming instead of disney to watch other shows I like) So i'd really like to see more shows like this and it's sad it didn't get to go for as long as it could have
Similar thing happened with Legend of Korra. That show was suppose to be a standalone of one season, but the executives at Nickelodeon wanted another season, and then two more, before halfway finishing season 2 they’d changed their minds and pulled the budget for Season 3 and 4, which explains why it was so rushed, and they added Korrasami at the end as a sort of fan pandering. Also, from one person’s review of The Owl House, He saw The Owl House ripping off plots from Gravity Falls.
5:45 I genuinely giggled at saberspark being so proud about pronouncing Luz correctly and then proceeding to misspronouce Camilla lmao (don't take it too hard though, It's not that bad. We appreciate the effort either way❤)

About Alex Hirsch's tweet about Disney's LGBTQ+ facade, I think it's really interesting to see how American exceptionalism is truly entrenched in _both_ the executives' decision to not express LGBTQ+ representation on said countries (though I'd argue there are many other Global South countries that the executives decided to delay or put heavy restrictions as in my case with Lightyear in Indonesia), as well as Hirsch picking Russia and China as examples of countries that are less accepting towards more progressive LGBTQ+ representation. We can talk all day about how obvious it is that Disney executives does not risk with LGBTQ+ representation in countries outside the West due to them not wanting to risk less revenue streams from said countries. But I do want to point out how the liberal progressive showrunners in the West may still fall into the exact same Western exceptionalist narrative that they _assume_ that these countries' cultures are backwards because of them still not being accepting of LGBTQ+ rights to begin with. We still need to address how actively LGBTQ+-phobic legislations in formerly colonized countries are mostly remnants of rules made by their European, Western colonizers to begin with, as well as the material conditions of developing countries (especially in the imperial periphery) that don't give them time and resource to properly reassess their relationships with their own queer community. We need to remember that despite what the Western narrative tells us, there are indeed marginalized LGBTQ+ communities in these developing countries that would be stoked when a representation of them are being proudly shown by these shows. My point is, is that in an ideal world, we would be showing these kinds of progressive shows to all countries without reprieve, without worry that there will be less revenue streams from those countries, without any assumption that their cultures are "backwards" because their lack of LGBTQ+ acceptance at the moment.
It is hard to sell an cartoon series that has LGBTQ+ elements in it. Espacially to countries like Russia and China. I have no idea what it's like in the LGBTQ+ community because I'm striaght. But I am a ally. And like to understand them better.
As someone who's gotten shade from people from other countries because my country's leader was an absolute POS, I think it's important to remember that we can't always blanket-judge a country and its people by their government and current leadership. There are many people who hate their despotic, bigoted, fanatical leaders as much as we do! Also, yes, many cultures are indeed sexist, homophobic, transphobic, racist, and xenophobic---but even in those cultures, you can find allies, forward-thinking people, and good-hearted people who are receptive to learning.
@@user-DLewis36 yeah, that is the main contradiction when it comes to showing LGBTQ+ shows outside of the Western countries. It's mostly motivated by capital, but we can't deny that there's some Western exceptionalist mindset behind it too (that only Western countries are LGBTQ+ friendly thus superior).
The simple answer is that Western countries are objectively better because of their acceptance, there can't be any cultural pluralism in cases where in one country you can freely express yourself and where youll get executed for simply existing

What did you all think about The Owl House? Was it done dirty by Disney?
Ok buddy
Yes. Disney did it dirty. Can you do a vid on what ruined Kids WB?
totes random. HEY SABER!! what type of headboard is that? is it like detached or some type of non-bed related shelf thing??
Yeah the Owl House had potential to tell so much more, but Disney treated it like trash.
True. Despite how Disney treated them, I thought the pacing in all three specials were great.

Disney actually admitted that cancelling The Owl House was a bad idea because of how popular it got. Man, really hope that Disney gives new shows a better shake when it comes to developing new IP.

-Filmed the Mulan remake near concentration camps.

I don’t know what’s sadder, Amphibia being the last Disney show that treated fairly by Disney or the fact the treatment by Disney we got was somehow still better than of the show was greenlit under Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network

Im not teying to be insulting, just pointing out that if the people who crave representation actually spent money, they’d get more of the content they claim they like.

Camilla Noceda is one of the best cartoon moms I've ever seen
Her and Ms. Boonchuy would be great friends.
Along with Johanna (Hilda's mom)
Well, at least he was honest.
Eisner? Sounds like something Eisner would say. On the one hand, good on him for saving Disney in the 80s - but on the other, what a piece of work he is.
@RakkothX That sounds right. I think it was the CEO so that would be Eisner. But it could have just been an executive.
Honestly, that's all corporations. Their only obligation is to make money.
Can we just talk all about just how pitch perfect Matthew Rhys’ performance as Belos is in this show?

Peak I am still mad they shortened season 3 into just 3 episodes
At least they were hour-long episodes, so in terms of run time technically it works out to be more like six normal length episodes... but that's still way less than it deserved.
Pretty sure Dana Terrence (the creator) said it was because the audience was skewing older and disney didn't like it
Weird example, but that reminds me of how Disney canned Fluppy Dogs (look it up) back in the 80s because the suits couldn't decide if it was a "boys' show" or a "girls' show." So stupid.
At this point, I'm convinced that Disney has become Anti-Love. Between canceling/not marketing animated things with LGBT+ elements and them not having any romance-driven arcs between the male and female leads (side character plots/parents don't count), they've clearly become allergic to the dreaded L-word.

Elemental was just last year & it was basically a gateway to rom-coms.
Dana and the crew deserve so much credit for what they’ve given us. They inspired my work and I’m thankful for it.

I heard rumors that the creators of Gravity Falls, Amphibia and Owl House are coming together to make a comic to crossover all three shows and have them fight against Bill Cipher without Disney being involved in the project.

Because the pitch bible disguised Luz and Amity as "good friends".
Because they needed a gay show to brag during Pride month.

A big problem with Disney TV Animation is that anytime there is a change in management, they tend to cancel any projects approved by the previous regime to approve new shows they can take credit for. The recent cancellations of Hailey and Moongirl is another example in a year without any new replacements due to a freeze in new show orders

27:40 it's also shown that Hunter has been physically abused by the scar on his face. Finally, I realized that Hunter is technically Eda and Liliths Great×5 grandfather since he is made of actual blood from Caleb.

I'm so glad this show came out with such an amazing character like Luz.

Similar thing happened with Legend of Korra. GOOD VIDEO, I love the kiss between Luz and Amity so much, it's such a BEAUTIFUL and ROMANTIC moment.
@@user-DLewis36it's straight up impossible to sell them in their countries without censoring it. Both counties ban LGBT portrayals
