I’m not a quilter and sew a mask is as far as I can go, but I really enjoyed your videos. This project is inspiring and seems uncomplicated, I may give it a go one day. You are a great teacher, Donna!
I can see making 2 of these. Leave one unbound and cut it into placemats. Add napkins made from more backing fabric and it is a terrific gift set for a housewarming, special birthday or holiday. That way, there is not a half a jelly roll left over.
I have so many quilts that I want to make and since you have shown us, my buying loyalty goes to you when purchasing material. I had a big order, but had to pay house insurance last month. So the end of this month I can purchase material. Thank you so much for sharing
I have been enjoying all of your tutorials. One of the tips I've enjoyed the most was using the weights. Genius! I'm teaching a 10 year old to sew and using that weight for her to hold the ruler down helps so much to keep fingers out of the way and control over the ruler. Thank you!
This would be a great project to use up my leftover strips from other jelly roll projects. I tend to mix two or three jelly rolls in one project, then use others in the sets for another project. (Did Daybreak with Grunge, Moda Classic Solids and Fuji Batiks combined with Not Quite White fabric quarters.) After the two quilts, there were strips I did not know what to do with so I grouped them in colors I liked together to make table runners, but still ended up a number of nice greens that this project would be perfect for. Thank you so much for this. I have friends who like the colors I don't that would love something like this because they like more modern things than I do since they are younger. (I am 66.) Some of them do not sew. Love the idea of using the reverse side when you want something plainer. I do this with my Christmas runners - pieced side for display during the season, but the plainer side that still has a nice Christmas print for Christmas dinner. You are so aewsome, Lady!
Me encanta todo el trabajo que hacés en conjunto con tu familia. Es una obra de arte!!! Genial estoy en la CDMX y sigo cada video que subes. Gracias por compartir lo que sabés...
I'm so glad I found your site! U have watched been watching vids for two hours and I still don't want to stop. Thanks for all the great ideas and tips you give. I will definitely be making one of these. Decisions, Decisions lol.
Buenos dias, magnífico trabajo el de hoy bien presentado y explicado ,el colorido de las telas muy bien conjuntadas en resumen es un placer verte trabajar ,un saludo desde Málaga España
Donna, Thank you very much for showing all of us viewers your fun and super quick way to make an abstract-style table-topper. Your tutorials are brilliant as well as inspirational - now I'm going to grab a jelly roll and start making one for MY table. BTW, I've recently bought a Shape Cut Plus ruler, which makes cutting strips of any widths so incredibly easy, fast and accurate. It may be worth you trying it...Hey, you know we're never to old to learn new tricks, eh! I'll keep watching your vids for more great ideas - cos I'm hooked! I'm so glad you remember me... lots of hugs from OZ! :)
This is the BEST quilt ever. I love the colors and the way they sit. Can you tell me how I would make a Cal. King quilt out of the same fabric? How much jelly rolls I must have? And do you have this material?????
We have a similar jelly roll here: jordanfabrics.com/products/hoffman-bali-batik-jelly-roll-2-1-2-inch-strip-set-jelly-roll-40-strips-cortez-2018 I am not exactly sure how I would do a king size, but you will need 4 or 5 jelly rolls.
Love your channel Donna, And Ladies I was thinking the same thing, if she made a quilt sandwich then when she got finished sewing it would already be quilted. Nice project though. Love the colors....great job Donna.
Naomi M, you don't need a long arm, especially for this because it's such a compact size. Drop your feed dogs and practice your free motion quilting, or just quilt straight lines! I love this topper...!
I was thinking that too, do a stitch and flip, with the 3 layers already together. Then just trim and bind. I actually do a FMQ stich that is diag lines like that, they criss cross a bit and it's really cool looking. It's great for a boy quilt, so it would look awesome on the back of this TT.
Going to try it. Livinnpjs, I have the Juki TL 2010Q. You are right. It is an amazing machine. I've made 2 table toppers, one quilt top and quilting another one. I can't find a thing wrong with it. It's fast and sturdy and a beautiful straight stitch. I've wasted a lot of money on other machines because I get side tracked by the bells and whistles when all I want is perfect 1/4 inch. I finally found it. Happy days!
А русские лоскутницы сделали бы два панно из этого количества.Ни за что бы не уложили такую красоту в два слоя. Очень красиво! Но сердце кровью обливается от такого расточительства.
Pellon lightweight fusible interfacing is what she ironed the fabric pieces on. The other white that goes between the top and backing is the quilt batting.
Jordan Fabrics sGreat job! You always amaze me. Keep up the good work. What kind and where did you get your snips and scissors? Thanks again! Jan Walker
I wonder too. Batiks are tightly woven so maybe not as badly? I wouldn't mind some fraying but giving it as a gift to someone who doesn't sew, that person might not understand fraying. Edited: Donna of Jordan Fabrics answered this question a few comments down. She said it was designed to fray and would fray unless you used Fraycheck, zig zag, or applique.
Your sewing machine fascinates me. What brand is it and does it have zig zag or blanket stitch or any others. It sounds as if it will take off and fly. Sometimes I expect to see it do just that. You sew fast too. I am too wobbly to sew fast. Maybe a little green eye monster has crept in. Tee hee I enjoy your videos. Really though ... tell us about your machine.
I like it but I don't think I'd try it, it's too wasteful of fabric, jelly rolls and fabric in general is really expensive in the UK, it can be £35 for a jelly roll here.
I like the idea and beauty of this project (thumbs up) but I can't help feeling all those beautiful batiks hiding in the layers ( thumbs down). I hope I can figure out a way to use this idea and not hide my expensive fabric.
It isn't a particularly efficient use of the strips, but the method does make a really solid and heavy weight runner. It could almost be used as a throw rug - except I don't want to walk on it!
Love this project. I think I would quilt as I sewed the strips down and maybe use some decorative stitches. Big fan of your tutorials.
I’m not a quilter and sew a mask is as far as I can go, but I really enjoyed your videos. This project is inspiring and seems uncomplicated, I may give it a go one day. You are a great teacher, Donna!
Donna, I just love to watch your videos. So much fun to see what you make and you make it easy enough to understand and do. Thank you :)
I can see making 2 of these. Leave one unbound and cut it into placemats. Add napkins made from more backing fabric and it is a terrific gift set for a housewarming, special birthday or holiday. That way, there is not a half a jelly roll left over.
It's just beautiful. Looks like a starry night picaso.
I love your old sewing machine! The heavy duty of it. All metal parts. Very impressed with the speed and power!
You're amazing! Gracias.

Great, fun, QUICK project, and using the 5 lb dumbell to hold the ruler is just brilliant!
You've got yourself another subscriber! Thanks!
+ Robin Luther - I think the 5-lb dumbell is a great idea too!
Dona, I love the perfection & the binding tips
How big is your interfacing?
Wow so beautiful
This is a cute table topper....good job, Donna,,thank you again.🌸🎶🌸🎶🌸🎶

I wish I had access to a long arm sewing machine.
I would LOVE to watch you cut out all the jelly rolls and package them.

Ha ha, I get so jealous every time I see you use your Gammill/Statler stitcher! It's a dream machine for sure!
What a lovely piece! I have to say, I love batiks, more than any other fabric - just beautiful. x

very much enjoy your easy to follow guides. would love to work
in your shop... would be heaven
REALLY NICE - thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you so much for sharing
Cut the strip diagonally from corner to opposite corner and you can get the same look using half the fabric.
Lindo trabalho!Parabéns!
So pretty!!!!
HELLO.THANK VERY MUCH TUTORIALS.
Can't wait to give it a go with all my lovely scraps, Thanks so much for the great tutorial. Jules in Australia
ooohhhhh. a scrappy one.....love it!!!!! I'm sure it will look awesome....cheers from canada!
I want to make this with placemats to match what do I need? I want the same colors that Jordan made.
Beautiful work! Neat and profesional!
Love your videos!! ❤❤❤
Que maravilha seus tecidos nunca vi nada igual .....é um sonho onde eu moro não tem nada parecido 👍❤️😍vcs são demais
could you make a twin size quilt using the same method
This seems so easy I would get two jelly rolls a make a quilt size and vary my stitches 3 to 5 different kinds and repeat. Thanks, Peace n luv, Jean
I would also love this as a quilt but would you still do the backing?
Yes Debi it will still need to be backed with your favorite solid cotton or flannel print. The options are limitless. Gr8 question thanks. Jean
Yes Debi a backing is needed a flannel or cotton. I would use solid to help show my stitches, the possibilities are endless. Gr8 question. Jean
Great video!
YOU ROCK!!
Beautiful

ADOREI, ficou maravilhoso !
Since you only use half of each strip, someone could make two and give the sister-runner to .... Well, their sister!
Love this! What a wonderful idea. This is going on my to do list :)
Beautifull❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
When you were sewing strips did you alternate up and down instead of sewing in one direction for all the strips so the top didn't go wonky?
Love your channel Donna, And Ladies I was thinking the same thing, if she made a quilt sandwich then when she got finished sewing it would already be quilted. Nice project though. Love the colors....great job Donna.

What about putting fusible web on the strips, then fusing to a base? Would the layers get too thick to quilt?
It might be too thick - I have not tried that method. A spray on adhesive might work too.
Beautiful table runner. Thanks for this video. What was the Pellon fusible interfacing? I don't recall hearing the product number.
Smy cuppa tea fast but efficient. Thank you
love it!!!
Great idea! But I don't have a long arm; would have loved to see it all done on a regular sewing machine.
You can easily quilt this size on a regular sewing machine. You can either stitch along some of the strips, or do an abstract design.
Naomi M, you don't need a long arm, especially for this because it's such a compact size. Drop your feed dogs and practice your free motion quilting, or just quilt straight lines! I love this topper...!
Can you do a full size quilt???
What size of fusible interfacing is needed?
Great video but I wish you had shown how to join the binding . That's where I always have trouble.
I have a binding video here: ruclips.net/video/dQgjp4Upt8w/видео.html
About how large was the finished piece? I'm wondering how large a piece on interfacing to start with?.
Trabalho maravilhoso!!
Hello, what the Width of your Interfacing please? 💚 Erica x
Great idea! Would it work if you sandwiched it and quilted while you stitched them on?
Joyce Burrill... I bet it would, the stitching would be really interesting.
I was thinking that too, do a stitch and flip, with the 3 layers already together. Then just trim and bind. I actually do a FMQ stich that is diag lines like that, they criss cross a bit and it's really cool looking. It's great for a boy quilt, so it would look awesome on the back of this TT.

Joyce Burrill Funny you say found the perfect qtr inch seam. lol I just said a couple of days ago the same thing about the Juki.
What is the # of the pellon fusible that you using for the topsy turvy?
Do you sell the fusing also?
Têm que traduzir esta melhor e um gênio
Gostaria q seus vídeos fossem traduzido para o português, gosto muito deles

Еще бы и сразу с синдепоном простегали 😂, раз все равно не сшивается, а пришивается 😊
What we called for that white piece of material?
Pellon lightweight fusible interfacing is what she ironed the fabric pieces on. The other white that goes between the top and backing is the quilt batting.
Can you do it on the method quilt as you go?
I was thinking the same thing, do a flip and sew method, it would encase the raw edges.
Yes, you can quilt as you go. You can also use fusible batting instead of interfacing.
Jordan Fabrics sGreat job! You always amaze me. Keep up the good work. What kind and where did you get your snips and scissors? Thanks again! Jan Walker
Lindo cuales son las medidas ancho y largo un abrazo desde mi Colombia
hermoso felicidades
Do the edges fray
A beautiful project but won't the seams unravel over time?
fray was the word i was looking for lol
I wonder too. Batiks are tightly woven so maybe not as badly? I wouldn't mind some fraying but giving it as a gift to someone who doesn't sew, that person might not understand fraying. Edited: Donna of Jordan Fabrics answered this question a few comments down. She said it was designed to fray and would fray unless you used Fraycheck, zig zag, or applique.

it won't fray?
If you don't use Fray Check or an applique or zig-zag stitch it will fray. I designed it on purpose to fray as it gets used.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
David
Did not like this method. I don't like leaving raw edges exposed. Guess that is why I don't do a lot of applique.
I don't care for raw edges either. You could satin stitch the edges instead of using a straight stitch. Nice opportunity to use decorative thread.
