I really appreciate the way you explain the little steps; cutting, pressing, binding on every project instead of saying "watch my other video". That sets you above the rest as an instructor. 💕
I'm making these as Christmas gifts for my daughter-in-law's sisters (2). Wish me luck!! This is a great tutorial and you make it look soooooo easy that I'm feeling like this will be a great success. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your gift.
As a beginner, I really appreciate “smaller” projects that help me master my skill and confidence! Plus I like these type of projects to make gifts with
Just finished the Williamsburg blue, log cabin table runner I bought from y'all in Dec. It's beautiful on our entry table. I need more projects. I'm awaiting some cancer treatments and sewing keeps my hands busy and my mind occupied. 👍😊🤸 thank you Donna!! You're a fabulous teacher.
Hello, I am not a Quilter 😋 but I can sew & I do like to make Household items 😁 I do not have Jelly Rolls & when I looked at these online to buy they were quite expensive 😮 but I do have some fabric 😁 & these Placemats are a Fabulous Idea! 💚 Thank you, Erica x
Donna Jordan, you just make every project look tantalizing! It almost forces me into my sewing room!! I LOVE your channel, you are such a strong inspiration, so, THANK YOU!!
Thank you for this. My mother-in-law is asking me for place mats and now I can do that for her. What a great method. Your set looks great! Love the jelly roll you used.
Awesome project!! Super easy! Thank you for the detailed instructions! I made a table runner and 8 placements for a friend with a new house. It took 2 Jelly Rolls with lots leftover, about 2 yards of backing and 1 yard and a strip for backing. I used what I had in my stash and only had to buy for the binding! I’ll send a picture!
Watching you sew reminds me of my late mother. During the 1930s and WWII she worked in various sewing factories. Your presser foot and speed are exactly the way she sewed. I learned to sew, but never mastered the speed. Your tutorials are excellent.
At first I thought, what a lot of work, I’m just making placemats! But then I saw how unique and lovely the end product -I’m all in! And these are a gift for some very special people!😍
Excellent video as always. Amazes me though that anyone could ever give you a thumbs down. (They must be jealous.) Your videos are the BEST in the quilting and sewing industry!!!
Самый высокочтимый профессионал на Ютубе, которого я встретила! Можно слушать без перевода и все понятно! Самые прекрасные изделия, ткани, сочетания и сильные идеи! Спасибо! Успехов в творчестве!!! Москва.
I have watched you make quilts, upset the longarm, binding and have learned so much and have used it on blocks. It has been a lot easier and my blocks have turned out really good
I loved watching you make these pretty, yet contemporary placemats. We could also make it from left over strips from our quilts. May have to add some of the background fabric or borders, too, to have it come together. Thanks loads!
You are so precise and have learned so many shortcuts to pass on. I made a set of placemats usi g your flip method and they turned out really nice using this method. Wish I was closer to take advantage of the beautiful fabrics.
I used to work in a sewing factory where we made Haggar slacks. And i remember the sound of your sewing machine. Love that sound. You do beautiful quilts and things. Love watching you! Kerp up the awesome videos!☺❤💜💙💛
Wow another super project. Just what I needed. Can’t thank you enough, your keeping busy in this horrible time we are all going through. Keep safe and healthy xx
I haven't sewn for 25 years and I was inspired by your tutorial and made this project - it was a great gift well received - your my favourite presenter - Jodie from Tamworth Australia
I love all your work. I still haven't used the jellyrolls I ordered. I'm looking for just the right pattern. So I don't mess up yaws wonderful fabric. Love the placemats and the table runner. Very Beautiful
Donna i absolutely adore this fabric. The place mats and table runner are so special for the season from using this fabric and also your wonderful creativity. Thank you so much for the great video showing us how to create these as well. Have a great weekend!!
I had been looking for a runner with this affect & wanted to know how to put it together. I should have known to check your site first. You always have the best tutorials. Thank you so very much Donna ❤
I am so glad I found your web site! LOVE YOUR RUclips videos!! I used to quilt everyday for about 10 years and then I seemed to slowly loose interest. You have inspired me with your videos to get started again and I just wanted say THANK YOU!! Having so much fun again!
Donna, thanks for this great tutorial. I made 4 placemats following this idea with 4th of July fabrics I had. They turned out nice and were so easy to make! I just need to finish up with the binding. Your instructions were great. I did the backing in a navy floral so that they can be used year round as well.
this is such a great idea, I am new to quilting and scared of binding. I have 3 quilts stacked up ready for binding and I'm just to scared to start. I am going to try this for practice to get started!
I heard of quilt as you go but never saw it till now. I like the idea of getting 4 placements and a table runner out of 1 jelly roll. If I do this I’ll make the rows even.
Oh thank you! Grest idea for wonderful tablemats, I can use all my scraps! (And being in lock down I guess I'll have time to make Christmas gifts in advance!) Grazie!
I am new to quilting and found your channel! OMGoodness, you are a God send! You are easy to listen to, you make everything easy to understand and I love the colors you pick. So, here is my question...are you looking to adopt?? I am 52yr old life-long crafter, married with a 21yr old son & 3 dogs! OR Will you marry me?!?!? :) I am so jealous of your quilt studio and knowledge! But am very thankful for you sharing that knowledge with us!! Keep the videos coming....I need to learn soooooo much!
I put the strips horizontally instead of vertically, and with a jelly roll I managed 8 place mats for a larger get together! I love your tutorials and watch each and every one of them (usually more than once lol)
Last winter after watching your videos I made some placemats with camping print for our motor home. They turned out so cute. It's hard to get over food spills on them. But I've had to suck it up. This year I'm gonna make placemats for Christmas. I found some print that wont show spills or stains so much, so I'll just have to deal with any gravy stains, becauae.of the fat content. I know, we make them to use them. But it's hard when they turn out so pretty. My very first table runner I made, the first thing my husband said was, " cool, I can't wait to spill chili on it." The fabric was a light peach color. Well needless to say, that one ended up hanging on the wall in my dining room, and I made one with a dark print and tacos on it, so he can spill to his hearts desire. Haha.
I really appreciate the way you explain the little steps; cutting, pressing, binding on every project instead of saying "watch my other video". That sets you above the rest as an instructor. 💕
I absolutely agree, this was a great video for me as a beginner, thankyou Donna.
I’m so happy to revisit this tutorial in time to start stitching for thanksgiving and Christmas gifts!
I’m watching again too. I have some really cute valentine fabric and I want to make my daughter a placemat for a surprise her.

For sure. Perfect project to practice with cheap fabric. If it turns out nice, use it or give it away. If it doesn’t, no sweat.
Thank you Donna! Another great project. I appreciate you not over complicating things. Leaves room for creative expression. 😊
