  • Easy instructions to make placemats or QAYG blocks for a quilt.
    Dimensions and yardage for four placemats:
    *five fabrics, 1/3-1/2 yard of each, cut into 2-1/2” strips. I trimmed as I went so I don’t have length dimensions.
    *2-1/2 yards of backing and binding fabric, cut into four pieces, 13”x18” each. Cut binding into 2-1/2” strips. I’m sorry I don’t know how long of a binding strip I had and I don’t figure it out mathematically. I usually just take the binding and loosely lay it around the item or placemat and times it four times to see about how much length I need.
    *four pieces of batting each cut to 13”x18”. I used a thin batting but use what you have or like. A great project to use up any batting scraps.
    *I used thread that matched my backing fabric.
    *I used my walking foot mostly on this project. It kept the fabric from moving a lot.

    I really appreciated the way you showed the mistake. I laughed out loud because I remember doing that myself on a different QAYG project.

      Side note to the story: the placemats were for my daughter’s boyfriend who had very few personal touches in his apartment. He had a few mismatched placemats. He loved the placemats I made and He’s now my son in law!

    Thank you for making this excellent video. Your placemats & choice of color/fabric is beautiful. I’m trying a similar project & am having trouble keeping my chevrons going straight on the line. What am I doing wrong?

    • @jerib1576
      @jerib1576  Год назад +1

      It's been awhile since I did that pattern but I remember that I had to keep moving the pieces to keep them in line. I did it gradually so it wouldn't be a drastic change. But mine moved also. I can't remember if I used the walking foot for that project but that might help also. I made those placemats for my daughter's then boyfriend who had a bachelor apartment wanted a more homier apartment. He's now my son in law. Lol.

      Thank you Jeri. Having the measurements always helps a lot for us beginners that are unsecured on how to start the projects.
      BTW, I loved the teal & grey qayg video and would like very much to see your “heart version” video. I read about it but have not been able to find it. Could you please help me with that? I would really appreciate it. Thank you. 🙏
