    OOOOooooOOOO you could make it reversable, one side Thanksgiving and the other Christmas. The same with Spring and Summer. Great tutorial.

    I guess you could use jelly roll strips, since the pieces are 2 1/2"? I have some Christmas fabrics that would make pretty placemats... Thank you, Misty for this awesome tutorial!

    I’m always shocked at the negative comments people make on these free videos! If you have half a grain of sense you could figure this out by following the pattern, Misty’s words and the video. Beautiful placemats, Misty and you did an awesome job! Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

      This is a wonderful use of the charms and the mini hexi ruler. Thank you for sharing. Nothing wrong with this video. I watch your video every Tuesday at some time.

      Thanks Misty... great idea for using the charms. Tip was good idea to cut charm in half first, then use the half hexi template.... wish there was a little more overhead camera work for initial steps to create the the braid. Love this placemat!!

    If you turn the template so the long side is in the middle, you cut it in half without having to use another ruler. More motion and time efficient.

    The half-hexi braids look so much nicer than the ones made with rectangular pieces; much more like an actual braid and not just a zig-zag. It's so easy, too; once you've stitched the first two pieces and wrapped your brain around the orientation, the rest is a breeze. This would be a great beginner project, since it's a simple technique with impressive results. I made a pair of braids to use as a backing for a table topper, and it turned out so pretty that I decided it was going to be the front, instead 🙂

    Thank you, Misty. I've always wanted to try the braid pattern. Good demonstration of the technique. I've never been quite sure how to best make a placemat since there are so many options of product to use. I liked the way you enclosed the bosal. The outcome looked very pretty.

    I loved doing my Christmas placemats like this. But I'm binding mine like the original tutorial. Great beginner project as it looks quite difficult with the half hexies but once you know... 😉

    I made two of these half-hexi braid placements earlier this summer in grey, lime green, and muted sherbet orange colors with a little yellow here and there. They came out great, and they were super easy. This is a great project, even for a noob like me.

    I think a self binding would have looked terrific too. Just cut the backing 1 inch wider all around then fold over twice and stitch down. Thankyou for a great tutorial.

    I love them Misty. I love working with bosal and I love the half-hexi braid. I'd like to make some in beach colours because it's summer here and we live by the sea. Great for the outdoor table when we are having a BBQ. I always love your presentations.

    FYI I like cutting Bosal 1/2” narrower (removing bulk in seam). Center & fuse it, then stitch….. you get a flatter edge.

      I would round my corners as, for me, it's easier to turn the fabric & I don't have to get fussy with the corners.

    One can always cut the Bosal 1/2” shorter in width and length and then you don’t have to deal with it in the seams and corners.

    If you sew the 1 1/2 “ strips end to end, you could then sew one to each side of the braids before you cut them into 15” segments. Less measuring and more accurate.

    What i love about all the tutorials is that I can see how the experts make things, and the pressing isn't perfect and the seams aren't 100%, but it turns out amazing! These give me more and more confidence to try new skills and I very much appreciate it. THANK YOU!!! ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
