Installing The Headliner In The Car Trek Maserati Was WAY HARDER Than I Thought! (Fixed With Glue!)

- As the last major piece of the Maserati's interior... This headliner didn't go down (up) without a fight!
I decided to fix the Car Trek Maserati's broken headliner in an unconventional way. Instead of using some sort of fiberglass patch kit, I opted to use a substance called Bondic. Bondic is an "As Seen On TV" adhesive that is intended for small repairs, so I figured it should work on a Maserati headliner right?
After the repair, I attempt to put the headliner back in the car. Turns out most of the interior needs to come out before thats possible. Good news though, it was already (mostly) out to begin with! During the struggle, I get a brief visit from @HooviesGarage

Hoover has a sensor in his head that alerts him when an automotive RUclips video is being shot anywhere in the greater Wichita area.
Nah. I’d say anywhere within the state of Kansas.
I cannot confirm or deny this.
...huh
@@100PercentJake Hoover knows !! Now where are the Buick vids ??
It only works when he's in Kansas, apparently. When Tyler was in California, he never popped into my shop while I was recording videos.
it looks a millions times better
I agree! It’s presentable now lol
@@ElliottAlvis *even though it's only a few minutes of schadenfreude for us, I KNOW that is was a LOT of miserable hours of hard work for you, and I want you to know that we appreciate your misery!*
@@willr69420 I’m glad you understand how much time went into this. It was difficult to show it all. But I’m glad it’s done!
I was lmao at the people who thought this headliner install was more important than your oil pressure gauge repair. FWIW great job on the stall. If you had to, you probably could have cut out a thin posterboard pattern of same size and shape as original, layer fiberglass or bondo, transfer retaining clips over or 3d print them, then transfer original leather over to your new headliner backing. Great job!
Yeah those people were cracking me up too lol. Good suggestion for an alternative fix though Brian. I appreciate it!
Whoever installed the stereo needs to market the fascia. Totally completes the installation!
Oh yeah, it’s pro stuff! 😂
I love it when Hoovie pops up on your channel. That being said, I am really enjoying your content. I cant wait to see what the only soft spoken notery public on youtube does this year.
Haha, I need to adjust my volume to be consistently louder apparently!
I'm blown away the light glue worked!!!! That's awesome
Right? It only took an industrial black light to penetrate lol
Elliott, your Maserati looks incredible! I really love all of that beautiful leather.
Thanks Mitchell! I love it too. Leather literally everywhere! It must’ve felt so premium back in 2003.
Next episode, Car Trek Maserati will get the Simple Green treatment on the entire car.
😂 I think I’ll save that for the FreeMW
Great move Elliot picking up this car because now I’m hooked on your channel. Good stuff so far! Love the Tyler cameo. As the Wizard stated a while back that guy is a genius even though he plays up the dumbest car channel thing. You’re channel is evolving. Can’t wait to see how it looks a year from now when you have 100k+ survivors.

Glad you’re enjoying it! There will be much more to come.
Cleaning the headliner before installing it might have been a good idea.
I considered it. But I was worried I was going to scuff it up more during installation. So I will just clean it where it is lol
Hey Elliott, what a royal pain in the butt to get that headliner installed!!! The interior looks like a million bucks now, great job!! Thanks to my favorite Notary Public for another fun video!!! 🙂
Thanks Christopher! I’m glad I got your seal of approval 😉
So glad to see someone taking care of that beauty!
Bravo Elliott!
That looks like it went 100 times better than I thought it would go congratulations that Maserati is looking amazing!
Thanks Garrison! It was a massive pain in the butt. But, it turned out super well.
I'm really glad that final pun made the cut!
lol of course dude, couldn't leave it out!
"I don't have a glue what I'm doing" could be your channel's catchphrase. :)
I was optimistic about the As Seen On TV Product... Another Great Vid! Keep up the hardwork.
Hoovie got me laughing 😂
Haha, good!
I always wondered who was recording the road shots for Tyler... nice!
Welp, now you know!
Elliot, you’re a braver man than I am. I would have gutted the entire interior, roll caged it and put a front splitter on the back and sent it as a track car 🤷🏻♂️
I honestly wanted to go that route at first. But I’m happy with the way it’s been turning out so far
An option would have been a 2-part epoxy with some filler. You could apply the epoxy just before installing the headliner, then once in place, the cure would happen in hopefully the proper position. However... Like you said, that floppy piece has its own retainer, so it's going to be just fine. Very nice work! Car looks so presentable now!
Thanks Paul! I had feeling the glue wouldn’t work, but I was still pretty impressed with the results. Especially considering it’s intended for much smaller applications.
@@ElliottAlvis I use that UV activated adhesive all the time for different things, including filling in window chips. It has some limitations. The adhesive itself is very strong, but it has poor adhesion to other things. If you shredded the edges of the fiberglass a little, it would have worked better.
Either way, your channel is getting more and more interesting, in part because of that car. Keep it up, man. You are definitely on your way to success here!
I can say I knew you way back when...
Looks like you had a glue of what you were doing with the headliner installed. Nice work and keep those dad jokes coming!
Haha, glad you appreciate the humor! Thanks for watching man.
I know you'll probably get 100 suggestions but with a crack like that, panel bond works good but also: find an old shirt or piece of fabric that is 100% polyester. Mix up some resin or even 5 min epoxy....glue your joint then lay the polyester cloth over the crack and make sure it is thoroughly soaked.
Why fibreglass is so strong is because the fibres interweave with each other. Kind of like how they put re-bar in concrete. When you apply the fabric across the break, you're re-installing these fibres across the break. Polyester resin works best as it's thin enough to soak into the fabric. AND? it sets in like 20 mins.......
That’s a great suggestion! I definitely should’ve done that.
@@ElliottAlvis The concept works for other things too, plastic bumpers etc. Pretty much anywhere you have a crack. (insert ass joke here lol)
You can pick up 100% polyester fabric at your local fabric store for like $3.00 a sq yd. Pick up a can of Fiberglass resin and next thing you know you'll be running around looking for things to repair lol.....
It doesn't work on plastics like Nylon or UHMW plastics that have an oily finish....
You can buy colorant for the resin as well so if you have a grey bumper, mix up some black and white dye until you get it close then apply the fabric to the inside and if you have any oozing out the crack, it won't be so noticeable.
Very nice another vid on the maserati
It’s coming along!
Can’t wait to see the clutch go in!
Me too Carl! Thanks for watching!
Spoilers didn't spoil it, everyone should be on the Facebook page Elliott Alvis PriusPosting, you get even more of our favorite Notary Republic car RUclipsr!
Heck yes! That’s the enthusiasm I need Ralph. Thank you lol
I used to used heavy duty Velcro to secure damaged or old headliners like this.
That’s a great idea Mike!
@@ElliottAlvis Maybe you could try JB Weld.
If the car thing doesn't work out maybe you can do videos about notary endeavors.
I'm loving your channel.

I see those M parallels 👍
Free BMW about to look like a...
Well
A free BMW but with nice wheels lol
Unfortunately they don’t fit! 😔 I want them on the car so badly though.
I can't believe the headline fit without removing the front seats 👍👍

I also can’t believe it. It was very close lol
What are the odds?
I just finished watching Hoovie's Countach video and was wondering who did the outside filming during the ride.
Question answered. Nice!
Ha! That’s fantastic. I’m glad I could answer that question for you 👍🏻
Really love the video and I am glad to see the maserati is starting to come together. I hope you continue making content because I believe you will be big if you continue. Keep up the good work
Thank you Hommy! I appreciate that very much!
Looks so much better!! Great job!!
Thanks mom!
Hey mom, be proud, you've got a great son!!!
Not only that he's a Notary Public 👍
It has made a really big improvement!
Love it
my dude! please, in the future protect your eyes whenever you are using UV lamp ;_; I'd hate for you to damage your eyes with it! (great job on Maserati, I'm far from being a car fan but your series is still very entertaining :) )
I knew that wasn’t going to work the minute you said UV cured inside a closed crack. Next time I suggest permabond with an instant catalyst activator. You would of glued it in 1 minute. Liking the progress 👍
Yep, I had my doubts. But I figured it was worth a try! Thanks for watching Marco!
Awesome video dude
Thanks Danies!
I love how Hoovie pops out of nowhere and asks what you're doing, he's not familiar with someone working on their own vehicle 😉
Also, no cleaning the headliner before installation? The tire mark memento going to stay? 😅
Super Glue with a spray activator works awesome. It gets in the cracks and cures super glue immediately!
Definitely should’ve tried that!
@@ElliottAlvis I get the activator at Hobby Lobby or other hobby stores.
That is a beautiful car. Nice job on it!
Thank you! It’s coming along nicely.
I’m glad Hoovie came after the UV light was put away, but also kind of disappointed 😆
Lol yes, I think we all know what direction he would’ve taken that 😂😂😂
This car looks so much better and yes you did get some good content out of keeping this car!

Thanks John! I appreciate you following along!
That must have felt as satisfying as a morning dump. Congrats.
Hahaha, yes, it was about on par with a morning poop in terms of satisfaction.

OMFG I’ve always wanted to know how was driving/shooting the rollers for him.
Lol well now you know!
It's called SMD sunflash it's for fixing fiberglass or just working with it. It uses uv rays from the sun to set in less than a minute look it up.
Nice! I’ll be sure to look it up.
Literally I was watching that Countach video thinking "I wonder if Elliott was the one filming these rolling shots" lol
Haha, yep! That was me! 😂
Man its awesome that the glue actually held!!
uhm but it didnt you know
@@giorgost3905 that stuff does NOT work

Great Value Hoovie got a Hoovie cameo.
One step closer to not being a car looked at with a crooked eyebrow!
Y'know, I actually did wonder if it wasn't Hoovie's wife doing the exterior shots. Nice to finally know. He needs to give you guys more credit... I mean, he did give you a $200 luxury car... and bought her like 2 SUVs, but still.
Lol 😂 he helps me out plenty. Doing rolling shots are the least I can do for him. I am happy to do them!
great vid, its come a long way since tavarish mess on car trek lol!
It’s sure coming along! A massive improvement since I first acquired it. That’s for sure lol
I was literally wondering this afternoon who does Hoovie’s rolling shots. Haha
The more you know! ⭐️
Happy Friday Elliott!
Thanks Sock! You too!
TIL Elliot’s camera setup is way way better than Hoovie’s.
And it’s not like it’s because Hoovie can’t afford one because he keeps buying hoopties Elliot’s hoopties are money pits too.
Well, in fairness, it’s Hoovie’s camera, I was just driving the car lol
you did a good job looks great.
Thanks Tom!
There was a lot of suspense to see if it held up. I think people are interested in just what you can do with the UV activated glues, and this would seem to be a natural application. It looks a lot better, but you have to wonder in time how bad it will stink. I need to go look at a bunch of Lexus 300 ES from the turn of the century and open the doors to see how they hold up and smell. Some of those all leather interior cars like the Infinity brand look like someone got in everyday with their back pockets full of knives.
Congratulations, it start to look like a car inside as well, just try to find the front speakers, so you will cover those 2 giant holes and probably you can listen music properly in case you get tired of the engine music, and then it will be a complete interior. But as you said is way better, enjoy it.
Yep. I need to get a couple of new speakers. I have them, they are just damaged. Thanks for watching Emil!
@@ElliottAlvis Is just my opinion: if you can cover the 2 holes just to look fine should be OK, even if they are not functional; in that car I don't think you need music, the engine takes care of that part. Thanks for taking the time to reply, have a nice day.
Hovvie, might of snorted all the good stuff out of the glue. 🤔 other than that it's looks great and you appreciate things much more when you do it yourself.
Haha, yeah he’s a silly goose. And you’re right, doing the work yourself is more rewarding!
Clean up that headliner at WatchJRgo place. he just cleaned up leather in the Lincoln that was nasty.
Yeah I saw! I need to clean the headliner for sure.
How dare oreillys not have those in stock! Im going to autozone now, they for sure have them
Should get something for the wheel and some speakers but looking amazing
Working on both!
You should drive it to Tavarish and show him it with a whole interior
That’s a great idea for when it’s done!
Brake check hoovie would be hilarious to catch his reaction on video because we all know hes recording too
Lmao 😂
That looked fun! lol
It was “fun” yes lol
i just came from watching hoovies new vid
Awesome! Glad my video got recommended after that! 😂
looks great :)
Thank you!
Never been to Flopsville, is that in Kansas or Missouri? Hoovie's occasional cameracar....cool gig, just make sure he doesn't ever say "Here, hold my beer"...cause that's when you know the lightning bolt is coming. So did your wife actually get in the car? LOL Oh yeah, isn't that headliner dirty?
Flopsville is actually in Ohio I think. And yes the headliner is still dirty. I didn’t want to clean it before putting it in because I thought it would get more scuffed during installation. But it’s alright, I’ll clean it where it is lol
OKAY! You used the Higher power UV light..
😂
Hi Elliot I like your videos. You deserve more views sir! I see you had many comments on the glue, but wanted to know why you chose it. You seem like the guy who does his research. Also why did choose not to clean the headliner on your workbench before you installed it? Hope you had a merry christmas and looking forward to watching the rest of your maserati videos
Yeah, i should have hit pause before trying to change clothes. Video was over before I made it back.
Oh darn. Next time!
a wild hoovie appears
He pops up in the strangest places!
Nice!
Thanks!
As someone in the shipping business for 22 years...the customer is responsible to ensure packing, so it arrives at its destination undamaged...however, IF UPS messed with the packing...I would assume to make it more cost effective for them to make it fit for a load...then they are responsible...and I would file a claim, which will trigger an investigation...and I can assure you they won’t want the bad press IF you were to push the matter. Bottom line, they can’t mess with a customers property.
Thank God for Fast FORWARD
Tell me about it. This video would’ve been 4 hours long otherwise.
I spotted your problem with getting the headliner in...Hoovie was nearby.
Haha, yes that was the problem!
You use all your Simple Green up on the FreeMW? Could have at least taken the tire mark off the headliner before installing it...
Thin butt-joints are no bueno for a UV cure adhesive. A little fabric across the crack and you'd have been golden.
Yeah I need to clean the headliner still! And UV cure adhesive definitely wasn’t the move. But I just wanted to give it a try lol
I really hope you reglued the headline leather to the board before you installed it as they are notorious for separating and drooping. My Gransport has this problem now and I need to take it out to have it reglued :(
I did my best!
Love the intro lol
Haha, thanks! Love your channel!
1:22 I see a hellish eye off to the left
Good eye! It’s going up on Cars and Bids next week!
That light will cure what ails you!!
I’m sure it will! The 50W light was no joke.
I belive that is UV glue, the same kind of glue they use to stick phone LCDs and digitizers together.
Yep! I believe you’re right.
You should get a 25 dollar dental curing light from amazon if u start using resins like this to bond. We use a similar blue light to cure composite resin fillings.
I am a dentist by the way. I dont use these cheap lights for dental work but they are much brighter then either uv light u were using. www.amazon.com/APHRODITE-Wireless-Cordless-Whitening-WAREHOUSE/dp/B0753ZR4CH/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=dental+curing+light&qid=1610153946&sprefix=dental+curing+light&sr=8-3
That’s a great suggestion! Thanks Art!
Maybe if you tried Simple Green....to get rid of Hoovie.
Ha! I’m sure that would’ve done the trick 😂
Hey Elliott, what's the Republic thing you say on the into? 👍
One layer of fiberglass cloth and resin would prob be all you need. Two layers should not be too thick if needed, but I am sure that takes away from content.
You’re right, that would’ve worked better. But I figured the Bondic was worth a try to make it interesting.
@@ElliottAlvis I agree. That stuff (UV activated bonding agent, not that brand specifically) is really cool. I have used it successfully on some plastics.
Can't wait for you to strip that wrap
But then it wont be recognizable as the Car Trek Maserati!
@@ElliottAlvis you have a point, sir
Looks way better, but what about the steering column? And some speakers? And the Rearview mirror?
So that glue stuff is not worth a crap.....Super glue & baking soda is the way to go....That is what the Army uses to fix chopper blades with that are shot up.....Car looks awesome now......Thanks
That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. Thanks Steve!
Those M Parallels should go on the FreeMW.
They came with the car! But unfortunately they don’t fit correctly.
@@ElliottAlvis damn. I've always liked the look of them
@@volvospeed850 me too
Take a tequila shot everytime elliott says Maserati!
Oof. Not a tequila guy, but that’s a tough challenge no matter what you’re drinking 😂
Now we know who films Tyler driving. I always suspected it was his wife.
It still is his wife a lot of the time. But lately I’ve had the pleasure of filming the last few.
Elliot and bondic...
How hard can it be !?
Lol right?! 😂
Should have skipped that dumb uv glue and used jb weld. Looks great inside now!
JB weld might’ve worked but I probably should’ve just put some aluminum straps on it lol
"Sometimes its me, sometimes its his Wife" OH GOD lol also I gotta ask why is it that under the wrap its a cranberry red, yet the headlights are yellow, did he switch them out?
The headlights have their own wrap, but the lining inside the headlight covers is also white. Normally those are body color, which would be the cranberry red.
@@ElliottAlvis So its white when it would normally be red, wrapped in yellow?
@@kavinskysmith4094 it’s a red car, that’s wrapped white. And the headlights have been colored white inside of the lens with a yellow film on the outside.
@@ElliottAlvis ah, funny how many steps there are with this, like your history as a notary republic has served you well lol
I think a couple of clamps, instead of holding it and trying to cure it, would’ve done the trick.
You’re probably right 😂
