Love the disapproving looks from the purists. There is soooo much more to life than knocking someone for improper lug nuts or incorrect headlamp bulbs. Fun fact, Apollo 911 could walk 90% of those other Porsche’s there. Gapping some by 5-10 car lengths or more. Fight me.
Given how often Carwizard goes nuts about keeping cars OEM. These comments are funny. I have never kept a vehicle stock. Apollo 911 shows that with clarity. Note most 914's are not stock given the part unavailability in relation to the 1968 Bosche Electronic fuel injection.
This is trolling in its highest possible form… the only thing better would have been to have Tyler show up in a “correct” Porsche and poo poo Apollo loudly.
and also practical, logical and needed, as the 996 era was notorous for bearing failure between 1996 and 2001, with not even the boxster being spared which hurts as I like the boxster and thought it was a damn good looking car back then, also its doubly insulting with the Ford as ford made the very first V8's, and now your putting in a derrivative, like atleast put a 289 in it.
A fried egg 996 with an American V8.......what's not to love? You should have taken a reliable backup car in case you need to, you know, leave in a hurry, say a Turbo Volvo wagon.....?
I’m a Porsche owner and I love the LS swapped cars. I’ll take a dirty driven car over a garage queen any day. I stopped attending PCA events because I got tired of hearing how much someone paid for this and that. It’s all about the fun you have.
Screw all of these overpriced pieces of foreign crap that are constantly breaking down, ill take an LS any day of the week. Although you would think that such an engine swap would be a tremendous upgrade but oddly enough these cars arent any better or faster than the original Porsche, so it kinds makes you wonder why you'd do all of that work and spend that money. After a lifetime of wrenching and doing everything car, i came to find that Porsche people are just a special kind of dickhead that definitely aren't my type of people and I'm not taking about these young rebel type guys, I'm talking about the stuffy old Doctor who thinks he shits strawberries, the word pompous comes to mind......and the dickhead that made him move proved my point, thank you😮
Porsche guys are like Harley guys....... Porsche hat, Porsche shirt, Porsche shoes, Porsche sunglasses, Porsche watch......LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! I drive a C7 Z06 and dont even own a Chevy "anything" tee shirt !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took my freshly-built 3.6L 914 to a Porsche show unannounced and they tried to throw me out (yes, the 3.6 was out of a 993). I told them to call a tow truck before they let it go. I own a Porsche resto shop and I absolutely hate those guys.
I'm not the biggest fan of the "LS-Swap everything because V8 motor" thing but honestly, with Apollo 911, it's the engineering that's gone into to make it as legit as possible. Spray the engine lid in body colour, take off the Apollo side trim and it looks like any old 996. Tyler and Wizard tried to make a genuine "Car Porsche never made" creation and that is cool in its own right.
You don’t LS swap everything because V8 lmao. You LS swap things because it’s CHEAP power, parts abundance, a lot of shit you can just go to a parts store and get, not to mention engine availability is ABSURDLY high.
Honestly I think you guys totally misinterpreted almost everyone at that show. The Porsche community is not at all like Ferrari types that freak out at mods. Porsche people have always been about modding their cars. Everything from hot rodded 964s, engine swapped 996/997s, Audi 5 cyl turbo swapped 944s, aero kits, RWB kits, AWD deletes, etc. In your own video, people were gathering around Apollo 911, talking about it, taking pictures of the LS2 swap, etc. Porsche people are some of the least snobby car people in existence. It’s a shame you didn’t talk to the folks looking at Apollo, I think you would’ve discovered praise and interest.
Purists? Seriously, I gotta call bullshit. One of our most involved and dedicated Porsche Club members runs an LS swapped 996 at our track days. Not only that, we include Mustangs, Corvettes, Tesla's, Subaru's, Lotus etc... as gear heads we welcome any and all guests that come out to work on driving a roadcourse.
Elliott, you should have talked to us. You marked me as “disapproval”, when I wanted to ask you questions. I was intrigued. Porschephiles are first and foremost car nuts. And most of those at the show have other cars besides Porsches.
Yep, that’s what I commented on as well. I like Elliott and Jake, but honestly they were way more close minded and judgmental than the people at the show. Porsche owners are well known for embracing modded cars!
Go park that thing next to the Boxsters...That was funny! It tells you what the Porsche people think about the Boxsters. Even the 914 got better attention than the Boxsters
That was hilarious! At least you didn't get a drink thrown in your face, or have someone vandalize the car. You'll find the snooty purists for everything, but at least nobody angrily confronted you...they probably went home and screamed into their pillow for an hour or two. Love seeing our favorite content creators hanging out together too!

I’m not getting the disapproval feeling…more like the “How the hell is that possible look” 😂. Or the “I also wanted to do that but thought it was impossible” look.
Funny to see the purists finally embrace the 996 :D I am not an LS-swap kinda guy, but I am definitely a do-what-you-like guy, so this is funny to me. There were nearly 180.000 996s, so there should be enough out there that not all of them need to be factory stock. My 996 is factory, more or less, but there are some personal touches too. IMO the 996 is the sweet spot of the entire 911 line. Modern enough to be truly competent, old school enough not to hold your hand via electronics while driving. Especially the early 996s with cable throttle are so pure and sweet.
Hello Mr Motary Notary, this looks like it was a fun event, especially seeing the reaction people had when they were checking out Apollo 911's engine bay!!! Great stuff!! Thanks for sharing your latest adventure!!! 👍👍🙂
LS1 911 is the most reliable car there... Porsche boxter engines are trash... Subaru WRX STi is a better engine and the 3.6r H6 is bullet proof compared to any Porsche H6 engines for the $$$$$$$$$ LOL
Back in the 1970's, Porsche Club of America (PCA) events specified the cars needed to have bodies and engines made by Porsche, so you could place a Porsche flat-6 in a 914, or put a 928's V8 in a 911, but they didn't want a Chevy powered 928, or a VW powered 356.
I stopped watching Hoovies because I can’t stand the way he repeats anything he hear or read online. Putting a v8 in a 911 is worse than putting one in a GN.
Would of been nice if you guys interviewed some of those ppl looking at the 911 and asked them their opinion of the car and the engine swap. Anyways, great video and nice to see you and Jake.
I took my extremely crappy Miata to the largest Porsche boxster event ever at the Petersen Automotive Museum. I made decals for the windshield and rear bumper that said "POORSCHE". My car turned more heads than the actual Porsche that won best in show. Anyone that didn't like it just ignored me, but the people that talked to me thought it was hilarious and loved the fact I was there. Maybe they approved because it wasn't a Porsche? I don't know...but it was hilarious.
Soooooooo my knee-jerk reaction was to lambast you guys for doing an LS swap when I suddenly remembered that RUF (the Porsche tuner) has actually put a 180 degree V8 in the RGT-8 You win this round...
Typical PORSCHE owners- 911s overated- Very snobby- When they have to replace the IMS bearing-Then they will get it. I had a 996 and got rid of it-Went back to C5s. The 5.7 is the best engine. Just as fast- more torque and lots less to repair.
This is a case of the slobs against the snobs sort of mix...How many folks could we piss off today...? I love it...!!! 😂 P.S. Does anyone here remember the movie "The Bachelor Party" with Tom Hanks; the scene where this guy gets his car back and his expression is, "shit, shit, shit, shit...!!!" 😂😅🤣 The Porsche that got punked in that movie would've been also hilarious to take to that show. Would've definitely got some disgusted looks there... Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Before the M96 engine (Boxsters and 911s from '97-'08), I would have never considered an LS engine in a Porsche, but now it seems obvious. The M96 engine is an absolute piece of junk.
I totally understand the Porsche guys who don't like a cheap Chevy engine in a 911. A Porsche engine is highly engineered (it has overhead cams, imagine that wonder of technology, Chevy guys!!) and to see it replaced by an old fashioned thing which could be straight out of a pickup truck... Hmmm. On the other hand I (=just me) like this engine swap.
You should make up one of sign boards that says, 250K miles, no IMS, RMS, AOS intermix, cylinder bore scoring or other catastrophic failures of the M96 with more power and less weight. Then see what the purists have to say.
There's a guy I used to know in New York that has a bmw M5 with a blown 572 chevy motor in it. He took it to a car show and someone tried to fight him 😂
Meh. I was at a race circuit in England at an event called the Gold Cup, for classic race cars from the '50s to the '90s. Touring cars & single seaters. Off circuit are lots of car clubs who put on displays. In the middle of nowhere I spotted a bloke sat in a deck chair next to a black 993 generation 911 Porsche. It was very tidy, but was running Rays alloy wheels, more often seen on JDM cars. The engine cover was open and it had a flat six with a belt driven Rootes supercharger on it. I got chatting to the guy in the chair, the owner, and he said that the Porsche Club UK refused to let him put it into their display. Too much snobbery in some classic car clubs.
Hey, I think that a Porsche deserves only a Porsche engine. An LS is a good engine but it doesn't belong in a Porsche. But I get it....COST. An LS is cheap and affordable and easy to get. Finding a healthy M996 to put back in the car is a lot harder and more expensive.
well darn, apparently i got unsubbed.. last upload i got to watch was the tire hauling vid with the volvo. man, gotta love when youtube workks 100% flawlessly... but on a bright side, this weekend ill have vids to binge. edit: MAAAAN the clown music during the clips of folks looking at the car was a perfect touch. reminds me of the 67 fastback on a honda chassis and all the folks raging at the car.. man, i hate how tribalism runs rampant in the car community.
I love making purists uncomfortable, especially by making a car or motorcycle more capable than it was stock. Kinda like they did with this Porsche......
I have a heavily modified 996 Turbo and Porsche Purists hate it, I experienced the same thing going to a few Porsche events and stopped going, now I just enjoy my car and don't show it off.
I’ve seen much cleaner and more factory looking LS swaps than that. Even a Porsche purist couldn’t really scoff at them too much. Willing to bet the LS twin turbo Porsche would take 95% or more of the Porsche in that garage as well as be much cheaper to repair.
Eehm you know the Porsche Dakar is a remake of the 80s Porsche 911s and 995 they actually took to Dakar right 😂 it’s not Porsche following the aftermarket
That isn’t the only blasphemy Porsche out there. Apparently it is not uncommon to swap a Honda K-series into a 996. The one I’ve seen on the booster boyz YT channel was turbo’s putting out about 1000+ hp
I had a 986 with 997 GT3 front end and was a member of Porsche Club GB. The leader pointedly lowered his camera every time my car drove past and shot every other car. I don't think he approved 😆
I love all Porsches. Not like they are perfect. They're just one of the best for the driver experience. So are LSs. I'm not offended by the pairing at all. It's based.
Love the disapproving looks from the purists. There is soooo much more to life than knocking someone for improper lug nuts or incorrect headlamp bulbs.

Haha! Oh well. Honestly, apollo should fit in if you take the corvette covers off. Given that Porsche had some v8s in their lineup over the years!
@carwizard great work on Hoovie’s 911 and thanks for building this one that he’s “yet” to blow up! 😂

They were just jealous that you were the only one not worried about the IMS bearing going bad on the way home
Haha good point!
As a porsche fan and proud owner of a 996 911, i loved that you did this.
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it.
They were merely trying to figure out how you could fit that much engine into that little space 😂.
Certainly true for some of them!
Some people were probably amazed this was LS swapped. They were wondering the cost and time it took to convert it.
I love how disappointed those purists were.
barely any of them cared, more intrigued
I'm sure Jake was giddy with excitement over the idea of pissing off Porsche people lol. Not backing in was a great move! *visible disgust*... hahaha
Haha yeah, Jake loved it for sure
Fun!! In my opinion, that was nowhere near as blasphemous as seeing Model As with a chevy V8 in them.
Ah, yeah I never even thought about how brutal seeing ruined Model A’s must be for you!
and also practical, logical and needed, as the 996 era was notorous for bearing failure between 1996 and 2001, with not even the boxster being spared

You should have put the original 40hp 1.2 liter air cooled engine instead. The one that actually belongs there..
As soon as they asked you to move it I would have left very slowly while revving it a bunch
Funny, the P hat, P shirt, probably P socks and P underwear with a P cars only parking sign at home 😂😂😂😂😂
Even the Porsche labrador "Pooche" was trying to get away from it.
I love all Porsches.
Not like they are perfect. They're just one of the best for the driver experience. So are LSs.
I'm not offended by the pairing at all. It's based.
Fun video! Of course WC means water closet. :)
