Solution for the impracticality problem you mentioned: Buy adapter for EVERY lens and just keep them on there, add a little piece of tape to prevent accidental level changing. Sounds expensive but it's still more affordable than a proper single dedicated anamorphic lens by far. And you get to keep the modularity
Glad you liked the video! It definitely can be an alternative, but like I said, it depends on your workflow and how much time you have on set. Looks sweeeeet though
Thanks, really thorough review - I've been considering this or the Sirui 1.25x anamorphic adapters and this has given me the best overview of the Laowa adapter in use. Particularly useful is the impracticality of changing lenses very often. This makes me think that the best use case by far for these adapters are zoom lenses, except for the weight of the rig of course. Whilst I love the look, and I think this is a very well engineered product, I'm now having second thoughts due to the practicality of changing lenses on a shoot... appreciate the insights.
I know it is a lot more work but would've liked to see more sample shots with the adapter. Especially on the longer 85mm. But it is still a good ana adapter explainer video.
@@kaichuuuuuu thank you! Would like to see more on the tighter focal lengths and hopefully exterior shots so we can see the bokeh. That's just my wish list.
I noticed in different comparisons between anamorphic adapters, this one has some of the least chromatic aberrations and looked very pleasing. I guess my question is it worth the $699 price tag for the features? Or should I just go for something like the sirui anamorphic adapter?
I am under the impression that the front element does not move when focusing the adapter. Is this the case? Also I need one more bit of info what was the clear image zoom value? On your site you say you have an fx3, so I assume you used that camera. With the CIZ value I can determine the all important image height, that will make your video the most important one I have seen to date. ❤
My bad I missed the crop factor with the 31mm. That’s 40mm 16x9 FF fov equiv. ,amazing. Stationary front element double amazing. Again best video out there on this adapter, thank you
This is a BAD REVIEW. The adapter has got a MOUNT WITH 2 SCREWS. You are supposed to MOUNT THE ADAPTER TIGHT WITH 2 SCREWS ON TOP OF THE 2 RODS. You messed up, and blamed the adapter
Fair enough on a physical feature I did miss. Though I am highly disappointed by how the "incorrect" installation method, detailed EXACTLY AS IN LAOWA'S OWN INSTALLATION VIDEO negates the rest of the details of build quality, included accessories, image characteristics, flares, etc. Thank you for the comment and engagement
Hands down best review on this adapter i've seen so far. Actually, best overall review I've seen this year so far. Super informative and entertaining

Thanks! Haven’t seen many people talking about this, but looks like a good alternative to a full set of anamorphic lenses

👊🏾 Awesome entertaining review, thanks for reviewing this, super helpful. I've just started on my review

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely in my list to make a follow-up with a lot more footage

@@kaichuuuuuu thanks for the amazing work! Would be great to see more samples especially in combination with helios.
No one answered your question? Favorite snack are Mexican Street Corn chips.
That's a new one to try out :)

Front element does not move and zoom values are all in the video

How’s the sharpness wide open with adapter?
