I've been shooting for nearly 20 years and this is definitely one of the most exciting times in photography that I've experienced, with a vast selection of really incredible and affordable third party (AF) lenses, and now anamorphic cine lenses being added to that list. It really feels like a democratization of the art form.
Sirui also has an AF anamorphic released, not sure this is the first. That lens is also APS-C (although purportedly pretty much covers a FF sensor), I don’t understand why they didn’t make FF lenses first. Maybe grab the Sirui and do a comparison? And then interview the lens manufacturers to see why they didn’t go FF first- cost, design, weight, etc.?
Another great video, i've recently purchased a Fujifilm T3 (with the 18-55) in great condition fro £600. Can't wait to get started. Also, I love your ultrawide videos. I have an OLED 21:9 monitor and it fits perfectly.
Hi, in what format was the renderer of this video that shows full screen on the phone ? Other anamorphic optics videos show square on the phone ? What settings should be set in the program to get such an image after shooting ? I want to buy such a lens!). What focal length does that turn out to be on the FX 30? 75 mm or 52 mm ?
I currently have a Blazar Remus 65mm, and im not sure if i should buy this or wait for the 35mm to come out then purchase it. Anyone have any suggestions? I could decide selling my remus and purchasing an alternative but i feel like the remus and the apex all have distinct looks that I may put to in different scenarios
As a former user of Viltrox 56mm 1.4 which has declicked manual aperture control I can say: this is pure evil. I was really hyped up due this release until this fact. They need to do something with it imo
@@Schxndr apsc’s only real weakness in high iso performance (in comparison to ff) and depth of field. These days apsc cameras can give great results up to at least 1600 ISO and we even have affordable f/1.2 primes from Viltrox now.
So excited about this lens So many people not realizing you can get enhanced characteristics along with autofocus in full frame mode lol Anyway Really hoping it comes to the Canon RF mount 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I don't get why the negativity to this lens for being Super35/APSC lens. I mean this lens is more intended for video/cinematography works, you can choose different cameras that can outperformed some FF cameras for that matter. From EOS C70, Komodo-X, Alexa 35, even FX-30 or Fuji X-H2S are pretty decent. Everything depends on your budget.
Recently watched a YT video where the anamorphic effect was created (copied, mimicked) in DaVincei Resolve using a basic wide anglel lens and video clip. The pure hobbyist could likely get 95% same result with creative editing and save the $800.
People keep calling this the first Anamorphic with AF… but didn’t Sirui release their 40mm t/1.8 a few days prior? Don’t get me wrong, I think I like the Blazar more, but it’s weird to hear that at the opening of every video when it’s officially launching weeks after the Sirui. 😅
At least Tom does still sometimes buy quirky gear he's interested in and makes videos about it, and hasn't entirely turned to just shilling products sent to him for free, but I do worry he'll end up going too far down that path that has ruined so many RUclipsrs.

It's true! We wanted to design a lens with a sensor-friendly 1.33x squeeze without sacrificing the anamorphic character that our users have come to love from our previous lenses! That's why we've designed the barrel distortion to look like it has a 1.5x squeeze 🔥
Pre-ordered both Blazar and Sirui. Can't wait to make some sick stray cat videos.

Always nice to have an addition to L mount, would love to use this on my S5 but its far too expensive, but so are a lot of L mount lenses
@@b0bcat210 $799 is honestly very affordable for this kind of lens. Hell, Panasonic's own 1.8 primes came in around the same price RRP.

The LUMIX s5ii with this lens would create magic the desqeeze option is on the s5ii is next level
What is this option? Is it when you can select anamorphic mode in the camera monitor ?
In contrast to the Sirui, this actually look at least a bit anamorphic.
BTW the ghosting / veiling look beautiful. Also: Nice Bronco.
Sirui came out with a AF 40mm Anamorphic lens this will be interesting to compare against that
I wouldn't say it's a game changer until either of these companies begin releasing the full-frame versions. That will change things.
6:42 im here to watch more of THIS than the lens itself
I appreciate you
This lens looks bangin. Also cool to see Bragg Creek so snowy ❄

If its a super 35 lens why not use it on one of your APS-C cameras that maybe have de-squeeze? why use the A7CII if its really not suited for this?
Sirui is coming out with a 40mm full frame auto focus lens later this month. But my concern is how does it auto focus a squeezed image????
That Sirui is also aps-c… no full frame autofocus anamorphic exists yet
Fantastic work! Such a unique lens 😭 nice bronco btw
Thanks dude! Unfortunately it's not my Bronco, but such a beast!
Cracking video, Tom! I’m looking to get into the anamorphic game myself.
what about Sirui Autofocus Anamorphic Lens?
Wonderful video - as always! This combination of information and fun ist just fantastic! 🙂
Will it come in L-Mount?
it should be released on L mount after this E-mount version, only Lumix cameras support anamorphic mode along with FX line from sony
i was amazed by the film in which the cinetographer uses a lot distortions, anamorphic or not!
Tom pls make a portrait photoshoot video with that lens!
