As a designer, I have to say that no body looks good in everything, not even skinny models. I can immediately sense when a silhouette or style is not maximizing their essence. Also, almost all the images you see are highly edited to make it work. Lastly, I agree that some people in the industry have very limited ideas of what is “fashionable”.

Yes. It seems like the seasonal trends are often catering towards ‘natural types’ or ‘classic types’ or ‘dramatics’ - and even though it’s marketed to everyone- it’s not really for everyone- or at least, these seasonal fashions are stretched very far to accommodate body types that don’t easily jive with the fashions on trend. It’s where the fashion world seems to ignore those intuitive categories. What works for one person, doesn’t work for another. It would be nice if designers and fashion trends were less robust. It would be nice if all different styles were always available and on trend. There are sometimes ways to adapt things now and then- but if all the clothing is for one style - it excludes the folks outside of that target audience… till the next season… or next season…
This could be a new way to design clothing for all body types...in store displays could define the body type styles etc....anyone could shop from any body style rack...but if a person knows their body type...can go directly to that display....rather than searching in between clothing on one rack?....imo
I FINALLY got it. About a year ago we adopted a dog because her owner was hospitalized for months with Covid. We already have a Labrador. The new baby is a German Shepherd/Labrador mix. She has a very sharp body shape, and the Lab is very rounded. Finally it clicked in my head! Thank you for all of your great videos!
I love how you talked about the emotions attached to aesthetic… the Balenciaga style fashion pictures you showed were so ugly and “apathetic” was just right! Apathetic and sad. I don’t ever want to dress apathetic and sad when I could dress happy!
My daughter and I are both hourglass. However, she is SN, and I am SC. We have totally different styles that suits us the best. We look so much alike and no other system can set us apart but Kibbe.
Thanks for the video! I super agree with what you are saying around @2:26. A lot of stylists have a great intuition and understanding of how to dress people head to toe. It's as if, in their head, they can see each person's individual essence without typing it into any category. And so, they don't think body typing is helpful at all and only constraining. But for people who don't have years of fashion and styling experience, I think the types can be a super helpful starting place. :)
I have to say Thank You, Aly! Trying to learn about Kibbe’s body typing system is not easy. You helped me the most with figuring out the ideas of proportion, yin vs. yang, size of bones, amount of flesh, length of limbs and PRECEIVED HEIGHT. (Actual height is apparently not as important!) I’ve watch other RUclipsrs get frustrated with Kibbe and decide to come up with their own definitions, quantifiers and systems, which seem even more confusing and more about style aesthetics/“essence”. I don’t think I would trust or hire a stylist who wasn’t interested in my body type or my specific coloring. I’d wonder if their motivation was to make me look my best or promote themselves as an avant-garde fashion guru! Or trying to be connected with the top named designers! We all remember the worst dressed on the red carpets when stylists fail to promote their clients over the clothes. Most of us just want to look the best we can in clothes that compliment our bodies and make us feel confident and relaxed with our outfits. Thanks again for all your hard work to make this easier for us!💋💋
I could not agree more :) As a fashion designer I think Kibbe is extremely helpful. It doesn’t make sense to rely merely on intuition when designing or putting an outfit together, even if you have freedom and ‘vision’. Clothes aren’t just artpieces, they have to sit well on the body and you should be inclusive. If you’re experienced and have a trained eye, you may not need to understand body types, but you should have internalized the same general guidelines by trial and error
Clothing, hair color, makeup. I love it all! You are just the best makeup-woman on RUclips. Because you work on your features in a smart way and not by applying layers upon layers of products. You really have an eye for detail and smart ways to enhance or tone down traits. You also show respect for the diversity of women. I am a fan. Greetings from Denmark
Thanks Ali. I was one of kibbes make overs that ended up clownish. He told me Romantic but I am not petite and I’m now glam so 1950’s pin up and dynasty style dressing felt so awful on me . I live a very casual lifestyle but just wanted to look nice for my age and not silly.
Could not agree more with you!!!! Phenomenal video!!!!! There is a stylist that puts everyone in the darn blazer....some of his clients are just drowning in it.....so odd
That was some of the best constructive criticism I've ever heard. About that designer who does the huge, unisex aesthetic. It respects the artist having found their artistry while also pointing out how narrow and limiting it is. I also like the part about how some women just want clothes that fit with them without drawing too much attention. There's a certain respect Aly has for people I appreciate! It feels about wanting people to feel themselves and good in their skin. Not to be a statement that's about the clothes but disconnected from who they are.
I would love for you to look into Japanese (non-subculture) styling and talk about it. Since I moved here I struggle so much, because all that I learned about styling is turned on its head. The desirable proportions are all diferent, and the way of dressing is all different too. I feel so insecure because what I love is seen as ugly and vulgar here.
As a professional stylist and image consultant, I agree on many stylists don't like seasonal colour analysis and body typing because it's a little tricky to type one person in a particular category. But when I style my clients I always use kibbe body typing, essence, seasonal colour analysis, personality typing etc because dressing up with perfection is not just about body type or colours but it's a combination of personality, body type, colours, essence and many more aspects. It's a myth that one body type ( kibbe ) can't wear another body type clothing because of different lines, we all have our own romantic, dramatic, office, date, casual style. Not to forget there a ladies who know their kibbe body type still they love dressing very different from what it is recommended reason? Their personality is different and they feel at home, a perfect representation of themselves in those dresses.
Watching the video again, it's so good. What I could share from my lifelong search why some things look different on me than others. About the waspish waist relates more to how the curve of your hips is rather than how tiny is your waist. If your hips are widest at the top looks different to your hips being widest by the thighs or in the middle between. That is just additional thing on top of Kibbe I need to consider when choosing a skirt or shorts. Not every R will have certain shape of hips, however within the type you'll see a lot of examples of "waspish". How full your behind is will also influence overall look.
Got my makeup done professionally for my prom and it look so awful. I went home crying because never in my life have I felt so ugly. It didn't suit my face, my style, essence or overall emotion. Completely horrible. My mother was so angry and sad, I think her heart broke a little. I wish I let her do my makeup. I removed it and applied my own makeup with the basic toddler-like skills and knowledge that I had. I think I only used mascara, a teeny tiny bit of eyeshadow and some colour on the lips - completely understated and still didn't really fit the occasion, but it felt a lot more natural on me. I rarely wear makeup so heavy looks do intimidate me as I'm not used to seeing myself like that, but a friend of mine always did a great job when doing my makeup. I don't know why professional stylists can call themselves that when they don't even understand body types, colours and essences of different people.
I think that a professional stylist should at least know body types and colour analysis. Whether or not she or he finds them useful, it's up to her or him, but should be oriented.
The old Hollywood stylists show how well they knew bodies and worked so intuitively and were so knowledgeable. Stylists today perhaps want to project the idea that its thwirbpersianl taste and talent that allows them to get good results. Ego maybe.
@@HumanimalChannel I completely agree. I think they were very intuitive about the personal essence od each old Hollywood star. That's why you can distiguish Marylin Monroe from Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn. They were very different from each other, yet they had class and were stylish. Nowadays it is rare to say that a given stars has a personal style. They usually follow the trends or are submissive to the vision of a stylist, and it does not really matter whether it really suits them or not.
When you started years ago on U tube, ❤️❤️❤️ I learned I was a Soft Classic. Made my clothes buying so much easier, and saved me lots of money and frustration, and I know what looks good on me (and why) ❤️❤️❤️!!!

I used to get so tickled watching Clinton Kelly and Stacy London, because they would disparage color analysis, but Summer Clinton always wore Summer colors and Winter Stacy almost always wore Winter colors.
I can understand how stylists would dislike it, because it can be limiting when you’re wanting to be creative, but as a normal peasant, I love it. Lolol. It helps me train my eye not just on general colors, but to determine color temperature within shades. Stylists may not like it, but us regular people could benefit from it.
I am guessing us SN that are petite are one of the most unusual types. The fact we are so short but not small, even when you are slender you look large so it’s very confusing. I go to a store and they assume that I am a 2 in size but I can be even a 6 in pants and they are surprised when they realize I am much more wide they thought. I also had an experience with a stylist trying to dress me more glamorous or classic and it definitely doesn’t work at all. Put me some sporty look and I am in my element.
Thank you for this. I've had some difficulty deciding on a type and this has helped immensely. I'm the opposite. Very narrow, and voluptuous, no matter the weight, but I have more classic shoulders. Which in comparison to my extreme narrowness can appear broad. I kept thinking I must be a SN but I look good awful in all manner of natural clothing: Like, I've come undone at the seems. This helped me realize that my kibble type should look very natural for me.
Hi Aly, I have an unusually small rib cage (flat chest) and head in comparison to the width of my shoulders and hips that gives my body a long vertical line and a straight torso/waist but a curve waist/hip. This made it very difficult to place myself in the Kibbie system as I’m a moderate 5ft 4 height and everything about me is on a small scale. After very in depth study of all the body types I’ve finally settled on Flamboyant Natural thanks to your curvy Flamboyant Natural video. I recognised my body and features instantly unlike doing the test that had me all confused. The fact that I have a long vertical line due to my small head, elongated torso and limbs and width in my shoulders and hips makes me feel at home with the Flamboyant Natural. My face has blunt structure and width although my eyes and nose have some narrowness. I probably have a few more dramatic elements to my look than the text book FN but overall the Natural in me wins through. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, it would be great to know what you think as there’s always an element of doubt in my mind.
Looking at the Kinbe system; it makes very clear what a type is NOT. Therefore you are less likely miscast yourself. Also I find the mention of how and where you gain weight to be so right and helpful in casting your type. SO happy I came upon this. thank you!
I love this so much. You’re great at explaining the body frames and shapes and I find it very helpful so thank you! My area of expertise is definitely Color Analysis 🥰
Aly, you are SO insightful and talented! I agree about the comments on the fashion designer re: the "Ballenciaga" niche. Agreed, that is self limiting.
Hi Aly :D Great video as usual! Could you make a video where you talk about how you can break the rules in a way that works? You have repeatedly said that the Olsen twins "know what they are doing." I would be thrilled if you could dive deeper into that. Greetings from Germany.
I would love to see Aly make an analysis of Celine Dions looks. Its a combination of very expensive looking + having maximum fun + f-- this, it looks outrageous but i will wear it anyway.
Personally, I love to dress simply with no fuss, but full of interesting textures, colors, and unique accessories. Also wish I didn't care too much about showing too much of my less-than-perfect body parts, especially after menopause and pandemic stress changed my normally very fit shape. It takes forever to get dressed just like I want to--slightly on trend, yet understand and inexpensive, not trying too hard. Online shopping has been very disappointing and too addictive.
14:00 - 14:44 ! 👌 love this, this is why you are great thank you for cutting through to the core of the aesthetic and calling out it’s impact on the psyche!
Stylists are only human - it's entirely possible to learn to style YOURSELF, your own self, better than any venerable professional could. The prime example is Ms Dita Von Teese, she has never had a stylist and has no need of one. She said that once fairly early in her fame she bowed to pressure (it's the "done thing") and decided to try working with a stylist. Apparently the woman picked up a pair of her vintage heels and said "these would be so cute with jeans!" and Dita showed her the door and never looked back! You can craft your own image and curate and protect it better than a stranger could - that's basically the idea if you lean all in to Kibbe, you learn how to live fully in your Image ID.
Kibbe lover❤
Hello Aly! Just to say that I love your content! And it’s really tricky to find our essence… I already saw a lot of your videos, they are excellent but still I’m so confused about my body type. I made the test and analyze myself and the result is always soft classic… what happen is that I don’t identify myself in that essence… is that normal? Can I send you a photo for you to help me? Thank you for your time, regards from Portugal ☺️
For example I’m pure romantic but without hourglass . It’s all about the vibe the tendency. But I couldn’t figure it out alone I needed professional help. For my the kibbe system ist the best

Hi. At first I just wanted to say that you are amazing. Your knowledge and approach to the topic is unique. I would like to ask if there is a chance to help me determine my Kibbe type? P.I've been trying to do it for two months now and I'm no closer. All I know is that it oscillates around classic somewhere.
I am a soft autumn and soft natural. None of those colours and patterns really look good on me. I look better with deeper shades and less feminine outfits. Spent 2 years investigating myself through these two lenses but the result is still disappointing.
Great video! Do you do kibbe typing? As in, if I send you a pic can you help me figure out what type I fit into? I posted on Reddit in a kibbe group several months ago and never got a response. I have no clue what I am 🤷🏻♀️
I think Billie Eilish’s Met stylist did her a huge disservice. In my opinion this is a situation where it was all about the clothes and not about what would look best on Billie. It’s really didn’t fit her body or personality it all. This is just one example of what you’re talking about.
The thing about stylists taking the tall moderate model-ish women. I see that a lot in a make up artists work. So many pretty faces with huge eyes, small nose and huge lips. Of course the make up is going to look great. what I want to see them to work on for example on hooded eyes and do the same look on them. so shame
Is it possible to be a cool-clear (winter) colour type with grey/green eyes? I have muted green eyes but clear coloured hair and skin, is it possible to have a combination?
What I also feel is that a lot of stylists use old information and don't translate it for today's clothing standards, so the clients tend to look very old. I seen this show with a teenage girl from Germany who was self conscious about her looks and the stylist transformed her into a Karen. They gave her a pixie cut and the clothes were very long and big. She looked in my opinion horrible.
I could agree and comment on almost every sentence! Those who hate color analysis usually love black even if it's horrible on them. Depending on black is just easy - and sometimes feels necessary. The crazy fashion world is fast-paced and shallow. IMHO the obsession w Flamboyant Natural is yet another way to snub traditional femininity. Now who would do that?! The crazy art world? For starters Modern Art's roots are in the communist movements of 1900s-1930s. it's DESIGNED to depress and demoralize - compared to Trad Western Art that inspires and uplifts. Jackson Pollack - a fraud who slung paint on a canvas - laughed all the way to the bank. Pablo Picasso - the most talented artist of the 20th C imho - was a brilliant sketch artist. He's often profiled as having "evolved" into cubism (speaking of ugly art!). But in fact he had a cycle of relationships w women. In the beginning he sketched them as beautiful madonna-like figures. As relationship fell apart he painted them in ugly cubist style. Picasso didn't evolve - he expressed his psychological problems in cycles using various art styles! Unbelievable how history tells us nothing about anything! :-)
Obsession with flamboyant natural? Lmao you sound like every Facebook and reddit group. So many of y'all like to dunk on us... we're not less feminine than other women. We are women, everything we do is feminine. Get out of here with these soft, delicate takes.
@@izabelezyleify A shame that even fun fashion sites are now ruined w miserable marxist trolls. But for the record - of course FNs can be stunning. In fashion world they are much taller than average women. That's why they're there.
What the actual fuck is this post. I don't think you understand art (especially if you think art needs to be beautiful to be effective communicators of an idea or a concept), artists, history, or political ideologies either.
I think, while Kibbe does get some things right, the problem with Kibbe are manifold and I think many stylists see the inherent flaws: - Kibbe is far from objective. He's a heterosexual white man with a preference for short, pear shaped white women. His system is not going to be universal. And since people are taking it as gospel, there is no way to universalise it to some degree (as has happened with 4 seasons-now way more than 12). -Kibbe doesn't harmonise features, it exaggerates them. Yangs get tips to look even more angular etc. This is not what a lot of people want. Stylists know: beauty is harmony, not exaggeration. Taken to the max, Kibbe can make people look like their own caricatures. That's why many stylists prefer the body shape system (fruits, letters, whatsoever) which is built to flatter. -Kibbe as well as the seasons are guidelines and those will naturally set limitations. This may be great for those who feel overwhelmed by the big world of fashion. Stylists however like to have some freedom. And I agree: sometimes you have to come out of that box and try something new. Your outfit in this video is the best evidence for that.
Thank you, now I understand why I did not like the kibbe system and the outfit recommendations: it is about exaggeration when I want to create an harmonic/minimalistic outfit. Also I got the impression that recommendations for certain types really say that the recommended piece will look on a different types even worse. Some clothes just do not look good on anyone. But I do think there are some universal style guidelines that will work for everyone, regardless of body type & color theory.
felt kind of like she thought she knew better at first but as you go along she actually does seem to just offer her point of view without dismissing others

Awesome 🤩 comment
I get the impression that Kibbe is closed-minded....
So, Aly please give us some examples of an excellent stylist and or clients that have a really good stylist.
I trust your eye.
I agree! That would be interesting!
I went to design and styling school and I can tell you that these videos have helped me so much even I’m professional.
I just wanted to say that I've been loving your style lately. I've noticed you got a few new pieces and you look really great in them!
I love Aly‘s whole outfit and style in this video!
Thank you. That is very good to know.
Made my clothes buying so much easier, and saved me lots of money and frustration, and I know what looks good on me (and why) ❤️❤️❤️!!!
i love the way you analyse things aly ,its phenomenal . can you please try doing other ethnicities like turkish actress esra bilig ,shes so beautifull and unique.id love to hear your insight.i am sure a lot of the audience would be facinated
I used to get so tickled watching Clinton Kelly and Stacy London, because they would disparage color analysis, but Summer Clinton always wore Summer colors and Winter Stacy almost always wore Winter colors.
My best colors had leveled up my appearance immensely.
This whole outfit is so cute. Period Aly

HEY ALY❣
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022🥳
The Met Gala is actually a costume party with a different theme each year. So the outfits will definitely be crazy.
So cool.
Looking at the Kinbe system; it makes very clear what a type is NOT. Therefore you are less likely miscast yourself. Also I find the mention of how and where you gain weight to be so right and helpful in casting your type. SO happy I came upon this. thank you!
Love your sweater!
I love this so much. You’re great at explaining the body frames and shapes and I find it very helpful so thank you! My area of expertise is definitely Color Analysis 🥰
Would love for you to do one on why stylists don't like color analysis.

Yes, Alex, I agree: with dedication and a little patience it's pretty possible. 😊🌹
intuitive, perceptive; brilliant analysis!
It would be so interesting to know your MBTI Type! That test only takes 12 min. Would be so cool if you shared it with us! 🥰💞

Are you guys talking about Aly or someone else?
This was fun! 🤗I could listen to you all day when you talk about David Kibbe. 😘

Hi. At first I just wanted to say that you are amazing. Your knowledge and approach to the topic is unique. I would like to ask if there is a chance to help me determine my Kibbe type? P.I've been trying to do it for two months now and I'm no closer. All I know is that it oscillates around classic somewhere.
🤔 so when will you start styling? You’d be terrific!
I am a soft autumn and soft natural. None of those colours and patterns really look good on me. I look better with deeper shades and less feminine outfits. Spent 2 years investigating myself through these two lenses but the result is still disappointing.
I should say I loved your look in this video.

My body type of vertical potato on top of two straws isn’t in the Kibbe types. 😂 I think under the potato I’m somewhere in the Dramatic range.
It is likely that the stylists who seem to be using Kibbe or something similar are influenced by McJImsey, the original source Kibbe used.
Great video! Do you do kibbe typing? As in, if I send you a pic can you help me figure out what type I fit into? I posted on Reddit in a kibbe group several months ago and never got a response. I have no clue what I am 🤷🏻♀️
the balenciaga is ok ..and Kibbe is also great " ..i dont careish" vibe is OK :D :D :D ...and all that things are beautifull
Very important question: where is your hat from? is it a one size hat or small? Your work is on a very high level. Always.
You are the best!
Would you like to do a Emily in Paris 2 fashion review video? I think her outfits are horrible in that series. 😆
Aly, what do you think about style of Saoirse Ronan for events? Many of them are really interesting, colorful and youthful.
I find it so hard to "see" it
I think Billie Eilish’s Met stylist did her a huge disservice. In my opinion this is a situation where it was all about the clothes and not about what would look best on Billie. It’s really didn’t fit her body or personality it all. This is just one example of what you’re talking about.
It actually made me angry that she was styled that way. It was opposite of everything that would celebrate her soft natural beauty.
You should talk about kendall jenner
Well stylists are not image consultants …
Super👌 🔥☺
Thanks
The thing about stylists taking the tall moderate model-ish women. I see that a lot in a make up artists work. So many pretty faces with huge eyes, small nose and huge lips. Of course the make up is going to look great. what I want to see them to work on for example on hooded eyes and do the same look on them. so shame
i think i'll never understand what season color i am or what bodytype- i seriusly don't get it "dramatic" "Classic""romantic" ..wtf i don't get it
Is it possible to be a cool-clear (winter) colour type with grey/green eyes? I have muted green eyes but clear coloured hair and skin, is it possible to have a combination?
Do you look your best in black or better in grey?
You’re probably still a winter even if your eyes are a bit muted especially since green is a cooler and clearer colour :)
How cute are you! Hope you are doing really well.
I need aly to get to the point
How much it costs to have a stylist 😊 eg. You
i will literally just sit & let this lady pick me apart for hours LMAOO
If you want to say FNs are masculine, then say it. Don’t backtrack your arguments if you mean it. I hate people who lie.
I think, while Kibbe does get some things right, the problem with Kibbe are manifold and I think many stylists see the inherent flaws:
- Kibbe is far from objective.
Can you help typ your viewers?

Can I just say I hate all this Balenciaga vibe 🥴
What was the point of your rant?
I think the point is exactly what you get from it. If that’s nothing then you know you’re in the wrong place or it’s not for you.
felt kind of like she thought she knew better at first but as you go along she actually does seem to just offer her point of view without dismissing others
just listen and try to understand
