What I love about getting my personal color analysis done is that it really helped me when it comes to shopping. Now when I’m shopping for clothes/makeup I pretty much mentally block out the colors I know won’t suit me when previously, a lot of times I’d waste money purchasing cos I just LIKED the color but then I try it, I looked horrible, and I never touched it again lmao. Of course I dont bound myself strictly to it, if theres something I wanna try I’ll get it, but what a lot of people who always say “do whatever you want/wear what makes you happy” is that for MANY people, they want that kind of guidance. Cos beauty/fashion can be extremely overwhelming sometimes and its nice to have some kind of guide. And for this reason, I personally think a color analysis is worth the investment.

I had a seasonal color analysis done and it really helped me (and I’m a millennial)! I was draped as a true summer (for reference, I’m extremely pale with naturally blonde hair and blue-green-grey eyes). It’s made shopping much easier and it’s made me better at picking out things I actually end up wearing a lot. It also makes it easy for me to wear no base makeup because my skin, including my under eye hollows, look so good when I’m wearing my colors.
I’d love to see more videos like this, Alex! In color analysis, one’s coloring isn’t considered fully settled until after puberty so I’d love to see you get another color analysis done and then do some makeup looks based off those colors.
(Also, I see a lot of people saying that color analysis and things like it are just about women wanting to categorize themselves or belong to a club- as someone who had a really hard time shopping for myself and finding clothes I actually like, color analysis significantly unfucked that process for me and has made my life a lot easier. It’s not always about wanting to label oneself- these things actually have utility)

heck yeah! Almost sure I'm some kind of summer (still don't know the subcategory), and I also noticed how I started wearing less makeup when wearing my colors. I have a lot of redness on my face and I was always insecure of it. But whenever I put on the right colour I immediately feel better about it, like it meshes with everything, and foundation actually makes it look a bit worse, I'm starting to think it's the wrong shade dang it (that and the fact my blush which looked cool toned enough actually isn't lol). However if I wear black I feel like I need to do something about my pale lips and the low contrast going on in my face, and put on foundation to cover my blemishes. It might look good, I don't know, but it doesn't look or feel fresh and effortless.

I’m a deep winter and long before I knew what that was, I knew two things. One, I look best in what I’ve always called “jewel tones” like sapphire, ruby, emerald and second, I look awful in orange. Overall, wear what makes you feel great!

True Winter here and anything brown or orange make me look orange while anything neon makes me look green. The only thing I knew about what suited me is that navy was better than black for me and that icy shades, not pastels but things that literally read cold and silvery made me beam. I also read pale despite being medium dark POC, mostly because my eyes are weird (they're a whisky brown with very noticeable from afar black rims) and I have thick medium ash brown hair that reads black because of the massive contrast. I knew something was up when even white people and East Asians always described me as a "pale brown woman". It felt like an oxymoron but 95% of people who've ever met me would describe me like that. The others would say I reminded them of Snow White. I discovered early I couldn't wear all the "natural" earthy tones because they make me look dirty but I look amazing in hot pink and red lips. I still stubbornly tried to fight my coloring by trying to embrace True or Bright Spring colored makeup as I love makeup and found that most cosmetics cater to springs or autumns. However, after realizing nature gave me the perfect lips to showcase such bold shades, I gave up and embraced my coloring. I just wish it wasn't so hard to find outside of black, white and navy as it's a tough one to find in clothes.

I was typed as a Soft Summer and even though those colors were not necessarily my favorite for makeup, I have to admit that I really look more fresh, awake and youthful when I wear them. Bring anything Dark Autumn near me and I look like I'm dying. However I was also told that olive undertones (which I have, too) can sometimes change the game a bit and make some shades from other seasons randomly look good on you - I wear orange red lispticks really well, for example.

Olive can make it more difficult because of green being a mixture of a cool and warm color. I was typed as a spring years ago by a friend who had done the course and I thought she was wrong - I thought I had to be an autumn (this was probably when you were in middle school lol). Anyway years go by and I did another online cult called Dressing Your Truth which finds out which element you are in and gives you a color palette. Well, that was basically the spring palette for my type 1 (air). It was hard to give up black (I’m from NYC originally) but I did and let me tell you - NOT wearing black has made a huge difference. Recently I got back into this seasonal thing and I believe I am, in fact, a bright spring.
After watching you and some other makeup youtubers I have started wearing colors like a bright coral crème blush and gold liquid eyeshadow - this is AMAZING because I am 60! People keep telling me I am beautiful. When I was 25 I did not get compliments like I get now. So I’d say learning your colors and going with them makes a HUGE difference.
The DYT thing also tells you styles that suit you, not just colors, so the combo is working really well for me.

I got draped a few months ago and it was honestly the best thing I have every done for myself. I am pale, green eyes dark brown hair and I got typed as a true autumn. It was a surprise for me, because It was more or less the opposite of what I wore. I decided to give it a go - dyed my hair ginger, picked out make up that was in that season and it's like people all of a sudden took notice. Everyone complimented me on my clothes, the new way i do my make-up. Now, it might be biased, of course, since I've changed something and people just notice but it's not just people I know, it was also people seeing me for the first time and I never got compliments before on the random.
I also feel better in my colors, i don't follow devotedly of course, I still like to wear black from time to time, but it's helped me so much, and I think everyone should do it if they can.

I am pretty sure I would hold the world record for color analysis, if there is one. 😂 ❤️
I have been doing color analysis professionally since 1984, so I have done several thousands by now. I’ve seen many color systems (and color consultants) come and go. My best color training came from doing actual color analysis on a wide variety of human coloring - I went through a lot of trial and error as I learned from the experience. In 2001 I brought my own system of color analysis to market, taking the guesswork out of the analysis. I now teach others exactly what to look for, so they can do a correct color analysis, too. Many people were color analyzed incorrectly in the beginning of the color craze in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. This lead many creative people to “poo poo” the entire concept, unfortunately. I’m here to help keep that from happening again, as this next “craze” takes hold. 😊

Perhaps Alexandra will be interested in knowing more about my color training and experiences and contact me for more information. (I'll give her a huge discount). I got a professional colour analysis last year and one thing I appreciate about the lady in retrospect is that she didn't force me into one of the 16 categories, but instead just gave me my perfect colour wheel. I say this, because now I know that I'm a fair neutral-cool olive (she didn't know about fair olives either as she was confused by my complexion and how versatile it is with colours) and that I don't fit any category perfectly. I'm closest to a Deep Winter, but I consider myself a Soft Winter as I need the colours to be slightly muted which I instinctively already knew according to my closet. So seasonal colour analysis is definitely helpful, but we're still individuals who need personal touch.

    Dark Autumn here 🙋🏽
I think Color Season analysis can be really helpful for a few reasons. The main one for myself being a woman of color that grew up in the 90s- a lot of popular shades and things that are heralded for “looks good on everyone” really haven’t been inclusive of non-Eurocentric skin depths and undertones. Knowing what colors sit in best synergy with my coloring is super helpful when it comes to figuring out what my easy reach makeup items are for day to day or when I’m in a hurry- and what colors/ tones are going to take a little more tweaking to suit me. For instance gold tones look best on me, but still I love silver eyeshadow- which translates to if I want to wear silver, I’ll need to pair it with a darker, richer liner and maybe amp up the under eye coverage. Or, while that super bright pink Dior blush was going viral, I already knew that a dusty mauve or deeper magenta would give me the same brightening affect- where as that particular shade of pink would look to flat/pale and wash me out.
It’s one of those, learn the “rules” and then you can break them, type of things.

When it comes to makeup I’ve heard it’s important to stay in your season for foundation, blush and other base products, and you can stay in your season for eyes and lipstick for natural and no-makeup looks. but you can also go to a season that is opposite/different season with lips and eyes if you want to draw more attention and make those features ‘pop’ since it creates contrast. E.g. a cool toned red lip on a warm toned person can make more of an impact.

However, I do feel like I have a better sense of what colors and color qualities look best/worst on me (I just don't find it fits neatly into a season) and that is helpful. I want to thank you for encouraging people to get fabric and try it themselves and for reinforcing that people don't need to box themselves in and give up what they love. I know people who have loved their professional consult but there is this idea that you *need* one and it is the only way to know the *truth* (even though some people have seen more than one analyst and gotten different seasons). I find this pretty classist because not everyone can afford that! So I'm glad to see someone encouraging a more accessible approach. I also get frustrated by the fact that some people in this field have this attitude that one absolutely should not wear anything outside of your season. This can wind up being joyless and creativity-stifling imo. I love your attitude toward color analysis. It is healthier and more empowering.

Yes! As a light-medium olive toned person, it's incredibly difficult to tell. I think it's because our tones are not common. I am always mixing in green color correctors or pigments into my foundations/concealers. For example, I am shade 210 in the Haus Labs foundation, and it's the perfect shade, but not the perfect undertone. As soon as I add the mint green pigment from Haus Labs into the foundation (the tiniest drop), suddenly it matches my skin perfectly. This has also been an issue on finding colours that suit me well. In the end, I found I can pull off most colours, excluding like you mentioned, pastel tones, and probably yellow and blues. I prefer greens, earth tones, burgandys, warm chocolate colours, blacks, the right tones of beiges, and I love cream and white on my Mediterranean tone. What a journey though lol!!

I’m very fair olive, but unlike Alex, I’m cool-toned and muted so finding makeup that’s fun but doesn’t overwhelm me is difficult. Mauves, cool toned browns, lavenders all do ok, but can get boring and most “neutrals” have far too much red/orange/yellow and make me look jaundiced. Or worse, like I’ve got a three week old black eye/healing bruise.
Also, I’ve given up on finding my foundation shade. I just use blue and green mixers to get the color right once I’ve found a foundation that sits well on my skin.

Now I wear my makeup and clothes based on my colors and I get so many compliments on how young and fresh I look. Although I look like I have a warm overtone, I have a slightly cool undertone (yes it’s a thing according to my professional and not as simple as one thinks). I didn’t know that that existed.

    People love
    1. taking tests about oneself generally
    2. Having simple heuristics to avoid having to experiment and see what shades work for them and what they like
What bothers me a bit about is how how not everyone wants colors to "flatter" them, but they're normative. They often suggest what someone should wear without much elaboration, rather than explain HOW they change one's appearance in the way colors relate to one another

It actually makes sense to have guidelines because trying different colours can be costly especially with make up. Lots of people have buy make up products that they don't end up wearing realising later they don't suit them.
In terms of what's flattering when they do draping in seasonal colour analysis you can visually see a difference as to what flatters someone and I would actually count that as experimentation. They are literally experimenting with what colours work on someone when they do this.

My mom did all of our colors when we were kids. She got these little packets (like a checkbook) with swatches of our colors, which we got to keep once we moved out. I carry it whenever I’m shopping and it is very helpful! One note is that as she and my father have gotten older, and their hair & skin have changed, their color-seasons have also changed a bit. So if you dye your hair or tan, I’d guess there will also be slight shifts in what’s good vs. great on you.

This has been a huge help in terms of shopping for clothes and makeup. When I stumbled across it originally, because I'm so pale, I thought I was a soft or true summer. Looking back on photos of me in cool tone makeup vs now the very dark neutral, but slightly warm makeup is such a GAME CHANGER. I just got it done by a professional after struggling to settle on one season myself. I was going back and forth between autumn and either true spring or bright spring. Turns out I’m a ‘Warm Spring’ in the 16 season color analysis system which is akin to a true spring in the 12 season system. Warm spring happens to be between true spring and autumn so I was on the right track it seems. I’ve found it super helpful! I still wear black and other colors outside my season but it really got me out of my box clothing and especially makeup-wise. I tried coral lipstick recently which I never gravitated towards but now it’s my absolute favorite. It’s helpful to have a color framework to play within and I’m a big believer that you should learn the ‘rules’ before breaking them and making them your own.

I have not gotten tired of the makeup as I have darker or bolder features (big eyes, big tall cheekbones, tall nose, big pouty lips). A bold lip with fluttery mascara and a clean brow is always a great look that pictures well and will never run out of style. It just happens that's the Winters' basic uniform. Mauve is an unexpected game changer for me as that's as muted as we could go: Learning this is how we do muted lips allowed me to experiment with eye makeup. The indie eyeshadow market is also a godsend for Winters as they offer a variety of shimmers which allows us to play without losing character. Aromaleigh's eyeshadow and blush selection is a Winter's bestie. Highly recommended them when you want to play with the more nuanced colors of your palette.

Also, love to wear warmer colors and wearing gold instead of the true summer recommendations. I do agree that I am very muted, have a medium contrast, and have a blue undertone (and a yellow overtone, I am also a light olive). But most people like the delicate, soft warm colors on me (like the soft autumn). It is a process, but right now I am trying to make my personal palette. I see it as a ''back to basic'' method, so you can expand your colors more. In my opinion: color analysis is different for everyone & is about customization instead of putting everyone in one box (here is your color strip, you can't get other colors). I think there is also no ultimate one-right method; not an ''one size fits all'' solution. :)

Thanks for spreading the word about Colour Analysis. Some tips about that:
    - Doing online is not reliable, if you you do via digital screen you will have different results than testing on natural light (most likely wrong results).
    - It is about the color that MELTS on your skin and not colours that you THINK it makes you more beautiful i.e.: A girl thinks she is more beautiful when using bright red dress because makes her look 'brighter' in contrast on her skin and the red catches a lot of attention. In reality that dress might not suit her because: - The bright red catches more attention than the person itself (this is already a hint that the colour is not matching), If the color makes her brighter is not melting on her, therefore is not matching exactly with her skin. This happens all the time, I love neon colours but when I wear it I disappear, so is a no no for me.
    - You can have Neutral, Cool or Warm temperatures, this is also defined in the Colour Analysis.
    - Please, pay attention to your Contrast as well, this helps define a lot things.
    - Most likely there won't be a color that you cannot use (besides black) what will happen is that you will have to wear different tons of that color.
    - This helps define types of patterns you should use on clothing, make up, jewellery and accessories.
    - If there is a colour you like that is not on your palete it doesn't mean you cannot wear it. Colour Analysis is done based on your face, so for instance if Black is not on your color palette you can still wear away from your face, you can use black pants, black belts, black shoes etc.
    - Have fun! This is not to move you away from the things you like. It is a guide to help you even more with your daily decisions and it is your to adapt the way you liked it ;)
@Alexandra I would recommend you do your colour analysis again because you mentioned you are a olive skin and this is one of the trickiest skin to do the analysis. So maybe you could do with someone else just to confirm if your season is correct.

I did my colour analysis myself and it was super fun and I found it super helpful!! The website I found walked you through all the different colour properties/metrics and how to determine them. I don’t remember the name of my colour season cause what’s the point of that lol, I just remember the types of colours that look best on me!
My colouring is: olive undertone, neutral, medium value, medium high saturation, medium high contrast. I look best in colours that follow those metrics, I can definitely explore outside of them a fair bit if I want, and I know roughly some things that don’t look great on me.
Knowing these things really help me because I really struggle with decision making especially when it comes to shopping 😅. It helps soooo much to be able to look at something and refer back to my metrics to help me decide if I like it or not.
Something else I found really helpful is to analyze my body shape and research what looks best on my body shape and my features and most importantly WHY they do. What illusion do these shapes create on me? Again it helps me pick items that I know will look flattering on me or will accentuate or minimize certain features of mine depending on what I want!

I love color analysis and knowing my season (roughly, I didn't do a consultation but what suits me feels pretty obvious to me after comparing the palettes) for a few reasons:
Shopping. It avoids buying things I love the color of but that I never end up reaching for cause I feel odd and ugly for no apparent reason. Trying it on in the store in a hurry with no knoweledge of my season usually ended up like that, cause I didn't notice right away, and the lighting is terrible anyways.
Lazy no makeup days. This is imo the best use of color analysis lol, just wear your bestest colour and it's going to make you feel better or at least not worse, you are not going to exaggerate your undereyes that you didn't cover up or add weird shadows on your face or make you look sick.
I've seen some colours that would all look awful on me make someone else shine, so I think it's pretty legit. But I also think there's space for creativity, your colour palette should be in harmony with you, but we're not always looking for harmony are we? Or if we are there are other ways to get it, I've seen some crazy outfits and makeup looks that in their boldness look cohesive, interesting and beautiful. "This colour is ok but is stealing the scene from you, it looks like it's wearing you" is a phrase I heard a lot that made me think maybe it's ok for the clothes or the makeup to be the focal point, who cares.

I love this stuff and everything colour related in general, I like to randomly analyse people, my friends, celebrities, people on social media, its so much fun. and by the way, Bright Spring is the only other season next to Winters who actually can pull off black and it does look good on you :)

It took me years to find out what palette was best but it helped me a lot. Also it’s just a fun to study yourself and color.

I’m a true winter and it’s absolutely helped me buy more flattering clothing. Or rather stop buying colors that look terrible on me. Haven’t totally implemented it in makeup but I do buy cool toned colors more often than not.

It’s really interesting that you’re a spring! I thought all Olive tones were a cooler season. On camera your skin tone looks super similar to mine, which is a cool pinky olive. Can you talk more about olive tones and the different seasons?

Deep autumn here. Loved it! One the best thing for my wardrobe and my makeup expenses! I don't complete adhere to it, but when I have to look better, especially if I haven't had a good night sleep, it saves me!

I'm a soft autumn and learning about it definitely helped me pick makeup and clothes - even when I want to wear something that's not on my palette, I've learned how to make it look more flattering by balancing it out. I've learned which tones of pink look good on me - which is huge, because I thought I didn't look good with pink at all, and now my favorite accessory is a fabulous pink cashmere scarf

Looooove color season analysis. Such a fun rabbithole. Thought i was true autumn but I’m “soft” autumn per a great service on cardigan empire. The Concept Wardrobe has fascinating style/season information, but they put most of their stuff behind a paywall.

I am winter. Totally agree Alexandra it helps so much when buying make up. When I was newer to make up I bought so many products that didn't suit me and I thought the only way to know was trial and error. Also I thought I looked bad in red lipstick but turns out I just look bad in warm red lipstick. Now that I know my season I have such a clear idea of what make up and clothing colours work for me.
It's also helpful to note that the colours that are the most impact on your complexion are the ones close to your face e.g. make up and tops you wear.

This is one of those cyclical things coming back around again. Back in the day we called it "Getting your colors done." I had this done when I was a teenager back in about 1992/93 and was told I was a Spring. It really confused me back then because as a super fair blue-eyed redhead, I was positive I'd be a Fall/Autumn because of the colors. But now as I age, I can see the pinky tones in my skin and it finally makes sense lol

Dude I've been down the rabbit hole with this one it gets so confusing beyond seasons there's your facial essence your (Kibbe)body type 😵‍💫 but I did figure out my undertone finally haha I'm a warm spring, heartbreaking, I love silver jewelry and black but I just sub navy and gold it makes a huge difference

Figuring out I was a bright winter was very helpful because at the time I was always buying makeup and clothes that were dull or muddy colored but now I always look for brighter colors. Definitely made me look better!😊

I did a colour analysis about 6 months ago. It was so helpful for the reasons you said.
I thought with every cell in my body that I suited cooler tones. Nope. Warm tones. So I started wearing bronzer again and peachier blushes and I feel so much better about it.
It gives me so much direction with everything I purchase and know that a cool pink blush is not going to suit me day to day. It just means if l wear cooler tones I will be making more of a statement and it will be more dramatic.
It also gave me direction with depth. I have very light skin and very dark features, so nude lips wash me out. I want so badly to live pink nude lips, but I can not rock it. So now I wear some with more depth.

It could be fun to see you get a new color analysis !
I'm not a pro, I may be wrong, but seeing your current features, I would actually say you're more in the autumn spectrum. You look like you have olive skintone and your eyes seems khaki to me. You exhale more a ''warm, rich, earthy'' feeling than ''warm, bright, fresh'' that would give a spring.

It absolutely helps! Finding out that I am a winter changes how I look at make up and clothes. I would wear eyeshadow meant to enhance my eye color, and it would make the rest of my face look like I am horribly ill. Now I know why. Shopping with my seasonal colors in mind for the first time was such a breeze.

There was a Colour Me Beautiful book in my house when I was a kid! I've known for years that I'm a summer but only recently discovered the subcategories and lemme tell you, figuring out my undertone is more neutral than cool has been a game changer! I embrace soft, dusty, light colours and look for oatmeal/bone over white and navy over black in clothes, and for makeup, I go for a fresh, natural look (nothing too dark or too pink) ☺️
