    Floyd makes that shoulder roll look so easy in real time. When he fought Canelo he was doing that same move they just showed us off the ropes.

      Yea but alot of ppl that try to copy floyd dont realize that floyd doesnt use it all the time in every fight. He uses a high guard quite a bit also and switches.

THE SHOULDER ROLL WAS THE ONLY WAY FOR HIM TO KEEP FIGHTING WITHOUT FOOTWORK OR LEGS TO ESCAPE. HE MADE JR LEARN IT EARLY SO HE COULD FIGHT STRONGER GUYS IN THE POCKET LIKE HE HAD TOO.

    De la Hoya’s posture sits naturally too far over his front leg to make the shoulder roll effective. His best head movement came from changing levels rather than slipping, because his feet are so narrow he has poor lateral stability.

No he proves his point indirectly, and he is accurate on most occasions, and if they dont realize when someone tries to play you in a interview or succeed in getting them to answer honestly the reporter did what they were supposed to do, and if your not alert for those slick questions maybe you should hire a PR assistant ...

    These comments are fascinating. Mayweather Sr didn't invent the shoulder roll defense. It's a strategy that's been around since before he was born. Mayweather jr was not the first to perfect it either. Other great fighters like SRR and James Toney came along before him utilizing it as good as it's ever been done.

    • @NeckolasBone
      @NeckolasBone 9 лет назад +3

      cmi2is There was also a fighter from Argentina that did It seriously well too, can't remember his name though. I think SR. Is legit convinced he perfected It and made It his style, but there Is an Interview with him on the suggested videos where he says an old man taught him how to catch punches and return them, and he practiced It on his own from there. You are correct though, he surely didn't Invent It.

    • @Forw1072
      @Forw1072 9 лет назад +5

      cmi2is agree 100 percent only difference is there hasnt ever been a defensive fighter that is the athlete that floyd is. most guys with the athletic gifts that floyd has are normally offensive and depend heavily on hand speed. There has never been a defensive fighter as fast as floyd. but yeah james toney has used this for years and its worked very well for him he says he was influenced by ezzard charles(havent seen much of him). As far as sugar ray robinson....he utilized it but he took alotta punishment. Lots of it. he was too offensive minded to take full advantage of it. but u are right.....floyd is not the first

    • @cmi2is
      @cmi2is 9 лет назад +2

      Forw1072 Well, Id say Roy Jones was a defensive fighter who was more athletic than Floyd. Only difference is that Roy created traps for KO's rather than wanting to go the distance. I don't now if there's ever been a fighter as defensive minded as Floyd at that level. For Robinson, the shoulder roll was a tool he utilized from time to time, but he wasn't really a defensive fighter at all, that's true. and don't get it twisted, Floyd heavily depends on hand speed. His father even said that hand speed is a major tool for making the shoulder roll an effective strategy. If Floyd had slow hands, he'd be far from undefeated.

    • @Forw1072
      @Forw1072 9 лет назад +4

      cmi2is this is coming from the biggest roy fan on youtube...ME haha. but i personally think roy wasnt very defensive at all. jus my opinion though. he used his hand speed to scare dudes from punching and opening up after a few rounds. very bad technique defensively. hands stayed low basically daring dudes to throw. And when he lost his legs he took alotta punishment. Roy WAS more athletic but i wouldnt call him defensive. but i agree wit floyds hand speed

    • @cmi2is
      @cmi2is 9 лет назад +1

      Forw1072 Sounds a lot like Floyd to me. He rolls punches away and uses his hand speed to counter and land clean shots. Half way through the fight the opponent is simply standing in front of him afraid to throw. Roy did drop his hands a lot. But if you notice he never suffered because of it. He usually just got caught with a good shot with his hands up. Tarver, Johnson, Green, Lebedev, they all caught him with his hands up and simply slipped a punch through his guard. I think it was all the mystic. Once Roy lost to Tarver, the mystic was gone and fighters stopped being intimidated. It happens with most great fighters. Floyd is benefiting from it now, but if he ever loses, you'll see he'll no longer have that mystic. It's funny how a fighter being undefeated helps them stay undefeated. That's why I give Pac a bit more credit as a fighter as far as legacy goes. He's been defeated more than once, but even with the mystic gone, it doesn't change the outcome. He just keeps on winning like he never lost. Can't wait until next week. We're in for a great fight.
