    Philly Shell Stance in MMA?►www.fighttips.c...
    Love him or hate him, you can learn some great boxing moves from Floyd Mayweather. Like his defensive shoulder roll from the Philly Shell stance. However, there is more than just blocking with the shoulder (in fact I made this mistake a few fights ago), because that leaves you in a dangerous range for follow up punches. Learn how to properly shift back, knock your opponent off balance, and land your counter punch!

    this guy dont really know too much about floyd's style... They dont understand, its not leaning, that lean is one small part of the roll.... there's much more to it then just ur upper body rolling and leaning... This type of roll will get you Ko'ed, especially if you aint experienced and dont know what ur doing... The roll Floyd uses comes from the turn, he closes up his chin into his shoulder, and almost like throwing a punch with the right technique and snap! That's how he rolls his shoulder! it's tucking ur chin into ur shoulder and snapping it like a punch, at the same time u snap you turn and bam! You roll the punch... This type of roll is not smart, and is wrong on a lot of levels... No balance, and you need to be facing a really bad fighter to pull this off.... I dont recommend this at all.... Also, Floyd has different foot work, if you ever watch Floyd fight look at the direction his LEAD FOOT is pointed at, hes turned side ways!

    • @Ricenburg
      @Ricenburg 8 лет назад

      How will you get knocked out? It's not an efficient Mayweather roll to counter but your head is waaay far away to be hit by a straight.

    • @OldSkoolBoxingg
      @OldSkoolBoxingg 8 лет назад +6

      Because, no one is going to stand there and throw the punch from where they are standing... They're going to come forward and throw the shot in real time! You really think this guy has time to stop and pull this off? thats why i said this only will work on a beginner.... Unless you use it properly, by stopping the punch like a shield and having your chin properly tucked and having your feet in the right position. In real time he can pull this off against a beginner who just throws ONE punch.

      The "shoulder roll" in this video is the kind you could do while backing up to avoid one or two punches, kind of like McGregor did a few times against Diaz this last August. A big part of the shoulder roll is the distance as the man in the video stated, however he failed to understand how to control that distance in the way Mayweather does. Mayweather doesn't lean straight back like that, no, he uses his front foot to give off the illusion that he's closer than he is which makes people commit to the punch from further out than they should, allowing him to roll it off as you stated without issue. On top of that, looks can be deceiving -- if you watch him do it slowly, a lot of the time when he's actively rolling multiple punches in a row, he's using help from his elbow to flick the punch away along with the shoulder. He utilizes a lot more elbow and forearm defensive techniques than people give him credit for, if he was only doing one type of shoulder roll all day, people would adjust. Instead, he adjusts to them. The theory the video presents about why the shoulder roll works as well as it does is true, they just focused on the wrong part and in practice, this could be dangerous if you're not using it in moderation.

    • @OldSkoolBoxingg
      @OldSkoolBoxingg 7 лет назад +6

      Yes I agree, there's a lot more to that roll then people think.... The way it was done in this video is very basic and he doesn't even have his chin tucked, not to mention the positioning of his feet is horrendous.

    Floyd DOES NOT use the real philly shell. He uses it other way sort of variation that works for him. If you really want to see how it's done watch George Benton or James Toney.

    • @KingDumas
      @KingDumas 6 лет назад +1

      Siergiej882 Kowaliow imma natural Philly shell meaning when I first put on the gloves I just naturally did it BEFORE I knew it was Philly shell and after I knew what it was I studied all the professional boxer who used it and I agree benton and James Toney were master's at it Mayweather as well but it's something you have to perfect in your own style.

    @fightTIPS please do a video on why you fight. That would be very cool because I have this feeling now for a while which tells me to start fighting (in a ring of course) I'm training boxing now for about 4-5 years and my parents and my whole family are telling me that I can't win anything in these amateur fights and only can get hurt, where they have a point I think, so please tell me/us what keeps you fighting. That would be awesome (sorry for my bad English) greetings from Germany

    • @bdpchamp
      @bdpchamp 8 лет назад

      Dude look, sometimes the biggest critics and naysayers come in the form of your family. If this is something you want to pursue, NO ONE AND NOTHING can get in your way except yourself. If boxing truly is your dream, and you are willing to make any sacrifices to achieve your goals then why let what they say affect you? You need to get your head in the right place man. This is boxing, of course you're going to get hurt. Of course you're going to take big hits. But it's about the experience and the glory, and most importantly your HAPPINESS. If you've been boxing seriously for 3 years as you said you have been, with an actual trainer and sparring happening in this time period, then you are MORE than ready to compete in amateur tournaments.

    Hi Shane, I'm a 16 year old who does boxing training twice a week, but it is a busy place and so I don't get a lot of the help I would like from the trainers. Do you have any drills (particularly footwork and punching drills) that I could maybe practice at home? I would really appreciate that. Also, I have a friend who does MMA in his spare time and I have a lot of friends who say that boxing is for "pussies," and I would kind of like to prove them wrong, so my friend and I agreed to have a "friendly" MMA contest. Do you think that a boxer would stand any chance against an MMA fighter, or would an MMA beat the hell out of a boxer every time? I feel as though an MMA fighter would have a much greater chance of winning, but would a boxer like myself still have any chance at all, even if it is only slight? I would really appreciate your insight and opinion. Also, do you have any exercises / drills that could improve a fighter's "chin." Would really appreciate that. Cheers bud.

    Dude, that shell is nothing like Floyds. Floyds shell only looks easy because he makes it look easy to where as (like this guy) it looks as if anyone can do it, when in reality it's a tricky style to do. It only looks easy when Floyd does it because of his sense of timing, range and the way he's able to adapt to his opponent to the point where it's like he can feel when and where his opponent is going to punch. It's not as simple as the instructor makes it out to be. If he were to try his philosophy against a pressure fighting boxer his philosophy will change dramatically.

      That move can be used in Muay Thai. I remember being taught that when I used to do Muay Thai.

      Not sure, if he knows you're goin to do it he can just fake it and do a left kick. You'll just fall into the kick I think.

    Ah Floyd Mayweather's?

  • @Interstellar987
    @Interstellar987 8 лет назад

    This only applies to boxing, not MMA or self defense. Mayweather is just good at blocking and absorbing those gloves, that's the illusion to his greatness. Rigondeaux has a far superior defense and footwork than Floyd.

    But this thing only works in boxing. In mma or muay thai they would just kick you instead when you try to dodge it. And just by looking at this video you aint gonna be good at dodging this way, you need practice. I really like your vids they do help a lot but i dont like this move becasue it only work in boxing.

      ***** appreciate your response, we want you to break down his style, he doesn't protect his face but never got knocked out, we want to know how he moves, how he leans back, and the reason of his HIGH knock out ration.. and why he is the hardest featherwight puncher in boxing history.. try your best cuz no one really is breaking this legend's style down clearly and scientifically.. if you could.. thanks
