    I was fortunate enough to not only attend a seminar on catching kicks and Muay Thai sweeps from Kevin Ross, but to also be swept upside down (and then some) by him! Listen as he explains how to properly catch your opponents leg, sweep their foot out, and dump them!

      Thank you for mentioning this. My son taught me that catch. I’m not sure where he learned it, but I was used to catching with the same side. We practiced that a bit yesterday. Today, one of the coaches at the gym where we train said that that is not a good technique 🤔 I don’t ever just believe anything anyone says especially when it goes against what makes sense to me, so here I am doing research. I’m glad you mentioned the fight. I went to look at it, and it was beautifully executed.

  • @Levi_Skardsen
    @Levi_Skardsen 8 лет назад

    When you do this, try not to think of it as a sweep, but more that you're using your hip while running through them. Like he says in the video, just lifting their leg throws their balance off so much that it doesn't take much to get their foot off the ground.

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  8 лет назад

      +Levi Skardsen The sweep itself the very last piece of the puzzle, yes!

    • @Levi_Skardsen
      @Levi_Skardsen 8 лет назад

      ***** When I first tried to learn this, I struggled a little. My instructor watched then told me I was trying to do everything backwards. He suggested trying it without the sweep, just the run through and the hip bump. I tried it and there's my partner on the floor.
      So yeah, you can actually do this without the sweep, but if they're very flexible, you'll need the sweep at the end just to give it that extra bit of disruption to their balance.
      Great video, thanks for posting it.

    Make a video on whod win in afight between a striker or grapler in the street and why !

    • @justfell1
      @justfell1 8 лет назад +1

      can go both ways. a fight is always 50/50 altough if the striker gets taken down hes pretty much fuked

    • @BasGameReview
      @BasGameReview 8 лет назад

      On the street a striker will almost always win ; once it goes to the ground your friends may start kicking your opponent and it's over no matter how good the other is at grappling.

    • @justfell1
      @justfell1 8 лет назад +2

      Bas in a 1v1 situation the grappler will win most of the time idk what ur talking about

    • @BasGameReview
      @BasGameReview 8 лет назад

      +Daniel Henrique in a cage, yes. On street, for example on a schoolfield, I highly doubt it. Once the striker and wrestler go to the ground, what do you think the friends of the striker will do? They'll start kicking the wrestler, taking away his main strength: the groundfight.

    • @justfell1
      @justfell1 8 лет назад

      Bas van der Veen in a 1v1 situation even in the street a grappler against a striker the grappler will always win.

    THIS IS AN EMERGENCY: So I was rough housing with a friend of mine, where he hit me twice with his bag and then I got him into a chokehold for with enough force to get him to the ground, but not hard enough where he could be knocked unconscious. After about 5-10 seconds I let go and he was still able to walk talk and stand but I'm concerned that he might die because I did that. Will he be likely to die from that chokehold?

      push both your arms to your side and headbutt, use that bit just above your forehead. aim for the chin. if they lean back to dodge that's okay, just keep driving forward for a takedown. alternatively again spread your wings and throw a knee or kick to the groin, if the groin's not open then push your hands together instead and hit the knee with a front kick

  • @kylepostman

      Johnny Channarong bend your leg at the knee and drive it against his hip bones/hip....while your going backwards you need to litteraly hop on your back leg to keep the distance

    Hey so I'm 6'2 and around 165 and have never been in a fight but would not be surprised if one should come up soon. I'm an orthodox but I don't know if I should have hands low or how to utilize my reach. Any tips?

      Don't lean back to dodge punches. It will only make it harder for you to fight

    • @kallensmith3989
      @kallensmith3989 8 лет назад

      Don't be afraid to get hit, learn to slip punches, condition yourself and get used to being hit, you don't have to dodge every single throw, learn to minimise the damage you take and utilise it.
      I have no Idea what I'm talking about hahaha.... So don't trust me.

      +kallen smith nice, common sense is rare on martial arts channels. you might self confess not knowing what your talking about but thats some sound advice.

    So I'm thinking of taking up krav maga, which is a fighting 'sport' without really being a sport, but more like self-defense. It's rather effective and brutal, but I don't wanna end up with too many injuries from sparring, especially to the head. Anyone got any advice?

      I want to start it as well, But didn't think of the concerns you just raised... ah gawd...don't want to lose too many brain cells!

      +hamsterlord757 If they're gonna put you to spar then the injury ratio is not gonna be different from any other sport martial art. All the self defence stuff you can't spar with because they are by definition un-sportsmanship. The only things I would recomend: spar with someone of you're same level, use as much protective gear as you can, if you've had enough call it a day (don't listen to coleagues boosting you to fight beyond your limits), if you think your partner is striking too hard ask him to drop it down a notch, if you get KO'd be sure to get out of commission for a while.

      +hamsterlord757 Krav is great. Realistic, brutal, well-rounded... but you DO need that sparring for the real-life experience. Because you can practice techniques on a pad, but when someone is punching and kicking back at you, you shut down.

      +hamsterlord757 Personally, I've heard good things from Krav Maga, but it is important that sparring is involved no matter which type of martial arts school you go to, because it is the best way for you to find out:
      1) How to fight different types of opponents
      2) Which techniques work for you
      3) What your weaknesses are and how you can overcome them
      4) How to absorb punishment
      No matter how often you practice, no matter what type of dai-sifu-sensei-grandmaster-instructor tries to tell you otherwise, if you don't spar, then you haven't really tested this technique out against a person whose goal it is to hit you. In the words of Mike Tyson: "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth," which is why all the techniques only work when you are being put in a situation which resembles an actual fight. If you go to a school where people tell you that they don't spar because all their techniques are "too deadly," fucking run out of there. They're bullshit artists.
      Also: Sparring isn't, and shouldn't be, brutal. It is a safe environment where you get to try out your techniques against an opponent who defends himself. No competent trainer would let you do all-out sparring sessions from the start, and good trainers warn people to not go harder than they should to try and boost their egos. And when they do, they put a stop to that quickly, and these people then look foolish as fuck. Light sparring (with 50% power) is already very beneficial and can teach you a lot. Sure, you might get a bruise from not blocking in time, but most of the time, that's about it.

    Hey Shane, quick question, when I catch my opponents leg they it is still difficult to control them because they keep resisting and flopping like a fish out of water.
    What could I do to keep them in more control so I can go for a sweep or something of that sort?
