My 1st home built quad was a FPV drone .. perhaps 6-7 years ago. Something like this would sure 'flatten the learning curve' , as a traditional racer curve is pretty steep. This FPV can cover a LOT of ground in a short time due to its speed, and has a significant range (as seen in other videos of it). If I were younger .. or didn't already have more quads than I probably should have, I'd probably look into this one myself. Cheers.

I've had this drone for a year and I'm in the same category as you. Busy dad, work and family takes a huge chunk of my week. I only get to fly this drone occasionally. I don't have the time to venture into the DIY fpv and this drone meets all my needs. Though in manual mode, I've had a few close calls with battery running really low as I forgot to watch the battery meter. The drone doesn't automatically RTH in manual mode 😝
I think you put words on what most of us feel. We want to be able to fly with some more control rather than just operate but with that gradual learning curve that dji provides. I know we are many who wants this beginner friendly fpv space to grow. Hoping for a dji fpv mini.
Two things I like about the DJI FPV quad. You can take off and land more easily. You can take off, go up a 150' and let it hover if you want while you have a coffee and vape. Same with landing. Too much wind just throw it in normal mode, pop the goggles off and you can watch it land nice and soft. Another thing I like is there is a better chance that it will not drop out of the sky when the battery gets low. A traditional FPV quad the voltage drops low when you do punch outs or any other high current maneuver. Usually the voltage bounces back, sometimes it doesn't. If you have a weak pack or flown just a little too long the voltage may drop and not bounce back, then the quad just falls out of the sky with your GoPro attached.
I remember it being a very controversial drone at the time it was released! Tho in the end it's pretty obvious that drone brings a positive influence on the community as more people got interested in the FPV hobby!
Hey Shawn, I've been following since 2020 and you always are one of my top sources for anything regarding drones. This video helped to answer my curiosity regarding DJI'S FPV. Thanks for the excellent information you provide the Drone/FPV community.
I got to fly it a couple times. Its pretty fun. Less power and agility than my custom quad but i was able to dive through trees ok. You have to stop yourself falling a little sooner than a normal 5in because it is heavy. The motors dont brake as hard so it feels just slightly floaty when you cut throttle, but it doesnt impact your ability to flip around. And of course it has that amazing dji camera on a gimbal that just takes amazing footage. I certainly cant do that :)
Great summary and I agree with everything. I have around 80 flights on mine now and it is by far my favorite drone (Mini 1 & 2 are my others). I find the camera quality to be excellent, but I am more of a flying guy than camera buff so it meets my needs. Just a couple things to add to your summary that need mention. 1st is the ability to raise and lower the Camera Gimbal which is great for keeping the horizon at the right level when climbing or descending Mountains, also on steep descents it allows the camera to view obstacles that might be in the way. Normal FPV drones have fixed cameras, big drawback. 2nd the AGL indicator is fantastic, really helps prevent getting too close to the ground and crashing, a big plus. 3rd, the ability to use roll stabilization which allows the camera to keep the horizon level at banks of 10 degrees, great for that Cinematic look. I am concerned about the new FAA rules that will require drone and controller location status, seems like that could be a big drawback to this hobby. Thanks again, enjoy your vids.
Good video Sean. I have my DJI FPV drone and my Air 2 S drone sitting here on my desk while I watch your video. I love both of these drones. And I also agree the FPV drone fills the niche into fpv for me and have no regrets buying it. It's a keeper. I have tricked mine out with some skins and a few other things to make it my own. I will jump into fpv a little further with some other quads equipped with the DJI FPV system, such as a cinewhoop for more fun. Great stuff, and I hope DJI continues with the innovation going forward. I can't wait to see what comes next ! Cheers from Utah.
I'm glad we have something like the DJI FPV, where those pilots leaning on the content creation side of flying drones can dip their toes into FPV and have a go at making cinematic FPV shots with less the hassle of learning to fly a completely different drone.
I think you are going to get me into this. I think it's your voice. It's like liquid gold. You have such dulcet tones. You can read a phonebook and sound good.
Great review! 👍 I'm 100% in agreeing with your thoughts. I purchased this drone b/c I come from a background of flying full collective rc helis. However, I had a really hard time with my orientation so I could never fly it the way I want. I always said to myself "if I can only be in the pilot seat, I would be able to fly better". Well...the DJI FPV definitely fill that void! Not sure or have real interest in doing freestyle with this drone but being able to fly it at 90 mph if I want is really cool! I can't wait to see what DJI have in mind with their FPV lineup in the future.
I have the fpv and totally love it for the distance and speed. Looking to pick up the avata as well for the size and durability which will make me more comfortable flying in tight spaces.
I just bought this because for the price it's not bad. I've been flying FPV for a few yrs now and I'll use this for my cinematic and photography experience
Excellent review and echo's what all are saying, I love mine...I am old, never played video games, but I love sitting n my front yard flying this thing around, never go out of sport mode, my mind does not work that fast LoL
I just ordered my first drone and I decided to buy the DJI FPV system with DJI Care Refresh. I took the protection because I didn't want to watch a lot of money go down the drain as my drone smashed into a brick wall at 60mph. Hopefully that won't happen but I wanted to be covered just in case it does. I got the system for $999 direct from DJI plus $199 for Care Refresh. I also bought the Fly More package and a case. So that brought the tally to about $1,600. I still need to get some ND filters and an action camera mount for my GoPro Hero 10 or DJI Action 2 (I own both). I will probably throw in a pair of prescription lenses for the goggles for about $125. Before settling on the FPV I was thinking about the Air 2/s, but the FPV won me over. Thanks for all of the great content!
I agree 100%, I thoroughly enjoy mine when I can get out with it. Since the camera is modular, I would instantly purchase an upgraded camera if they ever offered one.
You hit it right on the head. New kid, new job, new home and I haven’t had time to do more than to fly the sim!! I haven’t even flown the damn thing. I keep debating on selling but I will miss it hahaha. Fpv just seems so cool l-just wish there were more hours in a day!

I can manually fly basic acro with FPV quads. That said, I do really love the DJI FPV. The motion controller makes it easy for beginners to fly. The video quality IS AMAZING. My quads will drop out and be pretty fuzzy (analog) where as the DJI FPV video quality stays great, even under trees and around obstacles. If I want to really fly acro, I'll take another quad. If I want to fly a little acro and see very well and have fun with it, I fly the FPV. It absolutely has its use cases, even for those who can manually fly acro.
Love to buy this but after years of flying drones and now on a mini 2 Im happy where Im at. I can't even think of something I can't pop in my jacket anymore ;)
An FPV mini would be awesome, as long as they keep it compatible with the current controllers and goggles. I have no interest at all in replacing the entire setup just to have a mini. I already have a few smaller and larger carbon fiber quads compatible with the DJI system. They also should add autonomous modes to this and the mini, if it gets released. Or release the api so litchi can. I don't film for a living, so the image quality is fine for me and it would give me the best of both worlds.

I fly FPV so far but certainly I'll get one DJI FPV for security reason, give peace of mind for battery life, auto return home and to manage bunch of different type of lipo batteries, lipo batteries have exploded twice at home during charging, learning curve for FPV is long
I wanted one, briefly. I couldn’t travel the past year, so the desire to get it and film abroad waned. As you said, it’s not really the greatest for cinematic quality anyway.
Excellent review thanks. Of the three times you mentioned crashing were you in normal mode or manual? You had mentioned it does include that feature like the other DJI drones that limit crashing and flying protection etc.
My FPV was quite easy to pick up and take off. DJI in normal mode holds your hand fairly well. You want to learn how to properly fly it turn on manual mode. Hands down imo the FPV is better than the avata
i can see where dji would want to continue to built it's line of fpv drone. Possibly a cinewoop style drone for those narrow pass through shots in between objects, or the version 2 of it's current fpv drone, one that is more modular and if you crash it you can fix it yourself instead of sending to dji to have it fixed
Great update of your experiences. Have you heard anything about future support for flying air 2S or mavic 3 to be able to have a great cine ability with the cameras, while fly intuitively. If you have heard anything, please share it with us.
Love your vids man. Im considering purchasing this drone on discount but im torn if i should wait for a new and improved version but it looks like we are months away. Would you wait?
Folks always assume manual quad flying will be easy since the camera quads are so automatic. Build your own, learn how they work. Best way to learn is whoop quads.
@@AirPhotography I just got one tonight on Amazon for $989 and they gave me a free $150 gift card for applying for their Visa card so there was no way I could pass it up for ~$850. I think this quad will meet my needs perfectly. You’re in Ontario? I’m just across the river in NY!
What is your opinion about… DJI making the Motion Controller (once the solve the Sue by QFO labs) compatible with most of its drones as a differentiating element in the industry….
Hi, Supercool review video !!! 👌 I also own the drone, and I'm intrigued by the camera mount. Which type/brand is this, never seen it before? Thx Cheers Evel-Knievel
I finally built up enough courage to test out the actual full remote controller today (i.e. as opposed to the motion controller) in both N and S modes. Everything went well, no crashes!! Yay! However...there is one thing I absolutely HATE about using the remote controller when in Normal/Sport modes....If you are moving forward (i.e. right stick pushed forward) and you input some yaw on the left stick the drone performs a coordinated turn instead of just yawing! This really freaked me out during my first flight because I didn't understand what the heck was going on. I have 60+ hours in the Liftoff simulator performing coordinated turns with various drones that require both yaw and roll input. So these automated coordinated turns in N/S mode with the left stick are really screwing me up. Is there any way to have the left stick JUST perform YAW when in N/S modes? I know, of course, that I could switch to manual mode but I'm not remotely confident enough to risk flying in manual mode and crashing my expensive new drone. :(
Quick question: Would you recommend trying the Dji Fpv? I have a mini 2 and the FPV seems so fun, obviously I wouldn't jump straight into M mode but rather focus on cinematic shots. Do you get dizzy flying it? Also every video you make is top quality and always is fun to watch.
@@puhaletasan2711 the dizziness mostly happens when your learning to fly, the visuals arent smooth so its not nice to look at nevermind orientate yourself with. most fpv pilots learn the basics in a sim, i think the dji quad is good but for fpv, going straight to fully manual is the best option, learning instincts to control is easier if you arent unlearning easier modes at the same time, also, the fpv community is based on sharing info and knowledge, so help is never far away. building is very easy, don't be put off by jargon, and soldering is about 1,000 times easier than using a hot glue gun.
When I tried the DJI simulator I would get very dizzy, but not so much when using the drone. A little the first few flights but it went away. As long as i don't move my head to much and stay sitting I am fine
Great review - exactly what I was looking for. I've loved FPV for many many years but electronic knowledge is pretty limited, with 2 kids and 1000 other hobbies taking up FPV was just a little too involved to jump in. I've got plenty of muscle memory from flight games in my youth and on the sims I've played I had no trouble picking it up. I was wondering this as an AIO solution might be a good way to get into it and then organically learn FPV as a hobby from the inside-out instead of outside-in. Time to go shopping!
Can you use the DJI FPV system to connect to the Raven Eye? Basically use the goggles to connect to the raveneye, instead of connecting the raveneye to your phone. I want to use the goggles as my monitor, as opposed to my phone.
Thanks Sean ! Means a lot hope you subscribe to my channel still a student of drone flying but I’m getting into it a lot more ! Love your stuff keep up the good job 👍 👏
Great commentary, you very detailed.👌🏿 I have a question, have you ever experienced flying a drone over water and somehow it unexpectedly malfunctions and crashes in the water and you aren’t able to get help to get it out of the water? That actually happened to me in July 2021 with my Mavic 2 Zoom. I wonder if there is such a thing as insurance where they actually replace lost drones, not just damaged drones?
Yep there is if you have their DJI insurance, as long as you can provide the flight log from the controller that shows it crashed in the ocean. Then they'll disable the drone's ID (so it can't be synced with a new account, prevents fraud), you pay the deductible fee, and they replace the drone. Have done it twice: once in the ocean, once on the lip of a volcano.
@@JoeSpinstheGlobe Oh ok, that makes sense disabling the Drone ID. But unfortunately I called them, they said they couldn't. I think it was because I've had my Mavic 2 Zoom from June 2019-2021, 2 years. DJI's Warranty is 1 year. At the time I had the DJI Refresh Care 2 year replacement plan. I can't remember the whole conversation. But I will reach out to them again & mention what you just said.
QQ: If you are flying down a road fast, and then let off the sticks, what happens? Does it try to stop or does it go horizontal and drift to a stand still?
The drone will just slow down come to a stop in Hover at the same altitude that you were flying at. That’s considering you’re in sport or normal mode. If you’re in manual mode, then it will just crash.
I want to get this DJI FPV Drone, but I want wondering beside the DJI goggles being compatible with DJI FPV air systems. Is the controller also compatible with DJI FPV air system? Thanks.

Possibly a cinewoop style drone for those narrow pass through shots in between objects, or the version 2 of it's current fpv drone, one that is more modular and if you crash it you can fix it yourself instead of sending to dji to have it fixed
Congrats ur a prophet
Thanks for the recap. Quick question, can you set up a waypoint schedule for the DJIFPV drone?
How do you get the view of the drone from behind in the air? What kind of kit do you need for this view? Looks awesome.
Great update of your experiences. Have you heard anything about future support for flying air 2S or mavic 3 to be able to have a great cine ability with the cameras, while fly intuitively.
If you have heard anything, please share it with us.
I have not heard anything of course they have that new system coming out in a couple of weeks so it will be interesting how that will work together
I am going to the States in July. Should I buy the FPV there for a little lower price or perhaps wait for the FPV mini in Europe?
Yeah it’s hard to say. I don’t really want to advise anything because I don’t know anything about the new FPV mini yet
@@AirPhotography sure, thanks for the quick answer though!
Thanks for the review Sean. Is the goggles compatible with the DJI Air 2S ??
Had to trade my MA2 in and got an Air 2S and was debating between that or the FPV
Nice vlog. amazing drone. from Philippines..
thank you
So what's the proper way to store batteries? I'm getting one Friday and can't wait.
I have this drone. I love this drone. But did you say fpv mini??? I love this drone so much, I wish they were coming out with a full size drone!
Love your vids man. Im considering purchasing this drone on discount but im torn if i should wait for a new and improved version but it looks like we are months away. Would you wait?
Nice video. Can you please make a video about if you should get a DJI Mavic Air 2 or rather a DJI Air 2S? LIKED 👍.
Is there any power station to charge the DJI FPV batteries like the "Smatree power station for the mavic 2"?
Folks always assume manual quad flying will be easy since the camera quads are so automatic. Build your own, learn how they work. Best way to learn is whoop quads.
Please share a link to the GoPro mount
You put a go pro on top of it do you notice a quality in flying ?
could u recommend the details on the FPV carrying case that I saw in the video
Best Buy had this at the holiday $999 price as recent as last week or the week before, so probably see it again in the immediate future.
a great deal at $999
@@AirPhotography I just got one tonight on Amazon for $989 and they gave me a free $150 gift card for applying for their Visa card so there was no way I could pass it up for ~$850. I think this quad will meet my needs perfectly. You’re in Ontario? I’m just across the river in NY!
What is your opinion about… DJI making the Motion Controller (once the solve the Sue by QFO labs) compatible with most of its drones as a differentiating element in the industry….
How often are you confronted with the no fly zones and restricted to where and how high you can fly the Dji Fpv.
Living in Ontario they are few and far between. But I know for some that can be an issue
How do I get that piece you got on your drone to connect my go pro to it? Where can I purchase? Thanks for review
Hi,
Supercool review video !!! 👌
I also own the drone, and I'm intrigued by the camera mount.
Which type/brand is this, never seen it before?
Thx
Cheers

This is the one from smallrig I purchased it on Amazon
@@AirPhotography Thx for the reply 👍
Hi @Air Photography
You noticed the phishy comment and removed it !!! Cool 👍

Or perhaps you used to get dizzy but got used to it?
As long as i don't move my head to much and stay sitting I am fine
best move I made with my dji fpv was trading it for an Air2s haha
Great review - exactly what I was looking for. I've loved FPV for many many years but electronic knowledge is pretty limited, with 2 kids and 1000 other hobbies taking up FPV was just a little too involved to jump in. I've got plenty of muscle memory from flight games in my youth and on the sims I've played I had no trouble picking it up. I was wondering this as an AIO solution might be a good way to get into it and then organically learn FPV as a hobby from the inside-out instead of outside-in. Time to go shopping!
What is that GoPro mount you have on this? I haven’t seen this online and I would like to be able to mount something to the drone.
It was from small-rig. Unfortunately they don’t sell it anymore
I've got an Air 2S and have been thinking about the FPV as my next one. It looks like you have the hand controller - is that fun or just a gimmick?
Hi there. Any idea what sort of payload this can carry? I want to deliver a pizza to my neighbour, about 1/2 mile away.
What is the standard dji warranty
Can you use the DJI FPV system to connect to the Raven Eye? Basically use the goggles to connect to the raveneye, instead of connecting the raveneye to your phone. I want to use the goggles as my monitor, as opposed to my phone.
I don’t believe so no
Do those FPV goggles work with the DJI mavic 3 ?! I was thinking about the goggles to use with the mavic 3 if it works !!
Not as of yet, I myself hope they do make them compatible
@@AirPhotography what would you recommend as far as fpv for the mavic 3 or is it capable of any fpv ?!
Thanks Sean ! Means a lot hope you subscribe to my channel still a student of drone flying but I’m getting into it a lot more ! Love your stuff keep up the good job 👍 👏
Great commentary, you very detailed.👌🏿
I have a question, have you ever experienced flying a drone over water and somehow it unexpectedly malfunctions and crashes in the water and you aren’t able to get help to get it out of the water?
But I will reach out to them again & mention what you just said.
good😊
Fpv ok bgt👍🤟❤🇮🇩
good👍😄
QQ: If you are flying down a road fast, and then let off the sticks, what happens? Does it try to stop or does it go horizontal and drift to a stand still?
The drone will just slow down come to a stop in Hover at the same altitude that you were flying at. That’s considering you’re in sport or normal mode. If you’re in manual mode, then it will just crash.
@@AirPhotographythank you so much!
I want to get this DJI FPV Drone, but I want wondering beside the DJI goggles being compatible with DJI FPV air systems. Is the controller also compatible with DJI FPV air system? Thanks.
Unfortunately no it is not the controller won’t work with the air units
@@AirPhotography Thank you for your quick response.
Excellent Review Video On DJI FPV Drone. I'm Not Fan Of FPV, Because I Don't Like Seeing Propellers In My Video. Your Audio Was Weak In This Video. Thank You.
What do you do for living?
I have worn many hats over the years
