Ultimately, Nunchakus are cool looking weapons (made even cooler by Bruce Lee), but they fall short in being practical due to it’s high learning curve and high risk factor. If you’re ever confronted by Nunchucks, simply run away. If you can’t run away, protect your head and tackle the opponent. You might get hit, but it won’t be as dangerous if you give your opponent a chance to aim. Even in John Wick, he never finishes his opponent with the nunchucks, he weakens them with the nunchucks then uses his firearm to finish them.
Nunchucks are mostly effective as a surprise ambush where you can choke or guarantee a hit. At the end of the day, they look fantastic when performing with them, but not for self defense. What do you think?
I think that if a person attacks with a weapon of any kind, not by showing off, but by silently approaching, he probably knows how to handle it.
A few years ago I personally saw two men sitting in a bar. They had a fight, one of them smashed the other one's face with a big mug. He left with a bloody face and came back with nunchakus. He kicked him so hard, they had to call an ambulance. I was a little shocked, so I stayed to watch, and I didn't finish my drink. He didn't even hit himself. Just the nunchakus hit his body occasionally, but nothing serious.
Totally agree. I've practiced with the Nunchucks for a few years. I use them for fun and exercise. I did some tests on a sandbag and a baseball bat seemed to generate even more force than me doing a full back turning hit with the Nunchucks.
I think if nunchucks weren't effective, they wouldn't have survived to this day as a self-defense weapon, and would have been supplanted by something effective. Like the balisong, which many people consider just a toy and underestimate.
Hard agree. I was delighted when the season 3 finale of Warrior (A show based on the writings of Bruce Lee) had a fantastic looking nun-chuck scene.
Would love to see you guys do a scene analysis from Warrior!
There are variations with blades or pikes or both ends. Even a simple staff can become a spear, pike, polearm etc whatever
Thought the john wick portrayal seemed pretty practical and less flashy
The John Wick nunchuck scene was filmed beautifully but John Wick was just bashing ppl without finesse lol. Moreover, he always ended up finishing them off with his firearm. If it was a legit fight, he would have been done for. There were so times he left his back open for being tackled.
@@ScenicFightsplease break down John Wicks nunchuck fight 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
No in john wick, he was demonstrated as a person who use it for the first time, he dont use it as a primary weapon. Plus, he learn how to use it in 1 min with no experience before. It seems like effective but it was because of his combat experience and the assasin stuff
So it kind of safe way to use than the effective way
With john wick style, you less likely to hit yourself be cause it kind of flare style so it safer
In the end john wick nunchuck style is not effective, john wick can be a killing machine but hes not a weapon master
@@ScenicFightsI can’t wait for you guys to drop a 50 min vid breaking down the ridiculous shit John wick did in Paris
@@kurokenjustu6290Why do you assume that was his first time with no prior experience? It’s implied he learned before. You can’t wield it the way he does without prior experience.
That’s why Splinter gave Mikey the nunchucks. Because they require focus and training, and he is the most scatterbrained turtle.
good point!
That's a retconned thing tho, what i mean is that when the creators made the quirky turtle have the nunchucks, they weren't really thinking about that lol
@@jestfullgremblim8002They absolutely weren't, but in hindsight all the weapons Splinter gave them were tonal opposites of their personalities, so it fits perfectly. Maybe subconscious on the creators' parts.
@@skraddypoo idk about that man hahaha
@@jestfullgremblim8002 Let's break it down.
Mikey gets the nunchaku, to teach a scattered and distracted turtle the necessity of focus.
Donatello gets a bo, to teach an overthinking and analytical turtle the value of simplicity.
Raphael gets a pair of sai, to give the most aggressive and angry turtle the most defensive and parrying/blocking focused weapons to teach him the value of defense and protection.
Finally, Leonardo receives a pair of ninjato or katana to teach the most scrupulous and honorbound turtle that sometimes one has to wield lethal force judiciously.
"lets talk about the pros and cons of nunchucks" *proceeds to exclusively talk about the cons*
It has the same pros of a baton without the rigidity and utility of a baton
lol facts, I heard no pros
"Let's talk about the pros and cons of Nunchakus!"
*proceeds to talk about the cons only*
Maybe don't have pros?, i think
@@Romanteolelnot many
Here are the pros, hard to master means your opponent probably doesn't know about them as much as you, the chain makes it able to moves ways a solid thing like a stick can't, like stopping mid swing and still hitting with the momentum. However this would like power in a weapon that already has a problem with having it in the first place. They're easy to carry bc they aren't big and can fold, that's sort of it. Being convenient to hold and hard to understand don't make a weapon good, especially when there are better weapons that can also do those things.
Okay lets break it down
+ light weight, easy to transport
+ harder to catch compare to a stick
+ Hit harder than a stick bcsof momentum thing
+ Have more stance than a same size stick (in eastern stile okay?) (Back hand, armpit catch, over head, archer,....)
Here is a cons
- need practice (compare with stick)(i mean you dont just have a nunchuck if you dont ever trained it duh)
- Concentrate on movement, distance (need a fare well distance to generate full power)(every weapon, even your fist need good distance to generate full power, and in every martial art, movement is key)
- you can hit yourself? (I mean if you have been trained you wont have this bullshit mistake why i even put it here?)(it have chain, if it hit the target with enough power it just slide though there for there is no bounce back and hit you :vvvvvvvv)
Zero pros
Legend has it that Michelangelo was the most talented but unfocused of the brothers, so that’s why Master Splinter had him use nunchakus, forcing him to focus with the most difficult weapon
lol
This is the easy way
Shadow fight 2 made me learn this the hard way
Ah, a man of culture
Don't you dare tell me Michaelangelo isn't a legit weapons fighter.
Lmao
These are actually very excellent for arm fitness. Daily sessions of nunchaku practice will tone the hell out of your arms.
No it doesn't. Believe me, I've learned nunchucks for a good 5 years. Just stick to push-ups.

Also High Learning Curve
In close distance, you can use your leg 😂😂😂
Thats why you gotta practice!
Nunchucks are underrated, actually.
fax
As someone who practiced for years, i agree.
Getting hit by a stick swinging 100mph still hurts like hell
It’ll hurt, but like your limbs will hurt just as much or any other weapon.
Yup. A nunchuck will break your hand bones if swong effectively
@@XRyder46 punching someone can/will break your hands bones… that’s not really an impressive thing, especially when it requires nothing to actually accomplish that.
@@draketurtle4169 I don't think you understand how much it hurts getting hit with nunchuks. You can keep engaging after a punch to the face, if someone puts all their force into a nunchuk swing you're going down. It's like getting hit with a baseball bat.
@@traviss9059 sure the first impact will hurt and bruise… but like that’s it.
In fact a punch is worse because you have the entire mass of a person and the force they can produce rather than just the swing of a free object and it’s mass that can only impact once rather than continue to impact and apply the rest of the force created into the target.
I was so worried this would be typical nunchuck apologetics but was pleasantly surprised to see real facts! :D
Zero facts.
Pak is BACK! ❤ 🥳
And even though nunchucks are limited, they’re pretty cool I gotta say lol
Nunchucks in the hands of a professional, looks so visually pleasing despite its practicality.
And there will be a lot more Pak to come :D
I heard nunchakus were never meant to be used as a weapon. Instead it was used as training too for coordination and something else.
Exactly right.. not even sure where the confusion is bc it’s literally just like any other marital art practice
P sure they were used for farming to refine wheat
Yeah, it's literally a farming implement: a grain thresher, specifically. It's part of the Okinawian weapons tradition due to it being better than nothing for when the bandits (or drunk samurai, or whatever) attack you when you're out in the field.
You're on the right track. The Nunchaku were actually designed and used as a Farm Tool. Rice grain would be placed on a canvas covered floor. Then, several Farm worker would beat the Rice with a "Rice Flail", called a Nunchaku. This beating of the Rice would separate a hard, non-eatable Rice "Jacket" from the individual Rice Grain. At times, the Farm Workers may become involved in a fight, and they would use their Nunchaku Farm Tool as a weapon.
So, the Nunchakus main purpose was as a Farm Tool, and not actually a weapon. The Nunchaku Farm Tool can be found in Okinawa, Japan, China, and other parts of Asia.
Nope. There are plenty of two-part one-handed flail weapons around the world.
You only got to hit an opponent once with those. They'll leave you alone after that🤣
😂 😂
And ironically Splinter gave them to Mike and he became a master of the Nunchuku. There's even a timeline where he mastered his brother's weapons as the Last Ronin.
Maxi has entered the chat
Maxi from Soul Calibur is a great example of the nunchucks limitation. Dude is bottom tier and outclassed by most fighters. However, he’s top tier when it comes to cool factor.
@@ScenicFights bro i will WHOOP YOU with maxi don’t do that 😂😂😂😂
Haha Cervantes all day!
@@ScenicFights oh yeah I’m deff on that ass 😂 let’s play! I’ll come to you and prove to you that Maxi needs respect
Still inferior compared to my boys Kilik, Yunsung, and Siegfried/Nightmare.
I'm glad to see someone actually being realistic about these.
I’ve actually damaged the tendon areas of both my humerus bones in both elbows from accidentally striking them with my nunchaku.
It’s larger than normal now and anytime I accidentally roll my arm on a tabletop that I was resting them on, I get the same painful tingling sensation that I got when I first hit them. My pinky and ring fingers (on their respective arm) get all cold and tingly and burn at the same time.
I remember how cold the feeling was but also my nerves burned and I laid on the ground in pain clutching my arm (each time it happened) in between my knees thinking it would make the pain go away.
Make sure you grip them high towards the chain people!
Thats why its best to use feints so if you miss one swing, you follow up with a second strike.
Not to mention the fact that they're an illegal weapon to use in a street fight anyway, so there isn't much point in carrying a pair around with you and you'd be hard pressed finding someone who does
Boy roasted nunchucks 😂
im pretty sure they were just made as a trap.
Yeah. Yeah. I heard what you said. But what if you put lasers on 'em tho?
I love how there were no pros, just jumped straight to cons 😂
It's about time that somebody explained the limitations of the Nunchaku ("Chuka Sticks").
Please keep in mind that the Nunchaku were primarily a Farming Tool from Okinawa, Japan, China, and other parts of Asia. The Nunchaku were designed to be a Rice Flail, which was used to beat Rice grain placed on a canvas covered floor. The striking of the Rice grain with the Nunchaku would separate the tough, non-eatable Rice grain "jacket" from the individual grain of Rice. At times, when Farmers, or Farm Workers needed to defend themselves, the Nunchaku came in handy as a makeshift weapon. However, the Nunchaku was primarily designed to be a Farming Tool, and not actually a weapon.
On the TV show Deadliest Warrior. They had an episode with the Mafia vs Yakuza. They tested the nunchaku vs the baseball bat. The conclusion was the baseball bat was way more effective.
I REMEMBER THIS
That episode was almost as dumb as the ninja vs spartan episode. Ninjas had guns, Spartan would have been dead
@@DwarfDaddy They guns made from bamboo with a range of about 50 feet. . Hardly as effective as any modern firearm and likely just as dangerous to the user.
@@David-xy9yo wtf are you talking about? They had actual matchlock rifles imported from Portugal
@@DwarfDaddy They had extremely primitive firearms made out of bamboo. If you didn't know that then be quiet.
JW4 at least gave us someone who wasn't trying to imitate Bruce Lee when using it to cave someone's head in.
Can you block projectiles by spinning them really fast tho?🤔
Brah....
Duh obviously you can. Never watched ninja turtles??
Shad: STICK!
Bro i just bought them 😢
You can use them for close quarters fighting as well, they're good for holds if you know what you're doing. You get one shot to the face, you're pretty much not coming back for more..
Problem is even an amateur can block their face, an amateur is more likely to just spear you anyway.
Ever time i see someone talk about nunchucks i just think about shadiversity, "but you had stick. Stick very good!"
Yes, but you cannot conceal a stick.
If the enemy closes the distance, it becomes an awesome grappling weapon.
"Lets talk about the pros and cons"
*Proceeds to only list cons*
Its worth your time I mastered these in 1 month fast they are badass cool they are extremely useful
“Mastered”😂😂😂😂
Bruce Lee chose them for the wow factor but also their difficulty preventing average joes from just picking them up and saying they are easy to use. They can be intimidating and I think that plays more into it's defensive capabilities than actual hitting with them.
if i see someone do the nunchuck thing without hurting themselves i running away
The pros: Looks cool.
The cons: Limited strikes, cheats on tests, Kicks puppies, Steals candy from babies.
It would be good to see a breakdown of some of Maxi's moves in Soul Calibur to address the lack of options with closed distance?
When we were kids, a friend brought them to elementary school. The whole class ended up with bruises and black eyes. All self inflicted. Ah, childhood, what a good time.... :D
I would love for you guys to break down how effective the playful cloud from jujutsu kaisen while comparing it to normal nunchucks
I'm seriously curious if they are more effective
The pros are worth it - it’s a great deterrent if your opponent doesn’t have a gun
Directional wise that’s all your really need…He named practically every direction. It’s good for range because you need momentum. Even swords need an opening to swing. That’s why if you’re a practitioner of the arts it wouldn’t hurt to learn something close handed in case you enable your opponent to get close to you.
Everything has a learning curve. The things that are deemed simple are complex and vice versa so look at things through both lenses and you’ll master it.
Even Musashi said, “It will be difficult at first, but everything is difficult at first.” The whole essence of martial arts is practice constantly…both with the martial arts and applying that martial arts to daily life. By doing this, you’ll be prepared regardless the situation. Always fight to your advantage.
Musashi said “they suck”
Ive been swinging these since 1972, i beg to differ to some of his issues, because of the chain the force built by momentum is devastating whereever they hit, there will be no closing the gap. You close the distance.
You’ve been wasting your time since 1972
@@JudoChefPak That's your opinion, and the good thing is with you, I won't waste my time for a moment.
@@davidish6079good since you need to practice nunchucks 🤭🤭🤭
Like you said high learning curve, most will never be that kind of skilled.
Michelangelo mad pissed watching this video
“No fighter would use this as their primary weapon”
Bruce Lee:😤
As a wise man once said, "WHY USE NUNCHUCKS WHEN YOU HAVE STICK?"
In the state of Florida nunchucks are considered more dangerous than a gun and against the law to have them...
Moment of silence for nunchuck deaths in Florida
Because of the kids fucking themselves up when trying to be Bruce Lee 😂
Ok I’m doing some research because that doesn’t sound right 😂😂😂
Michaelangelo disagrees... oh wait, he's a party dude.
Yujiro Hanma : 👀
I remember the Dog Brothers trying them out in their full contact "MMA with weapons" gatherings. End result was the same as when they tried using chains: they found that a solid stick hurts more.
Also, unlike a baton or a single stick, it can't transfer all the force of a strike to the opponent because the nunchuck just bounces off.
I tried to make my own using what we have at home. Man, it's not a weapon. If one uses nunchucks to block by blow another blow, it will sure just bounce off and you what's next.
Thank you. You get it
@@user-ko3um5sm3runtil you use a steel or wooden nunchaku, everything else is just for practice.
That’s not completely true u have to hit quite fast to really push out the strike and catch the momentum it’s just the learning curve again
No it won't. The ones he has will, but not a real set.
Anything worth learning takes time.
You have more striking options than that.
Any weapon can be rendered useless at a certain distance.
Good video
If bruce lee has it there are 0 cons others i dont know
Getting hit by nunchucks at full speed can crack your skull so I would be careful lol
Well, you could use them as chopsticks 🍜
As someone who practiced nunchuks... Sadly this is real..
Pros :-
It's useful mainly while fighting 2-3 'unarmed' opponents.
Main advantage is it's unpredictability. Once chambered it can launch attack in any direction.
Steel or aluminium nunchuks can deal some serious damage.
Reaches a good bit further than your fist range.
Cons :-
Weaker strikes.. Strikes will be significantly weaker compared to a stick of the same length.
Only circular strikes.. Can't do straight/poking strikes with nunchuks.
It lacks any close range attacks. You can strangle someone with chain if you get lucky.
Can't block really. You have to get into a very unnatural posture for blocks.
Chain can snap rendering your weapon useless.
Verdict :- Better than fighting bare hands.
All cons are solved by a simple short stick. Weapons like tonfa, sai, hanbo are far better in this 'blunt force non lethal' category of weapons.
Everyone says “if you miss and the opponent closes the distance then you’re finished” as if the opponent will know and be able to close the distance in the split second before your reset for another strike.
Well if u don’t suck u can
I like this
Thanks for this! I'm not a fan of nunchucks. One more thing you can add here is that it won't be an effective weapon to block another weapon blow. Many are just amazing in playing with it, but to use it against another type of weapon might even bring you damage. You may still use it if you have no choice but to fight for your life, ONLY IF you know how to use it right. Good luck.
On a side note, some other plus sides are the concealability (relative to the full length compared to other devices) and if you hit someone, you suffer less from hand shock.
That being said, I would rather have a regular stick. Not just for practical reasons, but because there are places that actually ban "ninja weapons" and sometimes they include nunchuks in that category.
A baton, a walking stick, a wrench....anything form of normal sticks are better at concealability. And even when the authority pulls you in, they won't suspect a thing because you're carrying a tool, not a weapon. That can't be said for the nunchucks
Concealability is completely pointless when the weapon is fundamentally useless and the only thing you accomplish is look like a weirdo for concealing a weapon (and useless one at that) but hey enjoy getting it confiscated by police
Just because you keep hitting yourself in the head does not mean they're useless. It just means you are useless with them.@@draketurtle4169
This is a little off topic but speaking of weapons you can easily hit yourself with that are quite possibly very impractical, has anybody seen rope dart combat attentively adapted as a game mechanic? I doubt I have the capacity to make that functional within several years, but I find it to be a very interesting and dynamic weapon used almost exclusively by psychos. I feel like it could be very interesting and not totally impossible to have a physics based system with that where you can use the rope to wrap around and pull or swing stuff, pivot off enemies and pillars, choke if it's wrapped around an enemy long enough, and of course cut stuff. Should I try to use my very limited patience with and understanding of UE5 to do that or has it been done already?
Doesn't a flail work in the same way?
@@vevan99 can't really say anything to that point. Just looked up flail and it looks like there's a similar basic design with a handle, cable like thing and a heavy thing on the end (I use cable to refer to ropes and whips and chains because I imagine they all fall under the category of cable physics, as it's termed in the engine). Although I will say that all the results I got for flail had shorter chains than I'm thinking of. It looks like a meteor hammer is a longer variation of a flail though
I just learned what it is, but I'd say that with a flail, the intent is to confuse the opponent about the timing and defense you would take against it, cause that's a little less conventional than a standard sword or a mace with a fixed end that keeps its shape. If the spiky ball end will keep going even if you block the solid part or the chain, you have to worry about it wrapping around and/or hitting as the momentum of the worst part isn't stopped. There's definitely similar elements, but I think a rope dart or a meteor hammer is specifically for very long range, possibly with more power built up because of how much force is needed to account for a gradual decrease in pressure as the force is moved down the change. I'm not really a weapons or physics expert so you might as well consider this hearsay from a wannabe who doesn't account for every detail, but if there's anything to discuss about this stuff I'm happy to do it. I might look into flail techniques for some animation references now
Chuck norris+nunchuk= unstoppable
Steel nunchucks could break and or fracture limbs, ribs, skull it’s a good weapon if you consider all the possibilities
Just get a collapsible baton
your not wrong, wood ones do to tho
Awesome 👍
Damn this man was honest shocked
Nun chuk combine with jiu-jitsu... dangerous combo
As a man in some HEMA garb of sorts once said, "the nunchucks is just a broken stick thats tied together. You want to know whats better than that? A non-broken, whole stick." Paraphrased
Imagine taking a swinging stick to the head/arms at high speeds then tell me if you’d want to keep fighting.
It will only happen in your imagination cuz I don’t suck at fighting
As someone that did like 1 year of escrima, power is everything in your strike with the weapon you use. I can only imagine if you use full power with a nunchuck, you end up hitting yourself regardless if you manage to hit the tartget or not.
Well the problem isn’t you can hit yourself but more than it’s not got a solid connection to you… it can’t transfer your mass into the strike and the only impact is the initial one, it can’t even apply the force of the striking part effectively
Great short, nice job, guys.
LOve, Martina
These are absolutely practical for practicing, they release endorphens, improve coordination, etc. yes, huge learning curve, but that is with many weapons though.
They become a different weapon at close range. But that’s at the end of the learning curve you mentioned.
Aren't the angles of attack no different from your fist? If you can swing your arm, you can swing the chucks, right?
They are still useless weapons
Your arm would be a better weapon though
You just answered your own question yes you use them as you would in boxing, seems impossible but that’s the practical way to use them in combat which will take some learned skills especially using two which I have mastered.
If you have ever been hit with a decent pair of numchucks then you know that it FKN HURTS 🤕. I got popped in the head with a decent pair of wooden ones being swung extremely slowly and it left a knot on my head for days. Gave me a new respect for this weapon 😂
My sifu said nunchuks are useless too.
Michaelangelo always made them look cool.
The directions it can go when he said, “that’s pretty much it” made me think that every melee weapon is the same; so how is that a limitation? I still would choose something else over that for melee.
Let's just say there's a great reason Michaelangelo has a Californian surfer dude accent despite being from New York city. TBI.
If your opponent closes in, best to trap and pinch whatever is close. Also good for blocking or catching other weapons. Better as defensive than offensive weapon.
@shadiversity will love you for this! Je also has a love to play with, yet realistic approach to using "chucks"
couldn't agree more with Pak
Meanwhile John Wick just uses it like a flail and simply bashing someones head with it.
Me: explains this to party animals developers. Them: na, they knock out both of you guys
Ultimately I feel like if you use it as a secondary tool and incorporate martial arts with it can be effective but I am just talking out of experience cause I am pretty decent myself with them nunchucks myself but there’s a high chance of you hitting your self if you don’t hit them with enough speed and and the end of the nunchucks directly which takes a bit to get used to but even then they are also light and don’t do that much damage unless you have a pair metal chucks near you which is very unpractical and it also depends on how much force you put into your swing to which takes great skill so in reality it’s only worth it if your just that guy 🤷🏽♂️
Heh. Gotta admit, I think John Wick had the right idea. Screw technique, they're blunt sticks, just throw 'em at people and whack them on the head!
I've been training nunchuks everyday for hours for 4 years I care to argue that it's not useless close range. You can hit the neck and catch the other handle for an insane Muay Thai clinch. Having both handles in one hand as a short club is effective too. You can hit the knee and if it wraps around easy single leg takedown. Any joint you manage to wrap it around and squeeze the handles is going to break. But the best strategy with chucks is teep kicks and use of off hand and head movement
So basically, if you missed, you had skill issue
There are law enforcement agencies that use them currently. You can choke with them, do joint locks, and use them in stabbing motions with the butt ends. Don't focus on the flash and they can be quite effective. The chain just offers variety.
Which law enforcement agency? And how useless are they?
@@vksasdgaming9472no wonder they shoot everyone they are useless
Was expecting a Shad essay in the comments. Thank god there isn’t one
You can actually use these in one quarters, you can use the ends to bludgeon the attacker in the head or face or choke them with it.
How do you block an incoming stick with a nunchaku?
They can still do a lot of damage, but they have a cap on how much damage they can do because of their physics. I think the training to use nunchuks is more of training your mind and self than to actually prepare to use them for combat.
Somebody tell Shadiversity so he can make a 50 minute video breaking down why this short is the greatest thing since sliced bread and why the stick is the mightiest weapon ever 😂
