I think I've watched this video 100 times. It truly brings out the essence of a motorcycle road trip. A great motorcycle, a great woman and a great road. Life doesn't get any better than this.
No one can truly appreciate the imagined pleasure of sweeping around long, inviting curves on a welcoming road that beacons you and your motorcycle unless that has been a personal experience. Now, at 70 years old, and currently riding my 17th motorcycle, I am enjoying riding more than ever before. Thanks, Ren (Son), for sending the link along to me. Lets ride.
Saw this 10 years ago and had to have a new 1200RT. Many miles later we are still riding our 2005 R1200RT and love it.
I’ve owned three RT’s since I saw this video…it’s the video that made me first try the RT. Best bike I’ve ever ridden.

I bought mine 18 months ago (2008). I waited 30 years to get another bike, and boy, did I pick a good one. It's truely like flying... Can't beat the performance, ride, comfort and features. I am the luckiest guy in the world, at least that is the way I feel when I am on a ride....
Still like to watch it after 4 years... Classic.!!
The R 1200 RT will be my next bike. If I'm going to spend $24K on a new bike, it's going to be one with 21st century technology, not 19th century. My Harley riding buds think I'm nuts, but I know quality when I see it.

I saw the video, I got the bike! it was just that simple. I have a 2009 R1200RT and I love it! even seeing the new one(2010) I am still love mine. I have owned many bikes in over the last 30/yrs and this one is simply the best I have ever owned! Ride it and you will buy it. it"s just the simple. a long haul truck driver....

I love this bike, everything feels right when riding it.
Great video. I think I'll still stick to my R1150R, at least until I run 100,000 miles on her. then maybe the R1200RT. that said, ya gotta love those R bikes. Outstanding machines.
An R1200RT is an "Autobahn locomotive", not an offroader, nor a race bike.
If you want *that* in your bike, buy a BMW F800GS or a BMW K1300S.
But for riding long stretches on motorways/country roads/city traffic, the R1200RT is excellent and easy to handle.
No, it won't go from zero to the graveyard in under three seconds like an MV Agusta F4 750 brutale, but if you choose an R1200RT, that's not what you're looking for.

The ad Guzzi should have made for the Norge. Can't be a coincidence BMW chose to use a red bike, of all colours!
Each manufacturer portrays their machines as the only ones that can deliver a fulfilling tour experience. BMW is up there with the best of them, but there are many brands to choose from.

Great to know that there is somewhere for the well healed BMW driving banker to go on their touring bikes. I wonder would an FJR a PAN or a Varadero been able to cope with the extremes the BMW took in its stride here. I think the thing that separates these bikes is not their capabilities but the depth of their owners pockets.

my gparents have always rode on same bike. there is NO shame in that. and these two look like the cutest happiest couple. my German gparents have been married since they were 18 and i wish this beautif couple the same. Ditto what AKAbimmer said.. I watched about 15 seconds before I put it in mt favorites file. My R100 is about a week away from being completely rebiuld and restored. No short cuts and no expence was spared. I figured with 171 thousand miles on it, it was time to "make it new" again. I should have a video posted on it in a month or so.
On my second RT. Amazing bike!!
It's Norway , the itineray was on the 1200 RT brochure of 2006 ! Then I travelled around norway In 2007 . THis movie is certainly the best movie made for romantic tourism in Norway !

In Australia here, police retire their bikes every year, and you can bid for one cheaply every year at a fraction of the RRP, but police versions are only single seated, and have a slightly different rear end, more thinner boxes at the sides.

@mikehansonrules - You are not kidding on cost of service. So far my K 12 had- Tranny seal and slave cylinder- $2200, Front Telelever shock Used $675, 4 sets of tires at $245/tire, rear trunk latch $975, Steering damper $395, fuel ling quick disconnect $37/ unit, Left hand grip $80, 24K service $1400 with discount, Did my own canister-ectomy $0, Countless oil changes at $55 plus filter. Oh and the stereo crapped out before I traded it. Insane is right.
I can't beleive that there are 10 ppl that didn't like this video, they must have been Harley lovers lol. Oh well, to each there own.....BMW's rule, best Bikes in the World

I've had the 2010 for 6 months, i think the 1200gs is very slightly better handling But the wind protection & features are great has everything and is deceptively fast, id go quicker on this everywhere then on the k1300r i traded. Would i get another one ? -probably no, i'm looking at trading back to another GS. Everyone thinks your a police bike lol but all the same it's a great bike & hard to fault -just the gs suits me better

I love my 84 r100rt, I can put a full face helmet in the krauser luggage...big old bing carbs 70hp 56ftlbs of torque...work on it myself...powder coated the wheels, has a bright blue metallic paintjob, those BMW R series bikes are special, I mean even for my old bike they make fork braces and upgraded swing arms its amazing the support they still get. But this newage RT...looks like a serious bike woudl love to ride one. but ya know...the old beemers just keep working...so...ill save the $

I have an '08 Goldwing and as smooth as it is, you just don't get the "feeling" of being on a motorcycle. I don't know if it's the appeal of the bike or that this is just an amazing video, but I thinking of trading the Wing on the RT. Nuts, but therein lies the power of powerful advertising.

@txplants I really like the video and in particular the song that starts around 3:37. After listening several times I began writing the lyrics down in order to Google them. What I eventually learned was the advertising company that created the video has a house band. So, the song was made just for the video and is not available. This was according to a post I found somewhere on the web. I have a 2006 RT and love it.

I came to this video because I was talking to a guy on the street today that said he had one. He was looking at my own BMW, an 84 R100RS without the fairing. I couldn't think of what an RT looked like so I asked him. He said it looked a lot like mine except for the fairing which he described as "odd looking". So here I am and man, this thing looks nothing like mine beyond the engine configuration. What happened to BMW's styling? This thing looks like it was designed by a bunch of car guys.
See, you delivered some real arguments for it ;) More that video did.
The R1200GS in my opinion is one of few bikes that qualifies as a tourer and manages 7500 km days without being boring. It can still handle easy offroading, or whip that 22-year old on a R1 they can´t handle on a track ;).
I just find it a bit annoying when things (whatever kind) is argued to be "the best" without any evidence or actual arguments what so ever.

RT.....it seems the BMW has the right mix of "motorcycle", comfort, and road prowess....I love it.

@redwingryders Bikes are for riding not just for looking at. Don't comment unless you have ridden something like this. by the sounds of it you don't posses the capacity to comprehend that there might be a world of motorcycling besides race reps and cruisers.

Funny that you talk about over-hormoned teenagers as you yourself used to be one. My wife & I have the same experiences on my CBR600rr. It's not necessarily not the bike that makes the rider, it's the rider that makes the bike. "Over-hormoned teenagers" can love too, not just ride like blinding idiots. Choose carefully the words you say, experiences like this can happen on any motorcycle. Thanks for riding!

I prefer this version with the head-light more than current version. Head-light of current version is so ugly!!
