  • Touring is fantastic at the best of times, but if you have the right bike it makes everything ten times better! Toby took Barney, his Ex Police BMW 1200 RTP on tour. How did he get on?

    I've got a 2011 RT-p. I got it in April (6 months ago) and I've done 10k miles on it and its brilliant. Non cruise control RT-Ps have a bolt screw on the throttle as a manual cruise control. Did Edinburgh to Worcester in one go without a break, got about 56mpg at a steady 70

    Authorities bikes have lower final gearing, so you'll never achieve quite the same fuel economy because your revs will always be slightly higher than a non-RT/P. I'm tempted to get a Barney now. I'll keep watching the Barney series and see if you can convince me. I'm a little worried about resale value. Great video... thanks.

      Awesome. Thanks for the info. I wouldn’t worry about the resale value as they seem to hold their value here in the I’m really well

    Hi
    I am really enjoying your videos on the ex police bike.
    Just had a video pop up in my feed where a guy in Australia removed the hump cover, attached some Velcro to the aluminium base plate and then attached a home made seat (he wanted to take pillion).
    Made me think that the next step would be to attach a large seat bag to give you the extra storage.

    Thank you for the update on Barney. I look forward to further updates particularly as I am considering the RT- P myself but unsure how reliable they may be due to the use they have had. Really enjoy your videos. Safe riding.

      Great bike and as reliable as any other. You could argue that they are some of the only bikes that have been used as the manufacturer intended. Fully serviced and as good as any other :)

    Where can I get that rack you have in the radio box? I have an RT-P as well and would love one of those to stop things from sliding around on the metal plate so much.

    What brand of seat cover are you using - I find the gap between the seat and buffer piece between the seat and the box (which has the hump release) is too tight to fit a seat cover.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  8 месяцев назад

      It’s a triboseat. From amazon

    Is the rear radio box removable to put in a back seat?

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  2 месяца назад

      Yes mate it is although it’s an expensive job as you have to get a seat rack grab handles etc

    What’s under the the plate in the hump on the back

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  8 месяцев назад

      All the auxiliary wiring and battery as the hump used to house the police radio equipment so is really handy for extra wiring like dash cams etc

    To get Barney into Spain did you go on a ferry / ship over to Spain or tour through via France...
    Just asking as I am at some stage going to tour out of 🇬🇧
    And wondered via a ferry direct to Spain is costly ..??..
    Cheers 😉👍
