It is worth mentioning that you cannot fill the corners in at John Cain arena becuase it also is set up to be a Velodrome for Cycling. The stands sit over the track and can be removed for cycling events. If you look at the pictures of the arena in this video you can make out where the cycling track is. Also went to the Australia vs England Netball game at Qudos Bank Arena in September, that is an amazing arena, for its age it looks, feels and operates so well.
Adelaide people are putting pressure on the south Australian government to upgrade the Adelaide entertainment centres capacity to around 18,000 to get the bigger artists/concerts into Adelaide!!
Brisbane EC seats are the same since it opened on the 80's. The Bullets just moved back there this season. It's a better venue then Nissan Arena where they were previously, which held about 4-5k. It is the spiritual home of the Bullets, I think most of the fans are happy they are back there.
Great Video Mate (The Photo of the State Basketball Centre at 1:32 is mine!) I quite like the SBC because it gives you a vibe that you don't get at the NBL in big arenas. It's small and you'll miss a quarter of the game to get some hot chippies but I really enjoy having these smaller arenas hosting big league games. For 3 Games in the area that the Phoenix are representing, I'm happy with it. It also just had a renovation recently and operation was taken over from the local council to State Sport Centres which makes it a bit better imo. You also forgot to mention that the Phoenix play at John Cain Arena too. John Cain Arena does look a bit weird, but it is made to host a range of events from concerts to cycling and of course Basketball and Netball, but it works really well for everything and is a good all-rounder. Also, the roof opens for Basketball at least once a year for Melbourne United's Open Air Game, and the Phoenix are doing one as well. You also forgot to mention the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium where the Phoenix play one game a year, but it's very minor so not a big deal. I hate to be a nerd and point out all these small things, I just try to help where I can, but it is a great video nonetheless. Maybe you could do some regional stadium/arena rankings next? Once again, really enjoyed, sorry to be a nerd pointing out these minor corrections, and can't wait for the next video!
Sadly your first video that I have come across with a bit of poor research - JCA was a velodrome for the 2006 Melbourne Comm Games hence the corners not being filled in - It is also the home playing court of the SEM Phoenix whaereas SBC is their home base along with the 2023 & 2024 NBL1 Champions the Knox Raiders. RLA was also used as an NBL Arena - Home to some of the biggest games on the calendar back in the 90's - Went to many huge nights between the Tigers and Magic and the atmosphere on those nights was bigger than anything the current NBL would wish for today.
You must be young as Rod Laver arena was the NBL arena in the 90’s. It sold out weekly with the Tigers and Magic killing it in the halcyon days of the NBL. It’s pretty obvious you’re from WA, biased much.
If you think some of these arenas are a bit ugly? You should see the Newcastle Entertainment Centre. It's basically a massive barn on the showground. We could do with a new arena. But we don't have an NBL team here
Even after 24 years since the olympics Qudos arena is still the best and largest Arena in the Country. Interestly Moore Park entertainment quarter could be getting a redevelopment soon and Sydney could be getting a new arena similar to the CO-OP LIVE in Manchester. would the Sydney Kings move back east if that happens?
RAC Arena doesn't have a small footprint for an arena. It has a larger footprint than many NBA/NHL arenas. It may have a lower capacity but it has generous concourse space
Why does Australians always compare themselves to the United States and everything worry about Australian? Nobody cares about NFL NBA NHL if you really care about your own sports.
@@aaronlewis2501 merely your projection. The narrator said it had a small footprint. I stated this was incorrect by comparing it to the most standardised typological comparison available to illustrate it's actually rather large footprint, particularly for 15500 capacity Arena
As previously mentioned, it’s almost a joke you didn’t mention that JCA is actually a velodrome. Now yes, they hardly ever use it for that purpose but that’s what it is built as, hence the issues with the corners. Oh, and the Phoenix also play there but if the rest of Melbourne (and the NBL) don’t care about them, why should you!!!
Brisbane Live is not going to be used for basketball. It will be used for swimming mainly for the Olympics. The Bullets want to own the stadium they eventually move to. This won't happen with Brisbane Live, which will be used for concerts and such after the Olympics. Research is key.
With MyState bank Arena you have forgotten The Former nbl team the Hobart Devils Because the devils were home there from 1989 all away to the Devils Last ever season in the nbl
The planning on the Southport arena looks terrible the arena itself lovely and fits in but everything else. No. And the positioning right in front of aus fair? So much reworking of Southport would need to happen
Bris Ent Cent is an absolute dump. It's in the middle of nowhere, poorly serviced by public transport and due to location, you're bound by its food vendors while there
36ers moved back to the Entertainment Centre in 2019 through they still train at Adelaide Arena in Findon which is also the home of the Lightning of the WNBL

RAC is trash. It’s horrible inside. You said it doesn’t look tacky but it absolutely does. I can cop the outside, as the outside adds little to the game watching experience. You list a whole bunch of criteria about other arenas (not grounds as you constantly refer to them as) and then just breeze past most of your own list for this. The massive blue wall make no sense at all, the roof height almost makes it look like a shaft, and knowing that the Wildcats would move in and they went for BLUE? I guess they were going for the same colour at the tennis courts but Christ it looks bad when they play at home… simply because there is SO MUCH BLUE! 17:20
And one big criticism given to other arenas was the seating not being a perfect bowl while the seating in RAC is all over the place. QBA gets points knocked off it because it's not located right near the CBD and instead at Olympic park which is closer to the geographical centre of Sydney in terms of population. Meanwhile RAC doesn't even get a mention about how unorganised the interior and seating looks.

Came in to say this lol

John Cain Arena was built for cycling track
Given Rod Laver is almost 40 years old it's still pretty good. Tennis Australia has really looked after it especially recently.
Great video!

Welcome back mate.. was wondering where you'd been.
Rod Laver Arena was originally a basketball arena in the 90s.

Newys is so sad it didn’t even make the list 😢😂
@jamszyoung8701 yeah I wasn't surprised. I was reminded of how bad it is on Friday night when I went to a concert there
The Newcastle Entertainment Centre is an old dodgy falling apart tin shed
@matttaylor6244 indeed it is. And I say this as somebody from Newy
Qudos Arena is the only arena in Oceania that is comparable to an average NBA arena
Well according to the video, RAC Arena is better 😌
@@PjRjHj And in my opinion Qudos Bank Arena is still the best and its also the largest.
@@PjRjHj That's his opinion tbf. I don't agree with him and would put QBA first but it is what it is.
What about the AIS Arena?
1:09 not home of SEM Phoenix anymore it is John Cain arena same as Melbourne United
RAC Arena doesn't have a small footprint for an arena. It has a larger footprint than many NBA/NHL arenas. It may have a lower capacity but it has generous concourse space
In fairness, it doesn't feel that big from the freeway, it sort of goes back a long way and the concourses overhang the exterior ticket areas a bit

Pause it on 1:33 and Josh giddy is at that game just behind phoenix’s bench wearing a blue jumper talking to a guy in a white shirt.

Can we get a video on your thoughts on the new PNG team
Missing 36ers Arena, which in terms of viewing lines would be the best stadium in the country to watch basketball.
With MyState bank Arena you have forgotten The Former nbl team the Hobart Devils Because the devils were home there from 1989 all away to the Devils Last ever season in the nbl
MSAC used to hold smaller basketball games but truly not up to the Standard.
Nissan Arena?
The planning on the Southport arena looks terrible the arena itself lovely and fits in but everything else. No. And the positioning right in front of aus fair? So much reworking of Southport would need to happen
No mention of Margaret Court Arena or Kia Arena
We don’t mention her name in public. We just pretend it’s a different MC.
In baseball they home court or gym not home ground
Bris Ent Cent is an absolute dump. It's in the middle of nowhere, poorly serviced by public transport and due to location, you're bound by its food vendors while there
No 3. was NBL court home court of Melbourne Tigers and South East Melbourne Magic do your research better
Home ground???? It’s not a stadium. Home court u mean.
Margaret court arena?????
big correction, adelaide 36ers play in a different building a few suburbs away, the building you covered was the entertainment centre for concerts
36ers moved back to the Entertainment Centre in 2019 through they still train at Adelaide Arena in Findon which is also the home of the Lightning of the WNBL
@@TOTN17 oh my bad, had no idea
Good video but 36ers dont play at Adelaide entertainment centre

not 2025 yet
