I hate all the warpaints in tf2 but in this video I could imagine myself wishing I had one of these warpaints. We need quality as that is what players deserve, not just any sloppy texture put on a weapon.

I really hope the Krampus map sets a standard for what vscript maps should be, and hopefully in the future Smissmass can have it's own identity as an event without being a tryhard wannabe of Scream Fortress. Imagine if this event got it's own cast of bosses alongside the Krampus, like Old Nick or the Yeti.
I just want Smissmas contracts similar to Halloween. 100 kills will get you a stocking. Valve is really tripping over their own feet with all the people that would be playing on December if Smissmas got the Halloween treatment when it comes to contracts.

Personally, i like the looping taunts and interactive partner taunts because i don't confine them in the strict definition as "taunts" and more like communicative emotes that can express either cockiness like taunts or friendly funny continuous taunts like the vehicles and the drunken stagger, but your selection of taunts, the "so close" and the snapshot actually fits both, so i commend you for the exquisite taste.
You made a really good point about taunts. Although I really like most taunts (scotmanns stagger, homerunners hobby) most taunts made by the community are mostly just emotes, not taunts
I’d like to add one addition to this pool: pl_extinction. It’s not a holiday or winter themed map, but these Smissmas updates have usually come with one non-winter map, and I feel Extinction is the Summer Update map we didn’t get, and instead got Cashworks (an old-school map, in a bad way) and Venice (a bad map in general). And as someone who’s played on the map a few times, it has excellent, well-thought sight lines, flanking opportunities, spawns, the whole shebang.
Zesty, if you are going to make a bingo chart for smissmas, then please add "reskin map", "Pajamas", and "Too detailed cosmetic/cosmetic that does not fit the class" as there are a lot of these on the workshop and some of them probably will get in. Lets see if we hit a bingo this year!
Don't forget the "Random cosmetic that should've been added with a set but instead is alone" like the all the heavy hats. Why tf does he have 20 "crazy Siberian man" hats but not even a single misc to back it up.

What bothers me is that Zesty voicing these criticisms, and like-minded people agreeing with them is commonly written off as RUclipsr worship. I've had "hot takes" about quality control and artstyle coherency *years* before someone like Zesty with a platform decided "enough is enough". Thank fuck he did, by the way. Why is it even considered a hot take to not want a ton of holiday themed stuff in the game anymore? Or that unusual effects post-EOTL have usually fallen into a gradient of "too busy" or "too awful", with few exceptions? Taunts are gaudy and all over the place, ESPECIALLY the unusual effects. This isn't a hot take until you verbalize it, but the cheapness of them speaks for itself. The Devs need to do better, but players need to have higher standards. Not everything that glitters is gold.
Because it is nit picking. That is why. Your prissy standards are too high. OG taunt effects were not glamorous. You had sunbeams but feet, a tornado, a tornado but darker, dead presidents but feet, cloud nine but feet, and robo effects but feet. Unusual effects have gotten BETTER with time. You cannot tell me that treasure trove is less cool than sunbeams. Taunts are just as goofy as back in the day. Demo riding a cannon into battle makes more sense than demo popping through a teleporter going "wooo" with mexican garb on. The only thing the "Devs" need to do better on is getting rid of problem people like cheaters/toxics. The fact that Venusian Rapper existed for months and it took a combined effort by the community to remove him but NOT the devs is shameful. The fact that cheaters still exist in 2023 is shameful. Agreed. The creator of it, Aydan, also made Warborn and Mechanized Monster which were both put into the summer 2023 case. Would be perfection if Valve decided to pay him extra and have him create the entire warpaint case for an update.

A trend I'm seeing in maps after the summer update is that more mappers are trying to add cute animals to get more votes i wouldn't exactly mind it but a plot point in tf2 comics is that animals are becoming harder and harder to come play because the rich people are buying them in put them in zoos and valve kept that in mind when they made the cutout cows of their maps but it seems that reddit wholesome 100 cute animals is what the game wants at this sage of it's life

As someone who dabbles in trading and still loves casual, this is what an “update” should look like. Not 20 effects, not gingerbread weapons, and DEFINITELY NOT shitty maps that my dog could make.

All I want for smismas is a rebalance for a few of the terrible and forgotten weapons like the red tape recorder. And to bring the caber back to it's hilarious glory.
Gonna be honest, dreamy moon and chili night looks similar to some previous effects… *cough* morning glory and cloudy moon. But I will allow it as those effects are wayyyy too expensive due to the economy so if it’s a knock off cloudy moon. I’m saying yes to that.
I want EVERY weapon that doesn't have it to get a Strangifier/Science Kit. I want fixes for all maps, and especially replacement of Wutville with a vetter version that is out there. And finally, I want Valve to not add crap that doesn't belong in tf2 like Prop Hunt and cosmetics that can be colored on the Major zones.
About the taunts thing, I completely agree. Taunts, evident in the god damn name, are used to provoke your opponent. Hot take but: The game is designed so that taunting after getting a kill is completely in spirit with the game's characters and interactions. Hell, there's achievements for doing so. This being said, people should not be getting mad when you schadenfreude after dominating them. It's just in the game. When someone does it to me, I see it as a challenge, a little mid-game rivalry, and something that the devs intended from the start.
I like Zesty Jesus because unlike many other people on the internet who think their opinion is the only correct one and can only defend it with insults, ZJ actually backs up their opinions with legitimate arguments. Even if I disagree with the opinions, the fact that the argument is sound leads me to respect them even though they’re different than mine. Or something, idk what the hell I’m yapping about.

What bothers me is that Zesty voicing these criticisms, and like-minded people agreeing with them is commonly written off as RUclipsr worship.
I've had "hot takes" about quality control and artstyle coherency *years* before someone like Zesty with a platform decided "enough is enough". Thank fuck he did, by the way.
Why is it even considered a hot take to not want a ton of holiday themed stuff in the game anymore?
Or that unusual effects post-EOTL have usually fallen into a gradient of "too busy" or "too awful", with few exceptions?
Taunts are gaudy and all over the place, ESPECIALLY the unusual effects. This isn't a hot take until you verbalize it, but the cheapness of them speaks for itself.
The Devs need to do better, but players need to have higher standards. Not everything that glitters is gold.

OG taunt effects were not glamorous. You had sunbeams but feet, a tornado, a tornado but darker, dead presidents but feet, cloud nine but feet, and robo effects but feet.
Unusual effects have gotten BETTER with time. You cannot tell me that treasure trove is less cool than sunbeams.
Taunts are just as goofy as back in the day. Demo riding a cannon into battle makes more sense than demo popping through a teleporter going "wooo" with mexican garb on.
The only thing the "Devs" need to do better on is getting rid of problem people like cheaters/toxics. The fact that Venusian Rapper existed for months and it took a combined effort by the community to remove him but NOT the devs is shameful. The fact that cheaters still exist in 2023 is shameful. The fact that casual is still busted and filled with bots is shameful. THESE are the things that need to get fixed first. Quality of Life changes always come first. Petty misgivings about your own subjective views on cosmetics and aesthetics need to be kept to your edgy goth journal and nothing more.

I never said everything pre-EOTL was perfect, either. I don't like taunt effects *period*, but they were tolerable (similar to the bad effects back in the day) when they were lower volume.
And me agreeing with a video on a specific topic doesn't automatically mean I don't care about all the other problems the game has, believe it or not.

Agreed. The creator of it, Aydan, also made Warborn and Mechanized Monster which were both put into the summer 2023 case. Would be perfection if Valve decided to pay him extra and have him create the entire warpaint case for an update.

A trend I'm seeing in maps after the summer update is that more mappers are trying to add cute animals to get more votes i wouldn't exactly mind it but a plot point in tf2 comics is that animals are becoming harder and harder to come play because the rich people are buying them in put them in zoos and valve kept that in mind when they made the cutout cows of their maps but it seems that reddit wholesome 100 cute animals is what the game wants at this sage of it's life

I will say I got to play on krampus during an arr stream and the boss literally got 0 kill across 3 rounds.

Gonna be honest, dreamy moon and chili night looks similar to some previous effects… *cough* morning glory and cloudy moon. But I will allow it as those effects are wayyyy too expensive due to the economy so if it’s a knock off cloudy moon. I’m saying yes to that.

About the taunts thing, I completely agree. Taunts, evident in the god damn name, are used to provoke your opponent.
Hot take but: The game is designed so that taunting after getting a kill is completely in spirit with the game's characters and interactions. Hell, there's achievements for doing so. This being said, people should not be getting mad when you schadenfreude after dominating them. It's just in the game. When someone does it to me, I see it as a challenge, a little mid-game rivalry, and something that the devs intended from the start.
