    Put a long bolt through a box end wrench and screw it into one of the top bell housing bolt holes. Get another bolt and slip it through the other end of the box end wrench. With the wrench at approximately horizontal, attach that bolt to one of the pressure plate bolt holes. Rotate the flywheel until the bolts are tight against the bolts so the flywheel will not rotate.
    Use a long pull handle and remove the flywheel bolts by rotating them counter clockwise.
    Done!

    Thanks for making the video. If you use the metal bracket, would you replace the bolts you use in that bracket afterwards? After the bolts are removed, what do you do when the flywheel stays in place?

    • @CarsNToys
      @CarsNToys  6 лет назад

      Try tapping the rear of the flywheel with a mallet. Place something soft to catch the flywheel so it doesn't crash on to your garage floor. (An old towel, tshirts, etc.)

    • @steverose2405
      @steverose2405 6 лет назад +2

      After a fair bit of mallet tapping and penetrating oil application, it has not budged. It has likely been on that crankshaft since 1966. I will make a simple puller and post a video.

      My air compressor got a hole in it when I was working on a Suzuki 1.3 liter. My impact was down due to the compressor. I remembered how I disassembled chainsaws by removing the plug and made sure I turned it to get as much cord-string as possible inside. It always works on saws, so I thought why not try it on a vehicle. First time I tried was the Chevy Metro with Suzuki motor and it worked like a charm. Pulled the cord out after finished and it run like a charm. Done it with couple cars now to hold engine in place and it works every time.

    Never put anything on the front crank pulley to remove a fly wheel. You run the VERY REAL risk of breaking the torque on the main crank bolt .... lock the flywheel/flexplate in position with a tool of some kind..even put the transmission mounting bolts in and put a big screw driver in the teeth..ANYTHING but use something on the front crank bolt.

    While I totally appreciate the effort put into this video, forget it, just get air tools. I was under the truck today fucking around with ratchets and breaker bars and there's no way I was getting that flywheel off, I borrowed an air powered 1/2" impact gun from my work, I already have my own compressor, that gun zipped those bolts right off like they were nothing, no need to brace the flywheel or anything, then I tapped the flywheel off with a 4 lb sledge thru the starter hole in the witness plate, worked like a charm.

      I was always worried that an impact might round off the heads of the bolts. I thought the heads of the bolts seemed kind of shallow. I have a set of harbor freight impacts and they have a bevel at the end, so I was worried if I ever used them it might round these off. I even saw where someone talked about taking an angle grinder to a socket to remove the bevel and cut back the deep well so that it is flat at the end of the socket. Good to know.

    First idiot mechanic trick at 20s in. Anybody with some common sense would try to undo the bolts 'across' the centre line, not torquing the engine round! Likely a wooden block under the flywheel and a smart impulse strike on the proper spanner for the job would do it. Another spanner to hold another bolt would help.

  • @josephrobinson8894
    @josephrobinson8894 Год назад

    Another way to remove the bolts is remove the bolts at 3 , 4, and 5 o’clock first Then rotate the flywheel til the other bolts are at the same position and remove those. Just make sure the breaker bar is at a level position, 9 to 3 o’clock !!!!
