I have a strong feeling one reason Dr McDougall was so caring of his patients and mankind was because he had experienced real pain and suffering from the stroke he had at such a young age. He empathized with those who came to him wanting to be healed , not to be put on meds for the rest of their lives. He gave them hope and encouragement and a way to accomplish their health goals of a quality life.

Not a dry eye in the house - so true. Dr. McDougall had, and still has, a very large presence in my life. I think about everything I put in my mouth and whether Dr. McDougall would approve. I do my best to share his teachings when people ask. As an RN I have many opportunities to educate patients and I always talk to them about Dr. McDougall, I reference his books, and discuss my experiences, including the first online 12 day program which I participated in. Dr. McDougall lives on - I don’t think there is a day goes by where I don’t think about something he taught me, a recipe from Mary, or something I need to share with my children, grandchildren, family members, friends, and patients. Thank you AJ for this ❤

Very nice tributes. I’ll always remember that when I decided to become plant based I was cleaning my house and found Dr McDougalls book before I even understood what plant based was. He planted a seed that stuck with me and bought me back. That has been about 15 years ago.

He was such an incredible inspiration. For me, he was a source of hope to begin taking steps in another direction, understanding that I may not be liked for it, but to be ok with being bold and do it anyway. It's only because of you that I know Dr. McDougall well, because you'd invite him to your show; I still have him scheduled for first Mondays. The first time I met him was at Jeff and Sabrina's LA event 2003. On the panel, he became argumentative with T. Colin Campbell after the Cambell said he ate chicken once in awhile. From then on, I thought Dr M was scary....lol but I loved him and cherished seeing him; he felt like a friend. 😢 I was berft with heartache and tears after the announcement of his death that awful Monday. I believe John McDougall was destined to be great, and he embraced it, while never quite stopping to admire his own greatness, either. He was busy spreading the truth. He spread his message of a starch based way of eating with the passion of a firefighter running headlong into a burning building. For that, I will always be grateful.

Wonderful celebration! His ideas really make Vegan nutrition sustainable and enjoyable. I've learned so much from his many interesting lectures. Although I'm a Urologist, mostly Pediatric, I teach my patients and families low fat starch based nutrition.

Learning the Starch Solution science that Drm McDougall developed cured my issues. Dr. McDougall was a true HERO who cared so much about helping people he was willing to stand up to the Goliath conventional drug-based medical system.
Thank you for putting together this wonderful tribute. I knew he was an amazing man just from watching his interviews but it was really brought home hearing so many of his peers tell their experiences of how he mentored, encouraged and helped anyone who asked for his advice and assistance without wanting anything in return. A truly remarkable man who will be missed by so many people some of whom he helped without him even knowing, like myself.

Dr. McDougall has changed the world. He planted a seed who's rizomes have taken hold and are spreading throughout the world. He has unleashed a great truth and the world will be a better place for it. His deep anger unleashed his deep caring and love and we are all, now, the recipients of that. We are so lucky. I am so grateful. I love you John McDougall. What a guy!!! And, ps, he got more handsome as he aged, what a fox! I think I'll go drown my sorrows in a big bowl of mashed potatoes.
This was a great tribute to the great dr mcdougall. Thanks again for doing this for an amazing person and family. I was just disappointed at the guests that you had for him all because of one reason. They don’t promote the diet of which dr mcdougall has been doing for 50yrs. He promotes a STARCH based diet not a plant based one. This scares me because I 🎉believe this simple msg will be lost to history. No doctor promotes this at all. None of them. It’s sad. Dr rogers does. He understands this basic truth. This is no fault of yours chef aj as I know you definitely understand the starch msg but they don’t. My heart goes out to the family of dr mcdougall. I hope we see things in the future coming from them too.
He died exactly as he said long term whole foods plant exclusive low fat eaters die, peacefully in his sleep. Sometimes the body is just done and with him having had a severe stroke at 18 it's pretty much a miracle to even have lived active and sharp of mind and wits for another 59 years.

A truly remarkable man who will be missed by so many people some of whom he helped without him even knowing, like myself.

GOD BLESS Dr. McDougall! I learned a lot about the health benefits of a plant based diet! I'm glad I decided not to go to Medical school even though I had straight A's and was educated in Biochemistry. His Greatness is written in us! What a Blessing he was and is!
This just shows how the plant based doctors are the real deal - such kind and caring people - with Dr. McDougall having led the way. I particularly enjoyed Dr Klaper's eloquent tribute. Thank you.

Dr. McDougall has changed the world. He planted a seed who's rizomes have taken hold and are spreading throughout the world. He has unleashed a great truth and the world will be a better place for it. His deep anger unleashed his deep caring and love and we are all, now, the recipients of that. We are so lucky. I am so grateful.

I bought potatoes theses days. Just learned that they are so tasty and satisfy of stomach.
This was a great tribute to the great dr mcdougall. Thanks again for doing this for an amazing person and family. I was just disappointed at the guests that you had for him all because of one reason. They don’t promote the diet of which dr mcdougall has been doing for 50yrs. He promotes a STARCH based diet not a plant based one. This scares me because I 🎉believe this simple msg will be lost to history. No doctor promotes this at all. None of them. It’s sad. Dr rogers does. He understands this basic truth. This is no fault of yours chef aj as I know you definitely understand the starch msg but they don’t.
My heart goes out to the family of dr mcdougall. I hope we see things in the future coming from them too.

What did Dr McDougall die of? It feels as though they're trying to keep it a secret.
He died exactly as he said long term whole foods plant exclusive low fat eaters die, peacefully in his sleep. Sometimes the body is just done and with him having had a severe stroke at 18 it's pretty much a miracle to even have lived active and sharp of mind and wits for another 59 years.
So thankful for this ChefAJ, I wasn’t able to bring myself to watch this until today but now I’m glad did. How loved was he!? 🙏❤️👍🏼🌈
