💕🙏💕 I deeply appreciate you , Dr Lisle, and Chef AJ ! This talk is so helpful! I feel deeply enriched hearing Dr Lisle talk so honestly about everything…especially how he views the last 1/4 of his life. …I paused the video to write this because it somehow freed up some self judgments allowing me to value myself and my own unique life and opened up how I view the time I have left in this body right here and now. Sending you both so much love and gratitude for being the bright lights that you are💕🙏💕
I've been watching both of you for years and this was one of the BEST interviews 💕💕 Loved it so much, you're both wonderful and so entertaining. Thank you!!
Instagram getting more addictive, well chef AJ beat them to it with videos about Dr. Lisle. They're cocaine to me, can't stop listening to all his talks and might start playing basketball because of him, waiting for the secret shooting technique video to get a head start!
Wow. This is the best talk I’ve heard him do … at least, it is good for me.😉 In the last 25 years, I’ve become very restrictive in an effort to be “healthy” after listening to people like Dr. Doug Graham (went to Costa Rica with him), Dr. McDougall, and Dr. Peter Rogers and wound up alarmingly thin and sick (75 lbs. in the ER.🙀) So even though we may be in the minority, there are some of us who actually do need to “loosen the reins” as Dr. Lisle says and diversify a bit. I’m now at 93 lbs. and doing much better. I’ve learned to filter the strict advice from the plant docs. Still vegan.🌱 Thank you, Chef AJ and Dr. Lisle!!🙏🏻 Love you both!!💗
Very glad to hear you are doing better, what you went through sounds very unfortunate. I don't think anything McDougall (or Rogers) says would encourage that kind of thing happening, my guess is you'd gain a bit more weight even now actually following McDougall, so I'd be very interested to hear what led you to this. I would guess it was more/mainly encouraged by Graham's retreats and the crazy water fasting going on there, there are some horror stories on youtube of what people went through at these retreats. See my posts on on the plant based subreddit for more on McDougall.
@@bolbteppa Yes, you are mostly correct! I never did any water fasting, but I spent 16 years as a raw vegan (mostly fruitarian) following the ideals espoused by Doug Graham and John Rose. In the end I simply could not eat enough and lost too much weight. And for a while I didn’t even want to look at a banana. I became sick of all the sweet. Now I am much more balanced and eating a large variety of both fresh produce and cooked vegetables and starches, including beans and legumes. I also really enjoy eating seasonally, in tune with Nature. It took me quite a while to let go of the mental programming and the identity of being a fruitarian. Listening to Dr. Lisle’s lengthy talk on raw vs. cooked was very helpful, as was reading Richard Wrangham’s book Catching Fire. But surely you can see how many of the plant docs like Dr. Rogers and Dr. McDougall are speaking primarily to the group of folks who are overweight/obese with comorbid conditions. Ideas like the Spartan Vegan Diet and the Elimination Diet and hey, just eat a bowl of vegetables for breakfast feed into all the programming of restrictive eating. That’s what I meant by saying I now filter out all that language because I have to eat LOTS of healthy food all day long to be healthy and energetic!🙌🏼 Thanks for your interest, friend.💗
Suddenly this made me think of ancient Roman honey glazed medjool dates stuffed with ground nuts, honey, ground long pepper and seasalt, served at the Colosseum. 😊
Trauma memories are nature’s way of telling you don’t put yourself in that situation again. They are not some haunting ghost that’s come back to scare you and make you feel bad. You don’t put your hand on a hot stove more than once. Eating problems have more to do with the dopamine in the food than in the problems you had in your life. You still may have trauma problems, but that’s not the reason you can’t lose weight and keep it off.💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
If your friends are not willing to support you they are not true friends. So it is your choice to be their friend and visit them or just invite them to your home and be as flexible with your meals as you expect of them. Many people expect flexibility from others when they are just as inflexible. Food choices are your choice. Stop complaining and take responsibility for your decisions. You have the right to the life you want but you cannot expect to inflict your views on others.
For myself overeating was a factor in my trauma. I ate because I couldn’t express the abuse in my home to others or ask for help. I didn’t know how. Now I have difficulty with emotional eating still. I had spent all of last year doing sos free after watching countless hours of podcasts. My health was improving until I allowed myself to eat some foods that were triggers and this year I have no been as successful. So some of us do need to heal the emotional/psychological aspects of our trauma if it is food related.
Dr. Lisle check and see that you don’t have some sort of infection in your teeth. I had a tooth that would flare up and it caused postnasal drip which made me get a cough every other year or so for about six or seven weeks. I fixed the tooth and now I do not have, the postnasal drip, which caused the cough.
People are nice to you and smart enough to know what you want, many people aren’t as thoughtful and feel if someone is here they are here to eat what is here.
Start with cooked rice and cooked fruit (fruit and rice) after a week add in green and yellow cooked veg then gradually introduce other starches. Avoid beans and pulses and onions/leeks to start with. These can be introduced gradually later when your guts are more used to it
I did that basket ball shooting technique in Jr. High and high school but my eventually had a coach that got mad at me for doing it and I quit playing.
Great interview! It's baffling that Dr. Lisle's friends or family still eat an SOS filled diet. What's more baffling is that 250-pound overweight kid that won't take free sessions. With all he's done in his life, how much more convincing can Dr. Lisle be?
What about childhood trauma into adult? That continued complex trauma where children miss normal healthy bonding with their parents? That repetitive abuse is a bigger issue.
I have just lost all respect for his intellect after his trauma statements. I have c-ptsd and it’s ruined my life. I still have nightmares. If Im touched wrong I freak out. It doesnt just disappear after 5 yrs. I know this.
@@claudinestone6152 He has totally black and white thinking about it, is willfully ignorant of the research, and has no willingness to educate himself. It's sad to watch, because he really is clearly a very smart guy. But on this he is just out of his depth and he's too arrogant to realize it.
@@freewanderingstar yes he has obviously never experienced trauma himself. You just cannot unsee what has been seen, unhear what you have heard, unfeel pain, abuse, neglect and so on. If youve been neglected your whole life, it’s hard to learn this yourself. There are certain needs we have as a child for safety, nurturance and so forth that we need to get from others or it’s a lack later in life that we just cant give ourselves easily. But trust me what happens if it’s enough trauma, the fear never leaves. Especially with c-ptsd when it’s chronic. It doesnt happen just once.
He also drinks alcohol. That doesn’t make it right he’s modified his life to fit his lifestyle. You should never use these people as a role model. We all have to live our lives the way that makes us thrive not try to look for hacks in a Doctor Who maybe does something.💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

I want that book ❤ Dr.Lisle helps me so much. His personal sessions are incredible.
Another amazing episode!! Thank you❤❤❤
I learn so much from Dr. Doug Lisle. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much as always for interviewing Dr. Lisle every month!!!! ❤❤❤❤ Learn something every time
Absolutely fantastic talk on PTSD. I had my own theories about this, and to listen to that was amazing
So much excellent information, want to hear more from Dr Lisle! Time to pull out my old copy of The Pleasure Trap.

Can you please do a video about how to transition from a a keto diet? I’m having a very hard time with my gut! Thank you!

Spoken like a true non addict!
My daughter has a yeast infection and she has been vegan for 9 years and is eating high protein whole food plant based
So Shocked that Dr goldhamer of all people would eat beyond burger. Nice to hear he is far from perfect 😂

I can’t do it, either, to some I can, some I can’t
When someone calls you orthorexic, it just means you eat healthier than they do.
Write a book?😁
Yes, you are correct, none of the still living victims of the atomic bombs in Japan have trauma.
