I've always craved salt and eat it liberally. When I was a child I would salt ham, my mom was aghast, lol. My BP is normally low and my RHR is around 70. I used to have orthostatic hypotension when I was a young woman, and I ate more salt to try to combat it. I had surgery in June and my Na, K and Cl were normal. I'm almost 64. Thank you Dr. Berry and Dr. Dinicolantonio for good common sense research.

Well...even with COPD he outlived his two siblings who were the loudest critics of his salt consumption. One didn't make it to 60. The other didn't make it to 65. He made it to 87.

I took care of my mother for several years before she passed. She had type 2 diabetes and bad swelling in her feet and lower legs. Her doctors kept telling me to limit her salt because of the swelling. I literally took all salt out of her diet, per their advise, and all the while she was craving and begging me for salt. I talked to her kidney doctor, the last doctor she saw, about her cravings and he told me to not give into her because it would be harmful for her. Five days later my mother passed away. The kidney doctor called me two days after her death and said I needed to bring her in ASAP to have another blood test done because her sodium level was dangerously low and they needed to make sure this was true. I told him I couldn't do that, he said " you don't understand this could be life threatening", I told him I couldn't bring her in because she had passed away two days ago. There was a long pause before he spoke and told me he was sorry. This makes me so furious I can't even believe it. 😢

When I was in basic training in 1969, back when we put a man on the moon, we had at our doorway in our barracks a container of salt tablets to take when we went out for training outside. We usually took 3 to six tablets, if someone decided to not take them they usually passed out and needed a medic. We didn't have the ignorrant guideline's that we have today, oh ya, we're also trying to figure out how to put a man back on the moon also....

The maximum amount recommended by OMS for an adult is about a teaspoon or 5 grams. My recommendation to anybody is to do bloodwork and general analysis at least once a year. Your body will indicate if you need more or less salt. Some adults might need 8 grams a day, while others might do very well with 3.

I’ve been doing a low carb keto like diet for a while to help with my narcolepsy. Lately I was getting really lethargic, couldn’t sleep, had headaches and high blood pressure. I took magnesium and potassium supplements and I wouldn’t feel any better when at first they helped a lot. My head would get cloudy and I’d wake up feeling drunk, in a tunnel, and it was getting worse. I had started eating healthier for the last month and I was gaining weight and all of these symptoms started showing up. I wouldn’t drink water preferring tea and couldn’t seem to pin down what was going on. It was a salt deficiency, by eating healthy I had inadvertently cut out salt and was drinking tea over water because of the sodium found in it along with the sugar which was satiating the craving.
Two days ago I figured this all out and I feel 100x better, all my muscles are sore which I haven’t reasoned why yet but my mind is clear and my blood pressure is down.

Am 75 on keto lost 9 lbs but lately having severe leg cramps. Of course bought into a low salt diet years ago because of high blood pressure. I am trying to go off the medication, per suggestion of my doctor, but when I gradually use less, then my pressure goes up. I think it could have something to do with my body adjusting to Ketosis, instead of carbs or sucrose. Very new to Keto, about a month.
My Dad always enjoyed the use of salt. He said, salt was necessary for health, whenever anyone tried to give him grief. He passed from bladder cancer at 94. Your cramps and high blood pressure are because you’re not getting enough salt. I was the same as you (my b.p. Was over 200, lucky I didn’t stroke out). 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt daily cured me quickly. It’s real easy if you start your day by drinking a cup of miso, it’s delicious and one serving gives you almost 900 mg. of sodium. 1 1/2 teaspoons is almost 3500 mg., so I get the rest by filling my 16 ounce Mason jar with handle 3 times a day with filtered water and 1/4 tsp. Of Redmonds Real Salt. Then I salt my food to taste and I also drink a cup of water with 1/4 tsp. salt before bed. I’m now way more physically active, with more energy, no more muscle spasms, no more ice cold hands and feet. Mediterranean diet now. In my late 70s, just want to be healthy until I pass away in my sleep instead of having a debilitating stroke and lose what’s left of my mind.😅 Good health to you!

Americans take first place for most ischemic strokes. Too much processed oil in a bottle of any kind is too concentrated to eat. But ok to eat the olive, same w/fruit. Eat the the whole thing not the juice. The fiber slows the spike in glucose. The oil is in every product in the grocery store and everything in the restaurant. My sodium was normal, chloride was low and potassium was perfect. I couldn’t figure out why my BUN was high, but I’ve aways tried to keep my salt low and water high. I’ve had frequent heart palpitations for the last few years. Introducing a lot of Celtic sea salt into my diet has fixed all of my problems.

I cook a lot of lean steak for myself each night and use grass fed butter and Baja gold salt liberally. I’m quite fit right now and have perfect heart rate, blood pressure, blood work, etc. I’m a carpenter that works frequently in the sun, but I’ve still dropped by water intake down and started eating more fruit during the day to avoid draining my electrolytes.

I have used Redmond Real Salt (I'm from Utah!) for 25+ years totally against doctor's orders. I refused to quit because I knew it had lots of other minerals. I recently began dabbling with the keto diet at my son's urging. Gave up most carbs right off and lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks. I have since lost 30+ lbs and have gotten cholesterol and triglyceride levels into normal range after many years of struggling with it. My doctor about lost his mind wehe I told him what I've been doing and told me eating fat was no good for me as he praised my latest blood panel results!!

Salt added to food is corrosive to the blood vessels. Causes many hemorogic strokes each years. Asian get the most because they us so mich salt. It doesn't tske much to begin to coat the live but takes years, then it spills over to other organs then finally the belly as viseral fat. Good luck in your health journey

I'm on a very low carb diet and as you know carbs suck up three times their weight in water, so the moment you remove them from your diet you find yourself urinating much more and as was in my case accompanied but night cramps from hell. I have solved both problems with electrolyte powders and adding Himalayan pink salt to my water when training, table salt being less than useless after the minerals have been bleached out. Problem now is how long do I sustain this increases in salt consumption and although my blood pressure is amazing since giving up carbs, sugar and cutting back alcohol to one small glass of red wine and coffee to two cups per day, now my average reading is 117/73 down from 138/85. Im 66 and taking no medication at all and fitter then ever before. But well done on getting the information out there, great video, it seems more then coincidental that the recommended guild lines by the medical institutions are the exact opposite pathway to optimising health for so many issues, it makes you think how can those who write these guild lines be so unaware
