To answer your question I tend to put the white balance on daylight in bright sunlight conditions but for the overcast shots I just used the automatic white balance setting. Automatic white balance works perfectly well for most lighting conditions.I used the aperture priority setting mode..That gave me all the control I needed i in both sunlight and cloudy conditions. The shutter speed is automatically set in this mode and if you need to adjust the ISO you can but moistly that too can be set on automatic. To keep the animals in focus I mostly used the tracking focus mode. and in the static shots I used manual focus.
