definitely, the A5100 does better in lowlight, has better battery life, a significantly larger sensor (APS-C vs 1-inch), 148 more focus points, double the max shutter speed, and to top it all off, the a5100 is an interchangeable lens camera, so you can actually upgrade the glass later on, unlike the canon. It isn't much of a comparison really.

BOXINGUPDATEZ depends on your budget but I'm the same and choosing this a5100 over a GoPro hero 6 black, I would say get the a5100 due to the viewfinder flip screen, flip screens are much better for action and video recording, good camera overall and yes it does overheat after 30 minutes of straight recording but you can go back to filming immediately after turning it off for 30 seconds to 1 minute, great camera for an amazing price, has most the specs all these new cameras have but it has a flip screen which the new a6300 does not and although the a5100 does not have 4k recording which is somewhat disappointing but 1080p on it looks amazing and close enough to 4k that unless someone really inspects it than it'll look like 4k. Overall a5100 is better to me atleast

no you need a wide aperture lens, F1.8 or F1.4 for shallow depth

the LCD is pretty bright in day light, jason liner uses the the lcd in daylight, for photos it does not dim, you can how ever increase lcd brightness

These photographs were taken with a sony zoom lens 18-200mm and not the kit lens. the images were adjusted in post but you can't put in what isn't there in the first place. this camera has the same sensor as the nukon DSLR cameras and in my opinion it performs very well.

yes I agree but unfortunately the copywrite prevented me from doing it that way so this was the only way that it could be done.

Hello sorry I haven’t replied sooner! Firstly, yes you can focus manually using the ring on the lens. It only operates when you select manual focus from the main menu. The focus ring works electronically and is very responsive. You are able to use the Sony A5100 in any mode both automatic or full manual. You also have aperture Priority or shutter priority modes. All of these main functions are are accessed quickly and easily on the the back of the camera, with no need to go into the main menu. Choosing the ISO settings both Auto or Manual is also easily found on the back of the camera. This Camera is small so compared to the larger bodies it has limited space to have the dedicated buttons so it uses one main button and quick scroll function to find the setting. It also has an outer ring which gives you the quick access to the ISO, exposure compensation and multi shooting modes. Personally I nearly always leave the setting on Aperture Priority and I hardly ever have to change it except for fast moving objects where shutter priority is needed. And if doing night photos I will often fix the ISO to around 800 although the higher ISO settings are still very usable on this camera. Hope you find this information useful.

I'm glad you liked the Video. To answer your question I tend to put the white balance on daylight in bright sunlight conditions but for the overcast shots I just used the automatic white balance setting. Automatic white balance works perfectly well for most lighting conditions.I used the aperture priority setting mode..That gave me all the control I needed i in both sunlight and cloudy conditions. The shutter speed is automatically set in this mode and if you need to adjust the ISO you can but moistly that too can be set on automatic. To keep the animals in focus I mostly used the tracking focus mode. and in the static shots I used manual focus.

The battery does not last as long as others simply because the Camera is small and so is the battery Of course because the camera is small it is much easier to carry around which is good . When fully charged and If you go out and shoot lot's of pictures it will last about 1 day, or slightly more. For Videos it will only last for part of a day. The battery holds it's charge well when not in use. You can buy a spare battery but I have recently been using a small external battery that plugs into the camera and charges the camera battery up in between shots. This extends the usage greatly. It's called Aukey Power Bank. The capacity is 5000mAh I Hope this helps you.

Hello Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Yes the battery life of a single battery is limited. Depends what I am doing sometimes it only lasts one day. it is recommended to not let the battery fully discharge so I always top up after every use. the battery holds it's charge well. I recently started using a small portable external battery which allows me keep the camera battery topped up on location but only when the camera is not in use. even so, it does help to extend the use of the battery quite a bit.

To answer your question I will be posting some examples of night time photos very shortly. In my opinion the Sony a5100 performs well in low light. I have taken photos at ISO 2500 and the quality is still usable There are other cameras that do better but at this price level it does an excellent job.
