Just bought new lens on it too, for me it's the perfect pocketable camera with the meike 25mm f1.8, only thing i wish it had was a silent shutter for street photography
I have an A5100 as my permanent webcam for use with Microsoft Teams, Skype, etc. Have mine paired with a mains powered "dummy battery", Cam Link HDMI > USB dongle and a Viltrox 23mm f/1.4. It just works and provides far higher quality than any normal webcam. Reliable too - got it in 2019 and its been used for at least 4 hours per working day since then. Also useful as a backup camera for my A6700 if I'm photographing / videoing anything important.
@@ArronPrescott i believe you haven't heard of the sony imaging adge webcam software. it is a piece of software from sony with wich you can use your sony a5100 and newer as a webcam without the need of an capture card. just do with it what you want but i use it happily over an capturecard.
Just bought mine after watching this video! The structure in this video is so so good! Cut down compact to the most important information, yet not missing any and such a calm way of explaining the camera!
I bought one of these used last year for $320 CAD, and it came with a 16-50 mm lens. I added a cheap TTArtisan 40 mm lens and an AliExpress flash diffuser. All in, this is a capable, sub $500 CAD, macro photography set up. The lack of an EVF is no big deal for macro photography, and the built in flash works well with the cheap flash diffuser.
I just got one recently. I put the Brightinstar 35mm F0.95 on it and it is blast to shoot. Also got an M39 LTM adaptor to use a NIkkor 5cm (50mm) H-C F2. Super fun using a vintage lens with it. Its only a bit challenging shooting in the bright sun.
Holy crap!!! 😂I have my Sony a5100 just seated on my closet for about 4 years then when you mention about this video has being recorded with that camera I was on shock, it’s. A beautiful camera
I still use the a5100 for photography, the size is pocketable with a small lens (my favorite is the Sony 20mm f2.8) and i can always pop a bigger lense in the bag for more variety. For video, the ZV-E10 has taken its spot.
Funny this just got uploaded. I purchased my first "REAL" camera yesterday...a lightly used (sub 1000 clicks) A5100 off Ebay. I purchased it mainly for use on an upcoming trip to a national park, but it'll also double (hopefully) as an upgraded camera for my channel. we'll see...but I'll have to figure out the microphone issue for sure..that sounds horrible. but thanks as always for the review. sounds like I did ok for my first camera.
Still using mine. Have a body for each of my lenses. I have always recorded separate sound, so it works great for me. I will upgrade at some point, but it isn't a pressing issue -- I'm fine with mine. Cheers
i put a 200600 on my A5100 for comical effect. It just works, obviously, but it looks silly hah. I also still own my NEX 5n - and it still works! I've converted my NEX 5N to full-spectrum by removing the IRUV filter from the sensor.
I have both the a500 and 5100. I also have Canon DLSR gear. For the DLSRs, I have a Tamron 24-70 and 70-200mm f2.8. With the Sigma MC-11 converter, I can use those EOS lenses on the little a5000 & 5100. It actually works, however, forgive me if this offends anyone, but... When you mount the 70-200 to the camera (not the other way around, lol) it kind of looks a bit like a mouse having sex with an elephant. I sold my a6000s when I went DSLR but had to keep the little a5000 and added the a5100 later. They're just great little cameras.
been using this bad boy for a solid year. bought Sony FE 50mm 1.8 Lens last month. yep a fullframe lens and it turned out amazing. very sharp picture and wonderful color, but you have to use a gimbal for video, because theres no stabilizer in that lens. you dont really need a high end monstrosity camera, you just need a good lenses.

If only used for photography (for family vacation, instagram, pictures for memories), do you think the a5100 is great or should we take the a6100? Is the battery life of the 5100 also bad when mainly used for photos? We can‘t decide 🥲
I've had this camera for years with just the kit lens. I have been looking into the Canon R10 but this video is making me think I should just upgrade my lenses then eventually the camera body. I thought with the age of the camera it would be outdated lenses used.. Thanks Aaron
Yeah. It’s a great camera and very compact. But if the reason for buying this camera is compactness I don’t think those lenses that you mentioned in the video are the best options. They are still huge lens. There are better option such as 35 mm oss or 20mm pancake. I think if you are going for huge lens is better to go for A6000 instead.
Great little camera. I use both the kit lens but more often I use the rokinon 24mm f2.8 and mounted a Olympus viewfinder. It's my travel camera along with an RX100ii as backup.
As mentioned before, I don't like the camera overheating when recording a 20-25min video. I really miss the connector for the external microphone. Those are my only negatives. Otherwise, I mostly use it for YT vlogs :-)

I bought a used A5100 to explore the vast E-mount lens universe. I usually shoot MFT and was surprised on how small and light the A5100 is, especially compared to my flagship MFT cameras (Olympus OM-1 and Panasonic G9M2). Even with the small power-zoom kit lens I was getting such good results that I saved up to get an A6700. Nonetheless, when I want to use an E-mount lens and weight and size are major considerations (I often shoot street in NYC) I'll use the A5100 instead of the MFTs or the A6700. Aside from certain situations, mainly lower-light conditions where I wish the camera (and/or lens) had stabilization, it has rarely let me down.

Do you think the a5100 compares to the Cannon G7x mark II or Sony RX100 VII for photography or are those point and shoot cameras now superior to a5100?
Hi, I would like to put it next to my main camera and as a lens I would use a ttartisan 25mm f/2, I would need a very compact camera to carry around when I don't have space for but my main camera. Could that be a good idea or would it be better for me to look directly at a sony a6000?
Hi! I also use a sony a5100. This year I started making videos completely without quality. I've had the camera for quite a few years. I love it. Even I need to get a microphone. But I have a question. I make book videos that I read every month. The machine runs for a maximum of one hour. My question is, is there a setting after which the machine does not heat up after x amount of time. This is very confusing. Thank you.
I'm gonna visit Thailand soon and I have this camera as well as iPhone 13. So would it be worthy to take the camera along with me? (I'm travelling alone, that too first time so trying to reduce any hassle)
Hiya pal, a reply would be class... So I've got a 2000D (aka Rebel T7) and I'm quite young and unexperienced, but I do like taking photos, and I love collecting things, especially Cameras and the next Camera I'd get would be a similar stature of my 2000D (which apparently it is, if not a bit better) and I'd love my next camera to be a Sony one, so would you say go for it? I'd use it for taking photos, mainly to test out, because I've got tons of lens for my Canon one, and want to see which brand I prefer.
Anyone having issues being able turn off the flash in M, A or S shooting modes? I am stuck with a max shutter speed of 1/160 as the a5100 thinks it needs to be in flash sync mode.
