Nicely done, Mark -- thank you. I was so impressed with my first A6400 (purchased in 2020) that I bought a second one last summer. Originally, I only wanted it for the awesome video performance. I'm an SLT (Sony's version of DSLR) shooter for photography. I use the Sony A99-II. It's such an underated (and now discontinued) photography camera, but not so good at video. The A6400 gives a nice follow-me feature and pretty good facial rec as well, while shooting beautiful 4K video with no time limits. Now I find myself bringing one of the A6400s along to most shoots -- even when I'm not doing video. I've added a used 18-135 Sony zoom and man, it's amazing! I'd already added the Sigma 56 prime, which is basically like an 85mm on a full frame camera. One tip I'd recommend -- based on Nitpick #4 is to get a cage for your A6400. I have one on both of mine. Camera still stays small, and lightweight. The cage is built for this model and with it, you now have a place on the top of the cage - but not in the middle, to mount your external Mic. This way, if you want to flip your screen up, vlog-style, there's no obstruction because the mic is on the top-side of the camera. Last hack I use, is when I interview people using the A6400 and want better audio, I use a lav mic. Put the lav receiver in the mic slot of the cage and use the lav receiver's headphone jack for your return/monitor headphones and you'll be good to go. Again - thanks for doing this video. I never expected to make this small APS-C a part of my regular kit, but I'm getting a lot of mileage out of mine - so I'd agree with you, 100% that the A6400 is definitely worth it in 2024. Here's something I learned from your video --- I had no idea there was a pop-up flash 😀 Seriously, when I saw you do the flash I grabbed one of mine and saw the lightning bolt. In 4 years of using A6400s I didn't even know they existed. I have used regular Godox strobes and the associated trigger on my A6400s, but never -- NEVER knew there was that little pop-up flash. Cheers!
I've been debating on this but everything I'm seeing, including your video makes it sound like it's my next camera! I've been using a A5100 for the past 5ish years and ready to upgrade. Great video!
Do you know of a reliable place to get the international version of the silver camera that you have? Maybe even new in box? From what I understand, that was a special edition for Japan and while some are international and can be set to English menus, others are locked to Japanese.
I just bought the A6400 but I keep my faithfull A6000. I use both in the same shooting, one with a Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the other camera with the Sony 18-135mm. It save time and dust problems on the capter.
Hi, I am a beginer ( Used Nikon D3100 in the past) , now looking for a photo centric Camera, Can you suggest between Fuji Xt30 ii and Sony A6400. I Started my search and finalized Fuji XT30 ii , but looking at how the Fuji game is going around w.r.t Price fluctuations , Availability ...etc . Not sure if Its a right choice. Then started looking for other options and found Sony A6400 and So did your Video. You suggestion matters.
Hey there! I actually have an XT30 II right now, I borrowed it from my friend. I feel like the A6400 can easily outperform it but of course this is subjective. But for me, since I'm already used to the Sony ecosystem, I'm a bit biased haha. I tried using the XT30 II last night when I was out skateboarding with my friends, it's a very odd system to me. The only thing I like about it is the film simulation and the sound of the shutter. Also the body looks good, much better than the A6400 but in terms of raw horsepower and what it can do, I still prefer the A6400!
Thanks for your quick responce. How did you feel the advantage of having more dials on XT30 when compared to A6400. I mean for ease of control on the go, how did you feel the comparision is? Also how did you like the in hand feel while holding it for prolonged shooting or carrying. I guess the grip is entirely differnet on both. @@markfriday
Very torn between the a6400 and canon M50 for recording music covers for RUclips and TikTok as well as taking pictures, I have seen videos with both but it’s so hard for me to decide!!!
Hey, man! I would only get the ZV-E10 if my absolute main focus would be vlogging. But for a hybrid shooter like myself, I prefer having an electric viewfinder so I can better be immersed in the shot composion-wise and I can also have a better viewing angle when in harsh sunlight conditions.
Thank you so much just got this camera and I surfed the whole RUclips looking for someone with the latest review on this camera and all I could see was 2yrs ago review on the 6400. And now with the review of yours am good to go with my a6400
but when u also put the mic up there , how can u see yourself then while vlogging , cuz its right on the front , maybe u can see a little bit from the left and right side .. yk what I mean ?! 😭👍🏼
Hey, Lara Jolie! I totally understand your pain, haha. But one thing good that will come out of it is that you will be forced to look at the lens more and not on the screen. Just remember you're mainly going to use it for framing. But if you really want to see the screen fully, then you can buy the SmallRig coldshoe relocation mount, it will move the microphone to the right side of the body, on top of the dial. If I remember correctly, the model number of that cold shoe relocator is the Smallrig BUC2334. Let me know if you have any questions!
@@markfriday thank you so much for your video! Could you, please, share us the link of the Smallrig that you are talking about ? Moreover, I would like to know if the quality of built-in microphone is good for indoor recording ? Thank u 🖤
I brought the A6400 two years ago after having an A6000 for 6 years which meant of course i have a good range of lenses built up for all my needs. Both have travelled all over the world with me. the A6400 is a great camera and even more so as prices are dropping. My Nikon D7200 i never use now!
Hey, man! I would still choose the A6400! If I were to buy an aps-c RF mount, I would opt for an R7 but that's already on a whole new price point! So if you're on a budget, definitely go for the A6400!
i am on a budget and i want to be shoting videos like weeding, musoc video ,vloging, interviews e.tc can zve10 do this or i should just wait till i gather more money to by a6400... and please recomed a budget lense aswell for me
Hey there! The A6400 and the ZV-E10 are two cameras you can choose from that are almost on the same price point. Both are excellent hybrid cameras. The A6400 has an edge on the photography side mainly because of the inclusion of a viewfinder whereas the ZV-E10 does not have it. The advantage of the ZV-E10 is that it comes in a much smaller and lighter body plus it's geared towards videography, you can see the way they placed the built-in mic capsule on the top with an included wind muff for vlogging. Verdict here is that if you're a hybrid shooter, then go for the A6400 but if videos are your thing then zv-e10. As for lens choices, I definitely go for the Sigma 18-50 f2.8, Tamron 17-50 f2.8. for wide angle, you can go for the Sigma 10-18 f2.8. for portraits you can grab a Sony 50mm f1.8.
I never use high tech camera only using my phone, is it good enough to take pic just it is using it's kit lenses comparing to phone? I don't have photography skill just want to take great travel videos and family photo.
I would definitely go with a camera as even with the kit lens your photos will look so much better. Just think about how much bigger camera lenses are compared to your phones. The results will speak for themselves.
I have 15 pro max and I’ll say go for it !! But need to have a Good lens and not the camera. And if you buy Sony you could learn alot setting and have to learn and spent time it been 6months with the camera still I am learning everything everytime
@viebra You won't go wrong with either, but each has advantages over the other. It really depends on what you want in a camera. If you mainly shoot stills, shoot in JPEG and like the film simulation effects, get a Fuji. If you shoot video, shoot stills in RAW, and don't mind editing, get the Sony. I have the a6400 and I like it a lot. It's built well, the AF is fantastic, and the image quality easily matches or exceeds my old Nikon DSLR. The only downside to the Sony system is that the more affordable lenses are generally pretty poor, and decent ones are rather expensive. But Sony cameras do work well with lens adapters, so I've been using my Nikon lenses until I can afford the E mount options. If you don't mind focusing manually, this is a decent workaround.
Great content. Just at the time when i needed it. ❤ Edit : i wanted the silver colour and asked you about it but i found it so i removed the question. 😃
Hey, Mr. Anshu! Thanks for dropping a comment! I'm surprised you're digging the silver color, lol! I actually prefer the black version as it's more discreet, haha. But of course, it's all down to personal preference and at the end of the day, what matters most is what the camera can do!
Hey, man! As a hybrid shooter, I'd prefer the A6400 mainly because of the viewfinder plus older style shutter which gives that super satisfying shutter snap sound. I had the ZV-E10 before but sold it, loved it for vlogging and it's slightly lighter than the A6400 due to the lack of the viewfinder plus some other features like the built-in flash.
