Gen z here, love real country music, crazy how people looked happy back then, socializing and no technology, plus the music was real music unlike today's, musicians back then had talent, would've love to live in the 60s to 90s and experienced it, i guess i was not the fortunate ones
You know my Dad introduced me to this song. I thought it was cool. But now that I think about it he liked the old rockers , living his way, and listening to the tunes. I guess Buck was an old Hippie too and not a day since 2003 goes by I don’t miss him!
You know this song as an awesome song but I have to say I came here for redneck girl because he had the Kahuna's to say first comes love then comes marriage since I'm a Christian! thank you guys so much and everyone in the world have a great evening in Jesus name Amen! 🙏💖🎉 now ill go download the original version to my phone if I can find it lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think it was David who wrote Spiders and Snakes with Jim Stafford and Howard became his road manager. These men.became famous the old fashioned way They earned it. They'd shop at my dad's gun shop n Dade City when they were in town but they play like 200 nights a year. They're just awesome.imo An Old Hippie
This great song applies too all soldier's! Even the former South African Defense Force soldier's who fought in Angola relate. My Dad (RIP) loved this song. We soldier's all serve with Pride, Honour and Respect!! Salute and you don't know a true Brotherhood until you have served!
hello from Arizona, this song is my life in a gracious moment. It still brings tears to my eyes. GOD BLESS AMERICA! and WELCOME HOME to ALL my VIETNAM VETERANS.
In 2018, I am 66. This song applied to all of us vets. Makes me happy and real sad, where did the years go? At 45 rear ended by a school bus freeway speed herniating 10 discs. Diagnosed with MS 2011. Damn it was great to be young even being trained to be a killer in the Army. Travel in greens and get spit on and called baby killer. Now its changed and wearing my Vietnam hat people thank me for my service. Lost many friends on the wall! I cried like a baby looking at the wall! Not long left now.
You are soo right, there music accompanied my whole life (and I am from Europe) they are so good. We had peace, when I immigrated to the US in 1982 the World was so cool. Now, politics, politics, politics and to round it up a pandemic.
The line in the song...."this world may change around him but he just can't change no more " strikes such a strong chord with me. I'm only 45 yrs old and never knew the Vietnam Era. I feel like a hippie in today's world. The daily changes in political correctness, technology and everything else makes my head spin. It's exhausting to keep up. I'm tired of walking on egg shells in today's America. I've chosen to just be outdated, uncool and too simple. It's less stress in my life. Thank you guys for making music that hits home to millions of people just like myself!
I saw them in the early 80’s in a small bar when I was in my early 20’s. I’m going to see them in a few weeks at a very small venue. Will probably be surreal. I’ve always thought a lot about seeing them and my early love for country music.
Einsame Spitze. 😊 Ich liebe Country Musik. 😒Ich habe Angst vor dem Tag, an dem die ganzen tollen aber auch alten Stars nicht mehr sind. 😒Was oder Wer kommt nach??
This song came out in 1985 but it seems like it was just yesterday. So when he sang "He turned 35 last Sunday", it threw me for a loop. I had to do the math to make sure: (Born in 1950 to '85=35) Yea, 35 y.o. My gosh, people who were 35 when this came out are now 74, 75 y.o. I was 17 when this came out (but I've always identified more with 60s and 70s music), now I'm 56 and 35 is nowhere near old to me. Time sure does fly. Now I'M the "Old Hippie". Lol. But I'm a lot older than 35.
Dear Bellamy Brothers - I wanted to say thanks to a fantastic song! I remember you with your superior songs at the German Discos in the 1980´s, this was a great time, may God always bless you! Greetings out of Bavaria, Germany.
The Bellamy Brother’s - the BEST country band ever! I loved them when they first became famous in 1976 and I love them even more now. I have seen them in concert twice, but this live version of Old Hippie is the greatest I have ever heard! I love every song they sing!! Their voices are still fabulous! Hope I get to see them again.
I remember when this came out....the Bellamy Brothers got an underground drug reference on country radio...."Like the smoke from that torpedo, just up and fade away.."
When I was growing up in early 70’s I knew a lot of old hippies who came back from Vietnam some not so well and here we are almost 50 years later now I’m an old hippie✌🏽😮💨
I'm 78 and this song brings a tear. You youngsters have no idea what life was like in the 60s.
I do it was passed through my blood notes.
Not too far behind you. I just hit 70.
I'm glad I don't. Life is hard enough without the draft and with modern conveniences
I’m now 75 now and know what you’re saying!
Amen bro im 77 and this song, brings back memories
Arguably, the most underrated act in the history of Country Music.
Absolutely!

My old man did the same for me
You know this song as an awesome song but I have to say I came here for redneck girl because he had the Kahuna's to say first comes love then comes marriage since I'm a Christian! thank you guys so much and everyone in the world have a great evening in Jesus name Amen! 🙏💖🎉 now ill go download the original version to my phone if I can find it lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
There are a lot more of us "Old Hippies" still left then people realize. We are the children of the 50's.
This sums up how I feel in 2024. Old soul lost in this dismal world we now live in
For those who know, this tune brings a tear...
RIP to my lost friends who were lost in battle
Feel good music! New musicians, listen up. This is how it’s done.
One of the most underrated acts in the history of Country Music.
If only people will understand. 70 yrs i have NO regrets. What ever happen, I have lived.
That's all everybody can do is live does it matter how awesome you are or how boring your life is we all have an ending
Aymen. Brother

This great song applies too all soldier's! Even the former South African Defense Force soldier's who fought in Angola relate. My Dad (RIP) loved this song. We soldier's all serve with Pride, Honour and Respect!! Salute and you don't know a true Brotherhood until you have served!
Yup....from an old disabled Army vet.
Drug use aside probably the best band of all time! Don't think they sang a bad song!
Drugs ? Say it isn't so. I would be devastated with that knowledge. Please.
“They forced him to become a man while he was still a boy “
My gawd what a profound statement about war 😢😢

GREAT time, with its story! The harmonica player and the fellow in the blue shirt add to the rhythm and improve the show!
I remember when this came out....the Bellamy Brothers got an underground drug reference on country radio...."Like the smoke from that torpedo, just up and fade away.."
I always thought it was referring to the Gulf of Tonkin incident that started Vietnam..
Very good music, i love USA
"If you think real hard.....
maybe we can stop this rain". Lol
-from Woodstock
The weather announcement killed my high 🤣
The Old Hippie aka Ron Allison Dade City Florida
Also Doug Charbarneau
Lucky to see them in Lincoln NE when my husbands boss had the play at the company party! OPA!
I got to see them back in the 70’s at the Philadelphia Folk Festival when Bob Gibson played with them. Fantastic. RIP to Paula Ballan and to Bob.
How appropriate. Shades of Woodstock in the mud after that storm.
I stopped trying real hard to adjust!
