I miss these Stevie Richards "What Went Wrong/Right" videos. My knees and ankles hurt seeing that landing.
The worst was when Sid broke his leg in WCW.
Ass
So glad the What went wrong series is back. This is one of the few RUclips series out there in the wrestling community that wants to actually help their contemporaries and improve the safety of the workers.
Copeland's out here snapping his leg trying to get over. Meanwhile Christian is red hot with nothing more than a sleeveless turtleneck and a paternal mindset.
Who’s better now?
@@stephenmoore3035Even Edge acknowledged that Christian was the better of the 2, but Vince McMahon thought he looked creepy, so he never really pushed him.
@@ThePatrix1879 lol he does look kinda creepy
@ThePatrix1879 I was about to comment how insane do you have to be to look at Edge and Christian side by side and think Christian is the creepy lookin one, and then I was like "oh, right, Vince" 😂
AEW's only contribution to society is awakening the populace to the fact Christian was always the better of the two (only TNA been knew since the 2000s)
This is what i missed most of Stevies channel, showing what went wrong/right. It shows his wisdom and knowledge of the business from the inside, such a valuable perspective.
Randy Savage in WCW did a similar leap off the top of a steel cage and landed on his feet; he was supposed to land a double axehandle on Hulk Hogan , but the Hulkster pulled a "catching you off the top of the cage doesn't work for me, brother" and Savage's legs folded like a cheap lawn chair when he landed.
To this day, I still have no idea how Savage didn't break his legs or wreck both his knees on that leap.
yeah that was worse fall .he migt got some torn muscles . which heals reltively fast
There must've been something in those Slim Jims
It’s great to see Stevie Richards doing this kind of content. I’m glad he found a spot to get back in the wrestling bubble. He was underrated and deserved more. Always been a fan of Big Stevie Cool.
Adam Copeland said he signed to AEW to have fun. Here he is having fun. Wonder what he will do for fun next.
His wife
I am happy for you two starting this podcast. Stevie is a real one.
Watching live, I had no idea wtf Edge was trying to do. The next day, I had idea wtf Edge was trying to do. Now it's been over a month, and I STILL don't know wtf Edge was trying to do. At least the table broke!
The table seemed too close to splash him
I love these videos from Stevie. But to sum it up: "What went wrong?" Edge jumped off the top of a frikin' cage and landed on his feet, on a platform mainly supported by wood and metal.
About 30 years ago I stepped off a piece of industrial equipment and misjudged the distance to the ground. I ended up jamming my leg and my back. Watching this clip brought back the memory of that shooting pain up my spine as if it happened 30 seconds ago.
Edge had a perfect send-off in WWE. He's one of my favorites of all time but Edge in AEW is just kinda sad.
A lot of wrestlers do not know when to hang it up. The fact Edge would even go to AEW to become a midcard champion is just asinine. And he destroyed his leg over a midcard championship, in a midcard feud..........dude could have did all this while going to NXT and fighting against the younger guys.
Dude's crankin out content like its nothin gotta love it
Why is Stevie Richard’s not an agent somewhere? It’s criminal
What went wrong? Middle-aged man trying to re-live his glory days. How about at that age, have standard safe wrestling matches. He already proved himself.
There's a reason why WWE probably didn't let him do a spot like that in the cage match with Balor at Mania 39.... No need to be jumping off the top of cages at 50 years old with the list of injuries hes had over the years. Just go out there have the match use a few of the gimmicks and go home
Bro, Edge, bro got so much attention bro. This got views and likes bro.. car crash TV is the future bro - Russo probably
@@ren17x50IT'S EN-TER-TAIN-MENT!!!
"But it was the feud-ending match, after their epic rivalry of 20 minutes. It *needed* a moment like this!!"
I believe Russo did a video with Al Snow and if I'm correct, he said the opposite. Russo was not thrilled about this. @@ren17x50
WHAT WENT WRONG: EDGE THOUGHT THIS WAS 2002. Which in his entire career has neve done any spot like this off a cage.
I never saw much in Edge. Christian did nearly all the big bump when he teamed and Christian was the better wrestler imo. Started tuning out by the time he went solo and saw the begining to the R Rated Superstar gimick and that was about it.
All these old timers are going to AEW and damn near crippling themselves doing stuff that they shouldn't be doing. It's really like there's no quality control going on. Like, is there nobody who helps set the matches up that can say "Maybe you shouldn't do this?". The constant need for high spots just raises risk and brings down the quality of the product.
@@fingersTitan Edge was always a glorified midcarder to me (a midcard-level talent who consistently got main event-level pushes). When I heard about him retiring the first time, my kneejerk reaction was THANK GOD. Nothing against him personally, I just think he's a crashing bore and it's a shame that it took a horrible neck injury to stop him from being incessantly rammed down everyone's throat.
He wanted one more memorable moment other than the spear off the ladder
@@planetschlock He was a main eventer because there were no other stars left.
It's great to have this series back and having a two-person team talk about is a big improvement too.
Great job Stevie and James. I like the combo of you two
To me the issue was pretty obvious what went wrong: he didn't commit. He hesitated, landed on his feet, and hurt himself.
I'm glad these are back. Thank goodness. We'll done guys
In a way, Sting doing what he was doing in AEW in his early 60's really set the bar at an unrealistic level.Guys with as many miles as Adam and Sting have no business doing these stunts anymore.
I hope Tony gave him plenty of hugs
Probably gave him something else that rhymes with hugs.
@@STC987 zing!
@@STC987what? Bugs? Pugs? Let a naysayer know
I LOVE THESE. So cool seeing it on this channel too
Great to see James and Stevie collaborating.
Slapnut
This looked brutal!!!! I heal far slower at 44 than I did at 14, 24, and 34. He is 50!!!
Great collab guys
What went wrong is that it should have never happened.
Some many spots these days are so very risky but garner next to no reaction.
Ther are so many dives, high flying spots nowadays that they no longer feel special.
The Big E accident is a prime example where the spot was risky but hardly anybody would've noticed if not for the accident.
Back in the day I was awestruck with the dives and cool spots because they were special. Now I instead long for some old school ground based wrestling, rest holds and all. 😅
When I saw him setting up for the dive I said out loud, "Adam, you;re a 50 year old man. You should definitely not be doing this." And then he crashed and burned and then still FINISHED the match on one leg like a boss. What a pro. You could see how much Gangrel was supporting him as they went up the ramp afterwards. I didn't realize until Stevie said it that the dive spot was even dumber in light of the Gangrel surprise that was about to happen (and which I popped for so hard). When you're a major attraction and (ahem) no longer a young lion you have to plan your bumps more carefully and more strategically. Putting yourself on the shelf for goodness knows how long chasing a cheap pop just hurts everybody.
It is hard to compare jumping off a cage onto another person to just about anything else, but hesitation or pulling back can get you seriously hurt in a lot of sports. Happens all the time on the MTB trail - people panic brake at the base or lip of a jump and lose all their forward momentum, usually resulting in a long drop or a face first slam. I don't know if the spot was supposed to be an elbow or a splash, but fear definitely took over.
True. The most spectacular lucky athletes I know of have little to no fear nor regard for their body.
"What went wrong"
Dude pin dropped onto 50 yo legs.
His legs were trying to escape back up his own ass
20 year old legs would be destroyed after that. Edge is out of gis mind and not in a good way.
Due has made his money, he has won his championships and is getting paid even more money in AEW. The fact he even felt the need to do this shows the AEW culture is toxic to the point veterans feel they have to do this......which is why they needed CM Punk. CM Punk called out BS like this and was against this from the beginning.
This year I had a much smaller fall than this and landed straight on my right heel. Couldn't walk right for a month and 3 months later, my knee is still aching and I'm only 25, though granted I didn't break anything. Can't imagine someone double my age going through twice the fall I had, it's unthinkable the amount of pain he's in. He wanted a memorable moment and he ironically got it. Could be the last thing in his career and for what?
Matt Hardy 2005: KILL OR BE KILLED, ADAM!
Adam Copeland 2024: I'll give it a shot...
What went wrong is Edge decided to sign a contract with aew.
I could seriously listen to him when he does these videos... even getting my first foot in the wrestling business... I'll sit and take notes 😅
Expert here- I’m 6’4 and 2nd guessed a ladder…fell 15 ft and leg dropped a mini golf pirate. No injuries to me. The Pirate?🏴☠️💥
No one thought about the spot beforehand. Edge got up there and improvised.
Would be a decent heal move to climb to the top and then climb back down
It's what prime Edge would have done
I'm already seeing the logic behind this collaboration between Stevie and WSI. Would love to see fragile Tony and his referee/social media coordinator/cart horse copyright strike a channel belonging to someone who knows how to counterclaim bogus strikes.
I'm not just saying this cuz this is his channel or whatever I always thought Stevie was f****** underrated as f***I thought he was awesome as good as Shawn Michaels taller healthier-looking and could kick 🦵 just as good
Agree with stevie, the Gangrel appearance kind of made the dive redundant. Adam copeland also shouldn't need to do these spots at this point in his career. Especially after the neck injury forcing him to retire.
What you said
If the dive wasn't the finish of the match, regardless of Gangrel appearing or not, it was a useless spot.
Adam Copeland has lost his Edge.
When Edge first signed with WWE they were constantly comparing him to Sting online. I wouldn't be surprised if TK didn't suggest this spot. All he had to do was say "Sting did all kinds of crazy dives for us."
Sting is a bad example once saw him tarzan swing around a cage.
He did a half-Sid
But Adam Copeland has a full brain
@@adamirishconundrum851 Does he though?! He NEVER should have even tried to do this spot!
What went right?
What went wrong:
Edge didn’t retire after his Match with Sheamus in WWE and instead chose to slum it up in AEW.
Adam Copeland has been having great matches in AEW. Don't be a loser tribalistic moron.
Slum is still overselling it for that company.
15:36 Stevie makes a good point here, you’ve gotta protect people from themselves sometimes because otherwise they might end up biting off more than they can chew and do something needlessly dangerous
Il show you. You see!
What went wrong is he went up there to do that in the first place. Horrible idea.
He landed on Chris Nowinsky head with his butt doing a leg drop causing Nowinsky a concussion
More of this. Way more of this.
Over/under on the copyright strike? I have it at a week
I wanted to be in the buisness. Stevie once nicely as ever anyone said no in philly. Lol. Thank u stevie. Now i have a career i can retire from. Philly honest tough love love u!
Stevie prob dont remember but u my fav for being a philly guy. Helped someone that dont belong being saved from new jack. U the man stevie!
Dr. Stevie out here saving countless lives
What went wrong? He’s in his 50s and jumped off the top of a cage. Lesson over -thanks for watching!
I think Edge was at a point that he wanted to break his legs 🦵 to get paid time off.The guy is up there on age.
It was like he changed his mind the second he left the cage, and just kinda gave up in mid-air lol. I hope he recovers quickly and doesn't have any lasting complications...
he is 50, there is no quick recovery at that age
@@floggyWM1 Or not having lasting complications.
He didn't need to do this. I like Edge and still think he's got a little still left in the tank but yeah, horrible idea. Wish him the best.
I’m pretty sure he was trying an. Elbow drop not a regular splash
With barbed wire involved. It was a stupid spot that didn't need to be done, especially if it wasn't the finish.
He climbed to the top and when he jumped he said to himself "Oh dear!"
I think What's his name needed to move over and let Edge have a little more of that table to land on.
Adam seems a lovely man, would never want to see him injured. And Edge is of course in a class of his own. But frankly, the status he has confers the power to prioritise his own body & brand over his employer. He had the money, clout and respect not to have to do this, and by choosing his ego and doing it anyway, he inconvenienced his familly and set an awful example to his junior workers in the locker-room.
At 50 years old with a history of bad injurys there's just no need to go out there and do stuff like that. The match was a midcard title match against a midcard guy in a match that was already gimmicked up to the gills with a cage full of weapons and barbwire. It was a hat on a hat already so it was pointless doing that spot
Typical TK cocaine booking
James never noticed how yoked you were no diddy.
I saw Kevin Owens at msg on smackdown do the swanton from the top of the tunnel and I was thinking man I hope he didnt break anything. He's 40 years old, these guys think they're still in their 20s
Short synopsis:
“He left WWE for AEW”
This kind of makes me laugh considering I saw a Kayfabe Commentaries comment thread where someone called Stevie a "discount Edge."
I would think even taking a splash from that height would be dangerous. 200+ pound man coming down from 18 feet.
Also almost no bounce in the corner. The middle woulda gave at least some bounce
Wasn't there barbed wire involved in this spot too? I heard that he intentionally dropped like this because he didn't want to hurt himself by diving onto barbed wire from that height.
Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary spot for a wrestler of any age, let alone someone in their 50s. Shocking that Adam thought this was a good idea with all of his experience.
How long till this is taken down?
AEW! AEW! AEW!
They made sure to use fan cam footage so they shouldn't be able to take it down
At least we got to see it before it gets copyrighted
@@oakT800 gotcha
and Brisco did the same thing this weekend...but he got lucky.
Jay looking out for him
Your bones and muscles are two different things. I don't care how much TRT you are on, your bone density starts to decline as you approach 50.
Looks like he planned a splash but pivoted to an elbow drop at the very last minute
I don't think he was looking to do a splash, I think its an elbow drop (although maybe he changed it on the fly realising he wasn't going to be over Black enough to make a Splash work.)
To me, it looks like his going for an elbow drop, but is so worried about landing on his hip or back that he decides to go almost straight down and maybe roll through. But theres a person and a table preventing his momentum rolling forward at all, he lands entirely on his leg and his tibia just go "fuck this i'm out bye"
It’s scary to think what weight Adam was crashing down on his ankle at? 😣
Pressure from Mr. Nose candy khan.
That's what happened.
Place is a JOKE
“Unfortunately he went”
No shame in climbing down and attacking him. In hindsight they still could have broken the table
@@adamirishconundrum851 the slayer entrance was so sweet
Maven's channel brought me here
I think he wanted to get his hands down to brace himself on Black and the table when he hit (think of it like you are looking down giving a diamond cutter signal to your cat) - But once he jumped his hands involuntarily wanted to go up towards his face and neck - and he was unable to override that mentally so it was straight down to the mat.
3.3k views and not taken down yet.
Edge has a fused neck that prevented him from wrestling at all for years. How AEW greenlit this 50yo with a fused neck taking ANY bump off the top of the cage is inconscionable.
The idiot tried to jump off a cage...that's what went wrong. guy has 30 years or so in the business and he thinks he has to rely on backyard stunts to tell a story?
Excellent analysis!!! You know most men get smarter as they get older. That's why they call them "wise old men". This does not seem to be the case with some professional wrestlers like Edge. Time to hang up the boots and retire Edge. Your ego is not your amigo.
Ego+conditioning to a reckless culture+fear of mortality+cumulative head trauma
What about shortening the hight of the cage ?
WWE cages usually have a platform in the corners for the wrestlers to jump off of. Didn't seem like that AEW cage have much for him to stand on up there to get footing to get a jump off 😢
That was a bad jump off the cage, he should have done a splash and Black was even looking up and moving his arms before the spot.
What happened was a wrestler started to second guess what he was going to do and should NOT have done it, as I believe was said in the video, especially after starting to have seconds thoughts.
Every time ive come down like that, one of my knees has clocked me in the jaw. I hate that.
50 and leaps off cage are not really optimal u hope edge has a grasp for the obvious. But then he created the Sumerslsmfeud with V1, also Edge always jumped off things like that just like when he leapeed off the ladder to ric flair but it was not as high in 2006
Oh! So THIS is why the TNT title was vacant at Forbidden Door?! He was the champ right? I haven't watched a lot of AEW lately because WWE has been so much better than it has been for quite some time.
what went wrong is edge's intelligence left the building that night
Thought he wasn't doing this anymore. Hope Edge is ok, he's just following his passion at first I was critical but if it's what he wants to do then whatever
Can't believe Horseface hasn't tried to copyright strike this video yet.
Neigh!
This is the 1st time I've seen this clip & let me say LMAO!!!!!! I mean, I'm glad Edge is ok, but LMMFAO!!!!!!!!
Wtf was Edge thinking?! He's lucky he didn't kill himself!
What went wrong was that Adam Copeland climbed up there to begin with. It was all downhill from there.
What went wrong? It’s AEW, nuff said.
Wtf was the old man thinking
Why did they go after Stevie's old channel so hard with the copyright claims but not this channel or someone like Mavens channel? It seems like they were singling him out
Probably because a lot of channels can be dismissed as opinion but Stevie was basically scientifically analysing wrestlers to the point of dangerous ideas being indefensible.
Not sure if using crowd footage covers them.. I'd guess not entirely but I've seen James do this with Dutch aswell
