Small mistake at 2:04 : the automatic is actually a 8-speed ZF Torque Converter, as BMW uses in basically every car apart from the 1 series and its brothers

3:15 Do these manufacturers even care that we long for physical buttons? I'm surprised these cars are not steered through an app hidden in the touchscreen menu & accelerator + brake pedals are also not buried in the touchscreen. Loving your reviews, Alex.
Volkswagen is going back to more physical buttons soon. Happy to see that. Everything on a touchscreen is one of the worst things to happen to cars in recent years. The same goes for fake exhausts.
@@vincenzosgarage Worst inventions ever. Hoping other manufacturers will follow suit. Glad the Asian manufacturers still have a reasonable number of physical buttons. I also hate the replacement of a gear-knob/stick to a selector in a form of a tiny button
Two decades ago, the press was unhappy about all the buttons and yet praising cars that have more features (features need controls), I'm glad there's now more awakening to the fact that we needed those buttons. I remember the Panamera and Cayenne had a lot of buttons laid out on the centre channel and there was always a negative comments in the press about that.
@@taidee this, I remember very well. And I'd always ask myself where is the problem whenever a car journo would question why a car had lots of buttons. I remember even when the current gen Vantage came out they said it had "many buttons"
@@vincenzosgarageVW is only going back to physical buttons for the steering wheel (which they had in the Polo anyway). The heated seats traction control and the like are staying in the screen and the HVAC is staying as a slider but it will be backlit

"Looks are subjective, so what does that matter ?" True. And yet hosts spend a good 30s talking about looks and highlighting best angles and nice details in every video (so a good 5% of the total video) except this one where we just gloss over it. That's evidence right there 🤣
People only pull out "looks are subjective" to cope when something gets rightfully called ugly

Even though its heavy but BMW cleverly designed the suspensions n the power delivery to disguised the actual weight..... like all bmw before, it takes time for people to grow into its looks.... imo its nice
Exactly I think it looks aggressive and nice now that the looks have grown on me the, imo back in the day I even considered the e60 ugly at first

It's no suprise, we know modern BMW drivetrains are great, it would just be nice if the exterior wasn't awkward - this M2 is very colour dependent imo, in some colours it looks much better like black because soo much of the awkward lines are harder to spot.

The M2 peaked at the OG F87 with the N55 engine - best sounding 6 cylinder I’ve heard!

I've always loved physical buttons, I remember way back when the press was complaining about all the buttons, and now everyone wants buttons. So I guess it goes to be careful what you wish for. It's kind of like the ever rising power that almost no one needs. Cars like this with lesser power are more drivable and still more fun that the scary monsters with power so high you have to practice caution all the time you're driving them.
M240 xdrive is a better all round car and £15k cheaper. Tbh it looks better too and is faster than the M2 in the UK most of the year.
I literally love this car in term of look and presence!
The only thing I really can't understand is the weight!
And even if I had the intention of buying I don't know if that 1700 kg is a number I'm willing to forgive!

@@markgt894 Test drove one yesterday,the car looks great in the flesh especially in red or black. Not particularly a BMW fan either but i would consider buying it.

Weight would make the car extra traction especially it doesn't have outrageous down force elements n figures

I like the looks, although I wouldn't buy one as I don't buy new cars unless they are GT3s and Porsche won't let me have one...
But what shocked me is that you said that the Alpine is a competitor, it really isn't, not even remotely. Oh and i adore the Alpine.
Oh and weight is psychological 😮, except you feel it at the petrol station, when you have to replace the tyres and the brakes.

Funny it was slated by everyone when it came out, then Chris Harris drove one and said it’s fantastic, now they all say it’s fantastic. There’s nothing out there that looks anything like it. Great value as well.
I've always liked it from day one and that's just from what I saw of it online. A recent visit to the dealers and seeing one in the flesh confirmed what I thought, it's a fantastic looking machine very different to anything else on the road.

Im confused. The bmw owners wanted bmws to maintain boxy and aggressive proportions. When they get that… they dont want it? Maybe the bumper grills look a little off but this is definitely a bmw

1.75 tons is not understandable even for a touring 3 series
How can a 2 series weigh that much? How did such a small nimble BM become such a porker? 1450kg should be the most.
Weight is irrelevant if you can't feel it. It's a number on a piece of paper. When will people get it through their thick skulls...
@@MuppetsSh0w fuel, tyres, wasted acceleration potential, just to name a few issues with an unnecessarily heavy car. "but wait it's a sports car fuel and tyres are getting trashed regardless" yes but we live in the UK and most M buyers cruise down motorways and city roads we care about these things if we use it for more than 2 days a week.
I'm sure it's very well hidden, but going downhill on a mountain road and heavily breaking before a corner will make you feel every kg of it! You can't deny physics!
I'm sure it's a brilliant daily though and in fact I'd love to have one!
But I don't see it as a sport car for the weekend! It just isn't that anymore
@@MuppetsSh0wyou can’t fool physics no matter what. Weight will always affect performance, being overweight is counterproductive for a sports car. When will people get that through their thick skulls?

Good thing there's a thing called "aftermarket parts" that can easily solve that problem for less then 300$ lmao. That's what I don't get about people. Same thing about the m3 and m4 grille. Theres like 4 different ones u can buy and they look amazing

I love what bmw did with the m2. I use to always hate the m2 becuase it looked like the little less powerful m3 but now it is its own car. Very good move from bmw.

forget power. you can buy a chip tune that adds over 80 hp extra to this engine with 0 supporting mods, immediately makes it more powerful than a base M3 or M4.

The M2 looks OK to me, but I don't like the putty-grey colour. It would look better in loud purple or something.
The colour options are unfortunately very limited when they have an awesome purple for the 240i. I'm sure more will be released in future models.
I’m surprised that reviewers don’t mention that there is substantially less rear seat headroom compared to the previous generation. I’m 5 ft 11 and I can’t sit in the back
The target demographic for a 2-series coupe buyer is a single male with no kids. Or a second car where there's a more practical daily driver. In a pinch, people fit in the back (maybe very cramped). If you see yourself carrying people, a 340i is more practical for the same money.
The M2 Competition drives like a go-kart. Not a daily car, especially after a long day heading home on B roads. Wonder if this new M2 has a more reasonably easy suspension.

It launched in that baby blue colour (hideous). Now the grille is such a relief after the M4's cod-like appearance.

These iPad style infotainment system is getting somehow out of control. Like the Porsche taycan, I remember that I have to go to three user interfaces to adjust the air vent direction. I think it will be dangerous to do so if I am on a highway.
What makes it tick?well 70 odd thousand but that should make anything tick quiet frankly!
High performance cars are waste of money on public roads.. especially in Australia can only be pushed on a race track

Usually people would buy this type of car because they want something a bit special and still be able to have the family join them and get shopping in the boot. Usually really enjoy the reviews here but this was a bit of a read of the spec sheet, and oh it’s fast, heavy, not great looking…
There's not much space in the back for a family. The M3 is better for that.
Have a 21 M2C and drove the new one kept the old one.

Don’t have to go on a mission for heated seats. Climate controls are always in a dedicated section at the bottom of the touch screen. No menu needed.
Ok that doesn’t sound too bad. Still not as easy to press the right spot on the screen without taking your eyes off the road. Buttons you can use from feel.
first thing you notice....dead steering.....after 6 months of ownership....it is the most disappointing part of the drive.
It costs a heck of a lot better drive well

I’m sorry, but if you road test a sports car in them boots you haven’t got a clue. Didn’t get past 35 seconds.
Its not as good looking as the old one but I dont think it looks bad. The whole package is still very convincing.
The car is great to drive, but it's ugly AF and so is the M240 though the older models are easier on the eyes.
