    Seeing the finish on this bowl made my little effort well worth it. I am so pleased you are enjoying the Ack's. It certainly put a nice finish on that pretty little bowl. And as you said, when Gayle likes something it has to be good. I am also glad to hear you continue to be on the mend. Take care and have a great day my friend.🙂🙂

    So good to see you back at the lathe, Gord! I go through withdrawals if I don't hear your theme music now and then! It always reminds me, I'm in for a well produced and interesting video. This one is no exception! Though a simple design, just watching your tool produce tiny and continuous ribbons and chips, with your excellent camera work, gives me joy. That is a really cool recess/tenon marker you designed! I really need to find the time to learn the various softwares so I can design my own things, too. Thank you for the kind words, Phil. Someday, with a little practice, I hope to live up to them. Unfortunately, this stupid little bowl took me almost 2 weeks to do. There were days where I could turn for nearly an hour or do other things if not turning and some days I was good for 15 minutes before I had to go lay down. I’m getting really tired of this back of mine but apparently they’re not doing transplants of those just yet. Maybe in 100 years they will be able to. I guess I will just have to wait. 😂😂😂 In the meantime, I will just have to keep doing what I’m doing! At least I have a lot of other things I can be doing in my shop that don’t require me standing in one position for too long. Too bad most of those things won’t find a place on my RUclips channel. Oh well, we do what we can do. Thanks for watching, buddy!

      In January 2000 I had surgery for a ruptured disc. The surgery didn’t go well. It left me with two damaged nerves on the right side. This has left me with constant tingling and pain in my right foot. Some days are better than others. On the bad days, I need to spend more time sitting or laying down than standing. On the good days I get to spend more time standing, but it is not pleasant doing so. I don’t mean to whine as I was told before the surgery that I might not walk again. So, I guess I should just stop that whining. 😂🤣😂🤣

      Well, I WAS feeling better, Tom. Then I had to have an appendectomy! I know that I take a lot longer to heal now that I’m in my extremely late twenties but this is ridiculous. I recovered from back surgery a lot faster. The report I received said that there is indication of malignancy and I can’t see the surgeon until June 15. My family doctor said that he can’t give me any information; has to be the surgeon! A great way to help me relax. Meanwhile I’m trying to putter around in my shop just to keep my mind off of things but it’s not working very well. I didn’t realize how painful this healing process can be! I certainly can’t stand at the lathe! I have been asked to review a couple of things so I am trying to do that very slowly. I think it’s been about 5 weeks since I released my last video and it will probably be another week at this rate! Oh well, it is what it is! Sorry for the whining!

Sounds like you are in a territorial dispute between your doctors--never a good thing! I guess that since the surgeon is willing to put off any visit until mid-June that he/she doesn't consider your situation grave. Like you, I am celebrating multiple anniversaries (in decades!) of my twenties. Being in my mid 70's I know how slowly recuperation can be. I hope rest and some sort of relaxation will help you get through this. Don't worry about whining. Sometimes talking about things can help. I'm here for you if you want to chat, email or text. I have used various sanding paste and polishing paste on several projects. They look wonderful but over time they seem to loose their luster. I don't think it is a brand issue I think it is just a property of the wax. Have you experienced this issue? Love your channel.

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  Год назад

      I have noticed that in the past, Rick. I think it probably is a property of wax in general. It seems that quite often waxed pieces need to be buffed which usually brings back their luster. I must admit I haven’t done it very often, though. Once I turn some thing, I am guilty of rarely looking at it again. Just too many things to look at, and so little time to do it. Why didn't you use a pencil and ditch the dangerous dividers to mark the mortise?

    • @GordonRock1
      @GordonRock1  Год назад +2

      Dangerous? I’m afraid we will have to agree to disagree on that. I don’t think of them as dangerous, at all. After all, you can always punch somebody in the eye with a pencil, and then they are dangerous, too. All comes down to how you use them. It’s not my intention to tell someone to use the tools I use. That decision has to be left to each individual. If you consider them dangerous, don’t use them.

    • @normanlanford5100
      @normanlanford5100 Год назад +1

      Gord, I have been a subscriber of yours for six or seven years and have always enjoyed your videos. My last comment, which was my first, was too brief and far too ineloquent. It was a delight to see the 3D printed jig for making tenons and mortises. Nick Agar uses as similar device. Since I often deal with new turners, I thought the device would be a great way to introduce new turners to a safer and equally effective way of marking the tenons and mortises. I have no issue with using dividers, but have seen hundreds of videos that warn the user not to touch the far leg as it could cause the device to fly off dangerously. Of course putting it in the center hole is a great deal safer, but suggesting to new turners that a pencil would do the job equally as well, might just prevent something that might adversely affect their turning enjoyment. Please keep up the good work, I always look forward to your new postings. @@GordonRock1

      Norman, I apologize for my impatient answer. My only excuse, and it’s only an excuse, is that as a chronic insomniac I have had a real bad week, and my fatigue has made me less than patient. I didn’t realize that I had forgot to mention the danger of touching the legs of the dividers incorrectly. I usually try to do that. Again, I apologize for my impatience. Thank you for your kind reply.
