    Well I pulled the trigger and ordered a Quick Performance 9" with Truetrac posi, 31 spline and 3.70 gears ! Its made to swap, into my 70 Nova. 11" drum brakes and lines and e-brake also.

    . Never saw coils like that either. head scratch.. Im doing same thing to my recently aquiured 1970 Nova. Gonna rebuild the 12 bolt though. New posi w/3.42 gears.

      Nothing wrong with a 12 bolt! If I had one I probably would have done the same thing as you. However this car only had a little 8.2 10 bolt (not worth rebuilding). So since I had to buy a rear I decided to go straight for 9” just cuz how easy it is to swap gear ratios later on. Those 3.42’s are gonna be perfect for a fun quick street car!

      @@hatchsrecreationalengineer1997 Glad to hear back from you.. Im feeling a bit impetuous, so Ive been speaking with Strange manufacturing. Thinking about grabbing a, all new Dana from them. Its posi with 3:73 gears and drum brakes. 35 spline axels and leafspring mounts in stock 1970 Nova location. Only need will be, brake lines adapted and u-joint, as they have the 1350 pinion yoke instead of 1310. Im watching this install again.

    Coil springs: they are aftermarket coil springs for extra load. Somebody either towed with that old nova or carried a lot of weight in the trunk. Extra capacity.

      I can’t imagine they were towing anything since there’s no hitch or evidence of ever having one. I think the were added to compensate for the spent monoleafs because those coil springs are on the frame rails 24/7 load or no load

    Hey I just Subscribed! I have a 70 Nova and been driving it for 30 years and have seen hundreds of Novas over the years and I have never seen coil springs in the rear of a Nova like that. Your doing a great job and I love the Nova! 👍

    Those springs are aftermarket helper springs. Used them many times on Ranger pickups and Explorers

    On the bright side, it’s good to know the undercoating is tough! 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997
      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  2 года назад +1

      That’s one way to look at it! That undercoating is super tough and durable. After scratching brake lines and everything else against it for a week it didn’t scratch,chip,or get damaged at all. Highly recommend that stuff!

    Also used them on a 1974 Got until I got the rear leaf springs updated

    It might be a little easier now for you to do the exhaust while you got the rear down. Just an idea. Great video I'm keeping an eye on them. Ps.. I know your dad and your grandfather 🤣

    Overload/helper springs.the old mono leafs are probably shot and the rear end sagged.I’d put new leaf springs in with that rear your putting in.Should have opted for multileaf brackets on rearend. Gonna be a cool nova though!

      @hatchsrecreationalengineer1997  2 года назад +2

      I installed the new rear with some cal trac split mono leafs. I plan to do some drag racing with the car so I set the rear up to stick with the mono leaf style suspension.

    That's going to be a nice swap, and no I have never seen a coil spring helper kit for a Nova!!! Mine does not have one...LOL

      General consensus so far is that no one has ever seen anything like them. They are pretty wild and the have a pretty legit and solid mount for them on the axle tubes.

    Dude why wouldn't you go with disc brakes? Multiple cylinders in the calipers? Why would you spend that kind of money and not to with top brakes and a short gear set? How many spline axles? Your nova looks rough underneath. Decrease and paint, dust proof everything at least before you swap diffs. I don't get it?
