The Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker - Alternative instructions

  • The included instructions have a fatal flaw. Eggs run out if the center plate before they cook, even with the appliance fully preheated.
    So I cook the egg on the bottom, where the lower grill plate instantly hardens the egg white to seal against leakage.
    But you must be careful and gentle because the center hardware is not securely attached and this could lead to a raw egg landing on your countertop.
    I've prepared a video showing how I make the classic McMuffin sandwich.

    I put the bread in the lower level, then the cheese, meat, lower the first ring/plate. Then crack the egg, break the yellow, add the top piece of bread lower the lid and time it for 4 minutes. Never had ANY leaking! It has to be fully preheated!
    This procedure has to be done without delay or interruption or the center plate will be too cool to contain the egg properly and you will have leaks. Mine has a timer.

    • @poehlerj
      @poehlerj Год назад +2

      Exactly as stated on instructions. I have used this machine for several years and never had an egg leakage problem. The first thing I learned is that if making a sausage variety is to use the precooked patty and pre warm it in the microwave for about a minute while the unit is pre heating. Otherwise if you use a frozen patty the center disc will definitely cool down too much and the egg will not set quickly enough. The method posted here seems to be much of a waste of time and too many steps since if done correctly this unit works great as it should.

    I got mine for free because somebody threw it away, probably because they followed the chingrish instructions to the letter, and it didn't perform well.
    A decent product can be crippled and disowned by consumers because of crappy instructions written by some Chinese goof who either never saw the device and/or didn't understand how it worked.

The same goes for my George Foreman Grill. It just seems so hazardous to unplug the cord out of the socket while the appliances are still on!

    I use croissants and get them from Winco, and use a 5-inch cookie cutter to shape the croissants, spray the egg sandwich maker with canola oil, on the bottom put the bottom croissant piece with bacon and American cheese, then beat a medium to large egg with salt and pepper and let that cook for 4 to 5 minutes, and than take out the egg divider and put the top croissant on and one minute longer and its done 😊
    You could probably even use pancakes to make a McGriddle. you just have to use a cutter for that also and pre cook the pancakes

    I've never had a problem with the egg running through the slider level. I have my own alternative method. I use American cheese and it can't cook the whole 5 minutes, in fact it doesn't need to go in at all. I preheat the device, make sure slider is fully engaged. Then I'm starting my English muffin in a pan with butter (I prefer Bays) in the same pan I'll fry the ham. So egg is done, I'll put cheese and ham on bottom, open it up and stick it in, put top on top of cooked egg. Open up and it is done. Yes it does require a separate pan and operation, but I figure it is worth it. I still like the device for making the egg, because I'd have to use a second pan to cook the egg anyway.

    To me your hack of the egg is ridiculous, I've never had my egg leak out of it's ring. If you put it in slowly like you do the bottom ring, where the egg ring is, it serves the same purpose, don't you think? And my muffins are always crisp. I cook mine 4.5 minutes tops.
    But I'm going to try it your way, I do like my egg on top of the muffin with the meat and cheese on top of the egg. I wasn't/I'm not trying to be a Karen.

      Watch the video more closely before commenting. The meat and cheese are cooked separately, on the middle section. The eggs will cook too slowly on the middle shelf, and run out the gaps. It was one of the first issues I addressed. I'm sure you're smarter than it appears in your comment.
      Yes, it is a flaw in the design of the unit, but that's on the manufacturer. I received this as a gift from a family member, and I did my best to innovate the process. I would not have made the video if I didn't come up with a solution.

  • @Raynestorm1968
    @Raynestorm1968 8 месяцев назад

    Sorry to all who found this video helpful......but this is a ridiculous and more steps than necessary method, you may as well just make your sandwich in the old fashioned frying pan and forget about the machine all together.
    Allowing the machine to fully pre heat and not using ice cold ingredients seems to stop the egg running problem. Make sure your machine is fully pre heated, and make sure your egg, meat, cheese and bread of choice is all room temperature and you should not have problems with egg running out.
