  • Does the Behringer GDI21 do serious gain tones well? Today we look at the Cali and the Brit modes on the GDI21 by Behringer used direct in to see if it really can do a useable direct tone. This is heavily inspired by Tech 21 Sans Amp GT2 and, quite cheekily, has some of the same setting names. Could this thing go in your gig bag and step up to the plate if your rig went down however? We run through the gain settings in today's video, if you are interested in how the tweed amp stacks up and some more depth on the tone controls, watch the previous video here:

    The demo gear in this video is all run through Practical Patch cables, including instrument cables and patch cables. These are using some top-quality components, including Neutrik jacks and Van Damme cable and are hand-assembled and tested in the UK. After having off-the-shelf cables for years and suffering failures again and again, I bought some Practical Patch cables and have been happier than ever with them. They also don’t cost you the Earth, which some other hand made cable companies seem to do. If you want to find out more, head over to www.practicalpatch.co.uk to see what they have to offer.

    Nice pair of videos - for distorted tones prefer the Brit to the Cali, and Tweed for cleans and crunch.

      There are some really usable tones in there. I've yet to try the tweed with pedals into it yet, but I imagine that's where you'll get the most versatile rig out of it

      @@BudgetPedalChap I just tried with some crunchy overdrive into clean tweed, and really liked it.

    When I use this thing, I pretty much always have the switches all on tope. It's a great pedal for what it is, but when you crank the settings, turns into dreadfully raspy and shattered clipping and tones.
    On a tube amp though, the tubes natural characteristics clean these things up so they do great.

      Yeah it definitely is better when you aren't pushing it to the max, it can give some very authentic tones when dialed in just right 👍

    would love to hear the brit with a kokko overdrive in front of it. :D

      I've not got a Koko overdrive, what's it like? I have various tube screamers, blues drivers and such I could try

      @@BudgetPedalChap i think it's the current cheapest clone of a tube screamer... although any tube screamer type pedal you own would be interesting.

      @@BudgetPedalChap It's a rebranded Nux pedal. Actually, it's the same as the Amazon Basics Overdrive. I got one and it sounds great. In fact, I use both the Kokko Overdrive (TS clone) and Supadrive (MS Bluesbraker Clone) on my board. And they beat more expensive overdrives.

    What is ground lift for on/off ? Pls

    • @BudgetPedalChap
      @BudgetPedalChap  2 года назад +1

      If you have ground loops in your circuit it can cause buzzing. This can help that. Usually if you are using this direct in would be the use for that 👍

      @@BudgetPedalChap i think ola englund wants too much gain but loses dynamics... which is the reason why the clean + brit setting surprised him.
