  • The Behringer GDI-21 has been given some pretty fantastic reviews by some pretty big names in the guitar world, but is it really any good? We are looking at the tweed section of the Behringer V-Tone GDI 21 and taking it through all of the tones it can give.

The demo gear in this video is all run through Practical Patch cables, including instrument cables and patch cables. These are using some top-quality components, including Neutrik jacks and Van Damme cable and are hand-assembled and tested in the UK. After having off-the-shelf cables for years and suffering failures again and again, I bought some Practical Patch cables and have been happier than ever with them. They also don’t cost you the Earth, which some other hand made cable companies seem to do. If you want to find out more, head over to www.practicalpatch.co.uk to see what they have to offer.

I can't wait to see the Brit vs Cali vid, it seems like a decent but of kit for how little it costs 👍

I did a fairly crappy "does it clean up" video some time ago with this pedal in the Brit and Calif modes. The one big complaint that everyone has with this pedal is that the clean tones aren't really clean in those two modes - only the Tweed mode. Other than that, an absolutely PHENOMENAL analog amp sim that I would happily record with any day.

Oh yes absolutely, there are no clean tones to be had on the other modes. I might just well be using this for a bigger vid coming up on pbod. I might have to give this pedal it's open little spotlight video too

I would also say that the Behringer clones in general get very shrill and raspy when you start to really crank up their settings. If you have an amp that needs slammed with a lot of gain to perform, they can become unusable, but with tubes, they seem to be the poorman's savior. The natural characteristics of tubes clean up their short comings really well.
I only have 1 tube amp ATM, and run a high end G5 modeler on it, so the Behringer's now sit in my lab in need of repair they're so old.

Me no comprende', but I noticed GM108. The GM110 is a 10 watt, 10" version of the same amp. It sounds even better, especially if you can find the Vintager Silver Faced version.

I've hung onto mine for about 20 years now lol!
The one problem with Behringer's knock offs is when you really need to crank them, they get pretty shrill and raspy. I had the Boss Metalzone clone and ended up getting rid of it because when you cranked it, it was one of the worst in their model line.
I kept this, the Vintage Tube Monster and the distortion modeler because it does the RAT, the DS1 and the D+.

I've not tried all of those but I do have the tube overdrive and that works incredibly well, I'll have to see if I can get some of the others in for a demo 👍

@@BudgetPedalChap I also have the Vintager combo amp that has this circuit built into it for the preamp, and for what it is, it performs spectacularly. You can push the amp version of it to the max without it crusting out on you.
Far from my best amp in the sea of my collection, but I've hung onto it for close to 20 years just the same.
