    This is Indoor. DJ played in strong windz on a couole of the days. So perhaps the M6 is better in the wind? Maybe an on course test will clear that up 🤔

  • @stiwigabrielcourage7634

    There is a huge differens, in your test 5 out of 10 shots are within the target area with the M5, that goes up to 7 out of 10 with the M6.
    So for a round of golf, hitting 7 fairways instead of 5, equals 2/3 less shots. For a pro, that can be the difference between winning and 6th. place.
    So I would say that hitting 2 more fairways, is better the 6 yards longer. Therefore the M6 is the winner of the test. 😉

    How does the m5 + 6 compare to the m2, I’ve got the m2 and find it awesome. If it’s not working, it me not the driver. Is it possible to be more accurate with the 5 or 6. Straight is straight no matter what. I just wonder if distants would increase?

    If you are using an M5 to generate 2700 spin versus and M6 to generate 2500 spin then it is 100% pointless and not optimal to give up a more forgiving M6 club, to play the M5. Three years ago, most of the Taylormade sponsored players used the 2016 M2. Why? Because it delivered 2200 spin and it was more forgiving. The M5 does allow you to put one of the weights into the Fade setting (or both if you need it I guess), but that can also be partly done partly with the Adjustable Sleeve settings - but the weight in the TOE of the club is used by many of the tour guys to prevent overdrawing the ball. With the right shaft and a little bit of hotmelt to get the spin number he wants, not surprised at all on DJ's choice as he is a fader of the driver with his swing path so there is no need to use anything but the most forgiving driver.

    Well! This didn't go the way I was expecting! I was sure the M5 would blow away the M6 in your hands. That wasn't really the case, though. Still, a win is a win! Round one goes to the M5 by a nose!
    This was interesting, though, and it raises more questions. I'd like to see you get custom fit for both the M5 & M6 to see what numbers you can squeeze out of them both. I'm pretty confident that your best numbers with each club would require entirely different shafts in each. I look forward to seeing a fitting in the future!
    Someone asked about the weight of the heads. There honestly isn't much in it. They both weigh around 200g as did the M3/M4 according to TM.
    if anyone wants exact numbers on the M3 and M5:
    M3: 197g
    M5: 196.5g

    The thing with your pros is that you could put a 2001 driver in their bag and they'd still hit it 300+. Tiger was hitting his Nike Ignite driver well over 300 yards in 2004 so for Tour Pros I'd say a lot of new drivers are pointless so it mainly comes down to how much they're getting paid to use them. Justin Rose being a prime example in he now uses the Honma driver when he doesn't need to.

    Thanks James - don't get all the fuss about adjustability on drivers. Get a quality fitting by an expert and leave the club alone - 99% of golfers don't know what they are doing anyway (inc. me). Neither do they hit it consistently enough to warrant all the the tinkering unlike DJ. Expert fitting and improve the strike is best you can do.

    • @maeu59
      @maeu59 3 года назад

      If you’re serious about golf you’re constantly changing looking to get better so that fitting today will be different in a year. Guys like DJ can change clubs daily if they want. A serious amateur is better with an adjustable driver. But I agree a typical amateur will hardly touch the settings if they even know to do with them.

  • @tysonh424

    I got an idea on the dispersion...possibly try the 6.5(x-stiff). I find that an x-stiff shaft helped my dispersion tremendously because the club head was more in sync with my swing at impact. I've owned the standard G400, the G400 Max and now I use the G400 LST (low spin version). I find the LST to be more accurate and a lot longer in distance. This goes against what DJ has done so I suspect the variable here is the shaft and how it compliments your particular swing. I use a Hazardous 6.0 despite having 120+ swing speed, the 6.5 was just erratic for me.

    • @gearbox1858
      @gearbox1858 5 лет назад +1

      KingSadim never ever have I heard of a stiffer shaft being more erratic than a weaker shaft. Impossible. You might want to try again. 120 mph should not be using stiff. TX or X...

    • @KingSadim
      @KingSadim 5 лет назад

      @@gearbox1858 I always test my drivers before buying on an actual driving range, never use machines. A good example is my latest driver, the Epic Flash which I purchased 3 weeks ago. Tried the standard stiff, didn't like it, tried the 65g XStiff and didn't like it. Tried the Tensei stiff which is a heavy shaft and it was way better with 70-80% swing speeds (which is my norm now I'm 45 y/o). Also purchased the Tensei XStiff at 78g which allows for 100% swing speeds albeit with less accuracy. It depends on the course I'm in other words. I always use the same Pro for my drivers, he scratches his head too, I will say it is mostly heavy stiff shafts I get on with. I think it has something to do with the kick point rather than the rigidity of the shaft but I'm no expert that's for sure.

  • @lew536
    @lew536 5 лет назад

    Got to the remember with that strong grip, shaft lean and upward attack angle. DJ will have quite a low spin loft and perhaps wants a little bit of extra spin to help him hit more fairways and keep his rare bad misses from flying further offline, M5 in the ideal shaft for him might just be too low spinning to do the job out on tour through the ideal launch window

  • @edmc4315
    @edmc4315 5 лет назад

    I agree with the other people your swing has really improved more on plane, you should do a comparison video of your old swing versus the new. Also would like to see the most forgiving driver ever built G400 Max optimized to your swing with the best shaft for you and see the results versus a stock shaft in it.

  • @Jeremy_Walker
    @Jeremy_Walker 4 года назад

    I'm thinking about it, because it has massive adjust-ability with weights. I like to tinker... this is a game after all and it's part of my fun. I have been trying different shaft lengths and it's very difficult to keep swing weight the same. With this, I'm thinking I can tweak the shaft lengths and maintain a proper swing weight rather easily without permanently modifying the head.

    Does anyone think Dustin Johnson was not fit for both the M5 and the M6? The issue I have with all the super adjustable drivers is that if you get fit you would be crazy to keep fiddling with the adjustments once fit. So I discount the value of the super adjustable drivers if the argument is you plan to keep fiddling with them. That does not mean you will not find one that is the best fit for you, just that once set, I cannot see the benefit of further adjustments. That DJ is not like the rest of us means what works for him may not work for others. So he made his choice irrespective of cost, especially since he gets his equipment for free!

    ...should you got fitted for a driver...🤔....duhhhh....unless you get them for free or have so much money that you don’t know what to do with it why pay so much money for a driver (today often around €500 for the new stuff) without get properly fitted for it. Not only the weights (if they are present like in the M5) but more important loft and shaft . Get fitted properly on a launch monitor and see what works best for you and do that on more than one day before pulling the trigger because your swing is not the same every day 🤓 Great comparison of the two heads 👍🏽

    I can see DJ switching, when you are swinging 120+ your mishit will be WAY worse than a 100-110 speed mishit. just my opinion.

    All driver are just pretty much the same anymore. No need to speed 500 to 550 on driver any more. My r15 is still the same length as the m5 , flash and f9 So just get a 3 to 5 year old drive and save money and play the same

    If you put the weights all the way in the back of the m5 how much of a difference is there between the 2 in forgiveness

    i just bought a m1 2017 8.5 X stiff and all i did was moved the back weight forward until i got the flight i wanted the m5 would be the same thing so m5 all the way for me

    Pros get paid by these companies, and pay nothing for their equipment. I’ll spend my money on lessons, and when I have a swing I can game for the next few years or more, I’ll get fitted for equipment I can game for those years. That’s how I will enjoy my game. New equipment without a solid swing is a waste of money.

    just curious but with a 112 average why are you playing a 6.0 instead of a 6.5?

    50 percent of Taylor Mades product line are pointless as they release new and supposedly 'vastly improved ' driver and irons every 6 months.

    Why focus so much on distance or spin ? who cares to be 5 yards further in the misery ? It is minimizing shot dispersion that is the outcome parameter that counts here
