    The Non-Canon Expert explains why we've seen Darth Sidious come to the defense of Tarkin so many times within the current Canon as seen in the earliest years of the Empire, even appearing to take Tarkin's side over that of his own Apprentice Darth Vader. To answer this question, we look at the long history between Palpatine and Tarkin and why the Sith Lord found Tarkin to be a powerful ally in creating his new Empire.
    This is a Canon story for Tarkin, Darth Vader and Darth Sidious with information from numerous Canon comics and novels, including the "Tarkin" novel by James Luceno, the Darth Vader Annual #2 and the 2017 Darth Vader comic. I hope that you enjoy it!

    One more aspect: by not allowing Vader to take his anger out on Tarkin, it would grow inside him. And anger is a key aspect for the use of the dark side of the force...

    • @StixFerryMan
      @StixFerryMan 5 лет назад +32

      Not quite. All strong emotions give Smith strength, anger is just one of the stronger emotions. But anger also clouds judgement. By keeping Tarkin in a prized position and over Vader, Vader’s anger would keep him mailable and easier for Sidious to control. In truth, Sidious feared Vader. He was not only powerful in the force, but the Sith tradition of killing one;s Master made it only a matter of time before Vader would seek to end his subservience to Sidious. Tarkin was just another tool in keeping Vader emotionally of balance.

    • @StixFerryMan
      @StixFerryMan 4 года назад +7

      2300 Slatt any Sith that thought that only Anger and Hate were the only path to power we’re doomed to fail, a useful deceit that a Master can use to keep his Apprentice on the wrong track. In fact, that is what brought down the original Sith. They eventually thought only Anger lead to strength, because it was so strong, and it ended up almost killing their whole species with infighting, leaving them a pitiful remnant that was eventually wiped out. And that is why there is the Rule of Two. And that is why an Apprentice must kill his Master. And that is why the are eventually defeated. As well as the Jedi’s narrow view of the opposite.
      I did say that Anger was one of the stronger emotions. Most ppl would understand that that meant it held much power. After all, it is the most enduring emotion. Love can wilt, joy will fade, Hope can be dashed, but Anger can simmer, burning like a well banked coal. And as Yoda implied, all emotion can lead to Anger. But it is emotion and instinct, in excess, by which the real Sith connected to the Force. And it was by being cold and logical; the Jedi.
      But Anger is a wild and overpowering emotion that blinds and corrupts. One does not control pure Anger, but is controlled by it. And it is not Anger that makes an Apprentice into Master, but Greed and Jealousy. Sidious did not use Anger to gain power, well he did, but it was the anger in others he manipulated. When he, or any other successful Sith Lord used Anger, it was a tool, to enhance their power. It was not anger that allowed Vader to destroy Sidious, but love for his son( ok yes Anger, but anger tempered by love).

    Palpatine knew how important Tarkin was and never humiliated him, even keeping him safe from Vader and giving him some authority over him. Takin was old but commanded respect and fear because he was one of the few people who could give orders to Vader and was even able to give Vader a challenge when Tarkin hunted him after a request from Vader. One of the few non force sensitives able to match a sith/jedi without any augmentations like Grievous.
    Meanwhile, Hux is humiliated over and over again, basically becoming Kylo's underling once Snoke dies. What a contrast.

  • @chrisz5z

    And yet, Tarkin & Vader ended up gaining respect for each other.

    So if Thrawn were to show his skill a bit earlier then I think Tarkin will be given as a chew toy to Vader.

    Tarkin knew of Vader's true identity, he brought it up in episode IV when vader mentioned that he felt the presence of Obi-Wan. Stating "you my friend are the only thing left of that religion". It is also clear that he has a general idea of Vader's identity at the end of episode III. When Vader entered the bridge and stood next to the emperor, Tarkin looked down as if he would be embarrassed to ask, then turning away and walking off.

    I prefer the version where Vader & Tarkin had respect from each other & Tarkin knew Anakin was Vader. It goes back into the 2007 clone wars cartoon with a conversation between the two, it started off rocky, but eventually they came to understand each others beliefs. Which is why Tarkin is the only person besides the Emperor that Vader will listen to.

    • @MetaSynForYourSoul
      @MetaSynForYourSoul 5 лет назад +7

      @@JamesGames101 Ah, I always wondered about that. That makes sense. Sidious was probably thinking he'd pick an obvious rebel base planet, not one of humanity's core worlds, a world second only to Coruscant in its importance to humanity and the history of the galaxy. I would love to have been there when Tarkin had to explain himself, if Sidious was even upset with him. Tarkin did kind of seem like Sidious' "golden boy".
