This is awesome, thank you for sharing the tutorial ! I think I'm going to make this my first GeoNodes project.

Just tried this today and the results were fabulous in EEVEE! Great job.....hoping this add-on continues to develop as I see lots of potential. Thank you.

For a week I have been learning and reading blender's documentation on some geometry nodes and I almost managed to create my own trail by making a curve as one cyclic and try to fill curve but fill curve only works on flat. I also tried using extrude mesh but it's still bad. I found this video and I can't fathom sampling index using its own geometry, position and index. Looks like there are more to learn in Blender.
Thank you for this enlightening video.

Thank you very much for your teaching😘, although the programmatic nodes make me very confused.

Cool👍😆😍 How do we make other effects, like a fire trail for example

Can you make a video on how to make a trigger for a simulation? I'm trying to create an effect that needs to appear on different points in the timeline and not at the beginning of the animation

hi i think i get a problem here. the trails were visible in the viewport but it shows nothing when it got rendered. does it need to be baked first as if it is the simulation? please let me know if there's a solution

also, is there a way to bake the node simulation so that it wont restart to run simulation when i go backwards on my keyframe? im about to render this but the simulation keep changing

I followed this up to adding the subdivision node, and then it instantly crashed Blender. Opening the file again instantly crashes it again. So does appending it to a new file, so I had to delete it all and have wasted hours of work on both the effect and the custom sword for it.
There was no warning, blender went from running smooth as butter to instant death with no in-between, If it had lagged or given me any of the usual pushing things to hard signs I wouldn't be near as mad.

I have the same problem, have you tried to recover the file through the File - Autosave?
Upgrading to Blender 4.2 has the same problem. I would love to find a solution to this

This seems to be a issue occuring in Blender 4.1,4.2 . If you can, open the file in blender 4.0/3.6. hopefully no data related to trail effect will get corrupted. Then disable the subdivision node. Save. Open in latest version. Check rest of the settings. To add smoothing again, use subdivision modifier after the geometry nodes modifier. That will hopefully fix the issue.

@@mdreamslk Thank you for the advice, But I had already got rid of the file.
I think next time I try it I might see how it looks without the subdivision entirely as I don't make very high poly stuff anyway.
Thanks for making Geometry nodes more understandable, I tried the first of your lightning videos before this and it worked great.

Thank you so much! Now it works without issue!
Sad that the newest version of Blender can't handle how awesome this setup is
